April showers of challenges could be a good name.
I know this is old….I’m always a day late and a dollar short. I really enjoyed this video on label making. You showed me how to think outside the box. Thank you❣️
Awesome April Activities
I love labeling my quilts. I also photograph the front and back of every quilt I make, including a close up of the label. This is a nice way to remember all the quilts that I make and gift away along with who the recipient was.
I like your 1st choice for sashing
Awesome Adventures with Pat
Yay fireside chat, thanks Pat
Hi Pat, I really enjoyed your chat on Quilt Labels. Normally, I don't unless they are charity quilts for my guilds. Now I have some great ideas for ones I just made for my family! Thanks so much. Stay safe. Hugs
Looks cool! Very nice piece :)
Like the medium blue. Keep going. It will bring it all together.
Spring Stitching Spectacular
Very nice material :D
I sprayed the label fabric with Best Press and it was much easier to write on. Love the border at the top! Thanks
Good morning Pat , thank you for all the label info. I have not labeled in the past, but I certainly will in the future. My granddaughter would love that kitty fabric ! Love the med. blue with your sew along block's !
Thanks for the tips. I like the blue you have.
You're right, a tag is a love note to the person you're gifting it to. I never give a quilt without tagging it....
I like the darker blue smashing...But not the two gold blocks next to each other.
Hello Pat, definitely the medium blue.
You should say awesome April activities.
Like you I was first an artist so it just seemed natural to sign my work. I use to design and make clear rubber stamps for scrapbooking. I have several journal stamps from that time and I've used them more times than not. My first quilt for my son I called an adventure quilt and the journal stamp that was called a ticket for adventure was perfect for the label.
Lol I am also asymmetrical too it drives my family crazy. Because they are symmetrical
I love this quilt label...& I also love that quilt behind you...I think it has red narrow strip going thru the blocks....Thanks
I’ve made the corner triangle labels but luv your idea of adding that colorful strip across the top where it is bias. I use packers tape instead of freezer paper to stabilize the material. But I like your idea of making the label while still in the creative process of the quilt making - mine have always been the final step but sometimes I’m too rushed trying to get it packed and mailed.
Thanks for your great ideas, Pat.
It was nice to see examples of labels
Hi Pat....I label every quilt...sometimes I "bad" though and use "Gammie" instead of my real name when it's a quilt for one of the grandchildren. I do put most of the information you suggest, though. More times than not, if it's not a bed quilt, is to use a triangle label. Often I use the triangle corners as a pocket to hang the quilt with a dowel. As to your stay-at-home-quilt I think the medium blue is the right choice, especially with those navy cornerstones. The light blue is a nice shade for something else, but it lacks the pizzazz for those blocks!
I like the dark blue now that I see the whole row put together Pat.
Thank you SO much for doing a Fireside Chat about labels. I absolutely love your triangle label. Being fairly new to quilting, I am grateful for this lesson on labels.
I like the medium blue as well.
Thanks for the info on labels...I am now a convert! I love the blue you used....it works!
Thanks, great ideas, as always
I like the medium bonnie lane fabric, with those blocks. I enjoyed the information on the quilt label , I will do the triangle one next. I always put one on.
Thanks for the encouragement to add labels. I have never added labels or taken photos of each quilt. Bad behavior... going to change my ways😊
💙 the blue you have already started bbn using 💙
Awesome April Adventures
Like your label ideas.
I will start making them from now on. A great idea. Labels thanks Liz x
Hi Pat.' April Quilty Antics' sounds fun. Love your chats. 😘
thank you for all the great ideas for putting on a label. I wasn't much into putting a label on my quilts. I figure the family know where it came from since I am the only person who sews. But when you said about writting a book and not putting a title on it. That makes good sence. Enjoying listening to you and miss hearing you on the Podcast American Patchwork. I like your voice better. One of the other ladies is goofy and I can only listen for a short time. Thanks again and stay well and healthy. I thank God for my sewing skill during this time.
I like the medium blue.
I’ve been meaning to do labels. Now I’m inspired to do it! Thanks
Hey! Cool reel :D
Love your medium blue smashing. That was my pick from the beginning!
Hi Pat, I love the darker blue for the sashing..just beautiful. I have always labeled my quilts. When I inherited my grandmothers quilts, I added labels. I add the pattern name, designer, where I live and who quilted it. And of course the date! When I am writing on the fabric, I have a sandpaper board under the fabric and that helps me to keep my writing neater.
I've made hearts and sewn them in the corner but I love the triangle idea with the binding edge!!!!!
I like the medium blue best.
I got a brother se1900 for Christmas, so I'm going to try and embroider my labels. Thank you for the info...would like to do the triangle one...Will have to think about a catchy name for April calendar.
You are so right! Our family is blessed with quilts that are over two hundred years old, and once the memory of who made it is forgotten then the Family ties or Friends are lost. Many Many Thanks
I really love the medium blue sashing on your first row. I think the lighter one makes it look washed out.
The first star block you showed from Charming Baby would make a fabulous label from the quilt scraps.
I'm going to use that idea. Thank you
Thank you for explaining the label options! I don’t go on Facebook anymore but if I ever go back there it would be for your site! ❤
Great video. I plan on putting one on the one I'm making for myself to. It will go to my daughter after my time. There are a few quilts that I need to make and each will have a message. Thank you Pat. 💗😊💗
I love the medium blue. Thank you for the label lesson, I haven’t been using them but will start. Thank you Pat!
I love your medium blue with the dark cornerstones. I think when you get more rows you’ll love it too ☺️. I have my Charming Baby Quilts book and I’m looking forward to the block tomorrow. I’m trying to keep up with you - I don’t know how you do it all lol! Thanks so much.
Thanks for the great tips on labels. If you are having a hard time deciding between the light blue and medium blue sashing you may want to sew a row with the light blue to make sure you will like it better.
I love labels. . fun to read them!!
I'd buy a coffee table full of nothing but labels to read!
I have my Baby quilt book, and fabric selection. .Getting excited!
Very informational! I've never done labels but will start doing it! Thank you, Pat!
Thanks for the information on labels. I hadn’t really explored it before.
Thanks for the great talk about quilt labels! Take care Pat!
Thank you for the label info. I agree. Labels help maintain family history!! I think you can use both blues!!!
Great label info. I was hoping you showed us some of your actual labels for inspiration! I use my embroidery machine to make my labels and I love putting a label on all of my quilts.
I've been making the triangle label from your tutorial. I love the idea of bordering a small block for a label. It would be a great way to use triangles cut off from projects. Thank you for the great idea!
So glad I saw this, what great information.
Thank You!
Dear Pat: Thanks so much for all the tips on labels! I'm binding all those quilt projects so the info will come in handy. Will work on sewing 4 blocks tomorrow. I'm sewing all my 30 blocks first so I can lay out and then decide on my sashing and corner stones. It's gotta look fantastic!!!! Looking forward to the Charming Baby Quilts sew along on Wednesday! Thanks again!
I haven't used labels before but I'll consider it. My Stay at Home blocks are coming along. I'm doing red and green Christmas fabrics with corners being white on white fabrics. Looking forward to the next Childhood Games.
Love all the info. Thanks
I thought that I liked the light blue fabric for your sashing, but when I saw the medium blue you have begun to use I love it. Good choice 👍
I love your sashing and cornerstones for our Stay At Home 2020!
I just was able to catch the beginning of the video, I came on late. my mom also painted, she did beautiful work, I am so thankful that I have a lot of the things she painted to treasure. She changed the way she signed things over the years as well and it is always fun to see the progression.
Thank you on the label info and I like the darker blue!
I love the label info. I always include whose pattern it is. Yiu gave me some new ideas on labels. I use printer treasure fabrics. It holds up for 30 yrs. I love pigma pins. . Practice practice practice using them on fabric. Fabric is different and isnt always cooperative. Labels are highly impprtant.. I live the dark blue you have on your stay at home block. It brings all the different colors together.. Have a great day Pat.
This was really good coverage of the subject!!!
Thanks so much Pat! I’ve been wanting a good video on making labels, with all the tips and tricks!!! Thanks sooo much!! Also, regarding the neat freak who needs the straight lines. I used a ruler, drew straight lines on the paper side of freezer paper, then ironed the wax side to the fabric. The lines show through. Completed my writing and then paper peels off easily. Works great! Also love the corner label tips. Thank you!
Sooo wish I would’ve won that goody bag. 😩
I usually make my labels out of muslin & have had not problem with pens bleeding. Also, I just draw faint lines in pencil to write on, then erase them later.
I really like your sashing and cornerstones. I was being good with getting labels on my quilts but kind of fell off the band wagon with the last three. Better get them done!
I will , promise.
I like the medium Bonnie lane, it provides strong contrast with the other fabrics. The light one I think recedes too much.
I use a piece of the unused lint roller to place on the back of the fabric I’m going to write on. It peels right off and you don’t need an iron like freezer paper.
I tried a label once. The fancy marker ran in the wash! :-( So if I do anymore, I will embroider them on the machine :-) Thanks for the video. I may make them again.
Love the Label information. I am making a quilt for my new grandson. So I will definitely be using all your tips. As for your Stay at Home quilt... I love the medium blue... lovely!!
Hi Pat...I am also “Aunt Patti” on my labels. I just want to say that I also really enjoy putting triangular labels on the back of my quilts and catching the raw edges in the binding. However, I always double my fabric because I find that, many times, the backing material shows through the label, and distracts from what I wrote. So, I fold my square in half, and put in the corner. No raw edges because they are in the binding. That being said, I love your technique of putting your binding fabric on the long edge...I might just have to steal that idea (but will credit you!!!). Thanks for your great tips! Stay safe!
Pat Sloan how wide is the sashing
I love the blue you used .
thank you!
my mother said, youre lucky of you are reembered for three genreations, after that it is really unlikely. maybe with all the photos that has changed, but if they are not labled either its all the same, time marches on and people disappear into the history of the families
April Adventures
My friend Dolores, taught me how to make my labels on the embroidery machine and attache them to the binding as well, only sewing down two sides, and tacking the other two down, they are mostly rectangle shape, they have worked so well, and they hold up when washing the quilt, they don't fade. I did see one of my very first labels on the grand children's quilt and it was almost all gone, that I had hand written, wanted to re do that for sure, so I am glad that I am not embroidering them on now. I always include the pattern name, quilted and pieced by whom, for whom the quilt is for , and my full name with Nana next to it..if appropriate..
So excited to win! Thanks!
This is my first premier. I'm excitex!
The labels I have made are all made on my sewing machine. Embroidery lettering. I attach my labels in the bottom left corner after the quilt has been quilted and are sewn into place when I sew my binding on.
April Quilty Quarantine
The one you choose it great.
Love the label ideas :)
Great video! Thank you!
Great info about labels! Thanks!!
Love your label tips! I always add a label, usually made on Word and printed on fabric backed without freezer paper. Will start adding a signature. I also “name” my quilts and give them a “birthdate “ which is a happy date (wedding date, birthday, not September 11...). It doesn’t have to be the date I finished it!
Checking in from Chicago! I hope everyone is staying healthy!
How wide is the sashing
I enter my quilts into our Guild's shows and they require a label. I always get grumpy making them (because by that point I just want to be done) but I am so glad that I have a record of the dates of the things I've made and I'm happy that I have been forced to do them over the years. I have several quilts from both grandmothers but they have no labels, and I wish I knew which quilt was made by whom and when. It would somehow be more personal. I like the medium blue better than the light blue sashing.
What is the name of the Quilt Pattern behind you...I love it...
I love it!
i like the medium blue
I love the medium blue! Thank you for all the great label information. I love the idea of handwritten labels, but I worry with frequent washing it might fade. Any thoughts on that?
Darker blue
