      Make sure to do some extreme research first before stepping up to the challenge. Trust me, I just got two ferrets of my own and they’re more of a handful than I thought they were even with the research I did.

      @Logan Kamlet If you go to the pet store they’ll try and say you should get two, but in all honesty you don’t have to. Two ferrets, like any other pair of animals, can be good for the other so they won’t get lonely. However, if your schedule isn’t a busy one and you have all the time in the world to spend it with your ferret, you can get one.
      At least that’s my opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️ It‘ll also depend on the ferret too, if they bond more with other ferrets. Make sure to research up on this topic a bit more, if you do plan to get one (or two)!

Once per week included to their meal egg, eggs are cheap. This is purely my own way. Handle your ferrets and make sure they get clean fresh water, cleaning the cages.

    • @Grey-wp5xu
      @Grey-wp5xu 3 роки тому

      The best kibbles you can buy are the least processed ones. Kibbles that have less additives such as starches. What you do NOT want to see is any type of vegetable/fruit/starch matter in the kibble. The first ingredient should always be the meat, not things like chicken meal or chicken by products. You should see just simply chicken breast, beef, lamb, etc. I suggest the air dried kibble by the name of ZiwiPeak. It's quite expensive but it is SO good for your ferrets. It's essentially jerky. But if you do buy this brand, be sure to buy the CAT food. This is because cats have very similar dietary requirements to ferrets, which means you'll see way less plant matter. I also recommend to stay away from the chicken flavor, since this is the most "fake" recipe they sell. Please please remember to add water to your kibble!

    Hey guys, I have a question. I have two ferrets I just rescued and right now they are eating the kibble that they were being fed in the shelter and I personally don't think/know if it is the best, it's called "totally ferret" and before that with their previous owners they were being fed marshals (even I know how bad it is). At the shelter the lady said she didn't like Wysong, but from my research it seems the best? I would do a raw diet, but my mum would never let me. So... any suggestions?

    • @Grey-wp5xu
      @Grey-wp5xu 3 роки тому

      If you're young you really need to make sure your parents know exactly how expensive a ferret can be. You need at least $1,000 saved up PER ferret for potential vet bills, since ferrets do come prone to many different diseases. Raw diets aren't as expensive as you think! The kibbles you SHOULD be buying for your ferrets are actually more expensive than feeding a raw diet. Remember that ferrets are obligate carnivores and they can't digest anything other than meat. Everything aside from meat builds up in your ferrets system and can cause very expensive health issues down the line, such as insulinoma. If you absolutely cannot feed raw under any circumstance at the moment, I recommend ALWAYS looking at the ingredients list. You should see little to no plant matter or starches in the ingredients. I own two boys that are raw fed by the way :) It costs me around $60-$80 Dollars a month for their food delivery, with a lot of it being shipping costs. The number one kibble I recommend for your ferrets is ZiwiPeak AIR DRIED CAT FOOD. Remember it HAS to be CAT food, since the dog foods have more plant matter in them and therefor are bad for the ferrets. Remember to always add water to your kibble to keep your ferrets hydrated! I'd stay away from the chicken recipe they sell since it's more "fake" with it's ingredients than the other recipes, but all of the others are fine for ferret consumption. I wish you well in your ferret journey! Do tons of research! I recommend Friendly Neighborhood Ferrets, PazuAndFriends, and Dook Souls as very great places to get good information for ferrets. There's a lot of misinformation online!

I am on my first ferret, he is nearly 2 years old, he likes his food (well he eats it at least) but i have noticed that he will often take some of the dogs food which IS an expensive high quality kibble but in huge bites size for a ferret--it will just grab one and run off with it, like its just robbed a bank or something. Raw diet, especially prey diet, is always the best for ferrets.
    Kibbles, no matter their quality, have been proven to be a major cause of insulinoma (lethal pancreas disease) and shortened lifespan. I'd advise everyone to read Susan Brown's and Bob Church's papers on the subject.
    I wish people who are "pro kibbles" could understand that when they are advised to choose raw diet, this is done for the ferrets' sake and not just for trolling. This is not just a sterile ego debate, this is about ferrets' wellbeing and lifespans...

    • @rayobrien8680
      @rayobrien8680 6 років тому

      Cristalsonic Christal that's not true. If the cat food meets the protein and fat needs its good. Also if it doesn't contain any unwanted ingredients aswell, its still good. The information is false.

    • @MIZZKIE
      @MIZZKIE 4 роки тому

      @@rayobrien8680
      If kibble is an okay option, then why do you NEVER see kibble being fed to zoo animals?
      Ray, you need to do proper research before declaring something false when you know nothing about it. The process of creating kibble destroys a huge portion of the nutrients in the original ingredients (raw food items), forcing the company to add on artificial vitamins and minerals to meet the needs. Also, to make kibble stay dry and hard, fillers NEED to be added because meat on it's own would just crumble. Sadly, all foods used as fillers (grains, peas, potatoes) are foods ferrets are not supposed to eat.
      There are so many more reasons why kibble is DANGEROUS for pets - especially obligate carnivores like ferrets and cats - but you'll have to look that up yourself because there's so much to explain.
      Trust me/us. Once you know how disgusting kibble is, you'll never be able to go back, and be happy that you now know the truth. Ferrets MUST BE FED RAW because they are obligate carnivores, and they haven't been in existence long enough to adapt to thriving on human food like dogs and cats have.

      James well beloved isn't great, I'd look further into raw. If it's just misinformation you're worried about then check the holistic ferret forum, the youtuber Bryn Katherine also has good information on raw diets
      Generally raw is always better than kibble, every ferret I have has come from a kibble diet and the couple weeks as they get healthier, happier and generally more energetic is always fascinating to me, good luck with your ferret :)

      No idea why but always been nervous regarding ordering food online but had to change my mind and quickly.
      l've ordered 3 types of Frettchen4You food, arriving tomorrow hopefully.
      If they like it, I'll seriously have to budget, the food is expensive but shipping cost makes it more difficult, especially with my type of income.
      Looking at the information and ingredients it's the next best to raw "nutritionally" compared to other dry complete food and much better quality than anything else.
      The shop I've been buying James Wellbeloved since my first ferret suddenly stopped selling it, without warning. So I was panicking. They had Burgess instead but it's not great either, they didn't like it and poop was bad, I literally gave them a tiny bit with their usual food.

      But noticed lately James Wellbeloved is smells a lot more of wheat and fish.
      So I thought I'de try a company that only sells ferret food.
      So if they like the new food "they better! Cost quite a bit" as said I'll seriously need to budget.
      It's not misinformation, I'm worried about and reading a lot on BARF and general raw but I can't raw feed my two, all I can say is circumstances won't allow it, it would be too much of a health risk for me and them. But I've read a lot on raw and watched videos etc..
      See how they do with the new food.
      It's not laziness but just too risky with raw, maybe I'll change my mind but see how it goes this week.
      I'm looking into raw feeding my dog, but quite often a lot of issues regarding meat in Ireland which makes me stall.

    So my girlfriend and I recently got an albino ferret, and he has some yellowing going on in his fur around the neck area, we recently got him from a person who rescued him, how do I know that he is health and that the yellow isn't anything bad?

    • @birdy-vd8nv
      @birdy-vd8nv 7 років тому

      Hunter Zobrist a yellow tint is very common for any white ferret, they produce a lot of oil and that oil tends to tent the fur. It doesn't necessarily mean it's unhealthy. I have heard raw diet does help a lot, particularly with white fur. Don't over bathe the ferret, clean cage often, and wash bedding. Also, you may spot clean problem areas with a wash cloth

    I have a few questions. First off i have this daily feeding schedule that i want to use. I will be feeding my ferrets a raw meal once a day in the morning and wysong freeze dried ferret food at night. So the schedule says to feed bone mean 4 days a week, muscle meat 2 days and organ meat 1 day a week. So is this a good schedule? If not how can i improve it and if so then which of those days would i feed heart? A lot of schedules have heart for a specific day but i dont want those schedules because they are for a.m. And p.m but i just need am. Also when i feed whole mice what day wpuld i feed it on and would it be instead of the raw meat or instead of the wysong. Same for egg yolk. What day and instead pf meat or wysong? Any help would be appreciated:)

      Ferrets are Carnivores and in nature they would mainly eat Herbivores ( Prairie dogs) and in that way they do actually end up digesting plant material via their prey. That is natural. So stop freaking out about some non meat products in the Ferret Kibbles. The best ones are balanced diets for Ferrets. Just like the Cat food is for cats.

    • @moshack
      @moshack 7 років тому

      Believe it or not Marshall Farms uses their same diet for all their breeding pairs. Over 80,000 pairs! For the last 60 plus years. This Marshall diet was formulated just for their Ferrets. They have to produce the highest quality biologically as well as for temperament. How can these companies that have no experience breeding Ferrets do a better job than a professional large scale breeder with decades of experience. They can't. And again, Cat food is for cats. Not Ferrets. I have owned and worked with Ferrets for over 30years. I know everyone has good intentions when it comes to our furry friends so its all good. But we have to look at the times. Supplying a good raw natural diet is just not possible for everyone. I wouldn't want to have to go out and hunt every time I wanted to eat meat. Our Modern domesticated Urban Ferret is adjusting to the Diets we give them. Just like we Domesticated the Cat, Dog, Chicken, Rabbit, etc.. The Wild Black Footed Ferret of North America is not domesticated. And for them your raw natural Diet would make a lot more sense to me. So we can agree to disagree and move on. As long as you love Ferrets its all good.

    • @moshack
      @moshack 7 років тому

      Have you actually been to Marshall Farms and seen this for your self ? No you have not. But I have and I know what they are doing. Its not as bad as you have been brain washed into believing by people like you that have never actually seen their set up. No European blood has been mixed into the Marshall gene pool. And with over 100,000 Animals they can control their population just fine. But you are set in your beliefs so thats fine with me. There are no more bad genes in Marshalls Ferret population then there is in any large population of animals including humans. We all get sick at some times, we all can get cancer, etc. Where are you getting your information? Again there is some insider information that you may not know about that totally debunks your claim of bad genes in Marshall Ferrets. But like I said ... I don't hate you and I don't want to fight. So if you don't mind. I will not fuck myself this time. Maybe next time though. I know you mean well, but you are trying too hard.

      I think over 60 years of breeding the top Ferrets in the USA is proof that the diet they use is very good. It was not even available to the public in the very beginning. I have been selling and keeping Ferrets for over 25 years. You are very new to this industry. We have had Ferrets live over 12 years on this diet alone. There is information that you are not aware of that forces me to agree to disagree with you on this one. But we all love Ferrets so its all good. The raw diet is not practical. The average Ferret owner will not be able to adhere to that program correctly. Not all Ferrets are created equal. Fitch Ferrets from England and New Zealand are used to catch rabbits. They might do well on a raw diet in that environment, but our Pet grade domesticated Ferrets are totally able to thrive on the proper dry diet. And In my opinion that is Marshall premium Ferret Food.

    • @Crystal-rv5ys
      @Crystal-rv5ys 6 років тому +2

      Michael
      Marshall is a mass market breeding group which doesn't care about the individual wellbeing and lifespan of ferrets - or any animal they breed.
      Their choice in diet is totally linked to profit and easy use, it has nothing to do with health. Their breeding jills are retired and euthanized as soon as 3 years old, meaning they don't give a sh** about the possible health problems they could develop due to kibble diet (like insulinoma). Don't forget they also breed ferrets, dogs and rodents for animal testing - they don't care at all about animals' quality of life as long as they can make profit from selling them.
      Besides, Marshall Farms didn't invente ferret nutrition. European hunters did, 2 millenia ago, when they began domesticating ferrets for hunting purpose. For more than 2000 years, ferrets were fed raw diet, and were able to live up to 12 years.
      Now that they were introduced in America and bred by giant pet mills, they hardly make it to 4 years old. Please take a moment to think about it.
