I would also say to listen to "Texas Flood" at El Mocambo. Not sure if this is true, but I've read in comments that Stevie went to pay his respects to Jimi's family and they gave him Jimi's Wah pedal. If that's true, he made pretty good use of it here. This is one of my fave Jimi tracks.

Extended version, rockoplast, and Nashville where he plays while shaking hands with a fan, those are good versions. This one too but I can't find many versions where I was disappointed in his tolerance level that night.

That guy is Stevie Ray Vaughan. He's a true Texas treasure. We Texans consider him to be the best there ever was, or ever will be. We catch a lot of shit for saying that, but we don't care. Hell, it ain't bragging if you can back it up. Stevie Ray could back it up. We love him and miss him every single day. 🤠🥳

Been watching many great guitar players for over half a century. 1st concert was The Beatles. Saw Cream, Hendrix, Duane Allman, etc. No matter how good, there was a human trip up somewhere ... of course. Not this man. Never heard him miss ... not once. He simply opened the gate & it flowed.

Stevie was a huge Hendrix fan, this is his tribute to Jimi. If you would like to view some of his more individual songs check out "Texas Flood" live from the El Mocombo. For a glimpse of professional on stage cool check out "Look at Little Sister" from this same show (austin city limits, 1989) and for a sample of his smooth vocals & songwriting "Life Without You" from Capitol Theare. He had a #1 hit with "Crossfire" from the same austin city limits in 1989 - that one is a barnburner! It is also worth doing a little research about the person he was, a gentle, humble, funny & smart man who had a difficult childhood and someone who helped so many others achieve sobritery after he waged his own battle with drugs & alcohol. I really like your reactions and now with the addition of SRV, I plan to become a subscriber. Heaven got a great addition to the band & a good soul when they got Stevie!

Sadly... Stevie died in August of 1990 in a helicopter crash. He was playing at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. It's close to Chicago. He played that night with Buddy Guy, his brother... Jimi Vaughan... Robert Cray, and Eric Clapton. They closed... all playing together... with Sweet Home Chicago. Stevie brought the house down, and blew everyone else off the stage. He got on the helicopter to go back to Chicago... an hour flight... and it slammed into the side of a hill because of fog. He was 35. You only get genius and brilliance and light like that in flashes. That's why we only had him for a short time. He was a beautiful human being, and I miss him. I was 18 when he died, and I cried like a baby when I heard. The list of celebrities at his funeral was amazing. They included Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Wonder. I love you, Stevie... and good for this guy for this video. PEACE. Stevie grew up in Oak Cliff... a rough area of North Dallas, Texas. He came from nothing, and started when he was a teenager. Even then, everyone knew he was ridiculously good. He fell into a vat of old grease when he was 15, and working at a burger stand. He vowed right then and there that he would NEVER work a regular job again, and would only play guitar. WE ARE BLESSED.

Stevie Ray Vaughn came after JIMI HENDRIX. So he had someone to model his music from.
JIMI HENDRIX IS AN WAS THE ORIGINAL BADASS GUITAR PLAYER. HENDRIX STARTED IT ALL. UNFORTUNATELY, HE DIED EARLY TOO. ALL THE GOOD DIE YOUNG.

  • @JG-ef2cn
    @JG-ef2cn 3 роки тому +1

You gotta remember Jimi Hendrix wrote the song, put Lyrics & lead riffs & rhythm to it, play it and it's his own. Stevie is just copying it & kickin it in high gear but remember the song is already written and established for him to play. Which is a whole lot easier than from scratch, but still killer. Either way Jimi still number 1 in guitar & vocals, SRV number 2 in guitar copying his music with extra flair. BUT, Here's the REAL Deal, they asked SRV one time, why do you always play Jimi Hendrix covers on your albums???.... and SRV says; " CUZ HE'S THE BADDEST CAT I KNOW".
As far as I'm concerned, Enuff Said brother!

  • @athlonen

Another reactor said it best. Before he heard this performance, he said "Only one person can play Jimi Hendrix songs, and that's Jimi Hendrix." Then he saw this. Then he said "Only 2 people can play Jimi Hendrix songs: Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan."
    'nuff said.

So crazy hearing people say who is this guy. One thing social media got right is letting these legends live on so younger generations can discover them, so they'll never be forgotten. SRV is the GOAT. No matter what anyone says, I'll debate it till the end. He's the best to ever do it
There's not one person better than SRV. SRV far surpassed Hendrix imo. Although Hendrix was unbelievably inventive and a natural. Maybe the most natural guitarist ever.

As a guitarist SRV was better than Jimi. As an Innovator and creator it’s Jimi all the way. This is just my opinion but I know two things I think both set of fans can agree on and that’s
    1) they both died way to young
    2) it would have been great to see them share a stage and play off each other.
Check out Texas Flood Live at The EL Macambo I think and again just my opinion that is the greatest guitar performance ever

  • @mookie7688

Stevie was always great but this is a mature and sober SRV at the height of his game, shortly before his death at age 35. It's worth remembering that Jimi was only 27 when he passed, and wondering what else he might have accomplished if he had lived another eight years.

  • @cocobeachvillage4310

He was heavily inspired by and looked up to Jimmy Hendrix and apparently bought Jimmy’s foot pedal after Jimmy passed away. The song was in tribute / memory of Jimmy’s excellence. In the end, SRV became a blues guitar legend himself and was a heavy blues influencer to bring blues back in the 80’s. He was strangely ahead of his time and yet very old school too. He played side by side on stage with famous top old school blues guitarists, including Albert King and BB King. SRV may have been a TX man with a southern accent that never learned to read music - but he played from his heart and with true soul. It’s rumored that back in those days, Eric Clapton once said the only time he ever got nervous on stage was when he was playing next to SRV. 😂 I like your array of music. Subscribed. ✌🏼❤️

Hi Jordon I'm Scott! I normally don't comment on videos on UA-cam, but after watching your reaction to Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb Pulse Live and now Stevie Ray Vaughan, I just couldn't resist responding. I actually just came across your channel the other day, and I've already subscribed after watching your music reactions. You have a great personality, and you seem very genuine with your reactions which is awesome to see. It's been really great watching you discover all of the artists and songs you have so far. Since you really enjoy guitar solos (I love them too), you really should check out Stevie Ray Vaughan playing Texas Flood (Live at the El Mocambo version), and you've got to check out Eddie Van Halen performing Eruption Live. That one is sure to blow you away. Other songs you should also consider would be Lynryd Skynyrd's Free Bird, and AC/DC's Back in Black since you enjoyed Thunderstruck so much. I can hardly wait to see what you discover next!

Yes, it's a cover of Hendrix. SRV is the greatest rock/blues guitarist who ever lived. He drew influence from Jimi and SRV came along some 15 years after Jimi passed away at 27. Jimi trailblazed what you see here from SRV. 15 years later, SRV took what Jimi taught to the next level.

Simply bullshit. Jimi took his music galaxies further than SRV. Is it because SRV played some licks (always the same licks btw) a bit faster? SRV was super traditional whereas Jimi was an explorer, an inventor and a visionary.

Yes this is Stevies cover of a Jimi Hendrix song - and you aint seen NOTHING yet. You need to check out "TEXAS FLOOD LIVE AT ELMOCAMBO" - arguably the best blues/soul guitar performance ever recorded. I saw Stevie play live twice and he killed it both times. It astonishes me how many people havent heard of SRV. Hes one of the very best blues/soul guitar players to ever pick up a guitar and many legends say the same. Youve opened a big rabbit hole of SRV's work and its a great ride.

  • @petem.3719
    @petem.3719 2 роки тому

SRV was the best thing that ever came out of Texas since Janis. Truly the GOAT. He was more technically accurate, cleaner sounding, more dynamic,, more versatile and more fluid in his playing than anyone out there, I daresay even Jimi. Stevie could cover any Hendrix song and usually make it sound better than the original, this song being a case in point. I couldn't say the reverse is true. Voice aside, Stevie could go places Jimi's style just didn't fit.
No disrespect to Hendrix. He was the innovator. But SRV grew to outpace him. Jimi was a '69 Ferrari. SRV's a 2021 Lambo.

When reacting to SRV - always go for a live version. Everything improvised [same as Clapton] and no 2 solos the same. Also most guitarists play with 9 or 10 gauge strings - he played with 12 or 13....that hurts but gives such a great tone!

I think you're asking the wrong question. Stevie was heavily influenced by JImi. Hendrix passed in 1970 and SRV passed in 1990. I like to think that Stevie picked up where Jimi left off and carried that torch to the next level. If there had never been a Hendrix Stevie would have never sounded like this. Hendrix was great. In the top 10 of all time, for sure.
Buy Stevie Ray was a blues savant who never took a guitar lesson in his life. He was on a different planet. And the vocals? Yeah, Hendrix was much better than Stevie was. But Stevie himself once said, "Everybody's a better vocalist than I am. I'm only doing the vocals because nobody else in the band wants to."

Yeah its a cover of Hendrix. SRV was a Hendrix fan, and if you notice his vibrato bar is on the top, so SRV uses a bridge from a left handed guitar emulating how when Hendrix played a right handed guitar strung backwards, and upside down, his vibrato bar was also on the top instead of the bottom like most folks.

You wont find a better Blues Guitarist than this GENIUS , No Man is or was in the same class, it's not possible, Clapton Hendrix Moore, Beck, to name a few, they are incredible Guitarists, but no one was as good as SRV. Never will be, he's a one-off!

Don't get caught up in the whose better whose best crap. There are hundreds of guitarists and thousands of musicians who can blow your mind. The best is really only your favorite and for me SRV is one of my favorite favorites. Also check out guys like John Petrucci and Steve Vai for incredible speed and technical skills. Roy Clark was a country musician from the 60's who mastered multiple stringed instruments
    Definitely check them out!

Stevie had no equal, you were just turned on to the greatest player the Blues has ever seen. Stevie single handedly revived the Blues man, nobody ever did it better.

Not bad for a 5 foot 5 inch Texas boy, huh,? ☺️
BTW, he's using Jimi's wah pedal in this.
This is the video your guitar watches while you're not at home.

Fun fact: Stevie used VERY heavy guage strings. When you see him bend notes like that please understand that 90% of guitar players can't do that.

better late than never to discover SRV. Saw him live about 7 or 8 times in my youth and I can tell you that 8/27/90 was one of the worst days of my life. I don't think that a determination can be made as to who's better between Stevie and Jimi ... they each had their time. I completely agree with one of your other viewers who suggested that you watch “Texas Flood” live at El Mocambo ... it is one of SRV's most iconic tunes and a must watch.

One of his mentors, was Albert king i believe. Blues guitarist. Stevie had great respect for Hendrix. First time i heard this song. Thought it was Hendrix.

Hendrix was one of SRV's main influence.
If Stevie sounds better, it's Jimi who set the standard and showed every future guitar player what's possible with six strings, a plug and an understanding of blues and its endless intuitive playing forever giving out something new with the same simple formula, making anyone who wants to feel connected.
The simple things in life are always the most powerful.

The best line I've ever heard about Stevie was from another famous guitarist the name escapes me right now but he said " If you don't play guitar Stevie makes you wanna learn, but if you do play guitar he makes you wanna quit"

He might be the best guitar player ever, I'm a Randy rhoads, David gilmour fan.. but Stevie Ray shreds it I might have to rethink my position.

The debate about best guitarist will go on forever. For my money, it's pretty clear if you take bias out of it. SRV is a better pure, technical guitarist and Jimmi is better showman and performer who impacted the industry more. To me...SRV is the best guitarist just in terms of straight skill, speed and accuracy.

When someone asked Jimi Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world he said," I don't know. You'll have to ask Stevie Ray Vaughn."

Or react to "Look At Little Sister" from the same concert in Austin, Texas. It's DAMN near as good as Voodoo Child.
