My latest review is one of my additions to my Home Theater system from earlier this year, and that is the Sonos Playbar. After determining I was ready for a chance, I sold my surround sound home theater system and purchased the Sonos Playbar as it's replacement, and I haven't looked back since. Please enjoy the review, and let me know what you think! - Наука та технологія
Well as of yesterday, I went "all-in"... I purchased the playbar, sub, and two play 1's and your were right; THEY ARE AMAZING! I'm now posting my existing definitive technology towers along with a high end Rotel receiver. I will get much more mileage out of these and the best thing about it is the control and NO FRIGGIN' WIRES!
Thanks bro; your review helped me make a solid and wise decision.
Niceeeeee man the best review by far from all the others. You have given me all the information I needed. 10x
Very informative video. You touched on many important areas. You've helped me with my decision making. Going to audition the Sonos system very soon.
Great review, I was confused as too which soundbar to buy. Good job, good review. I will pick one of these babies up. Thank ypu much
GREAT REVIEW AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS ON GETTING SONOS SOUNDBAR OR NOT. THAKS AGAIN TO YOUR REVIEW AND ALL YU ALL OUT THERE THAT LEAVE YOUR ADVICE FOR LEARNING GUYS LIKE ME THAT ARE STILL LEARNING ELECTRONICS AND WHAT AND WHAT NOT TO BYT.THANKS AGAIN !!!
great review! thanks for helping me make my decision to buy!
Hey Techgooch,
Great vid, how do you think the stereo capabilities of this sound bar are? I'm worried I won't be able to distinguish left from right in movies etc.
Thanks!
Did you find that the HDMI switch sorted your issue with the optical? Also are you getting Simulated surround when the playbar gets PCM sent to it? - via ps3 blurays or aTV apps...? Would you say the sub is needed? Also do you think that with the last two channels/speakers (play:1/3) towards 5.1 missing, decreases the enjoyment of movie/gaming experience and audio experience?
Thanks!
Really good and indepth review thanks very much , i have two Play 1 speakers and want to add a play bar but i have read on the net that the play bar does not support DTS , do you know if this is true and in your opinion do you think it will be a problem ?. Thanks again , Matt.
Excellent review... thanks.
I heard this Sonos play bar with the Sonos subwoofer and omg it was like someone turn the party on lol it was loud clear and great bass if I had the money I would definitely get me one
Great review and great product! I would also advise consumers to buy the Boost as it gives a more solid and dedicated Wifi...
Have you reviewed soundbars in the $300-$400 range?
you do great reviews well done.
Thanks!
Very good and thorough review... The most informative that I've seen yet. I've been researching for a while but my main question is, what to do with my Rotel receiver and mythos towers?
You could get rid of the receiver and setup the towers with the Sonos Connect Amp
A Sonos connect amp can be had for $325 on eBay and you can enjoy your speakers everywhere.
Awesome review. Just one question? Did you experience any issues setting up the lip sync feature on initial set up? I am struggling with this on mine. It is connected directly to my TV via optical cable, and it is wall mounted above the TV as instructed bu Sonos in their manual. But I just can't seem to achieve perfection on the lip sync. I have tried all different configurations, and altered the settings both on the Sonos app and on the TV itself but it is still slightly out of sync. Just wondered if this is normal, or whether I need to keep fiddling with it!
Simon Ashton As far as i can tell, the onlly thing you can do is fiddle around with its lip sync settings until perfection.
Just subscribed. You do an excellent job
+Ralph DiCecca Thank you
Any thoughts on this system with the sub compared to the Bose Soundtouch 300 with a sub? I am trying to decide between the two and both seem to have their pros and cons. Just curious if you have compared the two? Thanks
+Chris Lin both are fantastic. I prefer the Sonos still for a couple of reasons. I think that the Sonos App and available Music is much better, and I prefer the ability to choose my rear speakers rather than the small surround sound octave Bose offers. The soundbars by themselves though, it's hard to choose a winner!
Thanks for the great review. I'm very interested. Couple of real quick questions please.
1. I don't follow with the ethernet cable is required. Can't this device connect to my WIFI for the initial setup and media library (I really only want it for TV sound so its not huge but surprising).
For 1400, if I buy the playbar and the sub --- Is it the best solution for Home Theatre sound with ANY wireless that can make the dialog perfect!!!!
+No Name ok...
1. Yes, a little while after this review they enabled WiFi setup, but in order to use Sub or Rear speakers you still have to do use Ethernet or bridge/boost setup
2. To date, Sonos is still my favorite all around Home Theater System. The only products that would beat it in audio would be wired highfi speakers
Can you let me know what HDMI switch you brought with Optical Audio out? How well did it work? Got the same issue, but really wanted a playbar. Thanks
I actually didn't ever get one, I have a different TV now, but there are several out there. One that I was looking at was from Monoprice
Thanks for the video. I'm looking into buying a Sonos system for my TV and this answered some of my questions.
I've read elsewhere that even if your TV has optical out, it won't pass the proper signal for 5.1. Is that true? I was planning to set up a PlayBar, Sub, and 2 rear Play1s, but if 5.1 won't come out of the TV, what's the point?
Great to hear! It is still my favorite solution on the market! Now I just need to add the Sub!
As for the 5.1 Dolby Digital out the Optical, it depends on your TV. Most Sony's provide HDMI to Optical Dolby Pass Through, but sadly most Samsung and LG's do not. Do a search for your exact TV model to find out if yours does.
Also you can buy a optical spitter like I did called J-Tec digital in amazon that's what i did on xbox one dolby headphone and soundbar combine.
+zztop7000 good call
I got a j--tech adapter with optical output it don't work without having to unplug the optical cable to tv or DVD player. Is there another way to hook the tv DVD and playbar so that sound play
+sabrena cross if you are using HDMI at all with this TV, to get sound out of the Playbar or any other optical device, you will have to plug directly into the Playbar. I had a HDMI switch with Optical out so when I switched HDMI inputs it automatically switched for me.
ha! That's my old 42" 3lcd tv (and stand). Time for an upgrade from 1080i, don't you think? It does still look slick though.
Yes, but I still love my TV as long as it is not really bright in the room. It will be upgraded soon enough, but she has never had an issue and works like the day I brought her home!
Hi if you add subwoofer will that be to loud on apartment? Thanks!
+zztop7000 depends on what you classify as loud. You can adjust the amount of bass the sub puts out
Hi I have that tv and stand. How did you get sound coming from the tv when watching a movie
using a DVD player and the sonos play bar
+sabrena cross the Playbar is hooked directly to the device via optical since that particular TV does not throughout HDMI audio to the optical port. You could also get a converter
I just got the play bar today...what converter are you referring to, my TV (Mitsubishi WD73642 73-Inch 3D DLP) which has a digital out, but it looks like a RCA connection. Please help!
What is that blue and black gizmo on the bottom shelf you have?!!?
That would be an www.ooma.com Telo.
I have 2 player 3 with my soundbar how do I get all 3 to play the same.I hsd it hooked up to surround sound but i want it more like stereo instead of surround the surround make music and background sounds loader I need it all to play the voices of what were watching
Setup without attaching Play 3's...set them up as another room. Then, group that room with the living room!
Hi, I'm thinking about buying Sonos 5.1 cinema (PLAYBAR, 2x PLAY:1 & SUB) but SONOS do not support DTS audio, only DOLBY SURROUND. 80% my movie collection is encoded in DTS-HD.
Do not feel uncomfortable using it as a home cinema? What is your opinion?
I agree, I do wish they supported DTS, but I am a huge SONOS fan and love the sound their speakers produce, so I still went that route
Nakamichi Shockwafe soundbars blow Sonos out of the water, check it out.
Sonos sounds good on paper but in my opinion Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite 7.2 blows it out of the water. Obviously if I spend over $1000 for better audio, a 7.1 or even 5.1.2 AVR setup is the way to go.
I will take a peek!
great video. is that the Ooma VOIP you have under the bar? If so, do you like it? I'm thinking of switching to it
Sure do, I have a review posted a while back as well
Really you would do it again? You have no regrets when listening to music with lost bass? I am using a soundbar with wireless sub and thinking of getting a sonos playbar but really thinking the the initial experience will be disappointing because of the missing sub provided it is not purchased with the playbar initially.
I would not hesitate getting the play at again! I am planning on adding the Sub and think it performs better than most others on the market, but the sound at alone doesn't disappoint!
You do not need anything hardwired to router. One simply starts off with a single item hardwired and remove the cable after initial setup :)
True, and they now offer WiFi setup that they didn't when I shot this video. However, in order to get updates and use the full potential of the Sonos Music System, you want it connected to the internet in some fashion.
I’m very picky when it comes to soundbar as heard a lot of nasty cheap ones which is nowhere near producing cinematic sound. So what about Sonos PLAYBAR?
does this work without a tv as a independent source ?
Yes it does
dos the speaker have an on/off switch?
No, but it does put itself to sleep if it doesn't receive anything
You don’t need the bridge for wireless. I have this unit and the sub and it connects via WiFi
You used to...WiFi direct was an update after this video was made
is you still available to answer a question
Sonos playbar and sub better than some 5.1 system out there??
I believe it is, I absolutely love it!
Would you say this unit is better, worse or = to the Bose 130 soundbar system? www.bose.com/prc.jsp?url=/shop_online/home_theater/soundbars/soundtouch_130/index.jsp
+Kathleen Smith I would take the Sonos Playbar anyday!
I am in the same dilemma - Bose 130 vs Sonos playbar/sub. would be very keen to hear your decision.
It thas not have a USB entrance and HDMI in,
I I have a Sony tv like you
Far too dark,I can hardly see it,try opening the blinds!
Makes no sense, you have a $700 sound bar with a $50 projector TV?!?! Of course that old TV doesn’t have optical.
this needs Bluetooth
Actually, I like that it doesn't use the device to play the media, only uses it as a remote!
I'm going full metal troll on this company. Their software is so unbelievably clunky and non user friendly, I totally regret this purchase of not cheap equipment. The connection works well, pairs quickly but the interface is dog shit frustrating.
Dan White What about the latest interface overhaul?
