    I just did this repair a week ago and used your video as guidance. I
    Posted a comment but I didn’t see it so I’ll try again.
    Definitely a bugger getting the hose clamps off! And don’t forget to re install the dip stick 😂. Any way I used a febi bilstein housing hopefully it holds up . Great content for us diy and new to tdi guys, 😊 thanks !

      Glad it helped, some are positioned perfectly and some they must’ve been laughing at the factory knowing how much of a pain it’ll be to get at once in the car. I’ve used febi mostly with hood luck, I’d like to try the aluminum version if anyone can keep it in stock.

    Well Josh.... yet another perfect video to show me what I need to do. CKRA sprung a coolant leak and it turned out to be the housing..... this will be the third time you have guided me thru a repair! thanks!

    Thanks for making this. I’d like to add that a set of the spring clamp pliers made this so much easier. I ended up pulling my radiator fans for the one pita hosed on the inter cooler. I was already deleted beforehand, and I replaced the EGR valve with the darkside race pipe at the same time. Keep in mind people that the torque on the oil filter cap is only 25nm. I know that’s why I had to do mine! About 2500 miles after my last oil change is when my leak started. Also follow the video on putting the inter cooler back on! I was making that a lot more difficult than it was.

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  Рік тому +1

      The spring pliers are awesome sometimes but more of a pain sometimes as well, they’ve got their place. I think that’s one of the main issues is over tightening the cap as well as heat cycles.

      @@JoshsJettas for sure, mainly for the few clamps up top. I just passed 163k in my Passat. For the sake of science, filter changes will be with a torque wrench only. We’ll see if I get another 160k out of the replacement housing!

    Nice video. Clear instruction and common sense. Have a 2013 Passat tdi with a coolant leak. Unsure exactly where it’s coming from but it’s in this general area. Could be thermostat housing or this oil cooler assembly. Going to tear down and hopefully see a smoking gun as you did here.

    Wish this video was made year ago. Didn't know what I was doing. I overtorque first housing and separated the housing from the bolts. Five mins down the road and oil was gushing out. And only coolant was lubricating my engine. 5 oil changes later and finally got all the coolant out. Worse day of my life. And had to wait 2 weeks on new oil housing.

      Oh wow did the spacers get crushed and break the plastic? I wouldn’t of thought it’d happen easily.
      It can be a mess trying to get all the proper fluid clean and back where it belongs after it’s been mixed like that.

    У меня тоже была такая беда. Частая проблема именно на tdi passat nms. У нескольких друзей тоже случалась эта поломка. Развалилась стенка корпуса фильтра в месте соприкосновения с блоком двигателя и во время поездки начала сигнализировать лампочка низкого уровня антифриза. Ставил аналог Nissens (в сборе с теплообменником), но пришлось также поменять антифриз (на всякий случай) и масло в двигателе так как при сливе масла с мотора было замечено грамм 20 антифриза.

    I just got my aluminum house from fpc euro. It looks like very good quality. Getting ready to do a timing belt and while the coolant is drained I want to swap out the cooler and filter base before I end up with a problem. Looks like I should be able to do both in a day.

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  4 місяці тому

      Yup, if it’s the first time doing both I’d figure on a longer day, belts 3-4 hours, filter housing 2-4 depending on how the clamps go

      @JoshsJettas yeah, I am a semi truck mechanic. Working on little cars is tough for me. But I have been wrenching for nearly 30 years. Not so fast anymore. Last weekend I pulled both cv axles, cleaned out the old grease, went back together with new grease and boots. Took me 7.5 hours before I had the tools put back away. But all is good now. I watched a few videos on the timing belt. Looks like it will take me awhile, but it looks like the belt kit and the filter housing I should be able to handle in 8 hours or so on a Saturday. If it takes me a little more that's OK too. Just want to be able to do it in a day to be able to drive it home that night.

      You’ll be set then, I work on farm equipment full time. It’s all just nuts and bolts at the end of the day (some are just harder to get to)

    • @poellot
      @poellot 4 місяці тому

      @JoshsJettas took me 9.5 hours. But pretty close to an hour of it was checking the timing 4 times, rewatching videos, and rereading the manual. The oil filter housing wasn't bad, until I was all done an had an oil leak. I used the oem filter cover and a filter I just installed last weekend. I don't know if it was because the oring was reused, it looked fine. But that took me an additional hour and a half to find exactly what was leaking and make sure it was not after installing the new cap that came with the housing . I was very worried after seeing oil running down the housing I just installed.

    Thanks Josh for the video ! I have an oil cooler housing leak, but oil is in my coolant reservoir ( full of black oil). While taking the air box off I saw oil all under it on back side, also look like some in the air filter hose and bottom hose looks soaked. Will an oil cooler housing leak cause all that ? How can I safely clean of that oil too ? Thanks

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  Місяць тому

      It could, these swell from the heat im sure of it but over torqueing your oil filter will cause it to crack and I'd believe oil would leak out easily as well as cross contaminate. The reservoir might be hard to get clean (i usually replace when i do this on tractors), but they sell cleaners. Another option is fill the coolant system with water and dish washer detergent (washer detergent wont bubble like soap will but will still break down the oil). Flush flush and flush again, coolant hoses don't like oil.

    I have a 2014 JSW TDI that has a bad coolant leak on the front side of the engine. After looking around it appears to be leaking from the oil filter housing. I can only seem to find videos on replacements for the Passat, which is odd. Have you done one of these on the Jetta CJAA?

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  Рік тому +2

      The Passats are plastic which warps and leaks whereas the Jetta/golf/Beetle are traditional aluminum so they’re tougher. I just posted a video on doing the cjaa thermostat which gives a clear view of the filter housing. There’s a lot of hoses hanging off that thing.

    Thanks for the most excellent video. I played this video over and over while doing this repair. Ordered the part online and paid 1/5 the price from the dealer.
    I didn't have to remove the dipstick tube like you did. I did remove the plastic clip that held it into place. We did split the 3 way hose that went to the transmission cooler, the oil cooler, and the coolant pipe that goes across the head. It was $50 from the dealer, not bad. Most of my hoses were sealed on and VERY difficult to remove.
    Up next is the heater core. That is a great video as well.
    Any chance you've worked on the DPF system? Specifically issues with the tank related to the P205B code?

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  Рік тому +1

      It’s crazy the difference in price between dealers and online retailers. Those hoses sure get baked on there. The P205B is the def temperature sensor, either the def header has to be replaced or there’s a tdi club write up about on how to replace the sensor and splice in a thermistor.

      Hey send me an email to joshthring21@live.ca if you wish. The housing when it leaks seems to drop straight down and get caught by the oil pan diaper, if it’s a small one the coolant can get boiled off on the block causing white stains

      03L115389H is the oem part number, should come up with a febi part, your going to need the bolts as well, the page will recommend them near the bottom.
      There’s also a aluminum version coming out but that’s not until the end of next month so that doesn’t do you much good.

      @@JoshsJettas thanks I just picked it up had option to add bolts, I grabbed their oil change kit as well! I saw you quick info on coolant fill without vacuum, is that it there is no air release valve just fill over flow startup and warm up and fill as it goes in? How about the factory clamps ? Did you reuse those or go with the screw type on the coolant lines? How would you flush out intercooler? Thanx brother!

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  9 місяців тому

      @phytphyr yeah they bleed out pretty easy, fill it full and run it up to temp with the cap off, when the thermostat opens you’ll feel both hoses are warm and the coolant level should drop, top to the correct level and just keep an eye on it. The vacuum fill is just to save having to wait around.
      I re used them, people hate them but they are a constant tension clamp so they don’t get too tight or too loose.
      Soap and water is a good option, diesel is too but make sure it’s dry. Don’t use gas or brake clean as the vapours will make it run away.
