When I saw this at the movies my dad was so in love with her and a little buzzed he said "Two tickets to see Michelle Pfeiffer." The teenager was so thrown I had to say "Batman Returns please".
i watched this movie THREE times in theaters, because of her and countless times after that on video and now on dvd. Burton and most of all the studio should ve followed up on his plans for a catwoman movie with pfeiffer in the lead. She really nailed the part and the character. Instead we had to wait for years...and then got halle berry in one of her worst performances and in probably the worst movie about catwoman EVER!

The whole "One Bad Day" thing is BS anyways. Even Joker himself had to be going through a lot of stuff long before his "One Bad Day" thing to drive him mad.
@@sahil47 That means that the "One Bad Day" thing is just the straw that broke the camel's back. Not one bad day that destroys a perfectly normal person.
only Tim Burton can capture the insanity trauma of Batman villains with the eerie violins signaling the twisted mind from someone who just got back from a major traumatic event, everyday routines become more unorganized until you hear or see the one thing or person that caused you that heavy trauma, you start to melt down into insanity, your mind shatters from a once happy go-lucky person with light to a sad and traumatized individual with darker, twisted thoughts, moving away from playing with your toys to mature video games, nostalgia music as a kid to eerie instrumentals and songs that defies your newer self, you don't want to talk to your friends and family, the event made you quiet, you burst out with anger and profanity, you get these uncontrollable urges to hurt someone
I feel like in modern superhero movies the actors are trying SO HARD to be funny, shiny, entertaining, memorable... And in 1980s the actors were actually acting.
Miss Kitty: Yeah, yeah. It was you decided to turn up and SET IT OFF up in this bitch. Good luck getting that deposit on this now hell hole back! Time to own it and kill that muthafucka Shreck, girl! Show that bitch you ain't that little girl anymore!
This is just what I was thinking of. Why in 1996-97 did I liked this VERSION of Batman? This is the creepiest of them all before they made the Joker with (... Cannot remember his name... Its 4h am lol) I prefer the Catwoman movie with Hale Berry so far. Compare to this side of "Cat Woman" for something similar, i prefer the FIRST VERSION of it in the DC Comic original Comic Book.
Such a classic, but Michelle Pfeifer really sells the mental breakdown, as well as her Catwoman character. She was such a great actress in this movie, very underrated. This movie despite it's limitation is still better than many of the movies that followed.
All the details and symbolism, from the pink color flat to the kitty sleep-shirt, the doll house, the toys, to how she uses her kiddie sewing machine and thimbles to make her costume ... you wouldn't see this in a superhero movie nowadays. This is why the Burton Batman movies will always be the best. They're the most lovingly made.
This scene alone is a good reason why Tim Burton’s Batman will always remain undefeated. Even with limited technology/effects, we were mesmerized by these characters.
The way she slowly starts to lose it until she snaps, all the pure nonesense she does to show her madness, how the room fills with cats the crazier she gets. Hands down one of the best scenes in the movie. Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie, next to The Dark Knight. Can't wait to see how The Batman turns out!
agreed, there will never be a better catwoman, not ever. behind the scenes footage shows she was so committed to this role, she did what very few actresses would do or are capable of doing. her performance here is permanently etched in my mind...
Oh suuuuuure... when SHE does it it's an 'origin story' but when I do it it's a "weekly mental breakdown"... Re: Oh, now. Clearly just a lighthearted joke. Lets not get so messy, lads.😂
In this one's case, it was the realisation that what people called "innocence" was actually the willing discarding of agency, and that the vile would always gravitate towards such people, believing them to be weak, prey to be consumed or thrown away. Catwoman realised that she only had this one road left to her - to become one of the true movers and shakers of the town. Not the politicians, and certainly not that odious Schreck.
Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance in this movie was amazing! She brought so much nuance and raw emotional power to the character. This scene is a perfect example, where she says so much with barely any dialogue. Too bad most people these days only seem to remember her for her costume (which was awesome, don’t get me wrong), when there was so much more to her. Best Catwoman ever!
"You can call me...Joker. And as you can see, I'm a lot happier." "I don't know about you, Miss Kitty, but I feel so much yummier." The Tim Burton Batman movies: demonstrating that what doesn't kill you makes you stranger.
The more we age, the more we get to understand the facts that summoned the catwoman inside her... Adults confront different problems than children. And Selina Kyles cup just overflowed....
Nadia7474 could not agree more. She is the best cat woman ever, even better than Eartha Kitt. And I love Eartha. Pfeiffer breaks your heart and makes vengeance deliciously seductive.
Gc Liew True thank you for your comment.. but I was referring to how Pfeiffer was really committed to the cat woman role as if she is possessed with a cat soul
My favorite part is how she sits down to her sewing machine with an obvious head injury, and is able to make a perfectly fitting bodysuit without so much as a single toile or pattern piece and it comes out perfectly the first time. Skills! X-D
Hey, when you set out to kill your Boss who pushed you out of a window.... there is zero room for screwups.... You gotta sew the latex/leather body suit right on the 1st try, or you're never gonna find enough time to blow up the SHREK department store, lol. 😸
The most iconic catwoman ever! We need a catwoman film with a gritty, rough aesthetic and a dark story for more of a adult audience similar to the recent joker film. I think it could really do well with the right director and actors!! Come on WB! A catwoman stand alone film is well over due now!
I think a good Catwoman movie would absolutely crush at the box office. I think if you do it right, it could be a hugely cathartic movie for female audiences.
Think about this: she hit her head so incredibly hard when she was pushed out of the window. The cats didn’t have anything to do with her coming back to life. She survived because of the canopies she hit on her way down, and sheer will. She becomes an entirely different person, and realizes the old her is dead. She is a cat person so that was always in her. Poor Selina has undergone a horrible head injury and has gone completely insane. If she has sewing gear she can obviously sew. It’s a fantasy movie so of course she can make a whole outfit out of a jacket. Incredible acting by Michelle, and epic amazing score by Elfman
I like to imagine that Penguin polluted the sewer supply before Selina “died”, and stray cats who often go into the sewers, were infected in an odd way. When they bit her and scratched her up, she was introduced to the toxic waste, and that went to her head. Kind of like an effed up version of Spiderman’s origin
I never viewed her as the villain. I felt bad for her. They wrote her so brilliantly. She went nuts, BUT you understood why. She is completely relatable. Fantastic performance!!
its amazing how over the years there has been repeated portrayals of other comic book heroes and villains which are fairly decent but no one seems to be able to portray a lovable cat woman after michelle pfeiffer
Completing a leather body suit from scratch in a few hours while having a mental breakdown is quite impressive. If this Cat Woman business doesn't pan out then she can always compete on Project Runway😂
I love how Tim Burton put some supernatural in this movie, Batman doesn't need to be all realistic everytime, he made his version and for me it's a great movie, Michelle Pfeiffer is the best catwoman in live actions!
This movie reminds me of a time when finding the right actor w/skills to play a part was more important than CGI especially when the tech was not around
@@Joela393 well yes and no. The problem is that in today's world they focus way too much on CGI/special effects. It's getting too flashy for my taste. I like the saying "less is more".
Why Michelle Pfeiffer rendition of catwoman was brilliant, because the director gave her space to interpretate and chance for michelle to show her acting skills. Anne Hathaway is a good actress, but cat woman in anne's part just showing the viewer what cat woman already was. While Michelle can be considered lucky to portrayed the birth of the cat woman. Hence making michelle's performance as a quite high benchmark for cat woman.
I actually loved Tim Burton's version of Catwoman. Giving her a supernatural element was awesome! Made her MUCH more interesting as a character. Loved her transformation. Her literal (and figurative) death as Selina Kyle and rebirth as Catwoman. Tragic but beautiful at the same time. THIS was the best version of Catwoman (in my opinion). Simply ICONIC.
Yes! This has been and always will be my favorite version of Catwoman. If you ask me, The Animated Series version, Anne Hathaway, Zoë Kravitz and even the comic book version of Catwoman can’t hold a candle to this one. Here, we get to see Selina Kyle completely break down mentally and make us understand why she is the way she is. Also, Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance as Catwoman is the best (and sexiest). 😉
Lydia Royal people are making a big deal about Harley quinn now because she was just in a movie the last cat women was in a movie was 2005. Like use common sense.
Lydia Royal Right on sister! This was character creation as pure and true as possible! Margo as Harley was cool but no heart and feeling like this. No true to form of the characters like this. Just cheap thrills unlike their comic counterparts . Sorry you got insulted too, I did awhile ago and I was agreeing with the dude. You just can't control people getting childhood rage out on strangers. But everyones entitled to thier opinion I suppose.
Raven Black It's not rage when I'm stating a fact. This has nothing to do with Margo Robbie. The reason people are talking about Harley Quinn and not catwomen is because Harley was in a popular movie recently. If you think me stating facts is childish then I don't know what to tell you.
Realizing the world is a piece of shit and everyone and everything standing her way can fuck themselves. I can totally relate to that. Last year was the final straw that I got fed up with humanity. All the hard work, effort, time, energy to be as "normal" as possible in order to be hired in the education system taken away time after time given to someone else who has no qualification, but is the friend, child, parent, cousin of someone within the system. I got tired of it all. Plus being in a family who basically everyone doesn't put any amount of effort or time to advance themselves but expects me to? No wonder this has always been my favorite scene of any Batman movie. Personally, I think she always had that in her. She just needed to be pushed out of a window to let her Autism take over and embrace it all.
@Joseph - Thank you Joseph. At least someone understands. However we're wasting our time trying to explain the realities of life with foofoo- heads who are too naive to see the truth. That's ultimately what is wrong with humans... One can't even talk about anything about the truth anymore, especially not about society and it's stupidity. Yet people wonder why today's youth are so suicidal, angry and even nihilistic? They aren't allowed to talk about how they truly feel. I feel sorry for them having to be forced to bottle it all up and act as if it doesn't exist till it turns into cancer, ulcers, polyps, or some other bodily disease or disorder. Again no point trying to explain the truth to people, let them wallow in their naive optimism. Some people are born luckier than others. God forbid something goes wrong for them.. How far they would all fall from. Thank you again Joseph.
Juci Shockwave I agree with you! I am a very nice, friendly person to EVERYONE and I use to be so naive thinking the rest of the world would be kind back just as long as I continue to be kind and I learned that wasn’t the case, the hard way. A lot of people instead thought that I was “too nice” and can’t even count how many times it got me taken advantage of. There is nothing wrong with being kind but most people don’t deserve it bc when they have it they don’t appreciate but abuse it instead. Humanity is a joke. I had to face reality 2012 and finally lost hope 2018. I’m still a good person but I like animals more 💜
@@LadyCoyKoi Did you leave the education/teaching system? It sounds like you encountered a heck of a lo of nepotism there, and have a lot of narcissists in your family of origin or amongst t your relatives. I don't work in the education system. In fact, I grew up with both parents working in it and that decided me from a very early age to avoid the area, not due to nepotism per se but the amount of work expected by teachers for very little recompense and more and more students behaving badly and teachers being expected to not just tolerate it but act as surrogate parents yet they don't have the real authority to do so, so they're frequently the targets of vitriol and abuse and have little hey can do in response that's legal. However, on a personal level, I can relate to the second situation, that of family members who are narcissistic and tend to expect the scapegoat to take 'on board' their projections of reality and to achieve far beyond what they are capable of but nevertheless the narcissists don't acknowledge the achievements nor the decency of the scapegoat. That is enough to make one rather cynical and not inclined to tolerate people trying to push one's personal boundaries any more, something one used to do.
Michelle Pfeiffer performed outstandingly as Catwoman, she was a sexy, wild and brutal badass. I don't think any other actress can perform Catwoman as well as she does.
Everyone loses their innocence.
No one is spared.
Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance in this movie was amazing! She brought so much nuance and raw emotional power to the character. Well the movie "Cats" bombed so it's unlikely they'll make a Catwoman film anytime soon
Plus that god awful mess in 2004.
Selina in TV series Gotham was brilliant too
I think a good Catwoman movie would absolutely crush at the box office. I think if you do it right, it could be a hugely cathartic movie for female audiences.
Can’t possibly be worse than Captain Marvel

It's not bad. But I prefer the version of cats giving her cat powers
When I first saw this as a child. I always thought she got cat powers just because the cats bit her.

Raven Black It's not rage when I'm stating a fact. This has nothing to do with Margo Robbie. The reason people are talking about Harley Quinn and not catwomen is because Harley was in a popular movie recently. If you think me stating facts is childish then I don't know what to tell you.
Avery Madison no. whats childish is that u decide to be rude about it.
A symbol of her destroying her innocence and coming out of being naive and New beautiful scene
Juci Shockwave ...The fuck is wrong with you?
