Quote of the month: "They weren't fearless, but they were brave." Amen. Fear is an instinctive response to danger. Bravery is what you do next.

Great quote Dave. Thank you for sharing. So very true. I find it amazing that most of these combat Veterans I've talk to say there's no fear in combat. It is only after the combat that the fear sets in.

Glad to hear that mail addressed to soldiers at the front got there. After my cousin was KIA in '66, I wrote to those heroes. I found a high school ring at the beach, and my dad tracked down the owner, who's family sent it to their son. He was in the Cav, sent me $5, and a nice letter. He was in combat, looking forward to getting home. Always wondered if he made it.

This interview was outstanding, Larry. So much time has passed that some of these guys are so old they’re having health issues, memory issues, etc…. This man is incredibly well-spoken. That story about that medic was heartbreaking (Gary Ralph Schwellenback: Distinguished Service Cross).

Hey Larry. Interesting to hear you talk about Fr. Monsignor Bradley of Long Branch. I recall many happy times going to mass at St. Michaels Church in Long Branch during my summer vacations. He got you in and out of church in about 30 minutes so we liked that. Lol Seemed he was super patriotic. So much so that instead of hymns at the end of the service he had us sing 'God bless America'. I would be interested to hear how you know him. Is there an interview that you did? In any case I really enjoy your interviews. Thanks and God Bless.

Greg nice hearing from you. Of all the interviews I've done in the past 21 years Monsignor's is at the top of the list. I was the first person he told his Iwo Jima story to in 2005 before he passed away. We befriended each other and the rest is history. I have two interviews with him on this channel what you may have already watched. I also have a film which Catholic Television and EWTN air called, "Father Bradley Remembered - A Journey of Faith." He is one of my heroes of the faith. Feel free to reach out to me and we can share more about Monsignor. I also have his last Ash Wednesday mass on video which I taped in 2005.

Hi Larry. Thanks for another one of our veterans interviews. Can you imagine what kind of stamina it takes to be a cimbat veteran in Vietnam,or any war. Carrying all your survival gear weapons and ammo through the jungle? Ev2n in my younger years,ud be ha4d oressed to do what these men did,and i had a very physical job. I was a tree trimmer, climbing trimmibg and removing trees. As strong as I was,I don't know if i could do what these guys did. God bless you all. Thank you Mr. Marsh for my freedom.

Great interview. Thank you for that.
As a vet myself. I cant help but think of what freedom is as well.
Have we not all been granted free will and freedom at birth by our creator? We are the beneficiaries of this place. Only does man draw the line of what freedom means and we have lost the true meaning.

@VoicesofHistory first thing came to mind was, I wonder how I'm kin to this guy. I know Mike said he trained at Fort Bragg N.C. and I live about 25 miles below Fort Bragg called Moore County. There are a lot of Marsh in this County, and I'm kin to most. My dads folks came from Surrey County up around the mountains. My uncle, Larry Marsh, served in Vietnam around 1969 or 1970 - 70 or 1971, I can't remember.
Mike had a great story, and I really enjoyed it. He seems like a great guy in general. I hope that if we are kin I get to know him.
      Thanks for your videos
