Danny DeVito doesn't get enough praise for his performance in this movie. He's fucking outstanding. And Pfeiffer is a proto-Daria in BDSM gear, all deadpan and whatnot. It's insane. I love it.

And it's really not about generations anymore as much as it's the times we live in. The expanse of technology has led to better communication and more access to information. So anyone from any generation who is influenced by their social media or news outlet of choice will react accordingly. It's more groups of people responding, not just one specific generation.

So true! This really is the best version of Batman imo. It’s just enough camp and doesn’t take itself to serious…the whole premise of Batman is absurd…love the newer adaptations but are we really supposed to take a grown man dressed like a BAT serious?! I think not!

Definitely agreed! Michelle Pfeiffer successfully surpassed all others actresses who played Catwoman in 1960's. Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway all failed and still can't surpass Michelle Pfeiffer since 1992.

Both are sinister, wants to do chaos and are not afraid to kill anyone. That catwoman smiles back at penguin 😍 is dam sexy!

Dan Sweet From what I understood, the penguin really wanted to be accepted as a man by society but only by status, he wanted to regain the rights he had lost when he rose to power but he remains in his actions, a real monster who has no emotion, consideration or even ideology, in the end he is the same as Shreck, a politician who earns the trust of society because he is sold well as an ideology of tolerance and rights but his real plan is to 'have the power and kill the children of Gotham.

As a kid I loved the Penguin but now, I wish his screentime was severely cut down. The film is Bruce and Selina. Outside of those two, it's just spectacle.

That’s where you’re dead wrong: Penguin is a critical component to this movie because, like Catwoman, he is manipulative and crafty, but he’s out for his own interests and just that. He cares not who gets hurt as long as he get what he wants. The same might be said of Catwoman, but she knows where to draw the line.
It’s best illustrated in the line that characters say throughout the movie: “we have something in common”, and that serves as justification for ruining other lives so as to get what they want and that alone; compare this to Batman, who tells Catwoman that they’re the same, and that serves as motivation to help her, to save her.
You say “just spectacle” as though it were a bad thing, but if it was just a plain old love story about good and evil falling for one another, where’s the fun in that?
This movie's casting director did an amazing job, all the roles in this movie were perfect casting calls...

It's a snarky sarcastic but clever way of acknowledging that they dress freaky and look crazy absurd.
The 'tsars of fashion' literally being like the nice fashion designers; a beauty people aspire to and a style society admires.
And they're villains, so it's fitting they'd be contemptuous as opposed to just different. Ya gotta get your hate on.
Plus they feel society is beneath them, including being normal or beautiful. Because their life traumas made them powerful, and so screw them all.
So yeah... It's a brilliant line.

I always imagined the meaning a similar way to you except I figured that when he said “czars/tsars” of fashion he was referring to the people who created the basic concepts of fashion (basically the norms) but your way does make it more understandable and I guess it works either way. It’s really crazy how people will skip over the funniest/best lines in this movie like the latter and the one where he basically called Selina an insecure sorority girl (LMFAO) in favour of talking about Michelle being hot.

Michelle must have weighed no more than 115 lbs in that role! Very petite and svelte.
I suspect she weighed less than that. Then again, muscle weighs more than fat, and she worked out for the role, so it's also possible that she weighed a little more than she looked, whereas other, less muscular, women of around the same height, might have weighed less, even if they appeared larger/curvier.

The villains were perfectly cast here but the film kinda suffered for the same reason Spider-Man 3 did. They had multiple villains with entirely different goals and having them inexplicably team up just didn’t really work for the most part.
Both movies were made in different times.
It worked out here because it tied into all 3 villains reflecting different aspects of Batman himself. And Catwoman was a well acted and well thought out character, so even if she's not super connected to Penguin she still elevates the movie with her presence.
I actually do think it worked here because penguin and Catwoman are only teamed up for about 20 minutes of the movie and it’s in the middle. The fact that penguin sort of immediately betrayed her after their plan actually gives credence to your point about them being different characters with different goals; once the framing of Batman was enacted, their actions acknowledged that very thing.
That’s where you’re wrong. Batman Returns is far better than Spider-Man 3. It suffered because it was too dark for the time it came out. Parents thought this movie was appropriate for children until they saw it. It’s a pop culture icon now. Penguin was the main villain, Max was a supporting villain that contributes to Penguin, same goes with Catwoman who’s borderline anti-hero/villain. Spider-Man 3 was a mess in which villain was the main one to focus on along with its overly goofy moments and messy storyline.

If this was made today, we'd have gotten at least 3 more movies with Tim and Michael and this would have been celebrated instead of condemned by everyone

DC often changes a few characteristics of its characters for several different universes. Like in Gotham the Joker was named Jerome yet he's named Arthur in the new film (and a few others if my knowledge is correct).
