I started watching your videos when I wanted to know the truth about infant baptism. I was a member of a baptist church but I couldnd't be there anymore when I understood I need to get my child baptised. She will get baptised this sunday in a lutheran church. Thank you and greetings from Sweden!

I grew up LCMS, went K-8th grade at the church school, and contemplated going into ministry at least twice in my life. Was WELS through my first marriage (sadly, that ended badly) Studied, and found a few bible teaching pastors/ministers that I learned a lot from. However, in the last few years, I have been having a bit of a crisis of faith.... I sometimes tell people the God and I are having a "spat"... but honestly, these 10-15 minutes that pop up in my feed nearly every day have taught and encouraged so much. Thanks!

The gift of the Holy Spirit was being abused in Paul’s day and still he didn’t stop preaching about God’s gift of the Holy Spirit. Without God’s Spirit we couldn’t know him or even want to. Praise God for his Holy Spirit to bring us to the foot of the cross in repentance.

My earliest memories of church include hearing of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And for the life of me, and I'm now a septugenarian, I have struggled with the concept of the Holy Spirit. We know that God has dominion over all things, we pray in the name of Jesus as our faith in Him will give us salvation, but what is the Holy Spirit and how is it we do not pray to the Holy Spirit? I admit to times I have had a wondrous feeling wash over me and I feel I am in the presence of God. Is this what it is? I find your UA-cam theology to be quite refreshing and they do feed my spiritual needs.

But the thing is, it's not just the Benny Hinns of evangelicalism that abuse the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Even in churches not officially classified as "charismatic" or "pentecostal," I've seen people who confuse the Holy Spirit with their own emotions or thoughts (including myself at one time while in evangelicalism).

I've never been Lutheran (except in the sense of being protestant) and my dad never was Lutheran either but his dad was Lutheran until the 1920s. I think my understanding of this subject similar to my dad's and that his understanding was similar to his dad's understanding.
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." John 16:13
This passage can be understood to mean that the Holy Spirit only teaches us what he receives from our heavenly Father as Jesus only taught what he received from our heavenly Father. The passage can also be understood to mean that the emphasis of the Holy Spirit will always be on the person and work of Jesus.

That's why it says "test the spirits" and Satan/Lucifer will also "present himself as an angel of light and his followers as workers of righteousness." (Paraphrase... See 2 Corinthians 11 verses 14 and 15).
When people allow into their churches praise bands playing stairway to heaven, and are rolling on the floor in what they think is the holy Spirit.... They have accepted another spirit. We have to be very careful.
Next step is to examine what you mean by "belief."
Repent. Trust God and obey him. ❤️

I wonder how John taught his disciples to pray.

    • @sharondoan1447
      @sharondoan1447 2 роки тому +3

The faithful of God were praying long before Jesus offered what we refer to as The Lord’s Prayer as an example of prayer to the disciples who requested it. “ Teach us to pray” sounds to me like the Apostles had begun to understand that a new time had come. A time not reflected in their present day worship rituals.
I think it’s good to remember than the Jews communicated with God by offering up prayers from the beginning. So, I would imagine that the disciples of John continued the traditional prayers recorded in the Torah. It is also known that Jews prayed personal prayers, just as we do today. And remember that John’s ministry was a ministry of repentance for sins , not of salvation in the way that we associate with Jesus. But, of course , the day came when Jesus approached John as a candidate for baptism , He who had no sin! No wonder John felt unworthy to baptize Jesus who had no sin for which to repent! So much to reflect on. So much to learn. God bless you as you continue to study the Bible. Imagine living before Bibles were so available that everyone could have their own copy!

So the Father is the ground of being, the soil of the soul. The Son is knowledge of the Father. The Holy Ghost is ecstasy. It is wordless transcendence and revelation. If we speak of the Holy Ghost then we have spoken falsely, for the Holy Ghost speaks to us in silence where no others can hear or understand.

    • @sharondoan1447

Could you speak more (or link previous videos if you have) on the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12-14). I think Lutherans get misunderstood as cessationists. But how do the miracle gifts and such fit into the current church? How do we rightly divide those gifts which were for the apostolic era and to validate the spread of the Gospel, vs what is operative today? i.e. tongues and the gift of healing seem not to be operative, but is this specifically in Scripture anywhere?

This is Theresa Grice--I enjoyed your message, but I would also like to say that although self-control is a gift from Jesus' Holy Spirit, King David displayed such great love and joy while worshipping Yahweh that he leaped and whirled as he and the Levites were bringing back the Ark. I would say that Jesus' Holy Spirit moved King David to behave in an "un-self-controlled" way, but certainly in a way that pleased the Lord. If we cannot be passionate in loving and worshipping the Lord because we must exercise self-control, what does that say about us?

You say it is better that Jesus left so we have the Holy Spirit, but your description of what it means for us to have the Holy Spirit falls short of it being worth it for Jesus to leave. In other words, it is not about trusting that the Holy Spirit is at work, but seeing that He is at work. Yes, there are abuses in people claiming the Holy Spirit is doing things when He is not, but it is unwise to throw out the baby out with the bath water regarding how the Holy Spirit works in our lives.

Bryan, all three of the things the Spirit is going to do here are directed the world, which I understand John to use primarily of the unbelieving world. So this is not so much what the Spirit is going to do to us, as it is what he is going to do on behalf of us as our advocate against the accuse, vindicating Christian people and their ruler over and against the world and its ruler. Therefore I wonder if all three of these things are not Law against the world. When he speaks of righteousness, he is revealing that there is no righteousness unless you have Christ, who is so righteous he can enter heaven on his own accord. Since the world reject this, they are condemned by this speech also.

I and most law enforcement officers would say it is prideful and narcissistic for an arrogant man to produce UA-cam videos while driving. Bryan puts self before others safety and I'm guessing he even answers text while driving. So why would you trust him in your journey with the LORD, when he cares less about others on their journey to the supermarket or going to pick up their children from school? Look who long and often Bryan is distracted by the camera.

Be at peace. Sometimes any one of us can read the words of another and come away having differing interpretations of what was written. I am a Lutheran and I can tell you that I fully embrace the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I believe he guides me, supports me in times of need, and so much more. As I read the Bible I am continually blessed by the words God has given us through the work of the Holy Spirit. I accept Jesus at his word. He said quite clearly that he would send believers the Holy Spirit. That sounds real personal to me. The work of the Holy Spirit is so profound that it is difficult to imagine day to day existence for a Christian without his presence.
