Each and every word that this man has said is 1000% correct. I myself have experienced all this and my life has totally changed. Each and every word is GOLD.
Great talk. I think I am definitely addicted to social media. I spend many many hours on social media every day and night. I checked my phone usage for social media and just Last week I spent 41 HOURS on social media. Today after listening to this talk, I deleted facebook, Instagram, FB messenger, Tinder from my phone today. Such a relief. I am gonna work on it and promise myself not to use social media on phone from NOW.
Talked slowly, well thought out, emphasized his speech, I usually don't absorb everything right away on these talks, but on this I definitely did !! Thanks TEDx and youtube for this free service cause in the near future this guy could name his price !
Thankyou Albert for sharing your inspirational stories. I am a Psychotherapist in Sheffield, England and Practically beg all my clients to start meditation, guided breathing and mindfulness 😁 I believe this should be taught in schools from the earliest age possible! Also imagine the difference if schools swapped detention for meditation?!?! 💚
That would be horrible if schools seaped detention for meditation. Free play is soooo crucial for childtens healthy mental development! But deffinitely they should cut time of classes in favour of meditation or incorporaye it to PE.
Thank you so much for your words! Meditation has actually been implemented in parts of California now, but has been a regular activity at Nepalese schools for many years. Best wishes /A
Wow this talk made me realize that growing up as an only child to a single mother that worked 40-50 hrs/wk was in fact beneficial to my mental development. I spent a lot of time alone with only myself for company. Most of what this guy said was just a given for me yet I don’t understand why most of my peers just don’t get it. It’s like they’re stuck in the matrix.
Such an eye opening speech. I have gave up all social media all news outlets It was serving me no use and causing me stress. Now I only have you tube I read ,study and grow my own food and found that although my mental health is not at it's best I am beginning to feel a little bit better each day.
I've been out of Facebook for over ten years now. I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol, but do have struggles with thoughts that are not positive all the time. Keep your thoughts from wandering to a negativity by reading good books or doing a job that you love, and rendering services to others and that's how you fill your mind with positivity, which in turn balance your life, but negative thoughts will always be tempting you, no matter what you do to keep them at bay.
Very good presentation. I have a 10 yr old son and I’ve been contemplating compiling quotes and data such as this to open his eyes to reality and show him what kind of world humanity has created and how with that knowledge we can help change it. One of the important things to keep in mind is that pretty much all of this info presented is no accident, but by design.
Thank you! Much appreciated. I agree we live in a critical time that requires critical actions. Sounds like a great idea to inform your son. Best of luck /A
quotes do nothing, they are abstract. First hand experience is the best teacher. At least he should be able to relate to the context, e.g. it happens to a friend or his favorite youtuber admits it in a story time. Or a documentary with context and emotions like „The Tinder Swindler“.
I appreciate his ability to say it isn't external factors that are to blame but our own inability to make wise decisions. Banning things isn't the answer but restraining our impulses is.
This guy's talk was so strong. Exactly what I needed. Even though I watch documentaries, I choose ones more about terror, rather than something good. Now I've recognised the problem too.

this is so true, I stopped doing mediation for some weeks and I noticed how distracted I was, how my thoughts became superior against my own will and even scaring me to something isn't even real or happening.
Meditation does help battle those negative engaging thoughts, let’s you live in the present moment rather that in the past or worried so much about the future. Listen to your thought and decide what to keep and what to discard you have the power to decide.

One year has just passed from watching this speech! After lots of suffering and trying hard, I couldn't help myself! I finally started taking medications for overthinking! Let's see what happens with that!
As a few events have happened, I've been down these days. I had to face my weaknesses. My reaction to them was really bad, I'd never felt so hopeless and shocked before. But I did see the results, I have matured a lot. When I try to open up, people make it sound like my problems and pain are nothing, like it doesn't matter how I feel. This video helped me a lot, I can relate to a few points. Tysm...
We really need more ppl to speak on these topics, so many great teachers have for yrs but just recently it has blown up in the media, ppl are starting to wake up but I feel like we all could make a big difference in even more lives if more ppl educated themselves and got out there in the world preaching it on the streets starting more businesses ect doing whatever they can toget this knowledge out to more ppl not just online. The more you study the more change u see happening in your life, but still so many have no clue how powerful their thoughts really are. Ive been studying for 5yrs and still learning and trying to stay mindful of my thoughts, especially anxiety it consumes me sometimes but I see it getting better the more knowledge I gain on the power of thoughts. Lots of great teachers out there but most of it's online. We need to try an reach those who maby don't have access to the Internet, ppl who are homeless or might not have interest or know how to find these videos ect.. we need to find other ways to reach more ppl outside of digital resources. I've asked several ppl threw the yrs if they know what mindfulness is or law of attraction and most say no. I think if more believed then just maby there wouldn't be so much crime, bullying hate in this world.
The carefully chosen words at the end there were so beautiful. And such a humble and genuine guy. This really is a great TED talk with great clarity and relevance for all people.
Great words here and I AM going to follow this truth. Thank you, young man. I used to meditate and do yoga. Now I find myself forgetting to literally breathe right because I'm so anxious and worried about how, why and who. I really needed this and I know from past experience it works.
Thank you!! Appreciate his taking multiple relevant subjects and converging them into one, concise presentation. One word: brilliant!! He said, "I no longer believe what I think." When you decide to "shower with a bucket," you are definitely expanding in consciousnes!!!
thank you for this inspiring talk needed it , lately my mood has been low due to consumption of alot of social media and constantly stumbling across people who are more succesfull than i am ...which has led to anxiety and overthinking now on i want to limit my social media consumption... i hope it works(I am 19 and wanna able to control my thoughts)

The way Hidden Time Wealth dives into the concept of productivity is mind-blowing. Hidden Time Wealth tips are pure gold, and I wish more people knew about them.
I have begun to consciously reduce my use of social media and also to be more selective about the type of movies I watch, the types of new media I read and where I place my attention.
Selective input. Excellent. This also applies to dysfunctional families with so-called narcissistic mothers and cruel rejecting families and siblings. This applies to all toxic from everywhere in our lives. This is an excellent presentation with very important information concise and to the point. Thank you.
Unwillingness to take responsibility for our reactions - the key is motive 1st, then mindfulness ! Do you want to change or not; or maybe we give in to the belief that we can't change our anger, fear .....which is playing to our thoughts. This guy is a true winner in life; who has control over his mind. He definitely got something out of the Wat Suan Mokh retreat.........
I am in tears. Thank you such a revelation thank you. I was distracting myself from mourning the disappearence of my beloved mother and 2 years later the death of my best friend. 10 years i was postponing the remorse and grief until this moment i broke up into tears uncontrollably
One of the best TED talks one can listen and follow. I use very less of social media, but I confess that still i do use Whatsapp for work. I decided to keep my gadgets away and increase my time of meditation ( I do an hour daily). Thanks very much Albert Hobohm
Couldn't agree more. I need to practice more meditation myself. Very excited to try. Smart phones are making majority of people less intelligent and most content on social media, news, advertisements are just distractions. People are addicted to distractions. Our thoughts are the only social media, news channel and advertisements we need to watch.
i suffered a lot mentally it was always conflicts of emotions, over thinking and guiltless. I maybe lose many things even i excluded some people from my life. But, Now, i wanted to Live more intense aware life and involve in my existence. Peace to all!
9:30 on. Nice analogy: we are what we eat in the sense that what we eat have an impact in our bodies, but we also are the information we consume in the sense that the information we have access to has an impact in how we think. We can have a healthy body depending on what we eat just like we can have a healthy "mind" depending on how we feed our thoughts with. It's important to restrain mental and physical input. It makes me think of the overflowing amount of data/information that's available through social media and the internet in general. Our mental health needs us to be able to filter things better.
Thank god for people like him. And thank god I'm not addicted to social media. Those self absorbed people who like to promote themselves in Instagram is enough to put me off.

So impressed by his speech based on his experiences. By immersing myself in the world where I can feel calm, I hope I can find a tie to share with other people to make the world more comfortable to survive. Thanks to the lecturer !
This guy truly came from the future.. Goddamn!! He is so right in many issues, particularly the Social media. The more you use it, the more isolated you are from the actual society. What I got from him are that; 1) Begin Meditation --> To be mindful in selecting constructive thoughts over destructive ones since thoughts lead to actions and results subsequently. 2) Choose the right input in your mind --> Stay away from bad news and Social media cause majority of their content are presenting bad info which will destruct your mental health and thoughts.

“It’s not the harsh, traumatic, or horrible events themselves you should fear the most in life, but your own unwillingness to control your reaction to those events. Ultimately it’s your capacity to take full responsibility for your thoughts, that will dictate the course and growth of not just you, but our entire world”

Thank you 🙏🏽✨
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 746 subs and > 200 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
The way he speaks, clearly demonstrates the high achieved mind focus. Great talk. Thx!
Thanks for that feedback Lukas! I had it repeated like 85 times ;-) Thanks for watching! /A
It's nice that you call your audience: "friends". I love it. Excellent and wise speech:)
Thank you Wiktor, and for watching! /A
Not only an eye-opening speech, but also wonderfully well conveyed. I've just started meditation two weeks ago but the spark of something new is igniting inside of me. I hope that as many people as possible watch this excellent Talk. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for your kind words Jorge. Take good care /A
Would you say your life 360d from when you posted this? Can you tell me your new outlook on life and how it’s different from before this comment was posted
@@henrytheastronaut My mother is a lovely old lady who has Alzheimer's. I live with her. No nursing home. No care facilities. Last night she take her diaper off, it was pee full. She doesn't know how to put on a fresh one, so she went to bed again without. This morning her bed was full of stool. Before 7 a.m. I was washing her and changing bed clothes. Meditation can help to overcome some automatic reactions and thoughts. Not always, truth be told.
"Thoughts become perception, perception becomes reality. Alter your thoughts, alter your reality". Nicely put!

Wow…what a conclusive statement. Thank you for the advice good sir.
His mother would be proud! THANK YOU FOR THIS
Each and every word that this man has said is 1000% correct.
Thank you for sharing your story Raja! Take good care! /A
How do you communicate with friends or relatives that live far away?

Thank you for sharing! That sounds reasonable, understimulation is so often a great thing. Not in the moment, but in the long run. Take care /A
I'm stuck... help
Such an eye opening speech. I have gave up all social media all news outlets It was serving me no use and causing me stress. Now I only have you tube I read ,study and grow my own food and found that although my mental health is not at it's best I am beginning to feel a little bit better each day.
Thank you for your kind words Catherine, your steps are admirable. Take good care /A
Why I never had social media, and stopped watching TV all together. Thank you Albert Hobohm!
So you been off Facebook since 2010?? Sorry hun, u were never really on Facebook l
It is a rare to make a comment about a YT speech. But this one had bring tears to my eyes. Thank You. Wonderfull.
Nelio Abreu Thank you so much for your kind words. Take good care, enjoy the day! /A
Very good presentation.
Best of luck /A
But don't 'overdo' it, as the speaker warns us for!
quotes do nothing, they are abstract.
Thank u so much.. that was really brilliant and so true... its amazing how u speak about having that time to meditate.. as Muslims we pray 5 times a day.. n in that we have quiet, focussed and a form of meditation... trully find a serenity and tranquil state after this...
I love ur take on social media.. i deleted my facebook years ago and im not on any other platform either... nor do watch tv or news... i also suffered from severe anxiety and past traumas and used to watch tv constantly... cutting it out and clearing ur mind makes such a difference...
Really great video.. thank u
He deserved a huge stage and audience for this talk. Regardless, thank you and awesome work!

I agree!!
Pls any direction on how to meditate
this is so true, I stopped doing mediation for some weeks and I noticed how distracted I was, how my thoughts became superior against my own will and even scaring me to something isn't even real or happening.
My random thoughts often appear randomly and makes me believe to smth I’m not. Thankyou for writing this
Meditation does help battle those negative engaging thoughts, let’s you live in the present moment rather that in the past or worried so much about the future. Listen to your thought and decide what to keep and what to discard you have the power to decide.

Tysm...
We really need more ppl to speak on these topics, so many great teachers have for yrs but just recently it has blown up in the media, ppl are starting to wake up but
I feel like we all could make a big difference in even more lives if more ppl educated themselves and got out there in the world preaching it on the streets starting more businesses ect doing whatever they can toget this knowledge out to more ppl not just online.
I am not the brightest star in the Galaxy but I understood every word this man said thank you for this very simple explanation on how the mind works
You are your own star. Shine as bright as you like
He seems to choose his words carefully to express his ideas and I appreciate that.

This young man is so amazing. I always come back to this Ted X. Still trying to learn how to influence my life and stopping thoughts to control me.

I have begun to consciously reduce my use of social media and also to be more selective about the type of movies I watch, the types of new media I read and where I place my attention.
A smooth, engaging and magnetic presenter.
Thanks for watching Scott! /A
You can tell the speech comes from a place of passion and love, such superb way of making these important points, well done.
Wow, that’s an amazing speech. He didn’t speak much about his own truth but I somehow recognize myself into what he says..
I am in tears. Thank you such a revelation thank you. I was distracting myself from mourning the disappearence of my beloved mother and 2 years later the death of my best friend. 10 years i was postponing the remorse and grief until this moment i broke up into tears uncontrollably

Great speaker..I cant see the crowd but I can just feel that he has their complete attention..his words are making an impact in that room tonight..
One of the best TED talks one can listen and follow. I use very less of social media, but I confess that still i do use Whatsapp for work. I decided to keep my gadgets away and increase my time of meditation ( I do an hour daily). Thanks very much Albert Hobohm
I found that every presenter who does meditation gives a gentle aura when talking. Like the surface of the sea
I love this yes exactly! You can feel the energy difference
Very important and quality talk, well done!

So impressed by his speech based on his experiences. Being in the turmoil of information, it is essential to be yourself through calming down your chain of troubled thoughts and ideas; meditation is one strong way to accomplish it. By immersing myself in the world where I can feel calm, I hope I can find a tie to share with other people to make the world more comfortable to survive. Thanks to the lecturer !

That calmness in his voice though.
This guy truly came from the future.. Goddamn!! He is so right in many issues, particularly the Social media. The more you use it, the more isolated you are from the actual society.
What I got from him are that;
1) Begin Meditation --> To be mindful in selecting constructive thoughts over destructive ones since thoughts lead to actions and results subsequently.
2) Choose the right input in your mind --> Stay away from bad news and Social media cause majority of their content are presenting bad info which will destruct your mental health and thoughts.
