Lots of symbolism in this scene. Being pushed off the rooftop is her fall from grace. She comes back to life, but turns into something completely different, something she never imagine. The whole "One Bad Day" thing is BS anyways. Even Joker himself had to be going through a lot of stuff long before his "One Bad Day" thing to drive him mad.
@@sahil47 That means that the "One Bad Day" thing is just the straw that broke the camel's back. Not one bad day that destroys a perfectly normal person.
i watched this movie THREE times in theaters, because of her and countless times after that on video and now on dvd. Burton and most of all the studio should ve followed up on his plans for a catwoman movie with pfeiffer in the lead. She really nailed the part and the character. Instead we had to wait for years...and then got halle berry in one of her worst performances and in probably the worst movie about catwoman EVER!
I rewatched this movie recently and noticed something I hadn't before. Around the halfway point, after she's teamed up with the Penguin to get rid of Batman, she's out during the day as Selina and staring at her reflection in a store window, and she says to herself, "Why are you doing this?" And there's a dollhouse display in the window. I thought it was an interesting, subtle character moment, and if you blink you might miss it (like I did for 30 years).
Miss Kitty: Yeah, yeah. It was you decided to turn up and SET IT OFF up in this bitch. Good luck getting that deposit on this now hell hole back! Time to own it and kill that muthafucka Shreck, girl! Show that bitch you ain't that little girl anymore!
This scene alone is a good reason why Tim Burton’s Batman will always remain undefeated. Even with limited technology/effects, we were mesmerized by these characters.
This always gave me the chills. It's Batman universe but very real as in how abuse breaks someone and their innocence. Amazing acting, music, direction🙌🏼
This scene is amazing, i just recently rewatched catwoman scenes and in fact every scene with catwoman is amazing, her acting is top class to say the least.
Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance in this movie was amazing! She brought so much nuance and raw emotional power to the character. This scene is a perfect example, where she says so much with barely any dialogue. Too bad most people these days only seem to remember her for her costume (which was awesome, don’t get me wrong), when there was so much more to her. Best Catwoman ever!
"What is fascinating about the Douglas character, as written and played, is the core of sadness in his soul. Yes, by the time we meet him, he has gone over the edge. But there is no exhilaration in his rampage, no release. He seems weary and confused, and in his actions he unconsciously follows scripts that he may have learned from the movies, or on the news..." - Roger Ebert, from his review of "Falling Down" These words describe what makes Tim Burton and Michelle Pfeiffer's treatment of Catwoman so unique. In most other incarnations she is an amoral thief who's at peace with what she does, but Pfeiffer's Selina is badly broken, and even her most exuberant behavior is a cover for how confused and angry she is. She plays up a hidden part of her personality, but she has no idea how to stop, or what she would do if she did stop. In hindsight, her character arc makes the film much less cartoonish and much more tragic.
That scream at the answering machine is so powerful and chilling. Everyone loves the "hear me roar" but her birth in her apartment is my fav catwoman scene.
" Hello, S a l i n a K y l e. We're just calling to make sure you've tried Gotham Lady Perfume. One whiff of this at the office and your boss will be asking you to stay after work for a candlelight staff meeting for two. Gotham Lady Perfume...exclusively at Schrek's Department Store " 2:02
The more we age, the more we get to understand the facts that summoned the catwoman inside her... Adults confront different problems than children. And Selina Kyles cup just overflowed....

I love how Tim Burton put some supernatural in this movie, Batman doesn't need to be all realistic everytime, he made his version and for me it's a great movie, Michelle Pfeiffer is the best catwoman in live actions!
Lydia Royal people are making a big deal about Harley quinn now because she was just in a movie the last cat women was in a movie was 2005. Like use common sense.
Lydia Royal Right on sister! This was character creation as pure and true as possible! Margo as Harley was cool but no heart and feeling like this. No true to form of the characters like this. Just cheap thrills unlike their comic counterparts . Sorry you got insulted too, I did awhile ago and I was agreeing with the dude. You just can't control people getting childhood rage out on strangers. But everyones entitled to thier opinion I suppose.
Raven Black It's not rage when I'm stating a fact. This has nothing to do with Margo Robbie. The reason people are talking about Harley Quinn and not catwomen is because Harley was in a popular movie recently. If you think me stating facts is childish then I don't know what to tell you.
Oh suuuuuure... when SHE does it it's an 'origin story' but when I do it it's a "weekly mental breakdown"... Re: Oh, now. Clearly just a lighthearted joke. Lets not get so messy, lads.😂
I love the moment where she truly accepts what just happened to her and goes ballistic. Her boss just murdered her for no reason and she survived. She is officially scarred for life from the experience.👍
What I love about this movie is how it went FULL Burton. The first one had more of a "noir" type of vibe and maybe that was to just keep it safe but after the success of the first movie the studios just said "okay go full gothic burton in the next one". one of the best sequels ever and a beautiful looking film as well.
Nadia7474 could not agree more. She is the best cat woman ever, even better than Eartha Kitt. And I love Eartha. Pfeiffer breaks your heart and makes vengeance deliciously seductive.
Gc Liew True thank you for your comment.. but I was referring to how Pfeiffer was really committed to the cat woman role as if she is possessed with a cat soul
There are so many reasons why Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is the best one of all the Batman films! The main reason (for me) was all in this scene. In all the other Catwomans played by Julie Newmar and Anne Hathaway, you already see them as Catwoman. In this film, you see Selina Kyle before she became Cat Woman, her death as "Selina Kyle" and her rebirth as Catwoman. That alone gives both the scene and the character of Catwoman so much more chemistry and relatability to the audience than just her amazing suit and look of Catwoman!
the first time i watched this movie i was so fascinated by catwoman. michelle pfeiffer truly brought her character to life. as i get older the more i relate to the character. lol for the longest time i wanted to be her. it’s 2022 and i’m still mesmerized by catwoman and especially michelle pfeiffer’s catwoman. the new batman movie with Zoë as catwoman is also amazing. both women did absolutely amazing and haven’t failed to make me proud to be a catwoman fan

I always did love the symbolism here, Tim Burton's a genuis.
Very good analysis. 👍

Never noticed before at 3:40, she grabs blue scissor, but it jumps to her using a pink one.
She must have grabbed the wrong color.
I saw both a blue and pink one.
I like how she breaks the lights from saying hello there to hell here
Michelle Pfeiffer is hands down the best Cat Woman.
Agree
yeah, she was charismatic from the get go
you state the obvious
Yes she is and besides she's gorgeous
Hathaway was fine, but she wasn't nearly as memorable as Pfeiffer's Catwoman.
Who else has never thought of Catwoman as a villain?
Edit: wow this is my most liked comment ever!
She had enough of being stepped all over. Relatable.
I mean all she did was steal stuff, plus she loved Batman.
I think there are no heroes and villains in this movie. Just characters.
Me
Lol she still is. 🤨😑.
Michelle Pfeiffer is the best Catwoman ever. She was made for this role!
I love how tim Burton always uses Danny elfmans score in every film he directs and produces that's why every film is the best when it's made by them
All these people commenting “All it takes is just one bad day”. Bro her boss literally *YEETED* her from a 10+ floor building and she somehow managed to survive just to return to her “miserable” lifestyle. Idk but it seems like life just shitted on her and she went *APESHIT*
The whole "One Bad Day" thing is BS anyways. Even Joker himself had to be going through a lot of stuff long before his "One Bad Day" thing to drive him mad.
芒果GangoMango LMAOOOO!!!!!!
It means it takes one bad day to loose your shit.. Doesn't mean you're not having bad days before it
@@sahil47 That means that the "One Bad Day" thing is just the straw that broke the camel's back. Not one bad day that destroys a perfectly normal person.
Not even just that but the past was depression working at her job with an asshole boss like Max. So it’s not just one bad day but a bad life.
Iconic. Michelle truly nailed this role, she's probably my favorite actress to play the part.
I completely agree no one plays this part like her
wait did the cats make the lady to be like that !?!
Elisabeth Blackwood well, she is probably the Catwoman with most story development and the better range of emotions
Ania Anula
i watched this movie THREE times in theaters, because of her and countless times after that on video and now on dvd.
Burton and most of all the studio should ve followed up on his plans for a catwoman movie with pfeiffer in the lead.
She really nailed the part and the character.
Instead we had to wait for years...and then got halle berry in one of her worst performances and in probably the worst movie about catwoman EVER!
3:17
What a music! Full of tragedy and empathy!
Danny Elfman outdid himself.
The soundtrack in this movie is amazing.
Never noticed that. I’ll have to watch this movie someday. Probably haven’t seen it in 30 years.
Am I the only one who feels really bad whenever she destroys her tiny little apartment? I love it. It looks so cute and cozy.
In most of the world this tiny little apartment has a family of 4 living in it
Yes
No, I felt bad when she destroyed her apartment so you’re not the only one.
As a kid I did but as an adult I understand But as an adult I understand it as a rejection of a life she's been forced to live.
Yeah, I think it’s supposed to make you feel that way. Like her innocence is gone and it doesn’t feel good to watch.
"i don't know about you, miss kitty, but i feel so much yummier."
ICONIC.
My favorite moment, literally it's the climax!!! 🤐🙃😉🤩
YESSS
Right! Eff trying to suck up to my boss.. im owning alll of my womanhood for myslef and own desire.

Mythbusters: Can you make a whole catsuit out of one latex jacket?
You can if you have that awesome body....
Another big question, can you make one on the fly without so much as a cutting pattern or blueprint?
Depends how big the jacket is
@@MrRufioooo she couldn't breathe in the suit
I mean no...but...kinda..you just need to get pushed
This psychotic break (acting, music, direction, etc...) is one of the most relatable moments in cinema history to me.
That is the genius of Michelle. :)
This is a pretty bad ass scene for all the reasons you mentioned.
This scene is amazing, i just recently rewatched catwoman scenes and in fact every scene with catwoman is amazing, her acting is top class to say the least.
I'd love to get your comments on my catwoman video ua-cam.com/video/IQo6FYa3bkc/v-deo.html
Agreed. I had a very similar breakdown after a traumatic experience last year. The shock before the snap is pretty accurate too.
He seems weary and confused, and in his actions he unconsciously follows scripts that he may have learned from the movies, or on the news..." - Roger Ebert, from his review of "Falling Down"
These words describe what makes Tim Burton and Michelle Pfeiffer's treatment of Catwoman so unique.
I adore her scream too!!!
Yeah it was so real...

I love how Tim Burton put some supernatural in this movie, Batman doesn't need to be all realistic everytime, he made his version and for me it's a great movie, Michelle Pfeiffer is the best catwoman in live actions!

i love catwoman. i dont know why people make such a big deal about harley quinn yes Margot Robbie is gorgeous but cmon catwoman was just amazing.
Lydia Royal people are making a big deal about Harley quinn now because she was just in a movie the last cat women was in a movie was 2005. Like use common sense.
Avery Madison jesus sorry my common sense is not up to your standards. but i get ur point.
Avery Madison no. whats childish is that u decide to be rude about it.
3:09--Selina thinks, "Black leather...perfect!"

What I love about this movie is how it went FULL Burton. The first one had more of a "noir" type of vibe and maybe that was to just keep it safe but after the success of the first movie the studios just said "okay go full gothic burton in the next one". one of the best sequels ever and a beautiful looking film as well.
One of the Best Scenes from one of the Best Characters of ALL TIME!!
Michelle Pfeiffer
was and will stay the best catwoman ever.. She was really possessed with a cat soul.. the rest they were just sad extras.
Nadia7474 could not agree more. She is the best cat woman ever, even better than Eartha Kitt. And I love Eartha. Pfeiffer breaks your heart and makes vengeance deliciously seductive.
She’s the one and only Catwoman IMO
But in the actual comics, Selina Kyle is not possesed by a cat's soul. She just is very skilled in martial arts, gymnastic and super intelligent.
Gc Liew True thank you for your comment.. but I was referring to how Pfeiffer was really committed to the cat woman role as if she is possessed with a cat soul
True no one better then her in her prime
Only Tim Burton can give a horror scene to a superhero movie 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sam Raimi gave Doc Ock a horror scene in Spiderman 2, it being the hospital.
Season Springle Also that final fight in Spiderman 1 lol
Sam Raimi goes full Evil Dead in Spider man 2 (and it was glorious)
And James Wan like he did with the Trench monsters in Aquaman.
The Joker it kinda has horror in it tbh
The best fight of all DC movies: Selina Kyle vs Apartment.
Michelle Pfieffer's performance as catwoman is ICONIC. She should have been nominated for an oscar for this role.
I just pissed myself laughing.
You must've been stoned out of your mind, saying such blasphemy... lolololol
Paul I recon Anne Hathaway did better
Oh please, Anne's costume wasnt even on-point, and her acting made it look like she was trying too hard to be "Catwoman".
