He is crazyyyyy🔥 Sorry about the edits per usual, youtube being youtube. Only way to avoid this is to probably make the video super small, or make the opacity super low.
It's so great to see you enjoying Stevie Ray. I love him so much. He's got so many MUST sees out there. I loved your reaction to Lynyrd Skynyrd "Call Me The Breeze " as you throughly enjoyed the piano solo. Stevie Ray's pianist was straight up FIRE and I believe you'd enjoy "Look at Little Sister ". Talk about a piano solo. Stevie Ray never played a song the same way twice, and he also did this exact same song (Look at Little Sister) with Jeff Healey. Jeff was blind, and holy shit, you should seriously watch BOTH of those performances. Same song, two completely mind blowing performances. 🤯 If you ever come to Texas, go visit Stevie Ray's statue in Austin. He's a straight up demi god here. 👌🥳🎸💯
To answer one of your questions, Stevie stuck with the right chord changes and rhythm, but he improvised everything else. You'll not find two versions of him playing this song (or any song) that are the same, nor even that close to the same.
You said ‘most artists’ and I just thought, ‘Stevie Ray Vaughan was *not* most artists’, to answer, it depends on the song, with something like Texas Flood, (or Voodoo Chile, check out his rendition of THAT at the El Mocombo, he’s going to play the song, but he’s gonna play it playing the ideas that are happening in his mind *at that time* so particularly the solos are going to vary. If he likes an idea, he might keep it ~as you’re going to see later on in this video. (Imagine Bowie *thinking* ‘after I get this guy on my record, he’ll walk down the steps and onto the stage exactly as we tell him to, because he’s about making a ton of money, like me, I mean, that’s the whole point, right?’)
His brother Jimmy was once being interviewed and was asked, " Does Stevie ever play a song the same way twice? " to which Jimmy quickly quipped, "Hell, Stevie never played a song the same way ONCE! " Epic...lol
IMO the best there was! Stevie played with as much or more pure raw emotion than anyone ever, therefore no two shows ever sounded the same! I am blessed to have seen him twice!
Everytime I attend a concert at Alpine Valley Music Center I find a quiet corner and take a few moments to reflect and pay my respects to Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan .
Any bluesman worth his salt plays balls out from the heart. So that means improvisation is the standard.....if that bluesman is worth any kind of a damn.
Gone WAY too soon- what an amazing talent. 20 seconds into any of his songs and you know you're seeing/hearing greatness AND he can sing with such soul. Only the good die young. One of a handful of guitar gods.
Indeed. Love how at the beginning of the intro, he steps up to the mike, is about to start to sing then says to himself- “You know what? fuck it, let me rip this here a bit more, I’m feelin’ it!” Man was a living legend.
This man is the real deal. I often wonder how much better he could’ve gotten (if that’s even possible) had he lived beyond his 30’s. I live in Texas & it makes me incredibly sad that I never had the chance to see him perform live. My mom did & got to meet him after the show. She said he was very genuine & humble. RIP SRV
"Life Without You" Live at Capitol Theater is my favorite for many reasons. 1) The seemless guitar change 2) He speaks to the audience 3) the lyrics he wrote & sings for his friend Charley were actually chosen for Stevie's own gravestone 😭 "for all the love you brought our way" 4) He plays guitar with something besides his hands. Enjoy the GOAT 🩷 Love u SRV
Please, please check out Stevie Ray Vaughan with one of his inspirations, Johnny Copeland, performing Tin Pan Alley at the Montreux Jazz Festival. And the entire 1989 Austin City Limits show is mind-blowing. My favorites are (what I feel is his best performance of) Voodoo Child, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Crossfire, Cold Shot, Tightrope and an impressive mid-song guitar switch when a string broke on Look at Little Sister. You'll get to really appreciate how talented everyone in Double Trouble is as well as enjoying one of the greatest guitarists ever. During this 1989 show, the instrumental Riviera Paradise is soul-touching. Stevie looked so healthy and happy and left us soon after. That performance being recorded is a treasure.
I used to go watch Stevie Ray in the early 80's here in Austin... there wasn't anyone else like him, then or now, or ever again. I feel privileged to have witnessed this genius. He was simply the best ever.
You can never go wrong with SRV. He oozes the blues as well as being a phenomenal guitarist. Check out "Couldn't Stand the Weather" or anything he does. Your smile told it all👍🎼🎸🎶
Every time Stevie performed he put his heart and soul into it ! When he was done he looked like he crawled out of a pool.! Stevie was just as real as he was a guitar master !❤ He is so missed !!!!!
Stevie had a thousand riffs under his fingers, he had been stealing and listening and messing around for 20 years by this time. There would be a similarity to the ambiance of the song, and some signature licks to breed familiarity, but how they strung together was anyones pleasure.
There is, was, nor ever will be another SRV. Once in a lifetime talent. I remember I was listening to the radio when the DJ broke into the middle of a song to announce his death. One of the few times I cried after learning of a musician’s death. Stevie had just gotten clean and had his whole life ahead of him. Still makes me sad when I think about it.
If you think watching a video of him playing behind his back is amazing then imagine it live! Saw him back in 84 and man.....Blown Away is an understatement. Still one of the best concerts I have seen to this very day.
He plays a lot of the time with his eyes closed, let alone playing behind his back. He knows every inch of that guitar. As for ad lib well is you watch Tommy Shannon you see he watches Stevie all the time to see what his doing. You looked away at the end when he was alternating back and forth. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Every single one of his live performances are different!!! Majority of his playing is ad libbing… crazy impressive, it all just flows through him in the moment
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness Stevie never played a song the same way twice. Hell, he couldn't even read music! He was self-taught. The dude was a kind and humble soul and a gift from the heavens. **Life Without You at Capitol Theater**
Lol, I was waiting impatiently for SRV to start singing because he has it all!!! I knew you would love him because he was damn near perfect. And yes, swag it would be!
“It wasn’t ever that he took a breather or paused to think where he was going to go next. It just flowed out of him. Always seemed to flow out of him and actually, even that doesn’t come just with virtuosity, practice or any of those. It’s not a question of doing it over and over again or anything like that. It’s just that he seemed to be an open channel. He just flowed through him; he never ever seemed to kind of dry up.”- Eric Clapton
They say SRV didn't plug into an amp, he plugged into his soul = this is the song/performance I would time machine too out of any. His duet with Johnny Copeland on Tin Pan Alley is the dirtiest meanest blues duet ever as well. RIP LEGEND/GOAT
I have been so blessed to have been born in 1960 and old enough to see alll these incredible musicians like Stevie Ray and others live! It was a golden age that will never come again!
SRV was from Dallas. A small area just SW of downtown called Oak Cliff. I was a jock at a station on that side of downtown, and one Saturday he showed up unannounced. Stayed for two hours. All he brought was a cooler of water and beer. He was a sweetheart. ☮️❤️😎 on the air once I said that he must have played in the womb. Hi mother had the most difficult birth of all time. Not only did she have to push out a baby, but a guitar too.
As a blues musician, I can say for certain there is NOWHERE to go to experience this. That fateful night of August 27, 1990 over Troy Wisconsin was the exact moment we lost the momentum the blues had to becoming mainstream DJ plays. Stevie had garage bands all over the country emulating him. I can't think of but one other such phenom in the blues genre that had the same attention. And that would be ZZ Top.
There was never anybody better, will never be anybody better! My mom was so in love with Stevie Ray, the first thing I did when I heard he died was call her to make sure she was alright. RIP SRV and Mom
To answer your question at 11:53 in the video, SRV had song structure and planned changes at certain parts, but he was known for never really playing the same song/solo the same way each concert. No one gives the drummer or bass player enough recognition. They had excellent ability to follow SRV's changes, speed and intensity. If you do more SRV videos, i highly recommend "Lenny", or "Riviera Paradise".

This show is probably the best you will see a guitarist every play.
Stevie Ray discovered a youth guitarist named Jeff Healey, who is blind and righteous talent in his own right. Watch this video. And then, react to Jeff and Stevie play together on PRIDE AND JOY. You will appreciate the depth of both talents after picking your head up off the floor. Enjoy
Stevie Ray was what's known as a Texas Blues man. His extreme talent was hampered early days by his drink and drugs problems. He later kicked it all found live in a beautiful woman from New Zealand and was due to marry her. He was playing at some, I think jazz, festival I can't remember where but he was with Eric Clapton. After rather than the long uncomfortable ride back in a car , he was given a seat in the 2nd of Clapton's helicopters . The helicopter crashed into a mountain shortly after take off and he was killed along with some of Clapton's entourage. It was a very sad day indeed when the world list Stevie Ray Vaughan. Can't remember which, someone will say, but he played a brilliant guitar solo in one of David Bowie's hits, and was supposed to go on tour with him but pulled out. He was extremely well thought of among his peers
i saw him about 6 times. First 2 were in smaller venues and i got to be with 20 feet of him. Every show i felt drained afterwords. Like he took my soul for a journey through the stars and i ended up bewildered at what i just experienced
I highly suggest Life Without You at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ written by Stevie for his close friend Charlie Wirz who was a mentor to Stevie and they worked on guitars together. He always uses a white guitar called Charlie for that song. It's his best vocal an excellent solo and a great message. It's my favorite. You can never listen alone you have to watch his performances and he never did it exactly the same way. Eric Clapton said he was like an open channel Stevie never had to think about what would come next ...Clapton said he couldn't play like that sometimes he had to think of what came next.
" Under the Neon Palms " at the Ol' Elmo. My favourite club in the 1970s. All of SRV's clips from this session are just as good. He never runs out of ideas. I've sat in that room listening to Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, etc. It is very small.
Tin Pan Alley. SRV with Johnny Copeland. Or Riviera Paradise at Austin City Limits. Right in line with this one. He’s my favorite and is missed every day.
This is the definition of singular talent. Several people have exhibited singular talent in my lifetime. Prince, Bowie etc. SRV was up there. I can't figure out how his strings aren't all breaking simultaneously let alone how he keeps up the passion. Dude could play for DAYS. Ridiculous
Love your reaction! Stevie is my all time favorite, I was lucky to see him and DT 8 times in concert. Always intense, and spiritual experience. Definitely stick with live performances, they are just so magical. I highly recommend Life Without You from Capital Center. Stevie just bares his soul! RIP SRV, I still miss you!
I said to myself, self just wait til he hears his voice. Good for Blues? Oh yeah. A master. I think Neil Young said you have to give it all on stage. I think we're good here.
Haven't listen to this in a few years... I used to be SRV obsessive. He's got the chops for sure, but keeps it rooted in the tradition of the music and doesn't wander off into prog rock. Despite the number of notes he plays, you still get the sense of the spaces between...it's tasteful, on point and not an avalanche of Ego guitar. His vituosity reminds me of a great sportsman, he doesn't fight to pack in as much as he can, but like a sporting great, he seems to have that extra yard and the seconds seem to pass more slowly for him...more time to do what he has to do. A sad loss so early, just grateful for the body of work he left behind.
My all time favorite SRV❤️❤️❤️. I loved your reaction!!! He never played a song the same way. Each performance was different. And believe me when I say his live performances are imo just as great as the studio. There are so many great performances from him. I would love to see you react to Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater. Towards the end he grins and turns to his crew off stage and mouths I lost my tooth, then grins again and mouths Gone. And of course finishes the song. Can’t wait for the next SRV reaction!!!
SRV was the greatest guitar player to ever pick up a guitar, BB King said so in an interview RIP, we lost a true treasure when he passed. I was lucky to be alive when he was at the top, he also died at the top
He is crazyyyyy🔥 Sorry about the edits per usual, youtube being youtube. Only way to avoid this is to probably make the video super small, or make the opacity super low.

Buckle Up!
One of the top 3 guitarists ever if not the GOAT.
He’s just the GOAT OF GOATS....PERIOD!😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nobody could make a guitar cry and sing like SRV. RIP Stevie.
Sorry, but Hendrix did and far better.(and earlier)
RIP, Stevie. Gone but never forgotten. Stevie would play it different every time. It was epic. ❤🤘🏼
His brother Jimmy was once being interviewed and was asked, " Does Stevie ever play a song the same way twice? " to which Jimmy quickly quipped, "Hell, Stevie never played a song the same way ONCE! "

And that's awesome! Lucky you.
Lucky arse!
SRV, one of the greatest ever to draw a breath!
Stevie Ray was thee very best . Saw his last west coast performance That was a Blessing
It's Stevie! You just had your awakening
Welcome the SRV! Go down this rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed.
SRV = THE G.O.A.T.
Everytime I attend a concert at Alpine Valley Music Center I find a quiet corner and take a few moments to reflect and pay my respects to Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan .
SRV left a smoking hole in every stage he ever played on. The best of the best.
Any bluesman worth his salt plays balls out from the heart.
So that means improvisation is the standard.....if that bluesman is worth any kind of a damn.
It’s about time you got to him...Dude🤨 He’s just the GOAT OF GOATS! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A true legend. One of the few artists I say to do the live versions of his songs instead of studio. His live performances are unmatched.
Gone WAY too soon- what an amazing talent. 20 seconds into any of his songs and you know you're seeing/hearing greatness AND he can sing with such soul. Only the good die young. One of a handful of guitar gods.

I lived in Austin while in my 20s and saw him 8 times, mostly in outdoor venues. But unfortunately never got to meet him.
The Texas Blues. Welcome!
SRV TRUE GOAT! Rest in paradise, King 🖤
He was the the goat fir his time... with no match!hus preformances were always different!amazing guitarist and artist...
I was lucky enough to see SRV open for Robert Plant in 88. Amazing show.
Sooo much f---talent. Miss this man😢😢😢
"Life Without You" Live at Capitol Theater is my favorite for many reasons. 1) The seemless guitar change 2) He speaks to the audience 3) the lyrics he wrote & sings for his friend Charley were actually chosen for Stevie's own gravestone 😭 "for all the love you brought our way" 4) He plays guitar with something besides his hands.

Yes, that is his absolute best and my favorite.
And now you know. The best part is that you can listen to his music for the rest of your days.
I clicked the Like button before you started reacting! Is this your first listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan?! "Dripping with the Blues", I like that!
Pure. Raw. Talent.❤❤❤❤
I saw him in a bar with 100 people and I saw him in a stadiam with 50,000 people. I am truly blessed to have experianced Stevie Ray, a Texas legand!

Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand The Weather' (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
I used to go watch Stevie Ray in the early 80's here in Austin... there wasn't anyone else like him, then or now, or ever again. I feel privileged to have witnessed this genius. He was simply the best ever.
Most folks aren't ready for the shock and awe of this recording
You can never go wrong with SRV. He oozes the blues as well as being a phenomenal guitarist. Check out "Couldn't Stand the Weather" or anything he does. Your smile told it all👍🎼🎸🎶
Every time Stevie performed he put his heart and soul into it ! When he was done he looked like he crawled out of a pool.! Stevie was just as real as he was a guitar master !❤ He is so missed !!!!!
I've been waiting for you to get to this one I'm looking forward to it Thanks so much for sharing
A perfect blues voice combined with the best blues Guitar skills in the world.
Probably the most reacted video on the tube. Never gets old. That’s all you need to know.
OH, AND THAT'S POSSIBLE CUZ HE'S THE GOAT!
Stevie had a thousand riffs under his fingers, he had been stealing and listening and messing around for 20 years by this time. There would be a similarity to the ambiance of the song, and some signature licks to breed familiarity, but how they strung together was anyones pleasure.
There are about a dozen or so performances that I can watch and think "It can't get any better than this." This is one of those.
This was in a small 650 seat bar in my hometown Toronto, Ontario. Other artists that played there were The Stones, U2, Blondie and others.
SRV never played a song the same way twice. Each version was a unique, once in a life time experience.
Yep....What a voice with that skill....
If you think watching a video of him playing behind his back is amazing then imagine it live! Saw him back in 84 and man.....Blown Away is an understatement. Still one of the best concerts I have seen to this very day.

SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness
Stevie never played a song the same way twice.

"Well that was an extreme delight." Can't ask for much more than that.
They say SRV didn't plug into an amp, he plugged into his soul = this is the song/performance I would time machine too out of any. His duet with Johnny Copeland on Tin Pan Alley is the dirtiest meanest blues duet ever as well. RIP LEGEND/GOAT
Ad lib every time he played it. It's coming from his soul. Feelings of that moment coming out of the guitar. RIP
I have been so blessed to have been born in 1960 and old enough to see alll these incredible musicians like Stevie Ray and others live! It was a golden age that will never come again!
Omg! You must see a live version of Stevie Ray doing Voodoo Child!!! It will blow your mind!!!!!!!!!!!
People like Stevie can't be in the world too long. They are 🌩
You nailed it man great reaction Really enjoyed it
SRV was from Dallas. A small area just SW of downtown called Oak Cliff. I was a jock at a station on that side of downtown, and one Saturday he showed up unannounced. Stayed for two hours. Never played the same thing twice, just played how he felt. Drips soul RIP SRV
The Legend
Stevie Ray was a bad man.😂
No one plays exactly like Stevie today. BUT, there are numerous blues clubs in Chicago that you can hear really good electric blues on any given day.
According to Tommy Shannon (bass, wrote a book) This is Stevie's best performance on tape. This was 2 years before Tommy and Stevie became sober. ONE HOUR before this show, Stevie was in a cocaine induced coma. Medical personnel were called in to "rouse": him with IV fluids and vitamins. (Hence the extra extra notes and sweat). This show is probably the best you will see a guitarist every play.
Two of my favorites are Look at Little Sister and Mary Had a Little Lamb. The most heartfelt one is Lenny - you gotta listen!!!
"Extreme Delight." What a great comment. Cheers!
Grew up near me. I met him once at the mall. A total humble, badass dude!
SRV THE GOAT
"little wing" is a must!
Enjoy

Stevie Ray NEVER played a song exactly the same way, always the same feeling. Pure Feeling!!
I just LOVE watching people hear him for the first time............... And the word you're looking for is PRIMAL.

SRV BEST that ever walked the Earth.
R.I.P. SRV. When guitars go to sleep at night they dream of being played by SRV. No one comes close to his talent.
This is the definition of singular talent. Several people have exhibited singular talent in my lifetime. Prince, Bowie etc. SRV was up there. I can't figure out how his strings aren't all breaking simultaneously let alone how he keeps up the passion. Dude could play for DAYS. Ridiculous
Stevie was a beast for bending the strings
SRV is a legend in his hometown of Dallas Texas. RIP Stevie.
Fantabulous. Rest In Peace SRV. Thank you for your gift of music
Absolutely LIFE WITHOUT YOU 1985 Capitol theater is his best and my favorite!! RIP❤️🩹 SRV🎸
It is well known that Stevie never played a song the same way twice. Great reaction, as per usual.
Glad you discovered SRV. THIS is music.
My sister met him 2 weeks before he passed in the helicopter crash. He signed her guitar.
Rip Stevie! The goat
MUST WATCH! MUST WATCH! Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Healy "Look At Little Sister" please o please o please 🙏 🙏
I said to myself, self just wait til he hears his voice. Good for Blues? Oh yeah. A master. I think Neil Young said you have to give it all on stage. I think we're good here.
You have to notice Stevie is using all the pickup switch positions as he's playing.
Oh yay! I’ve been waiting for you to finally get to SRV. ❤
He never really played each song the same way he always added things to them so it's like hearing them for the first time all over again.
My all time favorite SRV❤️❤️❤️. I loved your reaction!!! He never played a song the same way. Each performance was different. I would love to see you react to Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater. Towards the end he grins and turns to his crew off stage and mouths I lost my tooth, then grins again and mouths Gone. And of course finishes the song. Can’t wait for the next SRV reaction!!!
I saw SRV 3 times and indeed it was a good time! The 2nd time was the best when he opened for Jeff Beck. One of the best concerts ever.
SRV was the greatest guitar player to ever pick up a guitar, BB King said so in an interview RIP, we lost a true treasure when he passed. I was lucky to be alive when he was at the top, he also died at the top
