    I’ve been sewing and quilting for about 20 years and this is the first time someone fully explained well about why bias binding is stronger. Thanks Pat!

    I love scrappy quilts, so if I had scrapy binding I would definitely use it. I've been buying charm packs here and there to hopefully have enough different ones to make a scrapy quilt with. I don't have any family or friends that quilt, so I can't go raid somebody's stache. DANG!!! 😂 I'm still on my first quilt and before this haven't sewed in some time. My materials got list in a move, so I'm starting from scratch again. I want to make another crazy quilt. The 2 that I've done, I put a lot of hand embroidery on. I love this March madness with the calendar of things to do. Thank you. 💗😊💗

    Awesome chat tonight Pat! I made a couple notes about binding that I did not know before. I love to learn new things! LOVE that fabric in your giveaway this week and your two blocks were just lovely! I tend to shy away from plaids but yours inspired me to give it a try! Thanks Pat! ps I always watch you on You Tube so that isn't a problem for me. Please make it easier on yourself!

    It is completely wild I have been one day ahead of you, I did the same yesterday with my planer . Not the binding, I keep mine in a big clear vinyl bag and sew pieces together as I can use them. I have it hanging where I see it.

    I'm a "top expert" which means that's about all I seem to get done. I have over 25 waiting to be quilted and that's where I hit a brick wall. So I don't have a lot of leftover binding yet. Ugh! I have watched all episodes since March 1st because I love your videos, short or long but haven't done everything talked about in those videos. I have a baby shower to attend on Sunday and I am starting the quilt tonight (eek) but at least I have the matching cross stitch picture done. I need to get going!

    Just coming up on three years as a quilter and so far, the only pieced binding I’ve done was with fabrics in that actual quilt. I open up leftover pieces and save them in my 2 1/2 inch strip box. I’m enjoying your daily videos and have done “something “ every day! Since starting to watch your posts, I have begun working on several quilts at once and I love that! Thank you Pat!

    I make up a yards worth of binding , cut 2 1/2 on bias so thast I have enough for several quilts on hand ready to be put on. I keep the shorter pieces for pot holders, mug rugs and place mats when I make them. I have been able to keep up each day and even turned my sewing room around so it is more efficient. all of my storage drawers are on one side of the room . much easier to pick out fabric for my projects. all of my project are in baskets and are on a shelf right behind me so I can reach them easiely. keep the challenges comong. I am working on the aurifil cross stitch right now but have printed the challenge to take on a trip that we are taking to Florida.

    Good info! I did not know these details about binding. I’m in the process of replacing the binding on a well- loved quilt that my mom made. It is about 23 years old. We use it all the time in the living room. That is exactly what happened to the binding. Now I know why this happened.Looks like I need to perfect my skills for making bias binding. scrappy binding is a good plan. I like that you are keeping your challenge in one spot. This way I only need to look in one space and I know the best spot to respond.

    I just finished a quilt top that I started several years ago and have numerous 2 1/2" strip pieces left. I had debated (with myself) about what binding to use, the border fabric or something else. Just decided on a scrappy binding using the leftover strips that were used in the top. Thank you for the idea. I think it will look really cute.

    Yes, I save binding scraps and make scrappy binding for scrappy quilts. I generally find matching/similar colors for that quilt and use foot-long runs of each color (cutting strips, if necessary). Shorter leftovers I cut into 5” and 2,5” strips/ blocks for piecing into other patterns. People usually comment on the scrappy bindings-favorably 😜

  • @jostauffer6637
    @jostauffer6637 4 роки тому

    Yes, I use leftover binding. Still making double, straight of grain binding, so I don't want to waste the fabric. Quilts of Valor binding is generally red, white (cream ) and blue, so I sew those all together and use to bind one of the multi fabric designs. Then the extras of the rainbow colors, sometimes I just cut into squares, or iron the fold out and use as strips. I make less of these as bound quilts, as these quilts are mostly for Project Linus and I generally envelope those. I recently did a bias quilt binding to take advantage of the stripes going diagonally. Boy was that a challenge to wrap my head around! 288 inches is a LOT if you mess up the cutting!

    I’ve used the leftover binding in other quilts as squares or binding on smaller projects. I started doing 2” binding, so it’s going to be a bit more challenging to figure out how to use it up. Maybe for a scrappy quilt.
    I also joined the FQS Stitch quarterly and got my first package. I’m so excited to be cross stitching again!

    Oh I like the idea of clipping the binding with a wonder clip!! I recently started a bin for bindings of my current projects. I always have several in the works and I was always worried about misplacing bindings or binding fabrics. My plan is for each new project I start I will make the binding first and put in the bin. The wonder clip idea will be used!

    What I do with leftover binding depends on the amount I have left. I do double fold binding and if I just have a short amount extra, I tend to press out the fold and add the binding strip to my scrap basket. If it’s a longer piece of binding, I put it with other leftover bindings and eventually piece them together to make a scrappy binding. I piece a lot of scrappy quilts so a scrappy binding always looks fine on them.

    I was until Monday. It was a very sad day for our family. We had to say goodbye to my/our best friend, Indy. That's him in my avatar. It made it harder that he was only 6 and wasn't ill. Sorry for being a downer.
    Today I finally felt like doing something other than cry so I've been watching your videos and I'm all caught up. I thank you for giving me tasks to do! Before Monday I was getting around to doing what you suggested, maybe not on the day but it was getting done. As for the leftover binding my pieces are smaller and I was thinking of making them into mug rugs. Yes I'm one of those that has small pieces and can't bear to through them out! hahahaahaa
