Have you tried oatmeal soaks? Gentler than soap, still does mild cleaning, and instead of hurting their skin...hydrates it, and also soothes itchy or damaged skin(recent run in with fleas and have a sore ferret once they're gone? Oatmeal soothes itches from the wounds and other bug bites). :3 That's what I always use when I have to give a bath...which I don't. I used to over-do it though, yup. =( You just take a cup of regular unflavored oatmeal and put it in the bath with them. You can use hose or a sock for less mess, you just want the milk and not the oats themselves. No scrubbing, just soaking, or gentle massaging for five to ten minutes and you have a clean, very comfy ferret! You can also use it whenever they do water play. If you scrub them though, you will hurt their skin and oils regardless, so it goes against the point of just letting them play and soak in it. It's nice for those ferrets who piddle on themselves or like to...get into it(which I have found isn't common, but some ferrets will sleep or roll in the litterbox!).
strangely enough.... my ferret loves to shove his face under water. we would put a bowl of water for him to drink and the first thing he does is scuba dives. its adorable. also your albino is so cute.
My current three boys never even saw a water bowl till I got them at about 9 months old (always had just water bottles). Learning how to drink from a bowl properly took them months....and they still think the correct way to start is to stick their heads in up to their eyeballs and then shake water off their whiskers all over the room....repeatedly. They also think that digging half the water out of the dish onto the floor will somehow make the process better......it doesn't, unless having a small lake around the bowl is an improvement in their minds ;)
I have been watching your videos frequently now and you seem to be one very diligent, loving, caring women. obviously dedicated to your pets. I had ferrets when I was young, (pre teens) I only wish after watching your shows, that I had someone like you to show me the way with this wonderful animal. Thank you and your husband for the gift of knowledge you unselfishly give to the world. keep it going. Geoff.
I bathed my ferrets when I got them because I figured that they probably weren't washed ever (they're babies). Then a week later I took them to the vet to get their shots. Cali got so scared she urinated on herself. I wiped her down with a wet paper towel. I've been waiting until the next month to give her another bath because I don't want her to get dried out, but she does still kind of smell like pee. Thanks for posting this video and giving me lots of tips to make it a better experience!
Lovely demonstration of how to make your carpet shark look like a drowned rat ;) Some of mine have utterly hated being in the tub with no traction for their feet (horrified soapy ferret up your arm, over your shoulder, and down your back...) but found it much less upsetting if I put a (sodden) towel in the tub for them to stand on. Your hint of washing their bedding regularly is excellent advice, and here are some other tricks I've learned over my decades of living with furlets: Feet get dirty faster than the rest of them (think litterbox), but a simple footbath is quick and easy and usually doesn't upset them at all. Most ferrets love to puddle around in quarter inch (5 mm) deep water. Surface dust and grime can be largely removed by wiping them down with a damp washcloth or small towel, or they might find they like to mess around in the shower while it's sprinkling them with warm water (mine find it fascinating, especially if I'm in there too). Then just towel them off afterwards. No shampoo. A plain water wipedown can be done often without damaging fur or skin and since you are not soaking them to the skin, they don't find it near as upsetting. This can remove a surprising amount of odor, since traces of urine (and poo) on their fur and feet is often a major component of an animals offensive aroma. These "not-quite-a-bath" events can make the times you actually need to do a full, shampooed bath fairly rare. Finally, the all important feature of any bath *must* be the post-trauma toweling off playtime!! All of mine, once the bulk of the water is out of their fur, go into a major hoppy dancing frenzy, leaping at and wrestling with the towel, and chasing each other and me around the room (with an occasional break to strop off the last of the damp on my bedsheets....). Thank you for all the wonderful work you've put into FW , the quality advice, and the good it has done for many furlets and their humans.
They will also cheerfully use your clothes while you are wearing them, carpet and rugs, your bed.........but a towel is best :) You can also assist by rubbing them down with the towel to get hard to dry places like their armpits and tail.
Hi Stephanie! I love ferrets and I’m getting one soon!! You have taught me so much and I’m still watching you!!!! You have helped SOOO much!!!! Thank you!!!
Hello, a quick question... if you have one ferret would they be happy, or is it a must that you always have two for their company? I am contemplating being owned by a ferret and because I am a beginner would only a this stage have one. would that be a problem or make the single ferret suffer? I am a stay at home person so he / she would rarely be left alone.
one is fine, i have one and we've got a very strong bond but theres more responsibility for sure, you cant leave them for too long, they must come out everyday and you need to be prepared to play with them for all the time they want to :)
I find to ferrets is best. Even if ou stay at home they always need a play mate I sorta rough house with. We to rid of my last to ferrets because they were brother and sister but the sister got out of the cage no matter what. When we got another ferret the lady said he was young but there is a ferret sickness in older ferrets that causes them to die. He had this and we were very close. He was supposed to die when I wasn't there but my step mom said he was gonna die with me right next to him and I was. Snoopy the brother was very lonely and went depressed. I felt bad so we got rid of them. They now live with an elderly woman they are great
One is fine whoever you should play with it more frequently than you would have to if you owned two keep that in mind if you are home a lot though you should be fine but the ferret would still be happier with a friend
Kya Cole lol ikr! And some ferret owners are always like ‘I don’t know why more people don’t have ferrets’ obviously it’s because their so expensive and prone to a lot of sicknesses and diseases which can cost a lot of money ! 🤣 I want a ferret but before I get one I have to save a lot of money 😭
i got 2 ferrets today from the pet store, was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, always liked them, never seriously thought of getting them, i made sure i researched them plentiful before i bought them, these videos are helpful, i bathed my ferret the same way as you even before i saw this vid so i must be doing something right
My ferrets prefer it when I put the towel on the floor and let them dry themselves off. They like when the towel is kinds rumpled up so they can burrow into it so they can dry the sides and tops of themselves. If your ferret doesn't like when you dry them off try this method! It's also super cute to watch them borrow around and shake the water off 🤗
Black heads on a ferret can be called rat tail its a kind of skin conditions and it can be seasonal mostly usually in the winter as the ferret losses its summer coat
It's always hilarious once I finish bathing Ferrets. They become chaotic speed demons with a burst of energy to play around dooking in and out of every corner in the house. Really have to rush them into a playroom for them.
We have the same color ferret I have a white one named vanilla who's super hyper and a black and white one named biscuit who's super mellow I love them both thanks btw this helped a lot
This helped so much! I just bathed our new ferret Jax for the first time and thanks to this video I didn't mess it up. She was very well behaved during it too, but I imagine next time she won't since she'll know what to expect. XD
It's been more than 15 years since I bathed a ferret even once per year, because they don't get very dirty that often. And when I stopped we started winning ferret shows.
I've been a ferret rescuer for many years. Honesty I do not bathe them anymore. I just wash their bedding every so often. The ferret will let you know that the bedding needs cleaning. Wow, I should have watched this video to the end. You said what I am saying.
im 47 now, we had a Ferret when i was about 8-16 years old. she was so funny and sweet. we only bathed her maybe every 3 or 4 or 5 months, but every time we ever gave her a bath, EVERY time, she made a poop. no idea if thats common or if it was just her.
I have use the bathroom sink - I also found rinsing was easy since I'd just rinse him under the tap. My ferret is terrified of water too, but this way you can scruff and cradle them like she shows in the video under the tap water.
From the 3 ferrets i've had i've only had to properly wash one of them once when a younger one was introduced to the house and they set rank, because she got a bunch of shit in her fur. Same thing when the younger one has been going at it with big shell-less snails because then she paws the snail around in the grass to get rid of the mucus before she bites it so she always ends up having clumps of dirt and mucus stuck on her front paws and some around her face, but putting very shallow water in one side of the bathtub and giving her a towel and she cleans it off herself. Also never had them smelling bad other than bad breath when it's time to book a dental cleaning which is maybe every 3 years or so. Maybe be diffrent if they're not castrated or chipped though.

I used to give baths to my ferrets and they really hated it. I changed 2 years ago by using the shower head without filling the bath other than just a little for the feet to keep warm and they got much more comfortable with it. And yes they prefer when the water is warm :)
i just got a grey ferret with black mask and tail, her name is Scarlet. she is 10 weeks old, she eats "Iams"(small kittens dry food) and half a chicken wing every evening. wanted to ask you whats the name of that black gel paste you use as a treat? by the way, love your clips and subscribed on Facebook!!!
I wash my Scar while I shower. she hates bathing, so i just put lots of towels on the floor, close the door and window, make the shower a bit warmer than usual, first tend to her. after she is all cleaned up, just brush her with my hand to get most of the water off and put her on the towels. after i'm done we both go dry together... all this time she stays calm and cute
I love my Ferret at bath time. She doesn't move at all while I shampoo and rinse her. And she Always goes nuts after we are done as well. Such a good pet. And I see people are interested in nail clipping. I personally turn her over on her back, slightly hold her with my legs and she lays still for me till we're done. But don't try it right after a bath...it will be impossible and you might take a few nasty scratches in the process of your ferret trying to get away. That's my ten cents. Nice Vid
Hey! What shampoo are you currently using? I'm using the Marshall one but I would like to try something else as I'm not too keen on Marshall products. You said baby shampoo is good. Which baby shampoo do you recommend? Your videos are wonderful! Thank you for posting them!
I have been trying to find out the name of the tune that is playing in the back of this video for ages~ I heard it in another person's video too. Does anyone know the name of the little happy beat playing?
Do you have any recommendation people can use if they don't have a bathtub ? I don't have one, and my ferret is absolutely terrified of water, even though it is the right temperature!
You never bathe a ferret unless its rolled in something gross, or its super hot out and you are trying to get their body temperature down. One of the reasons people wash their ferret, is because they smell. But washing them puts their scent glands into overdrive and the smell gets worse. And yes this happens even if they are descented.
my last girl HATED water, schnicky however cant get enough of it. i think she is part otter. i have resorted to a ferret pool in the middle of the floor and she gets in it and plays half a dozen times a day. oh and i use goats milk soap for bathing her
john hornby That’s so bad for them! That’s like bathing them half a dozen times a day! When the minimum is once a month!! You shouldn’t be doing that...
No no no! Plain, clean water is *NOT* bad for a ferret: their ancestors, wild European Polecats, swim in ponds and streams, get rained on, weasel through damp grass and so on all the time. Their fur and skin oils are evolved to handle water just fine. It's the *shampoo* that you must not overdo.
hi i am planning on bringing a ferret home i have a dog and a at should i put the cage on a shelf or dresser and plus can u send me some links for cheap ferret cages please.
I wanted to see if you can help me my ferret keeps scratching his self he doesn't have fleas He's scratching so hard he has two wounds in he's fur can you help me out and tell me what is the case and what I should do ?
I don't think so, nor do I believe so... If a Ferret is swimming in a plain water of a swimming pool, then it's just water alone... Water alone should not have any effect on a Ferrets sensitive skin... But if the the pool is something like most UA-cam Vid swim pools I have seen people put their ferrets in for a swim... Then there is a problem, cause those types of swim pools contain high level of Chlorine which can strip a Ferret's Skin of it's natural oils, and drying out the skin faster then bathing the ferret with baby shampoo or Ferret Shampoo too often, thus causing the ferret to become more smelly cause of over-production of the oil glands in the body, to make up for it lost... What people don't realize is that the type of water they swim in while in their pools, contain chlorine in it, and although it may not do much damage to our skin, it will do very much damage to a Ferret Skin, therefore a Ferret should NOT even be permitted to swim in a such a water of that type of Swim Pool... People are only doing much harm to their ferrets sensitive skin this way, and its the Ferret that pays the price for it later, other then money out of their pockets for Vet bills cause their Ferret companion got sick, hence they are the ones whom did this to their Ferret companion to begin with... Ironic isn't it... People whom own a Ferret companion, hurt them either intentionally or carelessly & Then complain about Vet Bill when their Ferret Companion get sick... LOL cruel joke on them... signing out for the night: Viola... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!....
What do you mean by "natural shampoo/soap"? Do you mean soapless "soap"? All are industrialized, not natural. There are some plant roots and nuts that have saponins, "truly" natural soaps. Can you check the ingredients of the products you use?
[FIRE] Script they should be out of their cages for 2-4 hours a day around the house or in a ferret proofed room. Walks are nice when it’s a good temperature outside but always use a suitable harness. I typically take my boy out once a week for adventures when the temperature is mild, but I don’t when it’s cold or hot out unless it’s for short amounts of time in the yard :)
Yes. Just as long as you don't keep the hair dryer in one spot for too long or too hot. This way you won't burn them. My little guy hates baths but loves to dry off because of the hair dryer. He'll dance around and lick the air. I stil let him roll in the towel though Good luck.
Rambo hates baths because he is a rescue and has never been bathed before so he doesn't know what water is! Can i still get him to like baths and water? If so how!??
If you haven't taken that Ferret to a Vet for a check up, yet... You may seriously want too... That is a very bad sign for a ferret if I have ever heard one... There is definitely something wrong with that one... And you may have just saved him from further damage, dough signing a serious Ferret Vet commitment as to help the poor little guy recover from it... Hope it goes well for the little, and that he does recover from it... People whom can't handle a Ferret, should Not have one to began with... This example right here is a plain out right display of cruelty to a Ferret by a female or Male owner of one... Take care and hope the Ferret is doing much better while with you, then he was with previous owner... Sincerely, Viola
I got a pair of ferret last dec and they smell like hell. One day the female escape the cage . So we been searching for her still but we bought a new female ferret for him to play. She doesn't smell at all. So when they get along, the male that i have started to stop smell so musky and less smells. But i notice that, the pair that i have before their fur are pretty long but my new baby girl are not. Is it because of they are mixed (champagne + sable) or pure sable just have shorter fur?
please don't. you might burn him. just lay down a lot of towels on the floor and he'll dry himself off. if you think he's not dry enough yet, scruff him and gently brush a towel on his fur to remove the excess water. make sure the room is not cold until he's fully dried off.
Ditch the wetwipes (most cause environmental harm and clog sewers), the chemicals in the wipes are not a good thing for ferrets. Much better is to give the little guy a foot bath: very shallow water in the sink or tub with a drop of two of shampoo, scrub off any poo with your fingers, rinse feet and your hands, play with ferret....all done, clean and healthy!!
hey i got a new ferret and she has a little, little bit of lose poop and when she poops in the water i have to drain it all out and refill it and it a waste of money i wanna no how i can prevent this.
I had kittens that me my mom and her boyfriend (hes gone now, no more of him he was mean) we had to bottle feed them cause the mom abandoned them so we have kitten shampoo but I don't know what chemichals to look for so I don't hurt my ferret!
Ich habe meine mit dem Handtuch vorgetrocknet, und dann ne Decke auf den Fußboden gelegt. Und diese wurde ausgiebig zum trocknen genutzt. War immer lustig anzusehen .
Yes! Plain, clean water is just fine. It's the soap/shampoo that strips the oils, not the water. Just make sure they can dry off before they start to get chilled. In hot weather, a nice dip in a puddle is excellent: ferrets can handle cold weather *much* better than too hot.
My boys always poop after they've been bathed, it doesn't seem to matter if they went right before the bath or not. Is this normal, or does the bath stress them more than I thought?
I had male ferrets and they stunk badly! I had them both neutered and descented ( I was present for that) and it helped some but not alot. I had a female ferret that didn't smell at all. Just my boys. they always are going to have some musky smell. Thats the nature of the beast so to speak. I found with mine keeping their bedding clean as well as bathing them helped too but still they have a musky smell.. I so love them though and miss mine dearly! I wish I could get another one. love your ferret vids!
Destiney Bouldin every day. maybe I just happened to have the smelliest ferrerts on earth lol..oh well! smelly as they were I sure loved the little rascals. They do smell though!
ferrets have scent glands in the cheek area that are not removed. They only remove the ones in the anal area. If you clean up regularly, they do not smell bad however they will always have a slight musk to them which is totally normal.
Taunt Master yes..and they stink! lol..its just part of being a ferret. the females dont smell like the males but yep..they stink! I once had the police over and they were looking around and finally asked me just what kind of animal do you have hehe
Have you tried oatmeal soaks? she is 10 weeks old, she eats "Iams"(small kittens dry food) and half a chicken wing every evening. wanted to ask you whats the name of that black gel paste you use as a treat?
by the way, love your clips and subscribed on Facebook!!!
You can possibly stop it by making sure they went to the bathroom before bathing it or mabye its too cold and it scares it.
your videos are so helpful! thank you for all your uploads
I have a creek behind my house and my ferrets go down there to swim and play once or twice a week. Is that safe for there skin?
Moet het water warm zijn?🤔
You said that there is a harmful chemical in dog shampoos. What chemical is that?
Would it be ok if I used Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo? The yellow one?
"its horrible - isnt it... mommies being horrible.."

In the summer , can they swim in the water?
@@dream5592 Please do not over do it :)....Put some little round plastic balls in a kiddie pool that they can burrow in, They will enjoy it A lot..
No no no! Plain, clean water is *NOT* bad for a ferret: their ancestors, wild European Polecats, swim in ponds and streams, get rained on, weasel through damp grass and so on all the time. Their fur and skin oils are evolved to handle water just fine. It's the *shampoo* that you must not overdo.
where do you get your ferrets
Actually the official Marshall website said to bathe them every several month, don't believe me go to the official website and check, hope this helps.
I love when it dryes it's self so smart
I love you so much and I will get a ferret soon so your tips are very helpful to me thanks
hi i am planning on bringing a ferret home i have a dog and a at should i put the cage on a shelf or dresser and plus can u send me some links for cheap ferret cages please.
I'm giving my ferrets a bath right now......it's a struggle but they love the water the male does he falls asleep sometimes a girl is that a problem?
I wanted to see if you can help me my ferret keeps scratching his self he doesn't have fleas He's scratching so hard he has two wounds in he's fur can you help me out and tell me what is the case and what I should do ?
Dose a ferret swimming in a pool make them smell like giving them to many bathes
the xman a ferret swimming in the pool is like giving them a bath. You shouldn’t put your ferret in the pool.
Which shampoo is better for a ferret, cat/kitten or baby?
How warm does the water have to be
kevin kim about 30 degrees celcius
How many times should you walk your ferret
[FIRE] Script they should be out of their cages for 2-4 hours a day around the house or in a ferret proofed room. Walks are nice when it’s a good temperature outside but always use a suitable harness. I typically take my boy out once a week for adventures when the temperature is mild, but I don’t when it’s cold or hot out unless it’s for short amounts of time in the yard :)
Also always check them bugs or dirt afterwards, and wipe off anything with a towel or some water after !
I want a ferret and I was wondering that to
I have a question is there anything wrong with using chinchilla powder to much or should you n8ot use it all?
Supa Pooky There is no reason to use chinchilla sand, you shouldn't use it at all. :)
If you have a chinchilla, then the dust is great for them, but for a ferret, no.
my ferret poops every time I give him a bath so I have to drain the water then refill so he can have a bath
All of your vids are so good and helpful thank u so much 😄😃😀😊☺️😜😝
ferrets are epic little creatures
Yes. Just as long as you don't keep the hair dryer in one spot for too long or too hot. This way you won't burn them. My little guy hates baths but loves to dry off because of the hair dryer. He'll dance around and lick the air. I stil let him roll in the towel though Good luck.
only if the air is not hot...what's warm to you is burning to them, so be REALLY carefull
can you still put them in just water! and not us any shampoo??
Rambo hates baths because he is a rescue and has never been bathed before so he doesn't know what water is! Can i still get him to like baths and water? If so how!??
I just adopted a ferret who was being washed every three days ! He sheds SO SO MUCH and his fur is falling out and it feels fake ☹️
How is he?
your dumb
Shea O`Brien your dumb for thinking it was that persons fault
your bathing it to much so your not taking care of it propeller
Love your videos
I got a pair of ferret last dec and they smell like hell. One day the female escape the cage . So we been searching for her still but we bought a new female ferret for him to play. She doesn't smell at all. So when they get along, the male that i have started to stop smell so musky and less smells. But i notice that, the pair that i have before their fur are pretty long but my new baby girl are not. Is it because of they are mixed (champagne + sable) or pure sable just have shorter fur?
do they have their scent glands removed? if not that might be a factor for the smell
Can u use a small basket
your videos are inspiring😀
please don't. you might burn him. just lay down a lot of towels on the floor and he'll dry himself off. if you think he's not dry enough yet, scruff him and gently brush a towel on his fur to remove the excess water. make sure the room is not cold until he's fully dried off.
so can you have ferits un morano vally
My baby ferret keeps stepping in his poop and I don't think that wet wipes help anymore. I'm not sure if hes gonna be ok with it and if its necessary
Can you tell me what blackheads look like on a ferret???
hey i got a new ferret and she has a little, little bit of lose poop and when she poops in the water i have to drain it all out and refill it and it a waste of money i wanna no how i can prevent this.
What if you dont have a tub? And how many times do you have to bath it?
You can shower ferrets, they don't need bathing more than once or twice a year. No more than once a month if they get dirty
Eviolus - Thanks (:
Thanks you helped out a lot, but he got so scared that he pooped in the bath tub, but it was his first time and he still little, thanks a lot again.
i've got a question:
my ferret is called Bd and he has never tasted neutreun gel so do i just feed it him or do i have to teach him
I had kittens that me my mom and her boyfriend (hes gone now, no more of him he was mean) we had to bottle feed them cause the mom abandoned them so we have kitten shampoo but I don't know what chemichals to look for so I don't hurt my ferret!
Can you use baby shampoo?
Chris Hemsworth yes
As long as it does not have essential oils
it's not usually very good
how do i get poo out there fur with out giveing tem a bath ?x
Is there any part of their body that can't go in water?
you shouldnt really get water on their face or in their ears, they dont like it
My ferrets looking at me like: NOO DONT YOU DARE I KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!
Ich habe meine mit dem Handtuch vorgetrocknet, und dann ne Decke auf den Fußboden gelegt. Und diese wurde ausgiebig zum trocknen genutzt. War immer lustig anzusehen .
Took my baby a bath today she was sorta calm no scratches just trying to get out of the sink
hi, i was wondering, cuz i'm getting kits, but can kits b bathed?
Yes i have 2 kitts but only monthly
You are amazing
can you let your ferrets go in just warm water without soap as often as they like?
its mostley the water that dryes out there skin
That's natural, warm water can relax the muscles and tends to have that effect on most of the animals I have encountered.
Today’s specialty is a ferret burrito....
I have had female and male also but my male don't smell at all , how often was the cage cleaned?
Lol so funny the little puffpuff so cute , if we gave a bath to are snow balls Thea will a tack us lol
