Yeah but then that wouldn't make a very interesting video would it 😂 You just see Mitch carrying his log in a mall or smtg, asking people to try and lift it 😂

Really interesting how some guys looked quite far from getting a lift, but after 20 seconds of tips they smoke it on the next attempt. Strongman lifts are pretty technical.
saaaaaameeeeee i got 2 reps at 200lbs, couldn't lock out my 3rd or 4th attempts, but there were guys viper pressing the log for 10 reps lol also did monster DB in my first ever comp, only managed 1 rep at 40kg. it really makes a huge difference if you have the equipment to train on
Mitch - I notice that Strongmen seem to have a preferred arm for the monster dumbbell lifts. Do you guys ever train the other arm for balance? Super curious. Love your content! I’ve been binge watching all the competitions on UA-cam thanks to you 😅
It's hilarious how different lifts affect us. I look at the car leg press and REALLY want to try it because I KNOW I could get a rep, but a 200lb log seems crazy. Yet until recently my squat was about the same as my bench
Loved this Hoop! Do more like it! Coaching is clearly one of your gifts, and also breaks it down for us viewers really well too. Also, go workout with Dr Mike/Mr Feather!!!!
Circus dumbbell press looks like a lot of fun! Didn't think Ian would get it with such a suboptimal setup. Dude is pretty damn strong. Impressive as hell.
Matt looked like he had the roid rage when you after you corrected him on the snatch and he got it 😂😂. Excellent show of strength that, you’re the man fr!!
I would be able to do the log press, but if Mitch called me over I’d have to tell him I need to warm up first 😂 otherwise my elbows would not be happy and I’d probably fail
I would love to know more about asymmetries, if you do both arms in monster DB and what cues to avoid injury when doing single extremities, one sided, etc and recommended corrections
According to Google Greg Kovacs the Body Builder passed away many years ago. Unless you mean a different Greg Kovacs? I am definitely no expert on all the bodybuilders and power lifters etc that have ever been been. The two men I mentioned are arguably 2 of the best Olympic Shotputters in History both Americans and occasionally on UA-cam etc. Crouser is the current World Record Holder and Kovacs is not far behind.
@@DavidVirtanen The pictures and description of Greg Kovacs via google probably don’t do him justice. He was a beast he would have come near Mitch’s numbers not 460 but 400 is a reasonable estimate.
I know Brian Shaw was balanced with both arms, and I think there are a couple of others... can't remember who they are though. They would love that event! Lol I would not 🤣 My max would be almost halved.
Hey Moose, like the pros vs joes. Qn: You were doing the overhead dumbell press w only your left arm (yes, I realize that you're L-handed). My Qn is if you train both sides in case of L-side injury mid-comp? That way you at least wd get some points fr that event. Thoughts?
I think it would be a cool spectacle if at strongman shows they would have average men try to move the instruments before the strongmen compete to show how difficult it really is.
Im going to interview average joes! First guy - classic physique competitor. Second guy- 210lb lifter Then elderly man Then elderly woman Then another bodybuilder Then a super fit guy Then finally an average joe
Love strongman events. Sad thing tho is that every joe at the gym seem to be stronger than me, maybe save for the lady that missed the log press which seem to be on par with me.
I’m desperately trying to find the video wit the comment where a guy said WSM was a 2 horse race between you and Thor, following SMOE. He was mocking me for saying Tom may still stand a small chance as a multi time winner. Don’t get me wromg I’m a huge fan of all of you, just need to mock the guy 😂
Pressing overhead is the hardest if you don't consistently train it. Even if you're using the low body it will still feel very unnatural until you get multiples sessions in
Best ive done with log is 75kg(not sure on freedom units 😅) not something i can train at my normal gym and i have never tried the monsterdumbbell, 40kg seems alot 💪
I will use various forms of freedom measurements. Approximately 220 fully dressed cheeseburgers, roughly two 35 inch mud terrain tires, 132 twenty ounce cokes, and finally it is 165 pounds.
I can tell you right now that absolutely 0 average (even average at the gym) people are strict pressing a 215 log. Anyone getting that is well above average. My last amateur comp EVERYONE but 2 failed a 220 log in the middleweight class (which they allowed up to 210lbs)
5:47 Mitch says "a bit sloppy🤷♂️" to that poor guy. Clearly been a sensitive topic for the guy and the world's strongest man called ya sloppy. Lmfao calling him a fat f*ck would've been waaaay less disrespectful than sloppy. 😂
I pressed a log for the first time yesterday, did 135lbs for 2 reps from the floor, technique was definitely a limiting factor. (As was injury, nursing a brused rib currently, not dangerous, but painful enough I really didn't want to push myself.) Launching the implement from that arched back position feels really weird, lol. Still, wicked fun lift, way more satisfying to lock out than a regular barbell, and I'm pretty proud of that for a first ever try. 180lb bodyweight, btw.
I love how genuinely excited Mitch got when people did it!

do you generally do any dumbell training with your off hand?
At 65Kg body weight, I could probably give it a go using push-press technique but how much does a log ads to your max barbell press ?
Generally less. Most people can push press more on a barbell than a log.
Damn. I did 3x8 50kg with an ordinary barbell today. No way I could press that.
I think the actual average for men in all gyms is probably closer to 50 kg...
Agree. Most train 1-2 years for a 60kg overhead-press
Pressing overhead is the hardest if you don't consistently train it. Even if you're using the low body it will still feel very unnatural until you get multiples sessions in

165lb is a strong overhead press. Plus the size of it makes it more challenging.

The log can be more awkward. Usually what people can do with the log is lower than what they can do with a bar.
