- Exploding grenades lifting him off the ground, gunshot to the abdomen, the consequences of dangerous search and destroy missions, US Army Veteran Pat Bowe earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star along the way, surviving to share what it was like for him in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. He still carries the shrapnel from his wounds more than 50 years later. He was with the 173rd Airborne Recon unit when he took part in Operation Junction City-the only combat jump in Vietnam since the Korean War. This is the story of his Vietnam experience.
