Mikael Bruun traffic is the word we use to mean a lot of cars on the same road we are on and the cars don't drive in a steady flow but rather a slow moving with lots of stopping of the cars. It makes your travel by car take a lot more time to get where you need to go.

Love is being honest and telling someone something that’s very difficult for them to hear. Love is giving them discipline in the form of correcting bad theology that they mistake as truth. It can be painful to hear the truth after years of believing in a false doctrine. Thank you Pastor for speaking on this subject.

I think the biggest problem is that we have gotten the "greatest commandment" (Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength. Love your neighbor as yourself) backwards. We are loving people first and forgetting to love God and His word first- which then tells us how to love our neighbor. We are listening to the world's definition of love, not God's.

I appreciate the explanation of different types of love Pastor Wolfmueller. I enjoy explaining to my students what truly being loving means. I usually use an example of a parent and a hot burner on a stove. Love does not stay silent while a toddler reaches for a burner that is hot. Love scolds, love warns, love takes action in ways that may seem harsh, but are meant to protect. In a similar, but much more critical way, love does not mean we sit on the sidelines and let people wander, stumble, or sometimes even sprint towards eternal destruction in hell. Love means we get up out of our comfortable positions in life and do the difficult, but loving thing of warning others of when they have strayed from the truth of God's Word. We act, out of love, not out of arrogance, which I would never accuse you of as I have watched many of your videos and have appreciated your kind and caring, but also stern approach when necessary. I’m late to the party, but I really enjoy how you are able to answer these questions in a way everyone can understand.
18:17. "Love and judgement are not two different things". Gasp! - - rewind - - listened again - -and started crying .... for when truth passes by, it is hard not to be moved by it's beauty.
An atheist who had a profound near death experience w/ a terrifying visit to hell and was rescued by Jesus, came back deeply changed and became Christian. He experienced God's profound love and said in that perfect holiness that God's love has boundaries. The statement "love and judgment are not two different things", reminds me very much of that man's statement that God's love has boundaries.
The man's name is Bryan Melvin, I found it on Randy Kay (YT channel): He Died, Went to Hell, Saw Hitler & What Comes Next Will Shock You - Ep. 9. There seems to be a lot of false NDE's cropping up that support the new age movement, and this wasn't one of them. Bryan Melvin knows scripture well and his experience, like many others expound and give insights to the bible, not take away from it.
I know this is late and likely no one will read it, but... What I don't understand is how when people harp on how we should be loving to everyone, they don't understand that what they are complaining about is that we aren't loving their sins. Nowhere does the Bible say that loving others means condoning or supporting their sins. Pointing out when someone is in danger IS love. It's like arguing that I am not loving a crack addict because I refuse to supply them with crack or smoke crack with them, but I'm hating them when I tell them they need to stop or if I refuse to buy crack for them. When Jesus taught love, he didn't mean it's justifiable for us to love sin or to love committing sinful acts. (But, hey, I used the word "love" so it must be OK, right?) If I remember the quote correctly, it's "Love covers a multitude of sins" not "Love justifies a multitude of sins."

Hey Pastor Bryan, I am a Lutheran in St. Louis, LCMS. you are great! I love how you break everything down word for word. Lets keep it real...ELCA is super weird and way off kilter. We cannot pick and choose which parts that we want to hear. Bless you brother!

Presbyterian female pastor here ordained in ECO (Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians). Thank you for your video and response to this question. I am in total agreement with it, but it needs to be contextualized further to the situation in which this ELCA pastor is framing the question regarding the LCMS pastor’s response to her presence and service in ministry and God’s love. The issue is primarily in relation to theological differences concerning the ordination of women within the Lutheran denominations (we have the same issues in Presbyterianism) and given those differences, how do we understand God’s love with respect to our responses to each other in this matter or others within the Body of Christ. This is why she begins her question to you acknowledging she has theological differences with you as she is providing further context of her question as she shares the example of the LCMS pastor.
That said, the emphasis in response is not primarily with respect to those non-believers outside the church and God’s love (though relevant of course) but rather how should God’s love inform our response to each other when theological differences exist within the church catholic, whether concerning women’s ordination or other theological differences that exist between our faith traditions.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your church. You are exactly what I needed genuine faith! Peace and Joy!

If sin isn’t a big deal then why did Jesus need to die in the first place? Maybe God is so loving that he can just forgive all of our sins without a punishment. Is God then a Just God?
This is simply a short and peaceful message:
Is Jesus our savior? Can he decide us to enter the paradise?
All prophets were sent to guide people to the truth(pure and clear monotheism). That is the straight way, the truth and the real life.
Say, He is God, the one. God is eternal. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is nothing comparable to Him. ( holy Quran ,original holy Bible & all true Revelations). FACT.
God created Adam from no man and no woman. And He created Eve from man(Adam) and no woman. Do you think God cannot create a man from woman and no man? Indeed, God’s ability is extremely beyond our imagination.
Adam ate from the tree but when he repented, God forgave him his sin. There is no original sin. It is very easy for Almighty God to forgive all our sins without sacrificing or crucifying Himself.
Muhammad peace be upon him is not false prophet but he is a true prophet confirming what has been revealed before him. You know there are a lot of false accusations and fake news about Islam.
I highly encourage you to read the alive miracle (Quran).
If you diligently and honestly seek God, you will find Him.

Hi abo, In case it wasn’t clear, my questions were all rhetorical.
Sin is a big deal and separates us from God. We are wholly unable to save ourselves because Adam’s sin has corrupted our flesh and we don’t know how to see our sin or receive the gospel of Jesus apart from the regeneration of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus died and rose again so that he could be our new Adam and that through him we are resurrected and made righteous.
God became man in Jesus so this could be accomplished.
He is the last prophet, priest, and King we will ever need.
Yeah, the video got to that point, and I was nodding my head in agreement. I get frustrated of hearing that I'm not a loving Christian and all the other points Pastor Bryan makes. When discussing, I try to tiptoe around the law and gospel in fear of offending people (a sin I am guilty of). The second some people hear you believe in traditional marriage or limitations on women's roles in church, it shuts down conversation.
@@tylercoan I am a woman. I believe in traditional roles as outlined in scripture. I do not believe women are to have teaching authority over men in the church. I was not raised in a Christian home and by God's grace He saved me as a young adult. I was baptized and as a Baptist by confession of faith and full submersion in a body of water in public to announce the death of my old life and the ressurection in Christ of my new life as a Christian. I am an American. Black American woman. The Word of God is true. All of it. Even the parts I find difficult. God is still teaching me as I continue to grow in understanding of His word. I am thankful He saved me from the deception I was in. After all these years I would have been so culturally liberal in all my ways and thinking if it were not for Him. Keep being true to His word. Regardless of the culture clash. I think Jesus knowing the future said what He said in Luke 14:26 because He knew one day we would be called "haters". And if that is what they consider "hate" even though we know it is love then we have to be willing to "hate" for our love for Him. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your videos, Pastor. I very much appreciate that you keep bringing the Gospel to the fore. I'm a celibate gay man and recognize the truth in the Lutheran doctrine as you describe it. The message is both dire and wonderful at the same time. Without the suffering and death of Christ on the cross, what is the point? All else leads to self righteousness and ultimately condemnation on the last day. Sheep vs goats, eh?

Wow. Just...wow. I'm INTENSELY enjoying this dialogue! I'm a 3rd generation LCMS member, and have Worshipped with the same church/congregation my entire 62 years. I came across this channel....and I am SO thankful!! I have several ELCA friends and it's sometimes awkward to have conversations due to the 'cultural liberalism' that's been embraced by the ELCA. Breaks my heart. We have 2 Lutheran churches in this town, one each of the ELCA and the LCMS; many have transferred their membership over to the LCMS. I have yet to see any of our members transfer the other direction. I continue to pray for all to have their hearts and minds opened to the Truth, the Word, and not be swayed by 'popular thinking'. God does not change; Oh what a comfort is that!! Amen.

Pastor, I am very thankful for your videos. This topic you have been engaging is a challenging one and I cannot imagine how difficult it is to not only speak the truth in love but also stand up to the criticism from those who erroneously believe you do this from a selfish standpoint. Please know that apart from deepening my understanding of theology, you have also shown me the importance of speaking with grace. You and your ministry have my prayers, endure and persevere.

I was harshly judged by my ELCA pastor when I spoke the word of God out to him about a few issues. I said that I was not judging,but only repeating God's word back to him. He further judged me by saying there was no hope for people like me. He judged my completely unlutheran written statements when I wrote woefully wrongly about baptism for the church's newsletter. In this case he judged this horrific misunderstanding of the sacrament which I wrote of in terrible ignorance. Judgement of approval. Yet not one word of correction was given to me to properly guide me. The was judgement of omission. The Bible clearly teaches we are to correctly judge particularly to one who is considered to be in the faith.
The unbeliever has the law written on their heart. That law will not and cannot save them. So we use our judgement and assume they have not heard the gospel and deliver it to them in light of their terrified conscience. This is right and good to do. To the person of God,we also speak the law as a reminder of what Christ has done for us and admonish one another to not continue in nor return to deeds of darkness. Another proper use of judgement.
We use our judgement to not commune and show unity where it does not fully exist. Pr. Wolfmueller would not commune at my WELS church and I would not commune at his LCMS church even if our doctrine is like 98% in agreement. We at least have the level of respect that there are differences and we dare not hold judgement OVER God's word on the matter, yet respectfully refrain from joint fellowship. So much the more where I would not assume to invite Muslim or a Roman Catholic to commune at my church's altar and deny that there is a complete and opposite understanding of what scripture teaches on how one must be saved.

In Jeremiah 31 (NASB) we read:
31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.
33 “For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
34 They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.”
How is it that unbelievers get the law written on their heart if these verses from Jeremiah teach of a future covenant where God puts His laws within them and write it on people’s hearts (v33 above)?
Is this future covenant different from the Christian religion?
When and how did unbelievers get these laws written on their hearts?
Are the gentiles of Romans 2 outside of the Christian covenant?
If so, how is it that those in the flesh cannot please God as mentioned in Romans 8:8?

Part of the problem is not being familiar with 1 Cor. 5: 9-13. We don't judge the world and the lost, we do however have to keep an eye on each other as believers and make judgements.

Thank you for your Steering Wheel Talk today. I always enjoy listening to a pastor who rightfully handles the Word of God and the Sacraments. As a mere Sinner and Saint, I appreciate those who are so gifted in God's Word. And, as per Luther's teachngs, I'm content in the gifts of my own vocation wherein I may serve God and my neighbor in a manner in which God gifted me. I don't desire to be my own God as God is God and I am not. And so, like you, Paul, Luke and Luther, I take daily comfort in knowing from God's Word that I too am redeemed by Jesus's blood from the claws of sin, fangs of death, and the piercing pains of the devil. Again, I learned much from and took comfort in your 'table talk' of God's Word. Thank you.
Thank you for making these videos. I was baptized and catechized in the ELCA church between 85-99. I'm very appreciative of that training. Thankfully, I didn't notice the massive differences amongst Lutherans throughout those formative years.
Your videos help me to understand that there are differences worthy of pause and reflection.

I thought you did an excellent job. I would add that the reason why the LCMS close the table for Communion is out of Christian Love for our neighbors.
Can you explain that, Adam? I attended an LCMS church once and wasn't allowed to take communion, and it put me off. It was like them telling me that I wasn't a believer in Jesus Christ, that I wasn't a fellow sister in Christ, and so that I wasn't then allowed to partake of His body and blood. It was as if they didn't recognize me as a sister in Christ, adopted into the same family of God that they were. I don't see how there was Christian love involved. It felt like they were denying my faith when they didn't even know what my faith was! All they had to do was ask me to make a profession of faith. Here, I'll state it here: I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and that He died on the cross because of my sins. He was raised from the dead for my justification. My faith or belief in Him is counted as righteousness, and by this faith in Him, I live, and He will raise me up on the last day, and I will be with Him forever.
@@kathyh.1720 So I would have some questions about that Sunday, did you know that the Lord Super was going to be given that day? If so did you try to speak to the Pastor or one of the Elders? So that they could here your profession of faith? And as for the Christian Love read 1st Corinthians 11 17-34
@@adama4877 I did know that they would be serving communion, and that was one reason I attended that day. I didn't know that it was "closed communion". No other type of church I'd attended over the previous decades of my life had done that. Before the service started, someone came up to me and told me that it was closed communion. I was a little surprised, so I didn't have a ready answer. He said that I could attend some class so that I could take communion after that, but, of course, I couldn't do it right then. Actually, at one point, if he had stopped talking, I would have been okay with it for that day, but he kept talking, and things started getting sour with me, so I left and didn't stay for the service.
@@kathyh.1720 For the LCMS, their official doctrine of communion is "closed communion," which can be found, in part, when St. Paul writes (1 Cor. 11) that some receive the Lord's Supper without knowing (discerning) what it is or how to "examine themselves" so to receive the life-giving forgiveness of sins rather than "drinking judgment" on oneself. The LCMS (and loving pastor) wishes for all to commune together... for forgiveness rather than condemnation; and therefore, loving, responsible pastors need time to talk with visitors prior to serving them the body and blood of Christ in order to recognize that same fellowship and confession of faith. I hope this helps.
@@chrisprumm9299 all this has me considering being a Lutheran if I could find this one and not the EL×× one. My mom comes to church with me and I really think she shouldn't be taking Communion. I go to a independent Baptist church that is dispensational. Though I haven't really landed on my understand of that level of theology, I think I line up more with reformed theology. Yet been listening to pastor B.W. here and I am praying very much about it. The stuff he teaches make sense. Of course I agree with the core of all our faith. The Holy Triune God of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I belive the whole bible. No other name can man be saved except by Jesus. And all the stuff Kathy said I agree with. I was not raised in church. God first saved me in a church that was becoming very culturally liberal. That led me away to find bible believing, bible teaching churches. It's hard when you didn't have any thing to start off with. I went to a Calvary Chaple for years. They do verse by verse exegesis teaching. The past 10 years I have been in the Baptist church I am in now. But I find myself listening to other teachers like Timothy Keller and the late R.C. Sproul (Presbyterian I think), Voddie Baucham, Paul Washer and John Piper (Reformed Baptist), Mike Winger (I don't know his denomination) and now very recently Bryan Wolfmueller (Lutheran the faithful to God's word kind. I still get the letters mixed up on whose who). Anyway, my church is going through transition and I am praying about what to do. And the communion situation has been on mind every time I read about it in the scriptures that I want to be in a place that takes this more biblically litteral than what I have so far experience.
Pastor, I have recently come across your youtube channel and I must say: Bravo! Thank you for your kind explanations and raw convictions, it keeps me coming back for more. You are a blessing to all who watch/listen. God's richest blessings to you and may the Good Lord continue to guide & direct you in this important ministry.
Bryan, keep teaching the truth and be strong. We love you and you are a tool God uses so we as a family are nurtured with healthy spiritual food. It is not possible we could persuade everyone. These kind of issues create ''argumentative'' kind of discussions and this kind of discussions produce frustration to the most sensitive part who suddenly hear the accusation (always the same) ''don't judge, love'' etc etc etc. I personally experienced it many times with ''evangelicals'' (who are conservative, not progressive or liberal). I think that the progressive christianity has many healthy aspects and it is a balance of history after many years of ''conservative'' christianity (all the bad aspects of it). But, I notice that nowadays progressive christianity's focus is in building a new (liberal) Law, which mean that has been transformed in the other side of the same coin i.e. ''salvation by deeds'', another theology of glory, another kind of ''you have to keep the law so we consider you a good person, otherwise you are a pig, a fascist, a judgmental person, a bad person''. It is the same mentality conservative christianity once (and still) uses. Greetings.

ELCA is a political church not a Christian church. Politics is the "religion" of the pagans, like the children of Israel accepting and worshiping the gods of their neighbors to appease them, so are the political churches of our day.
Politics is the other religion. A kindred god that they take on is the prosperity "gospel." These are the gods of our neighbors and their are ENTIRE denominations that carry water for them.
I walked out on the ELCA in 1988 when the pastor did a worship service centered around American Indian beliefs of a Great Spirit and the rivers of the world creating his holy hoop.

In our culture, we have to ask a question: "Who follows who?" we want to have a piñata with the word of God, we beat it and we want to choose what is best for us, without thinking about our sinful nature of choosing what is worse for us, pride, fear, selfish. These are all some of our trends.

Pastor, some decided that they can pick and choose what part of the WORD applies to them. If the WORD states something they don't like then something is wrong with the WORD. That is why we (LCMS) have Bible study to understand the WORD and others listen to their inter person that reveal their "Truth"

Dear Pastor Wolfmueller, thank you for the video response. As an ELCA member, I appreciate your passion for LCMS's interpretation of scripture. I appreciate your views on Jesus's love since I struggle with understanding LCMS's position on many issues.
I find it ironic that the sign referenced creates it's own manmade quote for God.
I began watching you the other day. I’m a Baptized Lutheran, I have not been to church since 2009, it closed. I have not been able to take the Eucharist since then, & is definitely something that is missed from my life.
Regarding this video…I think what you are saying, is Jesus wanted only men to preach the Gospel? What happened to Mary Magdalene? I have read exceedingly horrible passages by Paul speaking of women, & of widows and speaking of staying away from certain people in Timothy. Maybe he was deluded or having a bad day, however people use these verses to do things to be ugly to people.
Our scriptures were decided by a tribunal of men on what they thought goes into what we know are the scriptures and threw away those they decided were not for people to see. I believe Mary Magdalene to be an disciple & therefore preached the gospel. It seems obvious they didn’t want to include her. If it is difficult for male pastors, then they have the problem. Mary was given a bad rap by Pope Gregory.
The church has done horrific things over the years. The wars, burning women as witches, burning heretics, the torture of the inquisition, justifying racism, the ongoing sex violations of children. You call this the progressive church, maybe it’s not progressive but truth poking it’s head up from the mud of years of mis-information given to us thru political power of those that made these decisions, it’s been over 500 years when Luther broke from the Catholic Church for many of these same reasons. What was relevant to Luther in 1517 may be a little different today?
You say Christ divides us? I don’t believe that. I believe Christ unites us. I love God & Jesus with all of myself, & willingly will speak with anyone who wishes to speak to me about it. You cannot bring a horse to water and make it drink, just as you cannot preach to an unbeliever to make them believe. Do you really believe Jesus wants us to start wars with others over him or to live in peace & love our neighbors? Maybe if we truly loved our neighbors we wouldn’t “stay away from certain people” maybe we would be the living truth of the love of Jesus, maybe then people would listen and believe. If you give people bread, over bombs don’t you think wars would cease to exist?
You asked what part of the Bible I didn’t like? The one where Jesus speaks of marriage & divorce. I believed in marriage. I lived with an abusive person for over 35 years was finally abandoned. I tried to be a good wife, good mother, keep the house while I worked, all the things I was supposed to do including loving this person but failed. I am divorced. I made the disastrous decision to marry this person…that is my biggest sin.

As a born and raised LCMSer, graduate of the AFLC bible school and an attendee of our local Lutheran Church that's Gospel preaching ELCA, I am LOVING THIS VIDEO.
I converted to Catholicism many years ago from LCA, I believe (which then became ELCA?). This is why I am now reall,y really glad I did: ELCA and the current crazy-ness. The way political extremists, who claim progressive thinking and universal compassion, treat people who don't buy into the empty slogans, BLM and other organizations that have NOT helped the black communities, etc. And the "anything goes" mentality around sex and gender does not work for me anymore. Mad respect for LCMS, thank you. I am watching you and Fr. Mike Schmitz. Awesome balance and not mutually exclusive. After years of writing my own rules and living as if God didn't exist, I need the truth and structure. Cheers.
