Here is the link to part 2. We tried to limit the commentary because the detectives explain a lot of what they were doing. ua-cam.com/video/C2fOWUq8Ut0/v-deo.html
The catch-22 is that anyone smart enough to shut up and ask for a lawyer is smart enough to not commit this kind of crime. When I was little I was terrified of being homeless, or going to prison. Turns out, generally, you need to make a series of terrible decisions, or have some profoundly bad luck.
The irony is, a guilty person believes they look less guilty being interviewed without a lawer, whereas a non-guilty person couldn't care less about how they look because they're innocent.
I watch these because I always invoke all my rights immediately and stfu. But man, did I ever want someone to be smart, just say "bet" and lawyer up. Granted, that far into talking, the detective pulled the card that worked so I can't say he's wrong, just not something that works on everybody 🤷♂️
I actually burst out laughing when they were praying and the detective was like "and although society may never forgive Brett for what he did..." What an absolute savage.
I know! I was trying to put myself in her shoes and see if I would continue to talk with him behaving this way. No because I would have asked for a lawyer before my butt hit the seat lol
56:16 OMG, that improvised prayer 😂😂😂 I'm dying!!! I'm 100% sure this was his first ever prayer, but he winged it because it was what the situation called for 😂
“Please, Lord, let Brett give evidential proof of the premeditation & nature of his murder. Also, let Jesus hear him laying it all out on the table Amen “ Masterful
@DaChel81 Right??? I'm also picturing that crap she bought as the most random, useless stuff - "As seen on TV" or "Sky Mall" type of stuff - some ridiculous new "innovative" workout machine that'll get you the abs of your dreams in just 4 weeks, a stainless steel tray food dehydrator, an outdoor inflatable projector screen, etc.
IKR? Used a debit card that _directly_ linked her to the hideous crime to _book into a bloody hotel?_ How someone that stupid hadn't already died in some awful accident whilst tying her shoes or brushing her teeth is a total mystery.
My heart broke for his mother at the end talking to him. “Who do I talk to?” “Why would you do that?” “Your whole life?” “Why?” .. the phone call is just heart breaking. Just breaking.
There is one video where a grandmother was raising her 3 grandchildren and one was a 16 year old female. The girl killed a 10 year old and buried her. Vicious crime. Grandmother cried out when she confessed to stabbing and choking the girl and ran from the room. It broke me. KH
I was waiting for the detective to go “WHY STIEEVEN?! YAORR HAYURR IS THEYURR STIEEVEN!! YA DIDN’ GET IT ALL OFF STIEEVEN!!” but instead I got an impromptu sermon 😂
You don't have the SKEEL son to f*ck with us down here-!!! You don't have that SKEEL-!!! I promise you that. You don't have that SKEEL to f*ck with us down here-!!! 😂
I love how theatrical this guy is. You can tell he's really passionate about his work. Pretty sure he's the same guy that did the interrogation of Steven McDaniel where he was like "STEEEEVEN YOU HURT THAT GIRL STEVEN THE HAIR WAS THAYUR."
I think leaving the phone on ring serves two purposes. One is obvious and it’s in case important information of any kind comes through, it that line of work timing is crucial. But two, imo, is it also works to throw a suspect off during interrogation. It’s a random distraction that can help trip up someone while being interrogated.

Thank goodness criminals think they can talk their way out. If they just had sense to ask for a lawyer and buttoned up, half would go free. Shhh, don't tell them.😂

Maybe not in this situation but not saying anything and asking for a lawyer is always best case whether u commited the crime, are somehow implicated, or didnt commit the crime.
Okay, so some ppl are saying how they felt bad for Brett, and in a sense, I feel bad that his life is done with, BUT I DO NOT HAVE ANY SYMPATHY FOR HIM. I looked up the case for more details: he did not just kill Gail, he sexually assaulted her too. I really believe he is into crying because his life is ruined. Gail suffered at the hands of this young man and I cannot fathom what was going through her mind when it was happening to her. Sorry not sorry, I have no remorse for Brett or any of them.
Brett definitely deserved the death penalty for what he did. He definitely deserved life with no parole. What he did was unforgivable. I don’t think his co-defendants deserved life though. I strongly believe they were shocked when they heard he killed her. Obviously, the law allows them to get life but it’s a waste of 3 lives to have the state support 3 people for not committing or intending to commit murder. It’s going to cost the public millions of dollars to house and care for them for the next 50+ years. Give them 20 years each for robbery.
@Jaybird your research skills are apparently just as shit as your deductive reasoning. Scroll comments. Many of us have referenced it and there’s multiple links about it. Find something actually worth defending.
@Jaybird Did you look up the right case? Gail Spencer, I looked it up and found plenty. "Spencer's body was discovered the next day after neighbors called the police after noticing their dog, who Spencer was supposed to let inside, was found outside. A medical examination of Spencer's body found that she had been smothered, strangled and sexually assaulted". Perhaps you shouldn't accuse others of lying so quickly.
Spot on! It seems like they don't watch " inumerous shows about crime and Police Investigation " everyday at TV...hence when asked something about accusing yourself-stop talking! Doesn't matter if you're innocent! But almost everyone does like "Icarus" and get burnt...

That phone call with the mom is actually heartbreaking. You can hear him realize that he let everybody down and wasted his life. Can't imagine being a parent and getting that call.
Why tho? Why is it sad to hear this little boy pretend he DIDNT MEAN TO when he did so much to the victim that showed a desire to torture and kill her. I feel bad for his family. He can rot.

This interrogator is brilliant. The way he approaches this woman is spot-on. I guarantee that he approaches all of the people he interviews differently. He got this right on the money. He know how to talk to her. He knew how to handle her. I just want to follow this guy around for a day
That moment when his dad says, "What's up, bud?" and he starts sobbing is so sad. It reminds me of when I got in my first accident which was my fault. It was minor, but I felt so bad. My dad was working out of town so my mom and I called him together later that day. He wasn't mad or anything, just concerned, but hearing that "dad tone" in his voice made me cry. There's that feeling where you wish dad could just make things better like he used to but you know you screwed up too big this time. You realize it's finally all on you.
I wish Brett was capable of the type of empathy that you seem to be before 58 year old Gail was screaming in pain while he r*ped her, sodomized her, and then suffocated her to death with a plastic bag.
That detective would have performed a whole baptism right there in that room if he thought it would get a confession 😂 Always get an attorney, even if you’re innocent
Get a lawyer because even if they KNOW you are guilty of murder they will lie cheat and steel steel if necessary to make sure you will be released to kill again.

Brett let them know he knew the playbook and they literally had a psychological reaction to it (defensiveness) that confirmed that he had called them correctly. He knew the room was recorded. He knew there was no reason to ask him a question if they already knew the answer. He knew they are not on his side or looking out for him. He knew they are capable of lying. He decided to move in his best interest after he saw the names of his accomplices and he knew that they would work in their own best interest having not established a usable alibi for all members involved. Prayers for Gail and her family, and Brett and his family, I hope they can all find peace and forgiveness before they leave this world
This detective is a star in his own right. He was the same one who interrogated that Steven guy who killed his neighbor and got interviewed on tv hours after it happened and then during his interrogation he answered very simply, and didn’t move an inch.
the moments when the parents realise all their hardwork raising their kids goes up in flames. all those sacrifices for nothing. no more special occasions with the whole family, no grandkids, just small visits to see how much they've changed behind cold glass
Yeah the parental calls really made this dark. We got to witness the son and parents coming to this realization together in real time. It definitely seemed like the son had been taught to know he should ask for a lawyer, he seemed so cocky about how detectives work. But he still let them get to him. He was too confident. I want justice, but I mean... its just such a failure of reasoning.
No way those parents put in the effort to raise their kid. Even when they find out what he did there is no real shock. The happiest day of their lives was probably the day their dumbass kid moved out of the trailer.

This is not meant to be disrespectful, just a thought-I’m starting to feel ancient! Gayle was only 58 years old, young in this day and age! I am 64. They have called Gayle “old lady” numerous times. What must they think of those over 60! RIP Gayle🙏
Hey you’re only as young as you feel. I don’t think they meant it that way but for the purpose of the interrogation and maybe to play some sort of sympathy card they referred to her as an “old lady”. My dada is 64 as well, and he is probably more active than he was 10 years ago, always out and about doing things. You’re definitely not ancient!
As a 25yo I think I would call some 58yo people old depending on how they've aged mostly. I would call people in their 60-70s old and anyone past that would be really old lol. I’ve been flat broke, not but a dime to my name, wondering who’s couch I’m gonna crash on. Criminal minded, doing drugs, probably the same age. But I could never fathom wanting to hurt, let alone murder someone for a come up. It blows my mind. That poor woman, and the families of both the victims and this kid must be devastated. I’ve always wondered what it is that separates those of us who can harm or kill others from those of us with empathy. How people can be in such similar situations, yet be so different.
I have been in the same situation as you . Absolutely not a dime to my name nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat but I damn sure could never hurt anyone for any of that. I would have rather begged for money on the corner than to ever hurt someone but I know people that didn't care what they had to do. I could never understand those people either.
Not everyone that takes a life is a criminal. Some of us do have empathy. Taking a life in the name of selfishness and greed... I can't possibly understand. Especially when the person is suffocated to death. The worst one I've been a part of was a guy burned to death. The medic told me that he didn't burn to death, the fire burns the oxygen in their lungs and they actually suffocate. When the body is starving of oxygen, it panics and releases everything. Piss, shit, whatever....he says that he believes that's the most painful way to go. Knowing I was responsible for that death is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. Watching this young man (in the video) struggle with what he's done, has validated every opinion I have of others who have done the same regardless of circumstance. If we think remorsefully of that moment, we will fall apart. So instead, we act as if it's not painful. As if it doesn't hurt. Sometimes even proud of it. The minute that switch was flipped in him, he fell apart. The wounds that never heal. The constant wishing that the roles were reversed and you had been the one who died. It's even worse when you're in their country as a foreigner. Every kid you pass you think "Is that kid his?" Is that his mother? Father? Who would he be if I didn't take his life? All the questions that run through your head begin as soon as the trigger is pulled. They don't go away until your own casket is closed. 22 a day go to that casket hoping to stop the questions....the memories....the screams.....I'm not saying what I did and what he did are the same. I thought I was doing it to save people. He thought he was doing it for money. But the actions are the same. The ending is the same. That's why I watch these videos. To remember that I AM human. Every now and then I see one and the person is completely evil. I like those too. It reminds me that I'm not that. Keeping these feelings in check is extremely difficult. You asked " How people can be in such similar situations, yet be so different." We don't lack empathy. We lack a time machine. The guy in the video mentioned it almost as soon as they sit down. Because that's what he wants. He wants to undo it. I now that feeling. And it sucks.

After a really serious incident I told them that if any mother's child (adult or not) died as a result of of their behavior I would never visit them in prison. Ever. Because they had choices. They were shocked. We were so close. I love them so much. But I was fighting for their lives and their souls. I don't know if they remember this conversation, if it had an impact or is it was other stuff- the other mommas fighting for their sons. But somehow they all started rerouting their behaviours. They've all grown up, my sons and their friends, developed into good men and good fathers. One more thing to be grateful for.
I got the call from a lawyer I'd never heard of, telling me my son was arrested interstate over drugs. It wasn't a murder charge of course, but I recognise the parent's reactions. I was initially completely shocked, in disbelief and frozen. That turned to heightened anxiety and distress. I had the "why" question too. I'd been on my way to an appointment and had to cancel. I was overwhelmed, emotional and physically sick. It's heartbreaking to hear these parents receive such news.
I love how the phone on the table started ringing at the most crucial moment when the suspect is about to give their confession and the detective just blows up on the phone and throws the receiver across the room lol. I'm glad that didn't stop the suspect from confessing!
I'm in no way excusing what that "man" did, but my heart seriously dropped when after his dad told him to not say anything, he told him he already confessed. As a father all you want to do is protect your child, even when you know your child did something wrong, and in that moment all hope was lost to him.
It's not only that, prosecutors will put an innocent man in jail and fight to keep them there. A lawyer can help you get a fair trial, that's what matters.

Two things I've learnt watching these:
1. ALWAYS ask for a lawyer
2. Detectives never turn their phone on silent
I think leaving the phone on ring serves two purposes. One is obvious and it’s in case important information of any kind comes through, it that line of work timing is crucial. But two, imo, is it also works to throw a suspect off during interrogation. It’s a random distraction that can help trip up someone while being interrogated.

You’re definitely not ancient!
the suspects are really young so to a 18 year old someone close to 60 is old (no offense)
As a 25yo I think I would call some 58yo people old depending on how they've aged mostly. I would call people in their 60-70s old and anyone past that would be really old lol. Idk why older people worry about people calling them old, even at 25 I'm just worried about how much more pain I'll be in if I live into my 60 or 70s.🥲

Once we let them censor us enough they will stop content like this. @@porflepopnecker4376 it's not a pleasant situation. the circumstances around what happened there are awful. it's not a philosophical riddle. the cop is practically accusing you. you don't respond: "maybe i was, maybe i wasn't" - unless you think you can trick them.
take an example out of my own life: I once stole some booze bottles from a bar and put them outside the rear exit, then I went back in to steal more, and I was caught. the next morning - in the interrogation room - the lady detective says as a response to me saying "idk how those bottles wound up outside" - she says: what if we take finger prints off those bottles? will they not be yours? that's check mate.
this guy is just too stupid to realize that he's already busted. when I committed my crime i knew i didn't wear gloves. it was a petty crime, so no big deal. but when the cops tell you how they can prove your guilt, and you double down on the lie... that's just asking for maximum penalty. so either you know that they don't have your prints or fibers on the crime scene, because you took all the precautions, or you admit your guilt.
in a murder case - where you're looking at life in prison or death penalty... ask yourself, would you gamble?
I paid my ~7000 NOK fine back in 2019 or so and when I was 21-22 and left the story behind me. haven't tried to steal anything in stupid-drunk condition or when sober since. this case though,... there's is no leaving something like that behind. people who do shit like that and get caught, and still lie ... it shows total lack of morality.

They're idiots and stupid. Their lives are ruined until they die in prison.
