@Kafka Crimson the databook disagrees with you. Bokuto has the greatest total points when combining all attributes but the reason he isn’t ranked #1 is because his performance is based on his temperament. That’s why he is aiming to be a “normal” ace. A guy who can give you consistency every game.

@@TwerpXNation if Bokuto's performance is so inconsistent then he's not better than Ushiwaka. If he was as consistent as Ushiwaka I'd agree he's better, but so far that's not the case.
I love how Tendou kind of redefines what trauma usually means in anime. Generally it goes one of two ways: either being bullied and excluded leads to kids becoming victims and isolated from others, someone to be protected and generally not very confident (Armin from AoT is a perfect example), or it's a justification for hating the world and used to prop up a villain (Adachi from Persona 4 is a good example of this trope).
Tendou doesn't back down into a shell, but instead turns the table on his bullies by embracing what they say makes him weird and unlikeable. He's absolutely not lacking in confidence, but he's actually pretty well adjusted as far as being a competitive player goes, only a villain through aesthetics at best.
That's because he IS the 'Guess Monster'. Oh, so I look like a monster to you? The way I act is weird and hard to understand? Fine, I'll lean into it. Get afraid when I block your spikes into dust, when I read your every mood. Get indecisive, question your own decision making. I'll be there being myself, enjoying your hesitation.
It always brings to mind, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down", because that actually applies to both Satori AND Ushijima: they both suffered prejudice at a younger age for being different to the norm, and for both of them those differences ended up being their greatest strengths.
Whilst Ushijima owned his southpaw nature and used it to become unironically one of the best Aces we see in the show, Tendou uses his own strange way of thinking and attitude towards volleyball and hones a skill which most coaches would argue is a complete waste of time for any aspiring volleyball player.
For those of who you aren't aware of this aspect of Volleyball theory, 'guess blocking' as an individual blocker is simply inferior to a consistent 'read blocking' strategy when applied to a whole team: no pro team on the planet is going to prioritize creating players like Tendou when they could in half the time and MUCH more consistently improve their team's read blocking, which overall has a much higher chance of success.
Tendou isn't playing volleyball to be 'the ideal volleyball player' though, he is EXCLUSIVELY playing it to feel good, and what feels good to him is kill blocks. He's INCREDIBLY GOOD at getting them, almost supernaturally so, but he has no interest in almost ANYTHING ELSE. Washijo is honestly underrated simply because he allowed Tendou to run wild rather than force him to gel with the team, because he realized that regardless of whether it's smart or not... it WORKS, because Tendou MAKES IT WORK.
I personally was bullied a lot during school, and that gave me a lot of complex's with regards to 'power'. I constantly avoided any positions of authority because I was afraid I'd abuse it the way my bullies had done to me, as despite what fiction would have you think, trauma doesn't automatically make you a hero. It just makes you hurt.
Now, how you USE that trauma and grow from it is another matter that entirely depends on you. I eventually realized that I never would abuse that power because I as much as anyone know how awful that feels, and now I'm happily living whilst managing a team of others who I'd always lay it all on the table to look after... BECAUSE of the trauma I went through, not despite it. Sometimes weaponising the pain you've been through can be a very empowering thing, when its pointed in a positive direction, a lesson I learned from Tendou.

Ushiwaka is National Olympic caliber player, he's not some YMCA kids that Karasuno has faced so far. It's like comparing a high school player vs NBA player
I always hate in the reaction when people don't recognize the greatness of Shiratorizawa and Ushiwaka, I mean, didn't they heard that they have won for the last 3 years?
Ushiwaka is just THAT good. When you have a superstar talent, you can lean on them to win the game for you. And that's in any sport too. It's great that everyone has their own different story behind way they play, and it's shown to be great. A great player is always gonna be the go to player in a tough game.
And Nikki being super hype is great. I hope that this is the beginning of more anime reactions with her
What's impressive is a lot of the qualities they discussed with Ushiwaka in the episode, especially the flashback with a councilor, implies that Ushiwaka may be on the spectrum. One of the primary qualities of people on the spectrum is hyperfocus. If Volleyball became his hyperfocus, no wonder he's a goddamn legend at the game.

damn you can't complain like "what are you doing" or " why couldn't you get that" when these guys can't make every point, volleyball is an extremely technical sport and this is really high level play... it's annoying as someone who just started playing the sport since i know these guys are on a level i will probably never reach myself
If you had prime Lebron on your team wouldn't you pass to him in a clutch situation so he can go do his thing? You ALWAYS go to your best player in those situations, especially when they're so vastly above everyone else on the court, that's just how sports work

Like it's ok to support them but how could you call an episode "nothing" Just cause there was less karasuno moment in it. Seems like Micky is right handed now because his parents did this to him, and honestly, some natural lefties are righties now because of this.
If you don't know why, I'll tell you. But I'll need to do a little story on myself too.
When I was a baby, and my grandma, a devout Christian, saw me eating my food with my left hand,
she was desperately trying to get my mom to "fix" it.
She said: "She's eating with her left hand!! Stop her!! That's the hand of the devil, make her a righty!!"
The reason my grandma thought this is because the word "left" stems from the Anglo-Saxon word "lyft", meaning "sinister" or "weak".
"Right" meant exactly what it sounds like: "Correct" or "right".
The Bible even says that the left hand is considered "demonic".
(Even though God literally appointed a left handed man, Ehud, to free the Israelites from Moabite domination.
It is thought God appointed him since lefties have an advantage in battle.)
Anyways, despite this story in the bible about Ehud, proving that God stands WITH lefties and not AGAINST them,
many people back in the 18th-19th century would start forcing their left handed kids, both in school and out of it, to write with their right hand.
How, you ask? By either:
A) tying down their left wrist by rope, so hard that the wrist would bleed and bruise, therefore forcing them to write with their right hand, or
B) Just smacking the kid's left hand every time they wrote with it.
My mom just replied with "Well, it's nice that's she's a lefty. The only one in our entire bloodline. I don't see the issue with it. She's just like everyone else. Plus, she wasn't eating for a long time, so I don't care if she started eating food with her feet---I'm just glad she's eating again.".....
So my mom was like Ushijima's dad in this case, and I was Ushijima. Thanks to my mom, I didn't have to worry about having a rope tying my left hand down to the point where my left wrist would bleed, and therefore forcing me to write with my right hand.
I know that's something that's never happened since the 19th century, but believe it or not, some southpaw kids are still being forced to become righties to this day...
