Just a reminder... I am always first!
Third. ;p
*edit* wow one comment disappeared I'm second :O
NO ME!!!!!
are you sure?
Sometimes coming first isn't such a good thing
LoL guardians of the galaxy in the background
Just a gentle reminder, that price is ALWAYS subjective.... Sure, $1400 is a lot, however I personally know people who have $15,000 TVs and $20,000 sound setups.... just remember that every ones finances and willingness to pay is obviously going to vary. Lets not all be "Price Fairies" now....
One Goat I dont believe I said that this person was using MP3s.....
so true jay, i can't disagree or say anything on other peoples own personal choices, i can only give recommendations.
so yeah, let's just say you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
I spend 40$ on my audio setup. I picked up a pair of Philips FB 815 speakers for free. Refoamed them myself for 20$ Then I got an amplifier that had some problems with the power delivery, resolderd some things on the motherboard and changed a few capacitors (5$). Bought some cables (5$) and now I think I have the best audio setup possible for 40$, btwc the FB 815 speakers sound amazing with a good amplifier, I'm literaly blown away.
Barnacules Nerdgasm cough...cough...
I watched your video about gpu bottlenecks and I have a question. If my cpu usage is not reaching close to 100% why do other cpu's perform better with the same gpu?
I personally own a Sonos Playbar, Sub, and two Play:3s as surrounds for my living room and I haven't regretted it for a second. Sonos produces high quality speakers and sound great and have a plethora of options and features. It's obvious that all of the people who are "hating" on this video are people who haven't used Sonos speakers before.
Hey Jayz, been loving your videos for just over a year now, helped me with some builds and picking out some pc parts, so I wanted to say thank you :) for the work you do.
I got my playbar last week, and i am in deep love with it!
Oh yeah... I forgot we were talking about sound..... where all of the audiophiles look for reasons to bitch lol.... shame on me
Haha
why would an audiphile person be interested in a soundbar?
Wait....Make a video that everyone on the internet doesn't agree with you on? the audacity....
Hmm i dont know...maybe to listen to music
ilov3mus1cx3 It's pretty danm good quality sound they produce. Maybe not top grade sound, but danm it's a nice system :)
Jay, keep up the good work man. Love your work!
Seems the volume didn't go up that high even when he set it at max volume.. can it get loud?
Nice, I was actually looking into this and didn't expect you to have a review on it. Good stuff!
I have two Sonos bookshelve speakers and just got the beam. Love it!
what do you think about the EMF issues/hype?
Glad you did this review! Hope you do more AV stuff in the future!
Great review! I've always been iffy on SONOS with their high price. Would love to try one in my home!
Jay, how is the center channel control via optical? I know you only get pass through from certain televisions. I'm assuming yours is one. But this is the main reason I didn't buy the sonos. I'm now considering the Soundtouch 300 and bass because there seems to be some amount of control of dialogue volumes.
I have had 2 sound systems for my TV in 15 years. Both under $600. I bought the PlayBar and Sub and Wow! Simplicity and High fidelity! 2 days later and a total of $2100 I purchased 2 Play 3 speakers and am blown away by the surround sound. I am now looking at 2 Play 5's to add to my family room.
Still like the sonos? Debating to buy this or find something like it a tad cheaper.
hey wanted some help make a purchase decision.which do you feel is good sound setup for sonos (playbar +2×play1+sub) or (sonos beam + 2*play 5) for a living room 22ft×12ft approx. great work comprehensive reviews.
Great, informative video Jay!! Keep up the good work :D
Hey jay just wondering if you had to do it all over again would you buy the sonos or something different.
Did you drag your dxRacer to your living room? In that case it must be really comfy.
There is no replacement for displacement. I use the full size Paradigm speakers hooked to a Denon. When I play the beginning of Blade Runner for people on it they cry.
Thanks for the review. If I can find these in Australia they will be a great solution for my gaming room and outdoor entertaining area once we set that one up...multizone FTW!
Do you know if there is support for WP8?
Hey jayz,
Are you going to add a pair of play 1's or play 3's for 5.1 surround? I would like to hear your opinion about the difference with the play 1's or play 3's
Completely agree. I sold this heavily when I was in retail and the demo units really weren't that good and our Sonos rep just ignored me(think he hated me for some reason). Every customer I sold one I always saw them coming back to thank me and most times buy more speakers. Great video by the way.
Stereo systems from the 70's had so little to hook up compared to today the hardest thing was making sure your tonearm was set properly.
Compared to now, the 70's and 80's systems were easy.
i want to overclock my gpu, do i need a special motherboard for that?
It's been many a year since I've upgraded my living room. Still rocking a Panasonic plasma from about 7 years ago.
Just curious... you said you were watching a blueray DVD on this. If the optical cable goes between the soundbar and the tv, how does the blueray or other component (PS4 (AppleTV)) integrate? Thanks. Great video
Great review Jay. Thinking of purchasing one myself.
That sound system is awesome.
Hey Jay
I have a question on your thoughts about the Razer Leviathan as a Cheap option and whether its worth the price of £159
What is the mouse pad that you had in the black widow keyboard video in interested in the extra wide mouse pads so plz tell me
so is the sound good enough even with out the sub?
Yet again another good review Jay. Your editing is amazing. I'm just now getting into uploading my own UA-cam content and your one of my inspirations to taking the plunge. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the review. One question, can you access the music in iTunes library on your iPhone or MacBook?
thanks
Sure can! Just point the controller software to your iTunes Library location. I actually have my iTunes Library out on a NAS and I can stream all the music from there on any Sonos speaker in the house.
THANK YOU! I went to best buy with the full intention of purchasing playbar and sub. Walked out with nothing because it sounded absolutely terrible. Will reconsider thanks to your video.
Loving the videos jay. Please upload more
:(
@jaystwocents can i hook up a sonos bean sound bar to my gpu video card?
Hi will this only play from dedicated music channels or can it stream from my iphone?... for eg we know it can play itunes etc but if im watching youtube on my phone or even playing angry birds can i have the sound coming from the playbar?
What's the best 2.1 speakers for under £100 for a PC/desk setup? Want to upgrade from Logitech LS2100
Awesome. Guardians in the background!
What case do you have on your iphone?
I've been thinking about replacing my 9.1 channel LG BH9431PW, with a Sonos playbar.. I already have a play1, sounds awesome. Would a playbar alone outdo the 9.1 channel LG hometheater system? that's my question so far.. can a playbar be enough to outdo it. I'm curious enough to try it.. maybe sometime in the future I'll go with the SUB next. Great video!
How does the sound compare the Bose Soundtouch 300 please ?
I've been using sonos fo about 4yrs, I not come across a better system. We have all our new and old c d's downloaded onto a wifi hard drive. great system.
You are 100% correct about sound at stores. I bought it 1 to try it out based on reviews. Now I'm expending because the sound it's much better in my home then stores
only one question.
is it for android - iphone -windows phone?
I have this one at home! It is one of the best speakers ever made!
Hey Jay, since you're on the topic of sound systems which one do you use for your PC? Based on your videos it looks like you have the Logitech Z506, am I correct?
sonos playbar or yamaha ysp 4300 ?
Which is better ?
Is the 970 vram issue a hardware or software issue? Is there a fix or naw
I am confused between 5.1 Home Theater System & a Sound Bar with Wireless Sub Woofer,Plz let me know which one has a better Sound Quality ?
I don't understand why people are getting up in arms about this review... It's a review over a product that may not be the best quality, may not be the best sound, but quite honestly it's the best I've seen in simplicity for this price. Alot of people may not be worried about having 100% accuracy and a THD of 0.00000000001% but instead would like an option that is as simple as possible. I however strive for accuracy (and it is by far not simple to achieve) so this product is not going to be for me, I can however have respect for the audio quality (which is only ~10% subjective btw) with something this simple to use and see how it can fit in.
These people calling themselves "audiophiles" and shitting on this review need to sit down...
JayzTwoCents, out of topic : why high end systems or users dont use ssd like p3700 400gb 1200$ , or p3600. Could you try contact intel and get some samples and test for Us?
Thanks for all great work
Awesome video. Awesome products. I love Sonos and can't wait to give them more of my money.
Can I use this Sound Bar inside my Car having 12 Volt Battery using A/C D/C Converter ?
Amazon accidently sent me a sonos satellite along with what I originally ordered. It's a great speaker and I would love to buy another but it is quite expensive
i just got one of these 2 days ago. i love it
Im running two KRK RP8's they sound great!
i think my current surround sound setup will do for now, but a very good looking upgrade in the future. Jay have you considered looking at the Razer Leviathan it looks really good for the price but i wonder how it matches up to other things?
I've read that sound bars may actually sobs better if they're mounted above the tv, does anyone know if this would be the case with this unit?
bose hooked up to analyze Optical with my phone as a remote good for me .I ordered my system with is 7.1 in 2013 for 1000$ .but still going good I love em.
Jay, great video but how much bandwidth of your home network does this system use? If it is running completely wireless then will this affect my internet speeds, some of us don't have GOD internet eg: 100mbit+.. so would this be a drain on resources?
Jay Kay No more than streaming music on your phone, and anyway when using TV sound or streaming from your phone or computer then the data is only transferred internally so zero bandwidth usage in that case.
OMG Ottis redding- sitting by the dock of the bay =) good times
I have heard full surround units in the past, but the cleanliness and ease of control on a sound bar is just as good, to me, as that full surround. I'll take my 3.1 Bar and Woofer over a huge set up.
Whats is trat for a Film in the Background.
Nice review! Wouldn't buy something like this personally but I like the review. Keep up the good work!
Why not hook up a 5.1 or 7.1 sound system to a HTPC? Still functions as a media server.
Please PLEASE SOMEONE What is the name of the outro song PLEASE the song at the end of the video. Jayz I really like this song.
Do you need the sonos bridge to get the soundbar and sub to work?
JLP Design Until SONOS Version 5.4 gets released to the public, Yes.
hey man...I just brought my Sonos system and it's INCREDIBLE!!! all you said about it is true but one thing to me I don't like is the app!!! you should be able to use it anywhere for the price we spent on the system!!! we should be able to customize the system on the go; I shouldn't have to be home just to add something through Sonos app. But performance is even better than Bose to me; I stood next to a Bose system then heard Sonos I was sold and just whipped out the card like soooo fast. Well that's my 2 cents.
These kind of vids are nice, also, keep these coming ;D
jay talk about thermal paste and the different quality?
does the playbar come with brackets for wall mount?
Bracket has to be purchased separately.
Brand/Model of the TV?
Why didn't you use the PC program ??
LOVE MY SONOS!!!
I still have my pioneer 5.1 surround sound home theatre system from '06 almost ten years and still bumping like new...
damm youtube never shows you in my feed :( . o well nice vid jay :)
I've had one for about a year, and it is an amazing piece of technology. The only criticism I have is that the Playbar actually lost its connection to my network not once, but on two separate occasions. No amount of troubleshooting could fix the problem, and so I had to send it back to Sonos for a replacement. The representatives I spoke with could never really explain what the problem was, other than general "electronic failure." On the plus side of that issue, their customer service was very helpful and thorough, and they had the replacements at my house within 48 hours of my initial call both times. It's been a good few months, and the third Playbar is working perfectly. And hey...if Sonos gets BaBa Booey's approval, then it must be worth it.
when you hear good lossless surround hd-audio the first time, there is no going back...
I have a B&W Zeppelin air in the bedroom and I love it, but for movies I need hd-audio with my 20 years old Vienna Acoustics speakers.
this is a good demo...for me personaly, it would have been interesting to hear a little bit more about the built quality of the speakers. what kind of drivers are they using, especially in the sub? what kind of materials are used for the soundbar?
how's the bass without the subwoofer?
I like dogs aswell
Polk tsx 110b withe smsl sa60 and schiit modi...never really got into setting up the surround..
Love my sonos system
I just purchased this Sonos playbar tonight at best buy as well. I also picked up the SUB. I went in to return some external drives I did not need and had in mind to buy the $500 bose speaker. I knew a few people at the store and they recommended me to buy the sonos. So far so good, I couldn't believe either how easy it was to install. I really like, it really hurts my pocket but I am enjoying it. I also connected some of my retro game consoles and I had a blast with the sound. Love the mobile app as well. Are you still happy with your sonos?
i am using Denon AVR-X2100W + Jamo S 526 HCS + Jamo SUB210 and i must say the sound is very clear and good, everything connected, bluray play,ps4,xbox 1
I bought my gf a soundbar for xmas we both love it but tue sound i get from my 5.1 surround sound hooked up 2 my asus essence stx 2 blows the sound bar out the water.
Question, if you turn your tv on, does the playbar and sub automatically turn on? Or you have to manually turn it on?
Chris Sepulveda The Playbar and SUB (and optional rear Play:1s or Play:3s) are always on and will automatically switch to TV when a "new" feed is detected from the optical cable. (This setting can be changed in the SONOS settings.)
levelUp_Josh Dont worry about the "always on" thing... they use up very little power when not in use.
I have Sonos around the house, including the Playbar and Subwoofer. The people complaining about the price are misguided in my opinion. There is not other company out there which has superior sound quality, has all the streaming services available (even the small ones...and Tidal for the best streaming losless quality). I am streaming, from the same account, different songs around the house, radio, or play the same thing in certain parts or all around. All of this, with the speakers in perfect sync while they create a huge mesh network of their own for the best connection. And if one speaker is very far away from the rest of the mesh, you just need to tell Sonos through the app your home network details and that will allow that speaker to connect to the 'Sonos Network' and mesh through your home wifi. I can list so many more things.
So if you ask me, I think think this is well damn worth the price.
Can you just get the sub? Will it still play music?
No
I have a 5.1 Sonos surround and love it. By far the best surround sound system for this price point. I use this in my living room and I have golden ear 7.1 in my home theater but they sound similar and the sonos were cheaper.
I have a Sony 7 channel receive I bought about a year ago or so and now maybe wish I had gotten something like this. Not only is the Sony and receivers like it difficult to properly set up, but they generate a ton of heat especially if you set them up in an enclosed case. I'm assuming you have none of these issues with this Sonos. If the surround sound is the same as what you would get from a higher end receive system the price seems to work out about the same after you buy a receiver and separate good speakers, maybe the Sonos is even cheaper. I'll definitely give a device like this a look the next time I redo my living room audio.
currently using A mixture of Jbl gear, ES90 Fronts, JBL Balboa Set (Sub, Centre and Fronts) using the fronts as rears, ES150P but heart transplanted the balboa guts into the ES150P Box and vice versa.
Harmon Kardon AVR 165 as my reciever but looking to change to Yamaha (cant remember the model) that has 7.1 but you change it to 5.1 and BI-Amp the fronts.
In the bedroom Im running JBL Cinema SCS200.5 with a borrowed Harmon Kardon AVR 3000. Unsure as to what type of amp il get for the bedroom but probably a Yamaha
Are you still satisfied with this setup? Has it stood the test of time?
Wondering how worth it that tv is over a high end projector...
Have you (or any others) set up the surround sound...with the Play1or3 as your rear speakers? From what i read, each speaker needs to be plugged into an outlet? Is correct?
***** Well how else would you power the speaker? Imagine how many batteries you would need to buy....
***** I understand, but it's hard to consider this a "wireless" solution...if you still need to run the power cords. So you still need to hide come wires, correct?
***** I am referring more to the back speakers of a surround sound setup. I know the play bar or sub would require a ton of batteries to operate.
***** so wi-fi isn't really wireless, cuz you still need to run the power cords. Your logic.
Akira Ichikawa I know you are trying to be a smartass, but no, not that router itself. I would not consider that wireless. Provides wireless connectivity.
The quality of the Playbar is not the best, but its great for a casual tv room!
You have no idea what you talking about 😂
Can you use traditional receiver i have Pioneer VSX 1020, reason is because i have many other devices. RoKu, Xbox, PS4, TV, Wii, Home server.
yes you can...buy the amp (which is the connect) and you can add your existing stuff to it and the whole system will work togather
One of the channels i watch Z Reviews has a mic that could definitely pick up the sound quality of the sonos.
It looks cool. I like things that look cool and are minimalist.
If I was fairly wealthy and actually owned a TV I might consider this.
