Kita is such a top-tier character, it takes less than half an episode for the audience to be totally on board with him and what he's about
Actually, Kita's grandmother is alive. They don't show her in the anime, but you can see her in the manga cheering for him
While Kita surely does look like shiny Kageyama, Furudate actually wrote him to work as a Daichi foil. They're both captain of their respective team, and they try to use their collected personality to keep in check their overall chaotic teammates. They're also a couple of very skilled defensive specialists. And Suraj, you're actually on the right track with your "he does need the memories" comment! If possible, try to remember Kita's conversation with Aran during their walk, it will come back into play when the story actually does explain the meaning of Inarizaki's motto. Lastly, I'm always so moved when I see how Kita's grandma's comment on "someone is always watching" connected with his volleyball experience. Even tho he was not a main player in the team, he kept putting in the work. Someone noticed his great effort, and finally gave him his jersey. Kita is a really good boy. :')
While Kita and Daichi hold the same position in their respective teams, the ways they lead are actually very different, in my opinion, at least. Daichi is open and brave, he sometimes gets nervous as any normal person would but he braces himself and marches forward. Kita, on the other hand, looks like somebody who has ascended. He possesses such wisdom at such an early age. It's like he has already seen the way things are and what truly matters in the world, knowledge people often seek sometimes for the eternity of their lives. This is why there is so much maturity and calm confidence about him. Daichi is the 'dad' of his team. He is an authority for troublemakers (Tanaka and Nishinoya) and an emotional rock for those who are nervous during the match (Asahi, Suga). His resolve inspires respect. Kita is more of a 'mentor' kind of captain. The way he carries himself, with unwavering confidence regardless of whether he plays or not, and wisdom, which no doubt his teammates will seek even after graduation, guides Inarizaki. Daichi is closer to his teammates, he feels and experiences with them, he is on the same level as them, while Kita's maturity puts some distance between him and his team. They do not always know what he thinks and feels. At the same time, because of that, they don't just respect him, they admire him. And it is beautiful how throughout the show we see different types of captains lead different types of teams. Even those who fulfill the same role of pillars of stability and in-check keepers are in their core very different people.
When I think of the motto "We don't need the memories", I interpret it as something similar to Suraj. It means to not dwell on the past and focus on the future. It basically means to not have your mind focus on the regrets of the previous games but to focus on the one you have now!
Yeah, me too
You're correct here. I think in a later episode Atsumu even comments on them finishing 2nd at a national tournament, and how it doesn't really matter. It has no impact on the current game. It's a great motto. They don't feel entitled to anything because they're #2
@@MulberryFC yeah in my opinion I thought the motto was pretty self explanatory but apparently not
@@elisewestley1007 I think it's the one motto in the anime (so far) that's potentially open to interpretation. I know that I personally didn't think of it in this way until I saw the clip with Atsumu at the net stating he wasn't bothered (or couldn't even rememeber) whether they finished 2nd or 3rd.
All in all though such a cool motto. Who the fuck cares if we finished last, or we won, we come to this game with 100%.
I'm actually watching the next reaction now, and the coach says: "if we keep holding onto yesterday, what are we going to do about tomorrow?" SO GOOD
Read this right away.., of course some misunderstand something that obvious
I have been in awe of Kita's character since his introduction in manga in 2017. It's extremely admirable and inspiring the way he takes his grandmother's quote, "someone is always watching shin chan" and makes it a foundation over which to implement a routine that brought him success in life.
His whole backstory, especially his relationship with his grandma is so heart warming. I loved that his grandmother was cheering for him in the audience for this match in manga.
Hello, this is Dustin the editor! I just want to talk about Kita for a bit. He's one of my favorite characters in the whole show (and I don't really like Inarizaki lmao).
I think Kita is coded to be neurodivergent, possibly somewhere on the autism spectrum. The way that he is direct in his communication and his emphasis on order and routine, but always caring of others are pretty clear signs of neurodivergence. I love how his character is respected amongst his teammates and is given the space to be himself. That he is a great player I think shows that neurodivergent people are just as capable as anyone else at their skills, and that he is chosen as captain shows the care and regard that he and his teammates have for each other.
I have absolutely no idea if he was "meant" to be seen this way. It's just something I've always seen in his characterization, and it's personally my favorite representation of neurodivergence that I've seen on TV.

That's 1 way to look at it. My way was he is just very Japanese. He is like the embodiment of their culture's social behaviour.
the mangaka probably just based kita from someone he knows without knowing
I'm going to add Ushijima "Reads the ads in Jump" Wakatoshi into this category. I love these two neurodivergent boys so much. I identify with Kita a bit more, he doesn't usually express much emotion but then when he gats that jersey he's absolutely overwhelmed. He's just like me fr fr.
ur so right! i think there’s a bunch of haikyuu characters who are supposed to be read as autistic and i think kita (and kageyama!) are chief among them!
@@mikkosimonen I was gonna say this. They both have the exact same way of being direct, in the moment, and not understand common social cues. That's why it was something great to see, they just put in the work
Fun fact: Voice actor for Asahi also does Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan. Suraj's reaction to 9:46 put a smile on my face
I always tie the motto back to something Kageyama said to Hinata in episode one. He asked him if he was at the tournament "just for the memories", implying that he's just goofing around and not actually putting in effort and trying to win. So "we don't need the memories" would be a declination of intent. Inarizaki is not here to play around or just do their best, they're here to win.
Kita!!❤❤❤❤❤ never done such a fast u-turn with a character. Like "oh god who's this guy"..."aww he seems nice"..."...OMG I LOVE HIM"
Kita's role is very important not only for his team but for the Haikyuu!! story. This is because it makes it way more realistic by bringing up the fact that even though they were made up they are not just characters and like players in the real world and the way they play at any given point can change drastically by their mentality... sort of like Bokuto... except he's on the extreme side and professionals work to minimize such accidents
Inarizaki have all the makings of being the main characters in their own show. Can't even lie and say i didn't start liking them more than Karasuno, especially after that Shiratorizawa match they had.
inarizaki vs shiratorizawa? whrere?
@@irwingbrasil No i meant the Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa match
9:58 Lol asahi is Reiner's VA so it's appropriate when you said "Your heart and soul to the cause"😂
cant believe you guys are almost caught up on this show already
Rintaro's last comment about Kageyama being a scarier blocker than Tsukki makes my blood boil because I am such a Tsukki simp it hurts lol But we'll soon get to see why Tsukki is an amazing and thoughtful middle :) Also I'm in love with Kita
Someone's always watching and the coach was watching him, that scene gave me chills
Kita is the best captain in Haikyuu! Every teams needs a leader also a role model like Kita, even in real life too.
Omg I forget about the Tsukki shield and the Hinata with the blasters 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't think this is much of a spoiler, so I'll mention this. Miya Atsumu mentions later in the season in a flashback or something "cheers or jeers. Give us one or the other. We don't want a participation prize."
the pace from now on is sooooo gooooood
Kita is so cute, but I always imagine someone like him would scare me in real life 🥲 his persona has no holes, I feel like Rintarou 🤣
I HAVE BEEN WAITING WEEKS FOR THIIIIIISSSSSS. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
