Serge Nubret had no legs and his back was terrible in comparison. He was good at hiding his weaknesses when posing but during comparisons there is nowhere to hide.

The fact is that Weider switched two of the judges at the end as he was ahead on three cards. That lead him to lose the competition. Its a fact. Look it up
IMO, this was so close that a great case could be made either way. Point by point, I honestly think The Myth checked more boxes (thickness, back, legs, v-taper), but The Oak had those guns, and another attribute that doesn't show in still photos: stage presence. Can't forget about Arnold's charisma, showmanship and posing skills. This channel is getting better and better, and I'm not just blowing smoke. I don't up-thumb that many videos, but you earned at least 2 today. Keep at it.

Arnold's biceps definitely look like they have more separation and he pulled off a solid vacuum pose. Overall, Arnold was slightly more aesthetic and deserved the win. His height advantage also helped.
its tough man. the issue is that arnolds aesthetics are just pleasing, and his size makes it all even better. although he wasnt at his best, well, thank goodness for sergio that arnold wasnt at his best or else he wouldve wiped the floor with him.

I always heard how great Sergio was in 1972. Then I saw photos and said to myself Arnold looked pretty good. The front double biceps and most muscular seal the deal. Arnold. But close and back arms overhead is Sergio.
Several things to consider. Sergio was not a great poser and often forgot to stay flexed this made him appear to be smooth. Sergio trained with Nautilius machines which did not have a good lat training machine which was a body part that Sergio was usually better than Arnold in. Finally Arnold said that he was in Sergio's head, telling Sergio that they were suppose to leave the stage, Sergio walked off Arnold stayed and continued to pose...Arnold won the contest 4-3.......
It's also worth noting that Sergio was banned from competing in the Olympia after 1972, and only after mending ties with the Weiders was he allowed to step on the Olympia stage again in 1984-85. So as far as we can tell he reached his best shape overall in 1972. Could he have improved for the 73 Olympia and on... we'll never know...
It's a 1972 story, with all those pictures, we can't be as impressed as if we were judges at the time, watching those guys in person. It's too close to call 40-some years later, so for people to say it was rigged in favor of Arnold, meaning Sergio was far better, just based on the pictures, is odd, to say the least. Everybody loves a nice underdog story, and of course Sergio looks amazing, but it's noteworthy that judges in these competitions have to find ways to measure greatness and Arnold always comes on top in every conversation ever since, because he is tall, massive yet his shape is so perfect, like a sculpture. The muscle definition and overall balance is uncanny. In the closest shot of Sergio and Arnold side-by-side they both look impressive, I would still give Arnold the edge because of his larger waist, he looks better. It's all in the details. Arnold's legs look a tiny bit better, his pecs, too, and Sergio looks like he transferred all his mass from the hips to pump his arms like Popeye, his torso looks like a Y, not a V. So not only did he not beat Arnold, he was clearly a touch behind if your really look closely. Look at Arnold's biceps, compared to Sergio's. They're a lot thicker. So maybe overall some people want Sergio to win, because he looks great, but if you watch really closely you may find the judges at the time didn't need any conspiracy to give Arnold the nod.
@aaron pryor lmao if it was about race then Weider would never have allowed black people to win olympia titles. Explain why Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman both won 8 olympias? Why would they allow a black man like coleman win against a taller blue eyed and blonde hair german like Günter Schlierkamp? Stop being sensitive and naive and do think deeper and do some research before using the race card.
Serge Nubret looked better in those pictures than both Arnold and Sergio. Better conditioned and much more asthetic and balanced than either. He never got the credit he deserved and should have won a couple of Mr Olympia's.
Cuidense.
You are correct about the separation of front biceps with Arnold being the winner of that, but Sergio's chest to waste ratio was far superior to Arnold's... Sergio had a more rugged body and his waste and thighs were the same size... 29 inches. It's tough...
Arnold's biceps were amazing that year, for sure, as was his vacuum pose. Also, his calves were looking very impressive; something he had issues with early in his career. But man, Sergio looked amazing! He never had that kind of billiard ball bicep shape that Arnold had; that was probably the one thing about his aesthetics that was lacking, but he looked AMAZING overall. His legs and V-taper were phenomenal. I think Sergio should have won it.
Depends on what one emphasizes. Sergio had better legs in my opinion. Arnold did have the bicep separation though. Tough call. Would have liked to have seen subsequent match-ups between the two.
The real "Poster Boy" was actually Frank Zane. It was Zane and not Arnold who always sold the greatest amount of magazines when he was on the cover. Oliva struggled with issues of conditioning and muscle control on stage when compared to Arnold. i thought Oliva looked his best in off stage shots made by Arthur Jones!
No, Sergio was offered a minor part in 'Red Heat' and he didn't turn it down because of money, but because he felt his smaller part against Arnold's part would be like losing to Arnold. His ego couldn't handle that. I know the Predator rumor, but the guy spreading the rumor either made it up or didn't remember correctly.
+Mar Rastapopoulos oh wait, I now remember it was his son saying that. Which I don't understand, because the Red Heat story was told by Sergio Oliva himself.
Hi Nick cheers from India,Another great video thoroughly enjoyed it and I have been enjoying your videos from some time now .. Could you also please enlighten us with some videos on what you think about Indian Bodybuilder and if any Indian Body Builder stood out for you ever Cheers!
You got it spot on, Arnold was clearly better that year, The front double bicep pose just look at their left arms for comparison... it's almost embarrassing for Sergio. Arnold had him on calves and the back shot showed Arnold was also ahead. Add the fact Arnold had a bigger and better chest it's not controversial. to me Sergios always looked like his arms (especially forearms) were not meant for his body, it's like they transplanted somebodies top half onto him. There's such a hipster like group in bodybuilding now that thinks it's cool to hate on Arnold and believes it makes them seem more knowledgeable, it's a shame they have no respect. Arnold was better and was the greatest off all time and he retired at a young age. Ppl always hate those on top and Sergio was bitter.
You have to understand that Joe Weider owned and controlled the Mr. Olympia contest. The only way a bodybuilder could win the Mr. Olympia was if they were under contract with Weider and they were in his favor. By 1972, Sergio Oliva was out of favor and Schwarzenegger was the current big favorite of Weider. The cards were against Oliva! I’m not saying that Weider fixed the contest, but right before the competition, Weider changed all the judges. Everyone there including all the bodybuilders thought Oliva should have won. Even Schwarzenegger thought he lost.
Harpreet Singh If you google or youtube Steve Reeves he has a chart for height, weight, and size for different muscle groups which he would have used to judge bodybuilding contests. He believed the judges should have used tape measures to make the judging less subjective. As an example, at his best Reeves neck, arms, and calves all measured the same, 18.5 inches. Small by today's standards but he looked great and healthy with a small waist, great v taper.
Serge nubret was very good.... but when you look at serge standing next to the big Heavy Hitters he just didn't have the mass or the size and that's what hurt him
Sergio would win if he had the front arm separation. I think.. His back double was WAY better than arnold, but I really think arnolds front double was unbeatable
Hey Nick, 100% agree Arnold being the taller man, his better definition especially in the front double biceps pose gave Arnold the edge. That being said Sergio is one of my all time favorite body builders. Both of these guys with their massive size and SMALL WAISTS (hint hint) make today's Olympia winners look like they are extremely bloated in the abdomen and not aesthetic whatsoever. Keep up the good work, love your channel.
Hi NIck! My opinion here. I really liked Sergio alot!!!!, and I think he had Arnold beat in some body part areas,(I don't think Arnold's Hamstrings were the best, but his Calves and his Quads were really nice. In Arnold's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding he's even his own worse critic regarding the need for better development in certain areas. I REALLY liked his style during his heyday! :D You also stated Arnold had nice separation in his Biceps, which I couldn't agree with you more, but Arnold's back double-bicep pose was amazing(most always). His separation there was great! Arnold had much more separation overall, and also in his front chest poses proved his definition, AND, as you said, Arnold was just BIGGER! But I also think Sergio's overall symmetry might have beaten Arnold. As much as I think Sergio could or should have beaten Arnold, Arnold just had him overall, including through his abilities of mental strategies. Thanks Nick for have a great UA-cam presence covering the Golden Age of Bodybuilding. Bodybuilding today, yes is great and different, but in my mind it will NEVER be as good as the Golden Age! Unless they get back to offering finesse-type physiques as these guys offered pre-90's.
As you say Sergio was dwarfed by Arnold. On stage by himself, Sergio looked unbeatable, standing next to Arnold that advantage disappeared. I'd like to see some coverage of circa '80 Sergio, IMHO that was his best shape. Sergio size and cut/defined.
1972 is clear Arnold. look at his whole upper body definition compared to Olivia especially arms. lower lattes thicker chest. Olivia was playing with a lot of mass but it wasn't as developed as Arnold's. of coarse tho Arnold's legs were slightly smaller but much more definition.
IMHO it was so close, maybe too close to call, but Arnold seemed slightly more cut with greater separation, but Sergio the "Myth" was so awesome as well. This was Arnold at his best. The 1980 Olympia decision was a joke and everyone knows that. Arnold in his prime was unbeatable. And Sergio will always be remembered as one of the greats! After Grimek and Reeves, these two champions are my faves. Thanks for posting; a great video.
I like the myth a lot! His arms, his shoulder to waist ratio, he had no weak points, except for 1 thing: His muscle separation. He has a LOT of mass, but very bad separation. Now this wasn't really an issue, because his mass and beautiful shape won from everybody, until Arnold came along. Now when Arnold won in 1970... Well, whether he deserved it or not, it wasn't a convincing win. The case could be made for either side. But as the years gone by, Arnold was the clear winner when it comes to bodyshape, his chest, arms and huge ribcage inspired many generations of skinny nerds to the gym. In the size department Olivia wasn't king anymore, Arnold grew bigger, more confident, such a stage present. This combined with his condition and clearly superior separation enhances it further, and even further than that because Sergio stood as a pal body without any seperation (I exaggerate ofcourse). Meanwhile Oliva didn't evolve any further than 1970. Yes, he grew bigger, but that wasn't enough when you want to beat the Oak! Think about it. Olivia kept on bodybuilding. Meanwhile Arnold was doing movies, filimg pumping iron. He lost some size, but still blew everyone out of the water (except for Serge Nubret, he lost but could lose with dignity because he was the only who gave Arnold a bit of a challenge, sad Pumping Iron and Nubret couldnt work out a deal, Nubret almost had 0 screentime) because of his insane genetics. Size isn't everything, this was proven again in the Frank Zane era (a short one, but an era nonetheless). Imagine if Arnold didn't stop in 1975, but kept on going for a good 5 years, he was still very young and had some more room to improve. But alas, he decided to do movies. One could only dream how Arnold would have looked if he kept on going. But I shouldn't complain about it, his life after bodybuilding is just mind-boggling insane. There is nothing this man can't achieve when he puts his mind to it. He even has the audacity to lobby and still doing so till this day to remove the restrictions for running for president of the worlds greatest country! The balls of this man in real life are made of a harder metal than the balls of the terminator. This is what would be the modern Hercules, what a legend. Ironically he also starred in a Hercules movie. Nothing is too ridiculous for this man. I wouldn't even be surprised that in 2028 (after his 2 terms as president of the united states, yes I said it) he would announce that he has achieved everything a man would want. Best bodybuilder, best paid actor (in the old days this would be equivalent of gladiators and other war heroes; in our relatively no violence society the modern-day heroes are those in the entertainment industry), became governor of the richest state (WTF man) and became the president of the nr1 country in the world... He then, (after all his achievements, still nothing is ever enough for this man) would have the balls to announce he wants the become an astronaut. For many seen as the symbolic and greatest kind of scientist you can imagine. There is no one that ever said: I want to be a chemist, I want to be a mathematician; most kids (into science or adventure) say they want to be an astronaut. This is what this man, this legend already represents. The embodiment of hard work, having brass balls and always aim for the stars. Now he is literally aiming for the stars. He will work his ass of to study hardcore beta classes. Physics, Chemistry, biochemistry, you name it. This cocky twat will probably become the greatest scientist too! Damn, yes, you heard it here first. He will make Einstein seem like a child. How would he do this? Surely his IQ is objectively lower than Einsteins. "Wheere their is will, there ies a wayy." This most important man (even if he says so himself) the world has ever known would say. He will probably find a way to mass-produce inventions with some kind of system. System of effective exploitation of scientists the third edition written by Arnold Schwarzenegger the greatest under God (yes he changed his surname to a sentence). He wins the noble price because of this system, the greatest scientific achievement ever. Thanks to this system where scientists are brutally exploited mankind has achieved accelerated research knowledge. This resulted in many inventions such as FTL (faster than light) techology. Mankind could for the first time leave their cozy Solar system. And it was then that Humans, from the planet Earth, became the newest sentient species of notable size to enter the galactic stage and are the most rapidly expanding and developing (Mass Effect?). And upon meeting other galactic races... War.. Omg. Wars with aliens! But we have Arnold "I am heerrre" He would say.. Ok, I think you get the drill, Arnold would keep on winning. Cheating death with technology or by any obscene method. Living long enough, for millions of years endlessly winning. Winning and winning until the very near end of existence, until even God became bored of existing and decides to end it all. He who created all, Arnold will defeat this invisible entity. He will do it I am telling you. He is that kind of cocky Rascal. So by defeating God he basicly became God, he will be above everything. A God of Gods who saved creation itself. Holy shit. I typed a lot hahaha. Shit man. I just went on rambling, on and on. ^_^ Arnold is my hero (no homo). No hero or even mythical hero can come close to this ballsy Austrain. He is a fuking living Legend, a God among man. Thanks for reading up until this point! Don't forget to like and have a nice day and good night to others! (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
Both Sergio and Arnold looked great! But looking at these photo's, Arnold won fair and square ;0) Arnold had better symmetry, conditioning and muscle bellies ;0) Interestingly, just as Sergio Jr won the New York pro this year! He won because of his conditioning and symmetry ;0) Great video! Thanks Nick :0)
Obviously, Arnold and Sergio were very close BUT I suspect Joe Weider DID rig the contest. He had tried, before Arnold, to make Dave Draper his blonde bodybuilding poster boy. But when Joe discovered Arnold he dumped Dave Draper and began to market Arnold. Joe was primarily a BUSINESSMAN using bodybuilding to get RICH. And Arnold was ten times more "marketable" than Sergio. So.......
Decades-long love of both Arnold and Sergio....and I'll tell ya why: they BOTH understood the power of 45-degree angles, particularly the double biceps....Lordy Mercy, just LOOK at Sergio's incredible double biceps and Arnold is his equal, albeit with different qualities. 45-degree angles!!!! A HUGE issue I've had with posing since the mid-1980s is how "tight" everyone poses....screw that!.....spread those biceps (and everything else) OUT, bitches!! LOL Great channel.....thanks for sharing!
Lou Ferrigno, who was a friend of Arnold's and was actually AT the '72 Olympia (unlike Nick, who's just seen the pictures) said that he thought Sergio won the contest. Danny Padilla, a top competitor back in the '70's who saw both Arnold and Sergio at their best, was quoted as saying that while "Arnold and Sergio were close physically, Sergio had the edge." At the '72 show Olivia was at his best, condition wise, and Arnold was relatively off. Olivia looked to be the CLEAR winner (to most of the audience.) EVERYONE knows that the judging at this show was rigged..Arnold was a close friend of Weider's and Joe made sure that Schwarzenegger was gonna get the decision REGARDLESS of how he looked.
SUZI MAJOR - please!!!! Anyone who has an eye for detail can see Arnold deserved the win. There's no doubt. Anyone who says different doesn't know shit about bodybuilding!!!!!
good video, do more and I mean do every MR Olympia .Sergio looks like he is full of water not hard , Arnold had better split in his arms and looks better.1981 was the most controversial MR Olympia, then 1980.more more great videos, if you keep it up you will have the best videos on the MR Olympia and on bodybuilding! more history more videos great job man
Wrong it’s the other way around. Arnold is waaay overrated. His fame won him trophies which is why a lot of people thought 72 and 80 Mr Olympia was rigged. Stop trolling.
Jacob Locklear Obviously because he was white. Just like Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, Phil Heath and Shawn Rhoden. Your and idiot if that is indeed how you think.
1:37 Arnold has the most aesthetic arms of all time. Not only the biggest (probably), but look at that awesome bicep, no other bodybuilder ever had anything like this. Also he does vacuum all the time and that seems super aesthetic to me. For these reasons I would say Arnie first, Sergio/Serg second. Also at 3:47 look at these calves! Arnold himself said that he trained super hard on his small calves and here they truly look impressive. Sergio cant beat that.
You know what, if we added together all the videos and opinions of who 'should' have won which Olympia and who shouldn't have I don't think a single Olympia result would stand! I think that just shows a couple of things, that BB'ing really is a subjective 'sport', that you can't always tell from pictures, and that no BBer ever thinks they should have lost! 😊
I would say that Serge Nubret looked pretty darn good in 1972!!!
Serge Nubret had no legs and his back was terrible in comparison. He was good at hiding his weaknesses when posing but during comparisons there is nowhere to hide.
Both Sergio and Arnold DESTROYED Serge in the calves. They also crushed him in the quads and hams for that matter. But in bodybuilding, the calves make the leg.
@DragonGP - I guess it's a good thing Arnold got those calf implants then.
TheSpritz0 hell yes
Like Zane but bigger
Tough to judge them, it really went down to the smaller details, Arnold's hair was way better conditioned and his teeth had far superior separation.
Parody, Arnolds teeth separation? That's got to be the light hearted statement from for the ages.
My father told me about this in the 90s. He said Arnold also gave an interview after this competition in which he stated he was not the real winner.
That pose @ 3:55, damn
As far as basic bone structure -- clavicle width to hip width, limb lengths, joint thicknesses, all relative to height -- Sergio had the edge over Arnold. Sergio's "X-frame" was near-perfect versus Arnold's slightly-too-wide hips for Arnold's frame.
However, IF the photos from that contest accurately capture how each looked, then Arnold was slightly more cut than Sergio. Sergio's waist isn't as lean as Arnold's.

Arnold's arms seem more aesthetic and proportioned
lovesgibson Arnold had shit triceps and forearms lol
Then why did they look so good in all his pics?
lovesgibson GTFO!!! Arnold's mega wide waist, compared to Sergio's cobra v-taper. Sergio was the better man
The one thing that Arnold had in the waist department was well developed obliques which complimented his abs and the look of his waist which was rare in those days. Arnold has an eye of an artist and developed his body with that as his guiding path and succeeded in showing future generations what bodybuilding can be. A beautiful sport.
The Black Knight Arnold had the Cobra lats. Sergio lats were high attached. He had an Y taper.
Sergio's waist is tiny! Also, he has on smaller trunks, whereas Arnold's appear to be bigger and hiding some of his lower abs. I think Sergio looks more symmetrical/aesthetically pleasing, but I agree Arnold's arms are way more defined.
Exactly
agreed sergio had the best waist
Arnold had the edge his symmetry and his separation with his muscles.... as good as Sergio was and he's one of my favorites he just never had that polished look.
I think you're dead right about Sergio's biceps, absolutely no separation from the front, just massive lumps. Definitely BIG but not brilliant :)
serge nubret is unbelievably great!!! more videos about him please!
Arnold's biceps definitely look like they have more separation and he pulled off a solid vacuum pose. Overall, Arnold was slightly more aesthetic and deserved the win. His height advantage also helped.
Prolly Sergio was the most complete bodybuilder, but Arnold's pecs and arms are still unmatched plus the Oak was more massive
its tough man. the issue is that arnolds aesthetics are just pleasing, and his size makes it all even better. although he wasnt at his best, well, thank goodness for sergio that arnold wasnt at his best or else he wouldve wiped the floor with him.
the only advantage id give to Sergio is his waist was smaller but his back was also smaller too Arnold had the bigger and better package over all
Man honestly Sergio has everything Arnold has with a waist that looks half the size! Genetic freak.
I think Arnold is a tad superior in terms of biceps/pecs
agreed on the waist thing, who do you think should have won?
Sergio had the smallest waist in IFBB history.
Was that the year when Joe Weider changed the judges in the last moment giving Arnold the Olympia??
This is the following year. So sergio came in the next shape of his life training under Arthur Jones. He was robbed. Everyone there that night said sergio won. Even Arnold admitted it
Franco Columbu mentioned in a video, the context was how Arnold played mind games with others, that when judges were having a hard time deciding the best amonth Sergio and Arnold, they were having a pose down, and Arnold told Sergio that this will go forvever. it could've gone either way in my opinion.
it could of gone either way but with the Weiders involved it was only going to go their way...
I agree they both looked pretty good
but I agree that Arnold should've of won if only barely
Pretty much. Sergio had better structure, Arnold have better conditioning
Sergio had better triceps, Arnold had better biceps
Sergio had better forearms, Arnold had better calves
Chest and back were roughly equal as were quads.
Xavier Vega totally agree
In my opinion Arnold had the better conditioning and that's why he won maybe some favoritism was in play we'll never know but Sergio still looked amazing and I'm sure it was very close
Sergio should have won but that didn't suit Weider's business plan.
I think Arnold had a little better detail in arms. look at biceps and triceps.
much better
Garret141076
..of course Arnold is famous for his arms
This guy arnold was the one who made me love wrking out.started at 20.nw am 35.he has muslces not a big arm dat dnt have biceps.he had the fucking biggest i have ever seen.he is the dam king of bodybuilding.dnt give a fuck wat ppl say.these guys these days ahhhh so full oh shit big belly.more rods use drugs to get big.all jokers arnold king king bodybuilder
Sergio should have one this one
I always heard how great Sergio was in 1972. Then I saw photos and said to myself Arnold looked pretty good. The front double biceps and most muscular seal the deal. Arnold. But close and back arms overhead is Sergio.

You'll also see if you look that Arnold is almost always a step forward of Sergio making Arnold appear larger than he would be standing side by side.
john butz Sergio had very high inserting lats which there isn't much you can do to fix
@@Sean-if7rp Lol no, Sergio had great lats inserted just right, your hero had rather low lats in fact. Sergio robbed - the greatest of all time.
that was in 1970 this was 1972 smart ass
It's also worth noting that Sergio was banned from competing in the Olympia after 1972, and only after mending ties with the Weiders was he allowed to step on the Olympia stage again in 1984-85. So as far as we can tell he reached his best shape overall in 1972. Could he have improved for the 73 Olympia and on... we'll never know...
True, he was a beast there and beat a very good Franco Columbo.
He was banned because he made lots of trouble with Weider, and he works for the other Organisation WABBA.
Iron Warrior yes he could have but he was quitter like mentzer
You cannot quit if you are blackballed.
I think we can know. He was sensational at the 1973 Mr International contest.
Sergio Oliva with the crab pose, winner in my book. Though Arnold did make some damn good action movies later.
Close but Arnold edges it, the more complete package.
@aaron pryor Like a better body on the day of the contest. Stop being racist.
He was not only black but he was also Cuban l mean Caribbean ...you know what lm trying to say right
@aaron pryor exactly... White ppl act like they are not evil racist ppl
Arnold legs are small. Overall package Sergio by far
Serge Nubret looked better in those pictures than both Arnold and Sergio. Better conditioned and much more asthetic and balanced than either. He never got the credit he deserved and should have won a couple of Mr Olympia's.
Arnold had perfect preparations a impressive v taper and a flat stomach
Sergio did too.
Kill Me in the picks he even had a good vacuum going on 👍
Arnie had superior chest, arms, delts taller heavier frame
Nick the type of dude to upload good quality content
IMO it could have gone either way. Each was tremendous in his own way. Neither was so good as to decisively beat out the other one.
Iron Warrior serigo was better.
MrInzombia smoother
No...... Sergio just thought he was better. HE LOST!
Cuidense.
You are correct about the separation of front biceps with Arnold being the winner of that, but Sergio's chest to waste ratio was far superior to Arnold's... Sergio had a more rugged body and his waste and thighs were the same size... 29 inches. It's tough...
i learn so much from your videos. Love it.
In my book arnold is the clear winner so many parts that were better than sergio.
Sean S i
Arnold looks better than Sergio, but Nubret looks better than both of him. He was kind of an awkward poser but that physique he brought was amazing.
Serge had no legs.
I prefer the physiques of both Serge and Sergio over Arnold's but Arnold had the best biceps for sure
Dam the content is getting better and better
I noticed the lack of seperation on Sergio's biceps poses from the front right away too. Arnie out conditioned him.. Fair and square......
Depends on what one emphasizes. Sergio had better legs in my opinion. Arnold did have the bicep separation though. Tough call. Would have liked to have seen subsequent match-ups between the two.
for the record great TIMING for when you made and released this video!
love these historical vids. thank you for your content
The real "Poster Boy" was actually Frank Zane. It was Zane and not Arnold who always sold the greatest amount of magazines when he was on the cover. Oliva struggled with issues of conditioning and muscle control on stage when compared to Arnold. i thought Oliva looked his best in off stage shots made by Arthur Jones!
years later ARNOLD offered SERGIO a part in the MOVIE PREDATOR SERGIO said he would only do it if he got the same money as ARNOLD so it never happened
Raymond Ervin was it the part that Carl weather's played?
shane womeldorff i think it was the JESSE VENTURA part
No, Sergio was offered a minor part in 'Red Heat' and he didn't turn it down because of money, but because he felt his smaller part against Arnold's part would be like losing to Arnold. His ego couldn't handle that.
I know the Predator rumor, but the guy spreading the rumor either made it up or didn't remember correctly.
Mar Rastapopoulos i must have spoken to THAT GUY
+Mar Rastapopoulos oh wait, I now remember it was his son saying that. Which I don't understand, because the Red Heat story was told by Sergio Oliva himself.
I remember watching this on The Wide World of Sports. Then as now, I believe the outcome was fixed.
Mr. Olympia (Essen - Germany)
Who do you expect to win it?
Hey man can you report something about this gap between the abs like colemans? The drifting apart of the blocks (don't know how to describe)
Hi Nick cheers from India,Another great video thoroughly enjoyed it and I have been enjoying your videos from some time now .. Could you also please enlighten us with some videos on what you think about Indian Bodybuilder and if any Indian Body Builder stood out for you ever Cheers!
Sergio Oliva was shot like 9 times by his wife and lived. He won at life. Arnold still looks better than him on many levels in my opinion.
Even Schwarzenegger thought he lost.
arnold and sergio cancelled each other with there proportions but arny had the charisma the look and was white
ratio and proportions are key of aesthetics , can you make a video on how to calculate muscle size and proportion with other muscles..??
Harpreet Singh If you google or youtube Steve Reeves he has a chart for height, weight, and size for different muscle groups which he would have used to judge bodybuilding contests. He believed the judges should have used tape measures to make the judging less subjective. As an example, at his best Reeves neck, arms, and calves all measured the same, 18.5 inches. Small by today's standards but he looked great and healthy with a small waist, great v taper.
MPaixao yes , 1 : 1.6 , and all other measurements.. waist to chest ratio , or arms to wrist ratio.. etc
u r right...
Arnold did enough..
Serge nubret was very good.... but when you look at serge standing next to the big Heavy Hitters he just didn't have the mass or the size and that's what hurt him
Legs alone is very obvious and huge back. Oliva was robbed definitely.
Sergio would win if he had the front arm separation. I think.. His back double was WAY better than arnold, but I really think arnolds front double was unbeatable
just look the biceps of Arnold. and is very clear who is the best, very cut arms and beautiful, Arnold is hard to beat,
Hey Nick, 100% agree Arnold being the taller man, his better definition especially in the front double biceps pose gave Arnold the edge. That being said Sergio is one of my all time favorite body builders. Both of these guys with their massive size and SMALL WAISTS (hint hint) make today's Olympia winners look like they are extremely bloated in the abdomen and not aesthetic whatsoever. Keep up the good work, love your channel.
It was close but Sergio's taper was the best of all time !
29" waist vs 34" for Arnold.
Once again good job Nick, yes Sergio was at his best, however Arnold still made him look smaller and smoother, I don't believe it was rigged
At this point, Nick should do an episode for every Mr. Olympia.
Great video nick
u changed u're mind from yesterday upload ..hahaha i agree with u nick arnold killed him in arms separation back and upper chest
Who's this "Arnold" guy? I've never heard of him and I can't seem to find any information about him anywhere :\
Serge arms looks the same size as his waist! Keep doin ya thang nick..

So.......
In honesty it some down to preference on this . I myself think Sergio had a better look ,but Arnold obviously looked great too
Very close decision. Arnold had better arms and back so I'll accept it. Although if Sergio won I'd accept that too.
I must stop looking at these uploads - so much nonsense. Sergio was robbed blind in 72, the German crowd loudly booed the decision.
Hey Nick, can you make a video on who you think is the best poser in the bodybuilding industry ever?
Not mentioned: GREATEST BODYBUILDING LINEUP EVER!
Both could have won the '72 Mr. O, but I'm totally with you, Nick.
Thx for the great video!
You should do a video about Mike O'hern calling out Brad Castleberry. I can't wait for that.
I second that
Cody Milligan yes!
Cody Milligan no that's an utter waste of significant time....two less than useless human beings
he made two of them on brad castleberry
Josie I know but about Mike calling him out not just about brad. I'd like to see one about it but that's just my opinion.
LOL
Great channel.....thanks for sharing!
SERGIO WON!
wasn't this video uploaded a few days ago?
Arnold in "Education of a Bodybuilder" openly admitted that Sergio was in a league of his own...
SERGE NUBRET!
Poland syndrome bodybuilding serge never had the size or the mass to stand with the big boys.
Poland syndrome bodybuilding serge looked crazy for only 200pnds
Arnold looked more finished.
Poland syndrome bodybuilding, Serge has no lats and his legs left a lot to be desired.
has wonderful astetics!!
Still prefer Serge Nubret over them both.
It's a tough call Arnold is just so much bigger and taller, sticks out like a sore thumb.
Jager Gerg taller yes, but pure size sergio wins it man. Arnie even admitted it.
SUZI MAJOR true words! Sergio was black and at this times the bodybuilding magazines sold better with a white guy on the cover
good video, do more and I mean do every MR Olympia .Sergio looks like he is full of water not hard , Arnold had better split in his arms and looks better.1981 was the most controversial MR Olympia, then 1980.more more great videos, if you keep it up you will have the best videos on the MR Olympia and on bodybuilding! more history more videos great job man
Sergio is overrated, Arnold was obviously better. People who say otherwise, I don't know what the hell they're looking at.
Wrong it’s the other way around. Arnold is waaay overrated. His fame won him trophies which is why a lot of people thought 72 and 80 Mr Olympia was rigged. Stop trolling.
PRECISELY
Arnold won because he was a tall goodlooking white guy
Jacob Locklear Obviously because he was white. Just like Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, Phil Heath and Shawn Rhoden.
Your and idiot if that is indeed how you think.
Arnold is overrated and I don't know what the hell are you looking at. Sergio and Serge both were way better.
I do think Arnold beat Sergio but I think Serge nubret should have won that Olympia.
Sergio should have won, RIGGED,
1:37 Arnold has the most aesthetic arms of all time.
Everybody's referring to Sergio and Arnold but my Serge Nubert who was from France and I think far superior to the other two gentleman
