Those bolts are ABSOLUTELY the Triple Square bolts. I did the same thing as you did! Fortunately I was able to get 3 bolts out using a hex bolt. But I used a Dremel take the head off of the stripped bolt. I had to go to VW to buy new bolts as well. Wish I had seen your video before I started!! I finished this repair just this morning! No leaks so far!
Thanks a lot for your helpful video !!! I hope you got it fixed and taken care of? I have the same problem today when I was taking the oil filter housing out!! Because there’s a black oil in my coolant tank and no coolant in my oil ! So I’m hoping it’s the oil cooler! But I really need to take them two stripped bolts off 😢 Thanks again and God bless 😊
The oil is from the the crankcase venalation tube thats feed into the intake side, eventually oil will sit at the bottom of the intercooler which is normal for a vw diesel
It worked like a champ almost sent the kit back since i literally used it one bolt but worked so good i kept it! Thank u for the video! Also fixed my coolant leak. My TDI only has 97k on it too didnt even make 100
Thanks for the video. I would love to get my hands on a remote filter plate like you were talking about. I'm not sure why there is no aftermarket solution for the Passat Tdi.
6mm Triple square. They can be confusing even when you know what they are. Here is a tip for those watching. The bolts TTY meaning you do 40NM +90 degrees. They can't be used again. Love the idea of a remote cooler and filter. And NO PLASTIC!!!! Damn VW got cheap on us! And Delete the EGR, SCR, and DPF!
Definitely hate all that added garbage! I’m truly trying to figure out what the deal is with the air to water cooler as well. I can’t imagine running hot coolant through the inter cooler is efficient. I would think a conversion to a separate tank or an air to air would be better. That EGR sends so much soot and oil into the intake too. So nasty.
Jesus you stripped the spline bolts and went to very long way round the repair my man! I suggest replacing the crank position sensor whilst down there, 4mm hex head, no splines, VW hate mechanics. Edited! Should have kept my mouth shut! I used the m8 spline and they striped the bolts anyway!
@@makerbit3970 the splines on your bolts looked dry sharp, in a Scottish climate they fluff with rust, vice grips slipped off the bolts as its to soft. I ended up using a multitool to cut chunks of the plastic oil housing away, then had enough space for an angle grinder to cut through the bolts heads, it slipped right off, the bolts shafts came out by hand with no tension on them. It's like anything new, we hit ever bump, next time it wouldn't be so hard and that's life.
Man I'm doing one now. These damn German cars can't make nothing easy. Got to the last bolt and it stripped. I'm about to just take the air hammer to the head of it tomorrow and blast it off. I wouldn't own one of these cars if ya paid me.

Can't agree more with your custom machining ideas!!! Metal dipstick. Metal remote adapter! Reduce all that trash in there!

Same just happened to me tonight. Same dang bolt.

all turbo cars have same issu. oil from turbu feed
this shit works ty
Can blank it with plate ?
Definitely do not just blank it off. This feeds the oil filter. My future idea would be a plate with hose adapters to relocate the cooler and filter.

VW really should have picked a better bolt:). Let’s hope the sensor won’t come back to bite me, other wise I’ll have to edit my comment too🤣
