Stevie was absolutely great. But one must also mention Tommy Shannon (bass) and Chris Layton (drums): one of the tightest and most in-the-pocket rhythm sections EVER. Their support of him is one key element of his success.
The man's been gone for over 30 years, and he STILL continues to raise gooseflesh on the skin and send chills up the spines of young music fans, the world over. Some things just don't grow old and truly NEVER die. Behold, the IMMORTAL Stevie Ray Vaughan!
...young music fans AND old music lovers, too i-- I'm 75. I get chills every time I hear Texas Flood and Voo doo Chile...hot damn. I have most of his cds which I bought in Istanbul, Turkey (teaching English as a 2nd language to young adults 2000-2005.) I first heard Stevie's Pride and Joy in 1997 in a neighborhood tavern. His other music I had to/got to learn how to listen, move one song at a time...until I'm dancing with a basketball in my 60's with SRV through my headphones-- on cassette tapes. I love him and his music. He was a kind and humble man. There are so many stories about people who met him.....
This was Stevies second appearance on Austin City Limits after about 2 years of being clean and sober. The difference in the man from his first performance is unreal. I think he was better now than before. I often think if all the music we missed out on after his passing. Cherish what he left us.
He came back with the handcuffs off . I was at work digging a ditch when it came on the radio that day he died. I remember I looked at my friend and all I could think to say was at least he died sober . In hindsight I still think that even though it's kind of a strange thought for somebody else . I guess I felt like he had won.
@@BradYaeger I saw an interview with Chris Layton and he said that Stevie would meet someone that said he was an inspiration to them and he would light up and drag them into a corner and talk with them as long as they wanted. I was getting ready for work when the news flashed and had to sit down. It hit me hard.
I’m a 72 guitar player, a SRV fan for 40 years, and I get a kick out of seeing reactions from younger folks discovering his phenomenal playing for the first time. Few play with the skill, passion, and heart that Stevie put into every performance, and it still amazes me watching him after all these years how I never tire of his music. Check out his guitar swap when he breaks a string playing “Look At Little Sister”, I believe it was a clip from Austin City Limits show. Doesn’t miss a lick! Watch all his clips, you won’t be disappointed.
The part where you said he was just shaking his guitar, he was actually using a foot pedal (wah wah pedal) to get that effect. SRV was a bit of trying to out Hendrix Hendrix.
This is my favorite version of this song (including the Hendrix originals). There are tons of amazing live SRV performances, and he never plays the same songs the same way twice. If you want to hear more SRV but also hear something different, consider the three song set he did for MTV Unplugged. The things he does to that acoustic 12 String are downright criminal. So good.
Jimi never played anything the same way twice either, so if you want to compare them you could check out different performances, such as Woodstock and Maui. But whether you want to react to them is a different matter because Jimi reactions tend to get copyrighted, as I expect you know.
Wow, I've never seen that! Thanks! I saw SRV twice and both times he did this "Voodoo Chile" (Real title by the way!) intro and wasn't feeling it so he moved on to other songs. I admit, I was disappointed in the moment, but I instantly got over it once he got into those next songs!
Thanks, creanor.. I really love his versions of "look at little sister" and "mary had a little lamb"... :) I also appreciate Jimi.. he was the "creator".. but IMHO, SRV took it to the next level...
YA STEVIE!!! He motivated me to rip it up on the guitar and that's what I do sometimes when i want to get all my frustrations out. I had many VHS video's of Stevie Ray. 😋
Verdy got the "stank" face going, SRV will always be the greatest ever....still remember where I was August 27th 1990 when we tragically lost him and his gift to all who truly remember him in the short time we had him and number 1 to blow us away!!! R.I.P. GOAT!!!
We believe your Chills...so many of us get them damn near every time we are with Stevie Ray Vaughn while he's playing his music. ! "Stevie was an endless, open channel that music just poured out of. He made people who'd never touched a guitar in their life want to pick one up and start playing, and he made those of us who'd played live onstage with him before want to quit.".............Eric Clapton.
Ah, Stevie Ray. He was channeling the universe/god whatever you want to call it. He always played that way. You just knew that he was different and extremely special every time he played. RIP Stevie, you were taken away from us far too soon.
Drummer Chris Layton and Bass Tommy Shannon have been interviewed a few times about their experiences with Stevie. Beautiful. They loved each other and playing with Stevie 10 yrs was the best 10 yrs of their lives, broke or being paid well.
1:4111:1211:46 If you watch his right hand closely you will see him quickly adjusting those round tone and volume knobs with his pinky finger while playing. Nothing is "out of adjustment". It's what he has to do in order to get the sound he wants at that time. That's one of those things that make his sound so recognizable. You could hand his guitar to another accomplished player, playing the same notes but he wouldn't sound like SRV. This was filmed at Austin City Limits studio. They know how to film a performance without the distracting camera shot changes every 5 seconds. If you view a lot of his performances, you can see a BIG difference in his physical appearance here in '89 versus earlier performances. He had a bad time with coke and booze early on and later got sober.
i like the cam shot your talking about,, it shows his picking hand action as well as his fretboard finger, and you realize how hard his picking hand is working, and how it stays in time with the fretboard fingers, talk about right brain/left brain working together, then throw in his singing voice, and the rest of his superior BADASSERY on top of it all,,,,wow
some one you should check out is Jeff Healey. (Canadian) he does a duo with Stevie Ray on "Look at little Sister". but you should also check out Jeff Healey 'How Blue Can You Get' Live at Notodden Blues Festival. i think you'll love them both
That is Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on the drum kit, a note on the life of SRV, Stevie slowly became an alcoholic and a cocaine user and over the years it worsen til he finally went to a hospital in London for he was throwing up blood and for the last four years of his life he was clean and sober, and for about 15 minutes at the end of his performance he would talk to the audience about this horrible disease he became an ambassador on becoming drug free for the world...RIP Stevie you've earned it and Stevie never stop playing...
The greatest guitar player to ever pick up a guitar. Stevie Ray and Eddie Van Halen, defined what a guitar could, and should sound like. Well done young lady. This is one of the greatest live recordings ever.
Roy buchanan was the man who made the tele sounds first in late 50s early 60s .. go listen to his austin city texas 1976 live session .. he was doing this in 60s ...
Saw that soccer ball in the background. Hope it's a trophy 🏆 or some good memory. Played but was a better coach😉. My teams Won......love the game. Ps Stevie was and will always be a badass! God rest his soul.
If yer lookin' for another Stevie Ray Vaughan recommendation I'm talkin' the excellent Hendrix reinterpretation o' Little Wing from the album The Sky Is Cryin'. Studio instrumental excellence!
This of course is him doing his hero/fellow guitar player proud by the name of Jimi Hendrix.... This was his song off his very first one ' Are You Experienced'??? Need we say more???
If you have not done so yet.... Please do a Reaction video on Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Life without you" It is a little more mellow of a song, But just as awesome!! Stevie Ray really knows how to make people Want to learn how to play guitar. He is a true Showman.
What a great reaction👏🙌 you really get him and you are in for such a treat discovering this amazing artist's work. I love his own compositions the best but one recommendation for now to appreciate his great touch with down and dirty blues is Stevie with Double Trouble of course and Johnny Copeland performing Tin Pan Alley at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. A master class for sure. Thanks for this today! I look forward to more from you✌️💙
Hi Verdy, once again a great reaction to this great guitarist (RIP). Although what makes me most happy is to see Page and Plant on your wall...😎 I had a very similar poster in my room when I was a teenager. It brought back good memories.🤤
Happy you’re experiencing this guitar master. I always enjoy young people finding things for the first time; it make the heart happy! Keep on keeping on!
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Austin City Limits, live 81 or 83, Voodoo Child cover the. Greatest blues guitarist and singer, ever! This is a Hendrix cover. Bowie had him play on his Let's dance , album. Then asked him to join his band. SRV turned him down!!😮😮 Greatest guitarist ever!! Died young, leaving the Montreux Jazz Festival, in a terrible helicopter crash. RIP to SRV. U should watch all his Austin City Limits, concerts! Ironically, first time he went to Montreaux, he was booed mercilessly, they felt he wasn't Jazz enough! When he went back in 95, he was treated as the reigning god of the show! And then he died...if u watch just one more of his vids, it should be from this show, Texas Flood! His look, blues voice, guitar ability, showmanship... God purpose built this man to play the Blues! There's been a lot of great guitarists , but combined with his voice, look, presence, voice, showmanship and ability , there's only him.
Love your reaction and especially seeing the younger generation learn about Stevie and appreciate his immense talent. Definitely stick to the live performances as you said he is mesmerizing to watch. I love his performance of Lenny at El Mocambo, the playing is incredible and he puts so much feel and emotion into the song. Enjoy!
Hi Verde, Stevie was the GOAT, the world lost him on 8/27/1990 RIP🙏 now that you've seen Voodoo Child look at the same concert from Austin City Limits and the song Look At Little Sister and see an Amazing Guitar swap in the middle of the song😎
Stevie said he was living on borrowed time now (after his 1986 near death collapse) and lived each minute in a state of gratitude. He was a precious soul. The angels celebrated when he took his place with them. You should really watch "Life Without You" live at the Capitol Theater, NJ 9/21/1985. He wrote that song for his friend who died suddenly. Stevie took his friend's death and made a beautiful tribute song which he was actually afraid to try to sing onstage for fear he wouldn't be able to do it without breaking down.
Verdy, I swear you have the best "stank face" of any reactors, especially for Stevie Ray. It's very easy to see how much you actually feel the intensity of his playing. Looks like you're sweating almost as much as he is!
I loved your reaction!! First time I saw and heard this I reacted the same way lol Going from awe, to jamming, to WTH just happened there back to jamming with those killer drums and the bass badassery!! Well done ma’am! Thoroughly enjoyed it 😊👍
You really need to watch from this very same concert in Austin Texas, SRV doing his most perfect rendition of his song "Riviera Paradise". It is the most perfect guitar demonstration you will ever ever see, and you get an extra solo thrown in by his keyboards player Steve Wynanns. It will change your life watching this perfect performance.
I would definitely recommend another Jimi Hendrix song he covered, Little Wing. Hendrix's version is amazing and it comes in at about 2 1/2 minutes long. Stevie turns it into his own creation and absolutely makes the guitar soar and sing. I think it shows his versatility better than almost anything else in his catalog!
Soooooo Nice to see someone as young and as interested as yourself in SRV.... I think you can tell we all think as a group he was the most adept, most precise ( yet, everytime he played, different) bluesman/Rock guitarist to ever stride the earth..... For real.... OF ALL TIME! His catalog is the holy grail of guitar.... His live performances utterly LEGENDARY!! As you can tell for yourself!!!
I used to travel far distances to see him perform. I’ve seen this video so many times I can sing along with the solos. It keeps getting better. Such an enjoyable reaction. Gratefully appreciate you.
This is a fantastic performance and homage to Jimi Hendrix, who wrote and made this song and style one of his trademarks. Indeed, much of SRV's technique is homage to Hendrix. There will always be a friendly but often heated debate as to who's greater, Hendrix or SRV. I favor Hendrix as the creative force who took electric blues/jazz/rock to an entirely new space beyond any of what came before, and from whose method SRV took inspiration. For great examples of Hendrix's raw power and creativity check out his live versions of Johnny B. Good and all of his live at Monterey performances. SRV is an immaculate and soulful guitar virtuoso but there will never be another Jimi. Now try reviewing SRV's version of Hendrix's "Little Wing."
Saw SRV three times in the '80's.he was simply incredible in concert.i love when a new generation starts to discover him.theres a ton of great SRV videos out there.cant wait to see your next reaction
He's using a "Wah - Wah" pedal with his feet to get that effect. Sounds great too. Also he is using the "Whammy bar" at the end. P.S. I liked when he bent down and turn up the volume on the pedal. Sounded even better after that. :)~
Nice reaction! So nice to see your enjoyment of SRV. Chris Latham also really showed his class on the drums in this piece. He was relatively quiet on Texas Flood, but here he showed his class and brilliance.
Don't worry about the chills. I still get them and sometimes a tear or two. Whenever I want to feel younger I listen to srv. Even after 30 plus years, it is always like the first time.
SRV...
Arguably, one of the Greatest Guitarists, *_EVER !!!!!_*
RIP, Stevie
Stevie was absolutely great. But one must also mention Tommy Shannon (bass) and Chris Layton (drums): one of the tightest and most in-the-pocket rhythm sections EVER. Their support of him is one key element of his success.
Spot on. They were just awesome together. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Hell yeah, they were both killing it and love the pitch of the drums
Absolutely! They were also in the bands Storyville and Arc Angels after his death that deserves to be checked out.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
exactly .. had to believe hes long gone .. seeing him still feels like yesterday ...

He was really on top of his game in this time period. So fun to watch.

I knew Jimmie Vaughan in the 1980's a little, and met Stevie then too. Im glad there is still so much love for this music.

I agree with your statement -- the guitar is a part of him!!! So true.

One of the greatest performances in guitar history. Matchless skills.
He was the best. No other like him. Thank for the review.
Awesome reaction, appreciate the fact that you were actually listening and picking everything up and understanding what makes him the GOAT!
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Life Without You 🔥🔥🔥

I had the same chills over 40years ago when I heard Jimi Hendrix do this song.
Life Without You (live at Capital Theatre) is like going to church and ending up in Stevie heaven. Stevies heart pours out on the stage. RIP SRV
What a great way to describe that performance Jim✌️💙🎸🎶
Oh, yes 👍! Don’t forget his drum 🥁 and bass player. 😎
I was there one Hot night at Austin City Limits . Hell of a Performance . Miss you Stevie .
Thanks 🎸
Enjoy your selections.
I was lucky enough to see him in Concert 4 times! He was and still is unmatched. Glad to see you enjoying him after all these years!
Stevie’s version of “Little Wing” is epic…you’ll love it..
Performed live at Austin City Limits. Imagine being at that show!
Il più grande chitarrista di sempre...Stevie nel cuore ❤️
Both him n Hendrix were here on earth for a short time, the Impact they made......
Great video verdy,SRV smooth jazz player. The shaking was a wah pedal controlled by his foot .love your facial expressions.
Awesome. My favorite song of Stevie's is Riviera Paradise. It's an instrumental song. It is so chill. It always takes me to my happy place.

Love your reaction, I strongly recommend Tim Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland, just pure gold.
some one you should check out is Jeff Healey. (Canadian)
he does a duo with Stevie Ray on "Look at little Sister".
but you should also check out Jeff Healey
'How Blue Can You Get' Live at Notodden Blues Festival.
i think you'll love them both
Yes Miss Verdy. There was only one Stevie Ray. Only one. And we are all sad that he is gone.
Even better is "Couldn't Stand The Weather", live Capitol theater, 1985...Incredible!
And also, Life Without You. Absolutely fantastic.
I saw Stevie in concert the night before he died. SRV, Jeff Healy and Eric Clapton. Ticket price $20!
Just go watch the whole "Live at the El Macombo" performance! Every single minute is beyond worthy!!
The greatest guitar player to ever pick up a guitar. Stevie Ray and Eddie Van Halen, defined what a guitar could, and should sound like. Well done young lady. This is one of the greatest live recordings ever.
Add Gilmour, Hendrix and Page to that list and you’d have my personal top five.
They were the fastest hands , in the West. God bless Texas, and God rest Stevie Ray Vaughn.
And that drummer! So good.
Great reaction!! TIGHTROPE and LIFE WITHOUT YOU....both great ones!!
I love that you get how fascinating Stevie is. Just spellbinding to watch while hearing the music he's creating. Thanks, Verdy -
If yer lookin' for another Stevie Ray Vaughan recommendation I'm talkin' the excellent Hendrix reinterpretation o' Little Wing from the album The Sky Is Cryin'. Studio instrumental excellence!
This of course is him doing his hero/fellow guitar player proud by the name of Jimi Hendrix.... This was his song off his very first one ' Are You Experienced'??? Need we say more???

How fantastic was SRV unbelievable performer
A MUST SEE/HEAR Classic,, Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand The Weather" (Official Music Video)
Thank you for keeping my musical heros music alive and out there for the youth of today to experience. RIP SRV, YOU ARE STILL THE GOAT 🐐 🎸!
Happy you’re experiencing this guitar master. I always enjoy young people finding things for the first time; it make the heart happy! Keep on keeping on!

Loving your appreciation and the expressions on your face in recognizing the amount of talent in SRV. Great reactions for sure
It's so good Seeing young people getting and keeping this music alive. 😎👋🎶🎵🎶🦘
That bass is awesome. They were all so good together.

Stevie, pure GENIUS, taken way to young, BEST that ever walked the Earth, never be another SRV. The G O A T!
Cher Verdy, Mon Doux Québécois, On ne peut jamais se tromper avec Stevie Ray Vaughan. Des performances incroyables encore une fois!
It's nice to see such a young person loving the best guitarist of all time. Try "The Sky is Crying".
So many Stevie fans. Incredible. I would have never thought. He is not worthy.
I loved your reaction!! First time I saw and heard this I reacted the same way lol Going from awe, to jamming, to WTH just happened there back to jamming with those killer drums and the bass badassery!!
Well done ma’am! Thoroughly enjoyed it 😊👍
SRV was an open channel to another consciousness. Never had to stop and think, it just flowed. His acoustic guitar works are even more impressive.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was a force of nature…..he played with reckless abandonment! Another great reaction👏🏻❤️
Yeah, and it just pours from him like turning on a faucet. He's got the blues on tap.
You really need to watch from this very same concert in Austin Texas, SRV doing his most perfect rendition of his song "Riviera Paradise". It is the most perfect guitar demonstration you will ever ever see, and you get an extra solo thrown in by his keyboards player Steve Wynanns. 100% Little Wing. One of my favorite covers, and favorite SRV track.
The Difference is that, Hendrix came first, Then SRV perfected it.
He gives me chills any time of the day.I love his guitar 🎸 playing, 24 hours a day..& his voice.
I would recommend both "Crossfire" and "Pride and Joy" live Vevo... You get to hear more of his voice and great closeup's on guitar happyness.
My first time seeing this particular version. Thanks.
Saw SRV three times in the '80's.he was simply incredible in concert.i love when a new generation starts to discover him.theres a ton of great SRV videos out there.cant wait to see your next reaction
Saw him in an Austin bar, on a road trip 1984. The last week XTC was legal in Texas. I love you and your reactions.
Love seeing a young lady enjoying music like this. There is hope for the young people out there.
Ahh man ..., he was such a M-A-S-T-E-R ! ... ❤❤❤
This was written by Jimi Hendrix based on a song called alternatively "Catfish Blues" or "Rolling Stone" by Muddy Waters.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was a Master on the Guitar!!!
Great reaction.. I'm addicted to watching people react to SRV. Your reaction was the same as mine. In awe at first sight...
Saw him do this song in 85 Seattle!! Ladies and gentlemen Jimi Hendrix has left the building 😊
Stevie's version of Little Wing is fantastic too. Another Hendricks gem.
I get chills when i watch this performance live too kiddo❤
That's how you jam I knew you would like this you love your guitar 🎸 solos he's a badass good one rock on
My favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan song is "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland
FINALY A TRUE REACTION VIDEO!! We see your smile and the air guitar and head bobbing ❤❤ I love watching these.
