I have a lot of sample blocks. I use same color palette for my sample blocks so that they'll come together in a quilt some day.

This isn't probably the ruler you had in mind, but it is an invention of mine. I use a wooden yard stick & stapled a measuring tape on the end. I can not get on my knees on the floor to measure anymore so ...when I'm measuring to add on borders, I put the quilt top on floor then use the wooden stick to weight it then add the tape measure measurement to get my total inches.

I don’t have a lot of orphan blocks either, but here’s what I have done with them. Put some into a machine pad and used the project to practice free motion quilting. I’ve used some to make a padded sleeve for the foldable light (nice for taking to class). I’ve used to make chicken pin cushions- which actually turned out pretty cute. We sold a bunch at our last guild quilt show. I’m pretty thrifty so nothing goes to waste in my world. 😄. Be safe and well!

I bought frames and framed several of my favorite orphan blocks and hung them on my wall. I also use them on the backs of my quilts to separate the backing. So I don't have a lot of orphans🤣

My favorite ruler right now is the Folded Corner Clipper by Creative Grids... No more drawing lines! The corners come out perfect every time... I'm using it for the stay at home blocks and a couple other projects... and I use it to cut all my binding strips at once... Saves a ton of time... Thanks Pat.. Love you back!

The challenge sounds like fun. I will schedule it in this week as I know its going to take me some time to locate most of my orphan blocks. Alot of them will be machine embroidery blocks I am guessing, as i use to do a lot of testing for some embroidery people and so have accumulated a lot of very nice blocks that I've always wanted to make something out of. Will have to start putting all these into kits. : )

I usually add an orphan block to the back of a quilt or will "find" enough other blocks or fabric to enlarge it for a table topper or a runner. My favorite rulers now are from MSQC---a 5 x 15 and a 2.5 x 8 since I'm using layer cakes and charm paks more.

I liked the Bonnie Lane blue you used previously but you didn't like it so it had to be replaced. I think the striped fabric suits the personality of your quilt with it's fun fabrics, therefore your quilt becomes an expression of your personality and that is important - you have a quilt that is uniquely yours. Always go with your gut. Thank you for your continued inspiration.

Stayed in today and finish up face mask for my kids in Colo. who need some, they are running out of face mask at the hospital that they work at. We are to have snow by 5a.m. on Tues. what can I say it is Ks. as my husbands would say. I have a lot of orphans, I start something and it does not look like what I thought it would be, I chuck it. My SIL has used some of them for her labels, but I like the mug rug concept. Some might look good as face mask too. I like the stripes a lot glad you re-did it and used the darker blue for the squares in between. I would not know what I would of done if I did not have a stash now, but will start to but half yard instead of fat quarters so I will have a little more. My favorite ruler is the cornor ruler to make binding with, makes matching up with and sew the angle to make them. Stay safe and sew on
