Awesome!!! Black mage and Calculator are my two favorite job classes of all time and this is in my second favorite Final Fantasy game of all time after part 4. I've played this game like 20 times! I can't wait to watch this.
When I saw this thumbnail&title I thought to myself: " I thought that was a challenge channel". after watching the video, there seem to be some difficult fights for the black mages. well done!
I was a bit concerned myself when recording because I completely stomped through act 1. But it definitely got harder as enemies got more ranged options later in the game.
@Xephrost_Gaming How about something more challenging, Ramza only. 1 Ramza any skill except calculator/darknight. Im pretty sure you already have a million runs queued up, so do not worry if you can't/won't. Im glad you're doing all theses challenges, kudos friend!
Gonna give ff tactics: wotl another chance with ppsspp on my phone. I don't have my psp anymore otherwise i would have bought the game. It looks so fun with all the jobs and character customization. I think i gave up too soon the other times i've tried playing the game. You make great content sir, i always watch your videos when i see a new one in my feed. Have a great weekend!
So the Algus/Argath battle at Limberry Castle is generally a pretty tough battle across the board. I know for my own magic only challenge I used my own Reflect to bypass his. Reflected spells cannot be double reflected! So for example here, you could've had Ramza equip the Reflect Ring you get as a battle treasure before this point. Then you use him as a casting point for your spells to sling at Algus/Argath. It may take a little time to figure out the correct positioning to aim your spells, but, it is probably one of my favorite ways to overcome the challenge he provides.
It's honestly a battle I had no memory of, despite having beaten the game several times. On a casual playthrough, I tend to grind up really strong job combos, so nothing in act 4 ends up being too bad. It really caught me off guard. I hadn't even thought about reflect. That's the big brain play. I'm so set on thinking protect is a detriment because I almost exclusively heal through magic. I really should do better about using it offensively (especially if I do future solo class runs in this game).
Oh man I was worried at the start (thinking that black mage only would be almost impossible) but you did so well in this challenge. Favourite job class is probably the arithmatist/calculator
I was honestly very surprised at how well "deal big damage" carried through the game. I had considered adding in item use if needed (since items are normally accessible to every class in final fantasy games). But, nope, not even necessary. Just cast flare. lol
I never knew black mages could be so strong. Thanks for the vid! I played this in college... I leaned towards the special knights + monks for their range and sustain, but these black mages can do a lot of damage! It might not even be worth leveling up to the levels above it, like summoner and oracle.
I did something like this back when I was younger. I would level up ninjas to be able to double wheeled, and then I would run for black mages and a white mage all being able to use two rods at the same time on the . version that I played that would mean that you got to double the spell cast for the same amount of MP.
So doing 'all one job' for this game (or as we called them "Straight Character Challenges/Single Class Challenges" was a HUGE thing back in the mid-late 00s. The general rule was that all challenges actually start at Dorter, so you can do the ' Siedge Weald' (Sweegy Woods) without having to worry about monsters being too high level after you grind to get jobs (plus it's a much easier map as you don't have to deal with chocobos). Might want to consider that for future runs if you do any. Also there was some level cap stuff but for Black Mages it's fully irrelevant as you'd never come close.... So at the Lanalia Castle game you can equip rubber shoes to nerf most of the enemies. As for the undead humans, they are actually different jobs, which might be why you had such trouble. Now the Sluice....could have sword it doesn't matter if you kill all enemies, you still have to hit the switch, but maybe not, or maybe they changed it from PSX to PSP. But yeah, which I never did this challenge I remember reading mage classes have REAL trouble here. And LOL at keeping the scrubs for the Rouge. :D
Good information. And yeah, I can't speak to the original, haven't played that in decades, but in the Wotl version, just killing everyone ends the fight at the sluice. And yeah, the Rouge is so strong in any challenge. And I wasn't using those party slots for anyone else anyway.
Back in the ps1 era I grinder out 2 mimes, 2 bards, and 3 dancers as my party. It worked great. Dancers doing slow and bards singing haste until I have all the actions and enemies have none. The problem? With the mimes copying everything they hit lvl 99 while the rest were in their 30’s. Random encounter Enemies scale with the highest member. Lvl 99 Chochobos would destroy me b4 I got a turn. The story encounters would be fine tho but it was a pita to move one, save or reload depending on whether I got a random encounter or not.
I think Ninjas learned a skill called "Sunken State" or something like that. It was a reaction ability that would turn the character invisible in response to damage. I dont feel like googling it. Anyway, I broke the game by having a party full of Dancers with that reaction ability while doing the damage dance. Everyone dances, turns invisible, and then the enemies eventually die, I assume very confused as to why.
Regarding the second fight with Barich @ 28 minutes, I *believe* the reason he moves to the side, rather than backing away from you, is because the AI is prioritizing the kill on Ramza. Guns (and crossbows) cannot fire over units like bows can, so if Barich had backed up the attack would have hit your unit standing in front of Ramza. Thus the need for the angled shot.
I did a play through with Ramza as a squire and four dancers, it was hilarious, the dancers kept draining enemies hq and mq, they could hardly fight back
That's very funny. I feel like 1 dancer isn't very good because they don't deal enough damage to be super impactful. 4 dancers though just very quickly kill everyone.
This is how I always end up playing Tactics. I don't really grind anymore so I rarely get the deathknight. So everyone is a blackmage with items or monk if I got that done.
Could you pretty pretty please keep doing vids like this. Tactics 1 class all classes or at least possible classes. Or do mages or and all class for tactics advance?? Tactics for life!!!
Random encounters are scaled based on the highest level character in the roster, which may or may not be Ramza. Story missions are at fixed levels, so enemies in story missions will always be the same level, regardless of the party levels.
I've tried so many times to get into tactical rpgs like final fantasy tactics and tactics ogre but the format doesn't agree with me. I really want to experience the story in these games because i've heard so many good things about them over the course of my life.
"It has a better translation than the original PSX release" You can tell it's better because it has all the best quotes removed and replaced with goofy-sounding purple prose.
@@relishcakes4525I hope being an idiot isn't your whole personality. I made a joke, based on how Ramza gets both types of stats. That's all it was a joke. Yet you had to make a comment about me, someone you don't even know. Why? Do you have nothing better to do?
What's everyone's favorite job class in Final Fantasy Tactics?
Might be a nerd, but calculator is a ton of fun!
DANCER!!!
Thunder god Cid
Does he make the game easy? Yes
Do I enjoy the game still? Yes
Geomancer
Calculator by far!!!!
Well this is pretty cool.
I'm waiting for you to do a FFT challenge as well!

Whenever I hear 'magic class' and 'FFT', the immediate knee jerk temptation is to ask, "Math skills?"
I do love a good math skill.
Ah yes math skills instant free cast mass magic. Perfectly balanced as all things should be
This is easily one of the best games in the series
It's definitely near the top of my list. It just ticks all the right boxes.
Beautiful. I imagine the history books in Ivalice are so confused by this mob of angry female black mages
Just archeologists wondering why there seem to be so many enormous scorch marks on buildings.
A new Xephrost_Gaming's Final fantasy related video??? Instant watch and like! 🎉🎉🎉
One of my favorite games of all time, glad to see you covering it!
FFT is one of my favorite games of all times, love seeing solo job challenge of it, hope we see more down the line! Great work, as always.

Ramaza and two black mages is pretty much the speedrun strategy for the first half of the game.
A wild Orlandeau appears!
Final fantasy tactics is my favorite as well.

I will definitely be doing more tactics runs in the future. This was a lot of fun.
This gets me thinking once more about FFTA challenge runs... maybe I should try one myself.
Red Mages: the Playthrough seems like it'd be neat.
FFTA would be really interesting. The game is very similar in some ways, and very different in others.

I also did this challenge on the PSX but farmed more levels.

Fft is honestly the best game in the series and probably one of the best games ever made full stop.
Btw made a Ramza (ch2 and 3) in Elden Ring

Love the FF8 music ❤
I did something like this on a playthrough once. I had my entire party as the same class starting from squire until they each fully mastered the class
Did not expect A: Tuesday or B: Tactics
Edit: I like to think that Flare is literally calling pinpoint flares from the sun at THAT GUY IN PARTICULAR
All your mage only runs are like cocaine to me. Every RPG I get I instantly start strategizing about how to do a magic run.
I think Ninjas learned a skill called "Sunken State" or something like that. It was a reaction ability that would turn the character invisible in response to damage. I dont feel like googling it. This is a damn good game. I still have a PS1 and this game.
This is something I can get behind.

Ohhh. That would make sense. I really need to spend some time learning how the AI in this game works. Because it may be helpful in future videos.
And my tax day has been made! A black mage only AND in FF Tactics?
Bards are always going to be my favourite, even if they aren't really that great.
Also I hope you do more FFT videos, I love this game.
Nice change up
My favorite ff game of all time followed very closely by ff6
y'know; with mods, you can do a Red Mage only on Tactics. . .
The temptation is very real now...
Megumins hit squad
5:34 So in the PSP version in Lenalia Plateau you have to kill everyone? I didn't know that on the PS1 you only have to kill Miluda
Enemies standing in lines for this playthrough feels equivalent to in shooter games where enemies cleverly hide behind exploding barrels 😂
Very much the same experience.
This is how I always end up playing Tactics. I don't really grind anymore so I rarely get the deathknight. So everyone is a blackmage with items or monk if I got that done.
I appreciate that, with the exception of squire, all the early classes are still viable for the entire game.
Could you pretty pretty please keep doing vids like this. Tactics 1 class all classes or at least possible classes. Or do mages or and all class for tactics advance??
Tactics for life!!!
It is way easier in the original fft even if you are allowed to glitch level up spells without using jp, this reminds me of my solo ramza playthrougha
I've heard the first Lucavi demon pronounced "Coo-kuh-lin". I think you were really close the first time
a single high turn speed Priest / Mage with Math skill as secondary, can end the game before turn 2 begins.
You should make an easier challenge on yourself on FFT now: beat the game without using Chemist... You should at least have some healing options...
This should be easy. Literally just watched someone do a speed run of FFT and Black Mages were essentially the meta.

Did you have black Mage mastered by the end?
Do enemies levels not just scale with Ramza's?
Random encounters are scaled based on the highest level character in the roster, which may or may not be Ramza. Story missions are at fixed levels, so enemies in story missions will always be the same level, regardless of the party levels.
@@Xephrost_Gaming Ohh! Learned something new! Loved your vid btw.
