How cute are your babies...!! As I am embarking on my journey to be a ferret owner, your videos have been very helpful and enlightening. I'm trying to gather all the knowledge and information I can about their habitat, maintenance, interaction and overall health. So look forward to hearing from me alot as I have lots of questions and concerns. Of course I won't overwhelm you all at once. However pertaining to this video did you wean completely from kibble or do you still incorporate it into the raw food diet?

Isn't heart the same as 'muscle meat'? As it's a muscle organ.

    • @IamtheKGB
      @IamtheKGB 8 років тому +8

yes but heart is necessary for the taurine, because its constantly being used, and thats what makes taurine in muscles.

I enjoy her video, and her explanation of feeding raw. However, Ferrets need all of those meats in a weeks worth of food. This is why the specialized diet is so important. You cannot just feed a ferret all muscle meat one week, and all organs the next. That schedule allows for all the proper nutrients within the week of feeding. If you do more research, plenty of seasoned ferret owners agree. It’s just unhealthy for the ferrets to give them only necks every day until the package is finished. They need bones, organs, heart, and muscle meat all within a weeks span, for a specific amount of meals for each protein type.
Furthermore, a lot of ferret owners agree that feeding live is a bad idea, however a lot dont. It’s all up to you. I don’t condone it, however it’s not animal cruelty. If you eat meat that is by a large industrial brand such as Tyson or Nature’s Farm, than you’re eating a heavily abused animal, cornered and raised for livestock. We can’t be hypocrites when it comes to the nutrition of our animals.

    Gizzard - noun
a muscular, thick-walled part of a bird's stomach for grinding food, typically with grit.
a muscular stomach of some fish, insects, molluscs, and other invertebrates.

I appreciate your concern :) However I have done lots of research on this before getting on the detox. I'll be honest with you ok? I had lumps on my cervix for a few years and a doctor told me that it could eventually lead to cervical cancer. Nothing previously got rid of the lumps but just from being on this juice fast for 20 days has shown a considerable reduction, nearly gone. Results speak for themselves :) Many more stories like this and better out there. Diet is the key to health :)

Denett DelTedesco can u help me how can i transition my fur babies into a raw diet. I’m searching all over the place about the raw diet but it is a little confusing for me , also I’m afraid that many food isn’t available in my are and it just seems so hard what to give them every day . What did you started with first when transitioning to raw food and what was the food you’re making for your ferrets. Let’s say Monday chicken and hearts , Tuesday something else etc .. it’s just so confusing for me so far they’re on kibble and I make my own chicken , turkey and beef soupies and they love it . I just know that I need to switch them on the raw food cause is best for their health. Thx

It's funny you mention that, the English expressions about giving dogs bones comes from well... doing exactly that. The risk of bone obstruction is absolutely minimal as raw bone breaks off cleanly, but a certain element of risk does come into play when you let them dry out or become brittle from cooking.
If your ferrets happen to fight over food and literally inhale their bone-meals, that's where you need to be worried. Otherwise, it's completely safe.

thank you! I plan on starting my 2 guys on a raw diet.. this helps ! :) i have a pair of pet rats and instead of parting them (male\female. still not quite reached sexual maturity) breed for feed and freeze pinkies..they will be healthier as my babies (rats) are fed an enormous variety of fresh food and meat daily. pro side of that! now will my ferrets like them? time will tell, however, pepper my female ferret decided to take a taste for herself one day and gotten a hold of my rats tail. oops!!! (don't worry, rat is ok) but there's no doubt in my mind. she'll fancy a rat now and then lol and of course chicken and mince, egg etc will be offered as well. fatty mcgee loves raw egg! again ty for the info. fingers crossed for healthier feedings! cheers!

I usually chuck my boys some frozen chicks (obviously defrosted before hand) a few times a week as well as the odd bit of chicken/liver or what ever i can get from the butcher for free that there going to chuck out. but as soon as i get a bigger freezer i will probably put them on a 100% raw food diet. I do think it would be easier to just feed them a selection of full foods like the Chicks/Rats/Mice etc that splitting it up.

As I asked on the facebook, how do you transition a ferret that has been eating kibble over to raw food after they have been on the kibble diet for over a year since weening? I've seen how picky they can be and anything that they are not given during that important part of their early life they won't associate it as food.

I'm not hating! I'm getting a ferret soon aswell and I'm 15, which means yes I can get a part time job but my dad will also have to help me out a little.. As you see in the video, the meats are cheap if going to the right place, giving him or her a very high quality cat food thay has ONLY meats (check label) is food mixed in with a raw meat diet or atleast some mice or somthing, if that cat food is not fully just meat your slowly killing your ferret and although he may be happy and healthy, raw meat is very important to live a full life

Ferret-World I asked my vet about the whole raw diet thing and she said that feeding them raw meat can give them parasites so you should cook the meat in some way. She also said it is extremely difficult to give ferrets all the nutrients they need with an all raw diet and that you should feed a high quality kibble and supplement with meat instead of feeding just the meat. What is your take on this? Has your vet told you something different?

You should change vets , ferrets don't get parasites from human grade meat. Ferrets don't eat cooked meat either.

you've described this all quite beautifully, but I do still have one question. I know now what to be giving them which day, but how MUCH of each raw food to I give them? I have 2 ferrets.. so how much of each the edible bone, muscle meat, and organ meats should I be giving each ferret, or for 2 ferrets?

So can you just feed them on an "only mouse" diet? Or is it to keep a variety so they don't get sick of eating the same thing?

I'm just startin to get my ferrets onto a raw diet but if all goes well do I just keep toppin the food up as I was unsure how much to giv em? I have 3 adult males! so I basically understood from this clip to feed em twice a day preferably after a playtime and just gage wat they eat or can eat until u get it right so theyre not starving or food is goin off

Hi. I'm planning on getting a couple ferrets and have been watching videos and doing some research on ferret care beforehand. I would love to include some raw meat in their diet, however iI have one concern. I know with dogs it's quite risky to feed them anything with bones in it due to the potential of the bones obstructing or even puncturing the digestive tract. I was just wondering if ferrets have the same risk associated with the consumption of bones.

My ferrets were being so loud and playing that i couldnt even hear the video! Im going to start feeding them raw meat but would it be ok if i fed them a small amount of really good ferret food as well? Also one of my fuzzies looks identical to Sammy.
