I had the moment where, 2 years ago, I prayed for something that seemed not possible to have happen. At that moment, a nonbeliever at the time was moved to pray for closure between a dying woman and her son. A phone call came to him pretty soon after. I humbly petitioned that I, a fall away sinner, wanted something good to happen for others. Currently looking for the right LCMS church for me as I study and learn.

How I do love time I get to spend Pastor W!
    Whether on the drive home or talking to him at St Paul’s or at Higher Things;
I treasure the time I spend learning and listening to brilliant teaching!
I always leave being truly blessed and thankful to God for such willing servants!

I pray sermons we hear in church can begin to convey God's truth for what it is just even nearly as well as these drives home. Thanks for the ride.

Thank you for the content you provide. I'm one of the ones you referenced who this year came to faith in Jesus from agnosticism. I have a question though from the clip at 11:18 you mention the greatest mind ever changed and then said it was when Jesus changes God's mind about us; I'm confused by this statement. Is it possible for God to change his mind being omniscient and Jesus as fully God to change the mind of what I'm assuming you mean, based on the phrasing, the Father?

Since Bible speaks in this way, preachers may as well. Philosophically, we know God is immutable. So it is an awesome mystery that the Bible can say things like,
"Then the LORD *relented* and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened." Ex 32:14

Jesus is 100%human as well as 100% Devine. So he who is the Bread from heaven can hunger and he who is the living water can thirst. He who is Life can die. He, in whom is light and no darkness at all can cast a shadow. He who judges sins can forgive sins because we are safe in his shadow. The one who never changes can repent.
I would encourage you to read my reply to Pastor Bryan among the comments.
      Blessings

I will add that sometimes repentance can be started and or completed by God's spirit. Hence; not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord.

You distinguished between repentance and the fruit of repentance. What difference does it actually make? If fruit is proof of a genuine repentance. Did ‘t Luther even say “there is no inward repentance, which does not outwardly result in mortification of the flesh.” So, it seems you could still mortify the flesh without true repentance, but I doubt you can truly repent without it being evident by works. Thank you.

Does God get mad at us when we sin?

    • @ros6111
      @ros6111 Рік тому

      What If I Sin?
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. AND IF ANYONE SINS, WE HAVE AN ADVOCATE WITH THE FATHER, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1)
A woman, caught in the act of adultery, is brought to Jesus for judgment. She’s as guilty as sin. In the eyes of the law, she is condemned to die.
But with wisdom that silences her accusers, Jesus saves the woman’s life. “I don’t condemn you,” said Jesus. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
This was not a threat, but a declaration of freedom. “Leave your prison of sin.”
When you sin you will have many accusers. The law will accuse you. The judge and jury will accuse you. BUT JESUS WILL NEVER ACCUSE YOU.
INSTEAD, HE SPEAKS IN YOUR DEFENSE. “Charge this sin to my account, and let the accused go free.”
And God the Judge announces in a voice that will not be overruled, “Case dismissed!”
Such good news is hard to believe. “But your honor, you don’t know what I’ve done.”
And the court of heaven replies, “You don’t know what Christ has done. He who knew no sin became sin so that you who were never righteous might become righteous with Christ’s righteousness.”
This is what grace does. Grace breaks the bonds of sin and removes the yoke of guilt. Grace lifts us from the clay and sets us on the rock.
Grace draws our gaze heavenward and gives us wings to fly.

I appreciate the talk. You had really good thoughts; but could there be something you're missing?
    What does repentance look like?
It doesn't look like Judas, though he recognized he betrayed an innocent man; and even anguished over his sin unto death, yet he couldn't find repentance.
It doesn't look like Esau, though he sought for it carefully with tears, yet he couldn't find repentance.
Repentance is a complete change of direction. It is going against one's own way. It is a going in the way that means your own death. It is the denying of self, a losing of one's life, a giving all to the neighbor and following Jesus unto death. It is the hand to the plough that doesn't turn back. It is a cutting off of the offending member. It is a keeping of the word of God and the fulfilling of all the commandments.
It is in baptism that you deny yourself, lose your life, and keep the word of Christ. Yes, it is the word of God, His Name given you, that ends your way, your life, and your will, uniting you to Christ's death giving you His work, way, and will; and turns you from death to Life. It's the word that is efficacious. Repentance and the fruit of repentance are in the baptismal water.
The granting of repentance is the word of Jesus given by sure and certain means. Jesus gave repentance to the woman caught in the act of adultry. Jesus gave repentance to the paralyzed man. Jesus gave repentance to the woman at the well. Jesus gave repentance to the thief on the cross. It was Jesus' word that gave the repentance.
Where do we have that word given to us that was as sure to the thief on the cross"This day you will be with Me in Paradise"? In baptism!
Jesus didn't say to the paralyzed man "If you repent" or to the thief on the cross "If you believe". No. The word given did all; it worked faith, repentance, forgiveness of sins, life and salvation.
That's why repentance looks like a washing, an anointing, and a naming. Baptism is repentance and the fruit of repentance is the gift of the Spirit, being clothed with Christ.
In the exodus, repentance looked like the children of Israel, after being bitten by snakes in the wilderness, gazing at the bronze serpent on a pole.
It is thought that "Repent and be baptized" are two separate things, but they're together. To be baptized is to repent. To be baptized is to believe.
Naaman dipping in the Jordan was believing and it was repenting. It was the obedience of faith and a turning away from the waters of his homeland. The sure word was put in the Jordan for Naaman. What if he didn't get healed even though he dipped 7 times in the Jordan? It was the word from the prophet; you and I know that's an absurd thought, right? It's not like the prophet would say to Naaman, "Well, I guess you didn't believe hard enough." No, the word does what the word says.
If I said "If you believe and sit in the chair, it will hold you." Sitting in the chair is believing the chair will hold you, for you've committed yourself to it's support no matter how fearfully you sit.
The prodigal son was given repentance by the words and works of his father. Before the father rushed to him and spoke to him, the son came with only a selfish scheme "This I will do..." He plotted his own survival; but after the father's acceptance of him as his son 'made alive' then the same words the son had schemed were turned to truth; they became the fruits of repentance while he was being clothed with his father's cloak.
"Turn us and we will be turned" Amen! This He does in baptism; and the Christian always walks a baptismal walk and this is the life of repentance that is given to us.

Repent is not transitive in English. Based on Psalm 23, seems like it is in Hebrew. Makes it a rough concept to translate.

I and most law enforcement officers would say it is prideful and narcissistic for an arrogant man to produce UA-cam videos while driving. Bryan puts self before others safety and I'm guessing he even answers text while driving. So why would you trust him in your journey with the LORD, when he cares less about others on their journey to the supermarket or going to pick up their children from school? Look who long and often Bryan is distracted by the camera.
