Actors so concerned with portraying the Joker properly and I'm over here like no one has been able to better do Catwoman justice since this film.
Really? What was so bad about Anne Hathaway?
@@charleyhill9867 Oh please. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!
@@aldan1694 I guess. If you like campy
@@charleyhill9867 lmao she didnt do a thing in that movie, she gets way too much damn credit for being the black widow of the DC universe, in a sexy black suit to do nothing.
@@charleyhill9867 bruh I bet you JUST learned what campy even means in that context lol.
Wait so she created the entire suit out of only that leather jacket? Talk about DIY Queen🤣
How though, I’m no seamstress but it doesn’t seem possible
@@joedickinson6566 realistically its not possible since the jacket is too small to cover her whole body but obviously the movie wants us to think she just tripped her jacket apart and sewed it by herself, hence the white thread from cut pieces of the jacket sewn in.
I believe she just had more of these jackets.
I thought she had more jackets or even pants she added in later to put the lines on. It'd be true talent to use just the jacket. I suppose it'd be possible to a degree if it were one of those fancy long jackets. I have no clue. 😂😂😂
actually was raincoat but still impossible!! lol
Such a pyschotic but masterful performance by Michelle Pfeifer

Yes exceptional performance.
Imagine Tim Burton’s Harley Quinn.
I thought for a sec THAT was her in the screen cap for this vid LOL!
Omg my bb!!!!
Why has this not been DONE YET?!
That would be lovely 😩
That would be fantastic
I’ve always loved the contrast between her going to her apartment after work, and after ‘dying’.
When she says “Honey I’m home.. oh wait, I’m not married” for the first time, it’s a tongue in cheek comment on her part about how she’s lonely. The second time, it’s more like she’s actually quite depressed about that fact.
Super interesting portrayal of Selina Kyle!

Magrathea true on the goals part.
Most cosplayers in a nutshell
Just as Danny DeVito is the perfect Penguin, Michelle Pfeiffer is the perfect Catwoman. Period.
You're godamn right!!
Yes ceaser Romero was the perfect joker too
Same with batman and joker! Everyone was perfect in this movie. Period.
Michelle is the perfect modern Catwoman, while Eartha Kitt was the perfect original campy Catwoman
Raziel yeah but she’s not the original. She’s the second catwoman.
This scene scared me so much when i was a kid and watched it first time. Its like werewolf transformation, but without any actual shapeshifting - only thing that changing is her broken mind
Well said. And I can admit feeling the same as a kid. This is just... Terrifying. She finally snapped. And even more scary is that this can and has happened to people. She went from -1 to 100. Over a small period of time changing from Selina Kyle, into the Catwoman. With pain, destruction, anger and sadness. Like a werewolf.
@@minihalkoja590 I've heard some say that people don't go from 1-100, they've just been at 99 for too long.

not deep. its good directing and symbolism.
THIJS Wiertje that says a lot about our society
All I can think when I watch this scene is that I want to have those neon letters in my bedroom.
I find it very depressing, when she’s destroying her own apartment and her toys at the same time.
Why?
tall32guy because, she’s going crazy 😝 as Catwoman.
Nathan Cruz haha. That's not depressing! It's camp and almost exciting, to me! Lol
tall32guy 👌🏻
Watching it as a child disturbed me but now I'm an adult I understand it a bit more lol
Notice how the camera isnt moving around like crazy and theres very little cuts to different angles. The shot is held much longer than in movies today. Now its so annoying seems like they try and get as many angles and jump cuts into a scene when only 2 would of been necessary. The constant moving of the camera makes it hard for our brains to absorb what were seeing and really feel like were there. Like the part wheres shes drinking the milk. That shot holds for around 30 seconds. Unheard of in action/superhero films today.
Completely agree.
They're not confident in their performers. Lord knows Anne could have held her own though.
People have the attention span of a retarded goldfish with one flipper
Tell that to 1917. Not a superhero film but the whole film is a shot.
SVS Productions People don't have the attention span anymore, hence why the past few decades they've abused the shake-y cam type shit more and more. But not surprising people have no attention span when they are obsessed with shit like vine and tiktok lol.
Forever my favourite Selina Kyle/Catwoman, no one has embodied both sides of her so perfectly. Michelle really portrayed Selina's spiral from a repressed, broken woman, to a dangerous, seductive, unhinged villainess with an undercurrent of vulnerability and a desire for a happy life.
I feel like part of that might be because Selina is so often written as cat burglar with extra flair. Hard to really do a lot with a character given so little story, many works just have her have grown up poor and this stealing to survive.
Except prob eartha kitt
No cats were psychologically traumatized during the filming of this scene.
No! You lie! You lie!!!!!!
7 y/o me on the other hand? Deeply.
"Honey, i'm home"
"Oh i forgot, i'm not married" XD
I especially love how earlier she said, "oh, I forgot, we're not married." But you never see the guy she was supposedly talking to and you realize she was crazy all along.

Michelle Pfeifer delivered one of her best performances when she played the part of the catwoman. She is the best catwoman ever!
No one has been able to come close!
Trueeeee!!! Iconic
totally agreed, she is born for this role.
This is one of the first movies that I remember giving me nightmares as a child. Tim Burton really went much darker with the sequel in every possible way. I understand that this movie may not people some peoples cup of tea, but I just love it so much, specifically for Michelle Pfeiffer’s brilliant performance.
Adam Taucher because of the nostalgia factor, it edges out The Dark Knight as my favorite Batman movie- it’s just so good and Michelle Pfeiffer should’ve been a double nominee at the Oscars that year.
Zane Fannin I wholeheartedly agree. One of the examples of a time where the nomination was more than deserved but wasn’t given because of the genre. There is a reason Michelle’s performance is still regarded as the most iconic interpretation of Catwoman to this very day.
Adam Taucher Exactly! Frankly I wish more interpretations would go with the unhinged Selina Kyle!
Zane Fannin I think it’s a really neat take on the character. Obviously I think moving forward they should stray from the more insane aspects of the character that Michelle brought to the table, but a small hint of unhinged is perfect for me.
“Hell Here” is honestly one of the best uses of text in film EVER!!!!!
She should have gotten an Oscar for her performance.
I love all the symbolism going on in this particular scene. I think this scene alone makes the entire movie for me. Definitely my favorite Batman movie specifically for her portrayal of cat woman in this movie. The first one was good, but Michelle just sells this movie for me. Danny was amazing, too, but Michelle is just the entire story for me. You see her as meek and frail, then this scene where she finds her inner darkness and destroys her toys (I believe this represents self destruction of her innocence, or perhaps an allusion to rape because she feels her innocence was forcibly taken from her). It’s a really powerful moment and really sets up her character development perfectly
I never noticed that before, about the toys. I do know that the light pink in her apartment is supposed to represent her repressed femininity. And the stitches in her costume, it represents how she's stitching herself back together after being torn apart. When you see the stitches start to rip open as the film goes on, that's her coming undone all over again.
damn you should be a film critic
Gene you said it perfectly here.
avril peters I know right.
This shows how Tim Burton is a great filmmaker and how deep and sad and emotional and dark the Batman stories are this is probably why the Michael Keaton Batman movies are my favorite because all the main characters and antagonists have some messed up tragic backstory except for Jack he’s just a monster
I know this version of Catwoman is very different from the comics, but I really like the idea that the cats literally breathed new life into her and granted her nine lives and other catlike abilities. This movie has a dark fairy tale vibe, and I think this idea goes well with the tone and is more interesting than her just being a cat burglar with a whip.
well somebody's not getting their security deposit back.😂
Given how she had bathed the entire place in pink, i doubt that was still an option anyway
I think her breakdown and descent into madness and into catwoman is just very underrated. I think she did a fantastic job
I feel kinda bad for her. The music and her psychotic sorrow make the scene a little sad.
Like Joker said it takes one day to become insane
If you're weak willed enough yes
@Mikhail The Greatest Dragon What he meant was one very bad day. The thing that finally pushes one over the edge. For Joker (in The Killing Joke) he was failing, in debt, desperate and the final straw was becoming scarred, deformed and losing his wife and unborn child.
That’d be enough to drive me insane. Same for being a lonely failing secretary (assistant!) who was just almost killed by their own boss.
@@minihalkoja590
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying that weak willed folks like Selina's mousy self are especially applicable to this
Someone Is here yep, only the very strong willed made it past one bad day in Gotham. Commissioner Gordon had his one bad day when Joker tortured him and shows him pictures of him crippling Barbara Gordon, but Commisioner Gordon refused to let himself become a super villain.
Awesome
It's like she rejected all form of innocence
When you’re on your period and everything’s annoying XD
Lucky I'm a man and don't know about that
Lol if you’re a man you should know 🤣
how the fuck would u know. u are a man
I’m just saying calm down lol. If you have siblings or a significant others you should know how they feel and act jeez...
CyberNostalgia haha that was me two weeks ago, except I didn’t destroy everything I owned😅 just went outside and ran with my dog until I calmed down
And just like that, a hauntingly gorgeous demon was born.
When I was a kid I freaked out, because I thought for some reason that she sowed the costume into her skin, and I remember running away to process that thought wondering how I was going to sleep that night. Lol
Well it does look like that at first glance, and the way she fits on the glove kinda reinforces that ”illusion”.
When you have the cuteness of cats bring you back to life
One of them was trying to eat her finger.
@@xdragoonzero0 was that the case or was it trying to wake her with a pain response? Idk.
@@PrettyH8Mach1n3 I mean overall I think it seemed like the cats were worried/stressed, and it could possibly be a way to wake her, or like, the bite is giving her, uh, cat powers you could say
The BEST catwoman. She went all camp on this character, Love it.
@Maori Boy camp in a good way. The sequels were goofy. I loved how she used the vulnerability people perceived in her and used it against them. She did things for herself, her own agenda.
@Maori Boy This was camp, just Burton's Gothic Camp
Indeed
The narrative: Turns into Cat Woman
The reality: gets covered in cat piss.
And has face chew upon by hungry stray cats. True story.
Everyone talk's about how good Pfeiffer's performance was, but the cat at 2:30 totally steals the show.
"o sry I see ur going thru it"
Pure Tim Burton
Pure Danny Elfman
Only Michelle Pfeiffer could’ve pulled it off so beautifully
This is such a great origin scene for Catwoman. Tells you everything you need to know about the character in 5 minutes.
More development than Anne Hathoway's catwoman during the entire Dark Knight Rises movie.
Sailor Mercury I actually enjoyed Anne Hathaway’s version
@Sailor Mercury ...sigh... By this date, no movie ever told her origins correctly or nowhere near something similar. This is the worst origin scene for Catwoman (cult really) because it attempts to fable it, when her origins are by far nothing to do with falling then waking up like some crazy b out of the blue. It is juvenile, immature, boring. People just love villains acting like b because people are repressed. She totally deserves real origins on movies.
@@Demaad why? She didnt do a god damn thing, you people enjoy a character just because someone fucking told you to, if they told you to hate her in the beginning youd be singing that tune.

I don't think she died, she felt and lost conscious, probably also hurt her brain. And she loved cats so she went crazy for this topic
@@odn4502 hahaha 😂 same
It didn't give her cat powers
By FAR the best catwoman. Listen to that music, these actors were just on another level. the 1989 film and batman returns are still the best.
This is so sad. Her whole house is pink, cute, and frilly. This is what she really is. She's naive, shy, sweet, innocent, child-like, trusting, and kind. But when she starts losing her mind she starts destroying her home, like she hates who she is. She's really a good woman in need of understanding and unconditional love (this is what the color pink means and represents), but the cruelty of her boss and rejection from others, not to mention her crippling loneliness created something ugly.
Looking back now after all these years and different Batman movies and series, Michelle Pfeiffer was the best Catwoman by far!
From all the Batman movies, this is one of the most memorable moments
Everything was fine until that stupid perfume advertisement... kinda.
Everything was okay until the repeating ads of foodpanda on youtube...meowww!
Her boss pushed her out the window. Her boss didn't treat her right.
🤣🤣🤣
It was a lot more than that. The
perfume ad reminded her of her sleazy boss who tries to come across like a decent person when
he's actually anything but.
Not to mention the said ad's
scenario after her rebirth.
Did anyone notice her breathing
intensified during the said add?
He'd just callously shoved her
out a window over something
stupid, acting like it was an
accident later on and then the
perfume ad shoves a date
scenario with her and said boss in
her face? Now , I'm not a shoot
the messenger person, but I can
understand that being her trigger.
After years of being pushed
around and just taking it she
finally snapped.
Yes, the destruction showed
her symbolically shedding her
innocence, but I think the
perfume ad was the last straw
and she became hell-bent on
revenge as well.
I can relate to this scenario for
many reasons and have a
similarly socially awkward past.
Amazingly though, I haven't
become criminally insane
...yet. Not that I want to, but I've
dealt with my share of being
pushed around over being too
generous and vulnerable, quite
often with the wrong crowd
and sometimes I too wanna
snap!
Just more food for thought and
my take on the scene.
No *anyone* would eventually break.
Writer: How many origins story you want to have Tim?
Tim Burton:YESSSS!!!!!
Hands-down the best cat woman ever. She’s such a complex character she needs her own movie redone properly.
It's creepy how the cats are eating her .... Shudders.
That's actually realistic because your pet will eat you if you die. Face first since that's where all the soft cartilage are.
What do you think happens to old cat ladies??
It's a radioactive cat...
It is a weird part of the scene
I agree, but I like how after
her eyes reopen, one cat meows like, ' she's awake, let's go!'
I also wonder how much of
this apartment scene was
scripted or if Tim B just
let her improvise w/ most of it.
It looks like that's exactly
what she did, and no I'm not
downplaying her trauma or
even this scene, just very
observant, more so nowadays
than in my childhood and
teen years, long story.
Man this scene I can tell you never gets old. I love their choice not to show the full suit at the end, but just a silhouette.

@Daniel Olortegui sometimes the comic book versions of the characters are more boring and sometimes those in the movies are worse . For instance Nolan had a way to make some of the characters more boring than than in the comics .
@Daniel Olortegui it wasn't just Catwoman though , even Ra's and Scarecrow allthough well acted tended to be more boring in Nolan's films than their comic book counterpart .

I’m more impressed by the fact they managed to train cats to do these scenes
They actually covered Michelle with Tuna fish so that the cats would swarm her
You can train cats. It's definitely possible. Lots of love and patience but it can be done.
I liked these Batman films by Tim Burton because they were so over the top and wacky and fun. Saw them on the big screen. They felt like comic books, they looked just right. Tim got appropriate people involved-- the perfect actors, designers, wardrobe crew, prop and set artists, musicians like Danny Elfman ... it all works. The look and vibe is completely unbelievable and delightful and out there on the edge. For me, this world is even better than the wholesome comics from the early 20th century that inspired it. This Gotham City is something else; I wouldn't wanna live there-- but a short visit sure is loads of fun.
Also, part of this scene would have made a fantastic commercial for the "Got Milk?" campaign. :D
An all pink appartment. It looks great with the neon too. I gotta try that out.
Also, RIP to the teddybears who got murdered in the sink.
I was 12 when this came out and I've never seen anyone, anything, so much YUMMIER

what's cool about Michelle is she has a sultry purr to her tone of voice without having to purr which is very very good
I absolutely LOVE Elfman's music for her in this movie. It was great hearing callbacks to it in The Batman's score with those shrill violins.
The breakdown and the transformation are unforgettable! We love you, Michelle Pfeiffer!
And in this moment I realized I wanted to be a Bad Bitch when I grew up 😻
she makes crazy look 10x sexier than Margot Robbie did with Harley....
Both did their characters justice and lemme tell you, she was annoyed at the first Suicide Squad dumbing down the character as anyone else. She did all her own stunts. Please don't use one amazing woman to bludgeon another for creative decisions out of their control.
@@psionichelmsman EXACTLY. They are both fantastic in their own right.
Also because she was meant to be “crazy” before she put on the suit. It was SUPPOSED to be a breakdown. They don’t let Harley breakdown she’s supposed to be sexy whiles she’s crazy. It’s called bad writing and no character development.
Anyone else catching how disconnected from reality she looks at 4:13 when running the sewing machine?
She already was a crazy cat lady, so this is just natural progression.

I’d kill for Michelle’s bone structure, I really would.
drnkendramaqueen I mean there just bones 😂
Why kill? There's surgery for bone implants (or bone equivalent for plastic surgery that isn't structurally important) that can do it.
Imight Realperson figure of speech
I like the primal element of this version of Catwoman. Cats passing their skills to a human, seems very totemistic and ancient.
I do too; that's the one thing I feel Tim missed out on with this movie. He never really fully decided if she was supernatural or just lucky and he ended up splitting it down the middle. Honestly it makes more sense if she was supernatural. Largely due to the fact she admitted she was jealous of Miss Kitty and her freedom in her first apartment scene. That shoulda been her Faustian moment of no return, as dark as it is. I'll give the 2004 Catwoman movie credit they tried hard but they ruined it so badly. It's a shame we never got a movie in the 90's that coulda had Michelle and explained it more.
I found out in 2004 Catwoman movie when Halle berry went to the old lady’s house and the old lady revealed to her that she(Halle) was a Catwoman, the lady showed her pics of different Catwoman and there was a pic of Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfiefer)amongst them.
So I’m guessing it was supernatural.
I remember bits and pieces of this movie, and I have to say, I love it.
The best Catwoman ever. No-one comes even close to Pfeiffer's performance
