The amazing thing about Arnold is that he walked around like he was 5'10" and 180lbs. Agile and effortless. Today they walk around like they just had back surgery, with a stick up their asses...
1974 was his best shape when he was beginning to hit his peak. 243 lbs (compared to 251.8 lbs or 114 kg at 1971), but striated, lean and huge. He said in his book, he gained mass in upper back, hamstring and upper chest in 1974 to make him perfectly proportioned.
Never met the guy .. I think back then he was the choice..just like Hulk Hogan was the choice . Alota people made alota money off these guys . Charisma .
Yes. He knew how to tense his legs where you can see the separation. His legs were shredded. Frank Zane, Padilla, Platz and Mentzer were also good at flexing their legs.
Arnold loss his legs when the director of stay hungry says he have to weigh 210 lbs for the movie and he included a lot of cardio in his routine running 5 miles a day.
Nick you are doing a great job !!! All the Bodybuilding industry should praise you. Seriuos journalism presented in a very easy way to follow and learn. Great job
In 1968, Sergio Oliva ran unopposed. Same with Arnold in '71. But the difference is a huge one. Arnold would've had competitors but they competed in non-IFBB contests (particularly the '71 NABBA Mr Universe in which Bill Pearl beat Sergio and Zane, among many others). That's why Arnold stood alone. But no one was ready to face Sergio in '68 because he was SCARY!!!! Thank you Nick's Strength and Power for the historical perspective.
I've never seen anyone like Arnold. The lines, the flat stomach. The way his Lats seamlessly connect to his oblique's. His legs looked right for his overall look, not like the Platz stupid looking legs. Arnold was a true sculptor not a mass pig...
Right. Arnold was massive, but not TOO massive. He pushed the envelope as far as he could just short of sacrificing aesthetics. Today, aesthetics is sacrificed on the altar of mass. But the thing is, they're only a little more massive than Arnold but HUGELY less aesthetic.
I didn't find BB interesting until I subscribed to you, I respect it a great deal more. I train for aesthetics but I always correct people that bash BBs, they're like unsung heroes/warriors !
A year before, Bill Pearl had made it known that he was coming out retirement to take on all comers at the 1971 NABBA Mr. Universe. The Weiders obviously instituted the rule to keep Arnold from risking a loss against Pearl in an overseas venue they couldn't control.
Yes, that is true. But it is also true that Pearl refused to enter the Olympia to compete against Larry Scott, Sergio Oliva, and Arnold. He said he thought you had to be a "Weider Boy" to win, and today we know this as correct. I think he was wise to do it the way he did, and finish out a star.
Really good video . Usually I skip when people show pictures and talk but this guy is really good. Explains some history of the the Mr. Olympia really well . And his voice helps a lot .
Hey man, I just wanna say your videos are really informative. I'm a young buck just getting into bodybuilding and you really inform me about the history. 🖤
I never knew he was the only competitor in 71. Arnold had the best physique of all time. I know Coleman was huge, massive, but in front double bicep pose he just didn't have the total cobra like Arnold. Lee Haney had a bad ass cobra too but he never could get arms like Arnolds. You ever notice that Coleman and Haney always brought their elbows up a little higher than Arnold did when they hit front double biceps pose? That's how they made their biceps look better. Arnold didn't have to do that. He kept his arms level from shoulders to elbows because he had better genetics. That's why I always tell people that Arnold had the perfect cobra, even his lats were longer on the bottom part than Coleman or Haney. Something else to mention is that he had long biceps, long lats, and long teardrop muscle on quads. Those three factors are what set him apart. Plus slim hips. Could you imagine if he was at his prime nowadays, with nowadays drug programs? Nobody could touch him. Great job on video. Thanks.
According to Wayne Gallasch, Sergio didn't find out until he arrived in Paris. I mean that does make sense because Sergio wouldn't have competed in the Universe knowing he'd be unable to enter the Olympia; don't think he'd travel from London to Paris just to guest pose.
Nick, you should write a bodybuilding encyclopedia. I would be the first one to buy it!! You're doing a very good job with al this high level content, realy enjoyable and entertaining.
Good content Nick. You do your research and present a good product. You need to do a video on the man who had he reached his full potential would have stopped the reign of both Lee Haney and Dorian Yates... Matt Mendenhall (who outside of Sergio Oliva was the most genetically gifted bodybuilder ever).
That non sanction rule only made sense if it was directed @ a reigning Mr. Olympia, otherwise it was suffocating competitors & preventing them from having more titles & gaining more prize money. It was a move implemented by tge Weider brothers I think largely because they knew a reigning Mr Universe would overshadow a reigning Mr Olympia in comparison.
Nick, love your vids. You post so much I figure the least I could do would be to give you an idea for another video. Don Youngblood, the bodybuilder who came back during the early 2000's to win the master's Olympia and then ended up qualifying for the real Olympia the year or so after but dying soon after (at about age 50) I believe. I could shoot you ideas for days but you could also cover the Guru chad "diet doc" nichols (ronnie Coleman, flex wheeler, Dallas mccarver, etc's guru).
In those days there was a limited pool of bodybuilders to pull to these competitions so it made sense to try to keep as many on their own brand as possible. These days there are vast numbers of pro and amateur bodybuilders with plenty to go round so I don't think it matters anymore as long as the qualifying rules are still at a high standard to keep Olympia as the premier best of the best show.
Great page Nick. Honestly your passion for bodybuilding is unrivaled, atleast on UA-cam. If you decide to take the next step in your own physique let me know. First supplements cycle on me.
non sanction policy, yup.. not relevant anymore like you said nick. another great upload.. appreciate you take your time, ya know its hours of perhaps of days of info gathering, fyi, been supporting your channel since 2012, i think the first video i watched was Phil Heath following your Twitter account. freaking long time ago! Have an awesome day ahead Nick, peace out Malaysia .
I think that all the non sanctioned policy does these days, is limit the competition. everyone knows that the Olympia is the "Superbowl of bodybuilding", so the reputation has already been established. I think all it does NOW, is make it so great bodybuilders ( like Lee Priest), can't step on stage
no just no dude pahaha wtf, arnolds arms were 21 without a pump and 22 inches with a pump, everyone that knows about anrold knows about "arnolds 21 inch arms'
I know that this channel is a bit more bb and wrestling oriented but if you could make a video about Malanichev and his progression over the years it would be neat ;)
Amazing shape in 1971. Even if other competitiors were allowed to compete, Arnold would win. The only drawback is that the People did not get the clash of Titans that they wanted.
1974 was his best year. Not as heavy as 1971 (243 lbs compared to 251.8 lbs in 1971), but he had more muscularity, lean, ripped and striated. He had mass to his upper chest, back and hamstrings (according to his book) so he was better proportioned in 1974.
Have you done a Bertil Fox video.. followed him during my school years and was devastated when he went to prison. Thank you for your amazing videos.. :)
Arnold to bodybuilding is like Dark Side of the Moon to music, the Porsche 911 to cars, the Grand Seiko Spring Drive to watches. Arnold is the Bruce Lee of bodybuilding. There will always be bodybuilders. But among bodybuilders there will only ever be Arnold.
The amazing thing about Arnold is that he walked around like he was 5'10" and 180lbs. Agile and effortless. Today they walk around like they just had back surgery, with a stick up their asses...
Not even a fair comparison...today's bodybuilders are 6 inches shorter and 40 pounds heavier
Arnold looked amazing in 71
Yes, This was his BEST Shape EVER!
But he really didn't have any size to his legs.
yes, very small legs from the side. '74 was his best shape. His legs were big and he was well proportioned and ripped.
1974 is his best year, 250lb on stage and huge and shredded
Sergio Oliva has always been my favorite bodybuilder. The density and shape that Oliva and Arnold had in the 70s is astounding!
Arnold so good he got his own olympia!
Never met the guy .. I think back then he was the choice..just like Hulk Hogan was the choice . Alota people made alota money off these guys . Charisma .
He didn’t. He got a show named after him (The Arnold Classic) but not a Olympia.
if Arnold Schwarzenegger was my competition I probably wouldn't show up either.
Scotty Dirkers i would show up just to meet him
U have some problems
But if you did you'd have taken 2nd Place at a Mr. Olympia competition. Not many people can claim that for themselves ;)
Hahahahaaaaaaa
Thanks for cheering me up this morning! Very funny.
Give me your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle. “ TERMINATOR 2 “
Wow he looked insane in 1971. In fact, I even prefer his 1971 physique to that of 1974.
1968 Mr. Olympia Sergio Oliva won uncontested. All the other competitors withdrew and did not compete.
- Hugh - maybe he sent pictures in the mail of him posing to all the other competitors a week out and they realized they had no chance lmao
- Hugh - lol dude 😂😂😂
shane womeldorff probably did, he openly spoke about at defeating other competitors mentally before physically
Would love to see something on old bodybuilding physiques like this vs current day bodybuilding physiques.
Wow, Jason Genova was right! "Sometimes nobody shows up and you win"
lovesgibson lmao I was looking all over the comment section for this one 😂😂😂
+neverwoner w
You look at Arnold here and you see amazing legs and all the crap ppl talk about him is just hate.
BiodegradeableMan I was just thinking about that
amazing amazing eggs L

He looked good in '71, now he is 71 (practically)
Nick you are doing a great job !!! All the Bodybuilding industry should praise you. Seriuos journalism presented in a very easy way to follow and learn. Great job

high velocity, beautifully and more importantly perfectly put.
lee haney?
Greatest rib box ever .... expected on the greatest most masculine man ever.
Why you gotta diss on Platz? He had the best legs in bodybuilding. Freakish size and conditioning and aesthetics along with crazy strength.
Right. Arnold was massive, but not TOO massive. He pushed the envelope as far as he could just short of sacrificing aesthetics. Today, aesthetics is sacrificed on the altar of mass. But the thing is, they're only a little more massive than Arnold but HUGELY less aesthetic.

You're starting to become my new favorite fitness channel. You're giving us history
You do a great job with your videos Nick. Well-researched, objective and informative. Keep up the great work!! Mark.

Good stuff. I'm old. lived through this AND I THOUGHT I knew my stuff. You are very interestingly knowledgeable.
1:38 Arnold's chest is bigger than his head
Thanks for sharing your great testimony John S. and congratulations on the best and most important decision of your life.
Really good video . Usually I skip when people show pictures and talk but this guy is really good. Explains some history of the the Mr. Olympia really well . And his voice helps a lot .
Awesome content. Thanks Nick, you're a legend!
Hey man, I just wanna say your videos are really informative. I'm a young buck just getting into bodybuilding and you really inform me about the history. 🖤
Thanks man
I saw Serge Nubret shaking Arnold's hand. Have you already done a video on him? Love the videos and information, it's priceless!!
Killing it with the frequency Nick. Keep up the awesome work man!
Nick, love your videos, so informative and interesting. You do a great job! Thank you
you're doing an amazing job with these videos. thank you
the separation in Arnold's quads are amazing for 1971 he is at his best! thanks for the history lesson I wasn't born yet. 💪💪💪🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🔥
Arnold was perfection.
I never knew he was the only competitor in 71. Arnold had the best physique of all time. Total cobra.....super.
Never heard it before....perfect.
Best rib box in human history has to be on the best body in human history....a true Mr. Universe.
Remember O.C., Sergio Oliva had no competition in 1968 so it wasn't the first time it happened.
Great Job, well researched, and also well presented........Congratularions.
How far in advance did the competitors and/or Arnold know they were going to be disqualified?
About a week
Nick's Strength and Power what was up in '72 bro?
According to Wayne Gallasch, Sergio didn't find out until he arrived in Paris. I mean that does make sense because Sergio wouldn't have competed in the Universe knowing he'd be unable to enter the Olympia; don't think he'd travel from London to Paris just to guest pose.
Similar thing happened when they were going to ban Serge Nubret for the 1975 Olympia....
Nick, you should write a bodybuilding encyclopedia. I would be the first one to buy it!! You're doing a very good job with al this high level content, realy enjoyable and entertaining.
One of my favorite channels now.
Those days when people admired these body builder's body
I'm eating nutella and toast right now..
Sometimes no one shows up and you automatically win. - Janoy Cresva
you really come across like you know exactly what you're talking about - respect.
Enjoy all your videos. Great job!!!
Great channel man, keep up the great content.
doesnt matter who showed up, arnold blew them away anyway. legs were better than the next best guy avail. arms insane, chest, back.

Arnold in his prime. No one could touch this dude
no dought
Except himself 😛😛😛😛
Kona Abhi LOL
Just imagine if Arnold Schwarzenegger never retired in 1975. He could have easily won another 3 Olympias.
Just like Mike Tyson too, in his prime. Nobody touches him. Except maybe a Muhammad Ali or a young George Foreman🥊🥊
When it comes to bodybuilding news and history there is only ONE guy who shows up and that's Nick's Strength and Power!
Best bodybuilding's history channel ever
I like this guy good video man keep it up.been waiting for these video for a while now
Fuck being called Mr.President. I'd rather be called Mr.Universe
Great work bro, lot of important info as always...
You should talk about "banned" poses, the only one that comes to my mind is the "moon" pose but there may be history of others.
Nick, love your vids. You post so much I figure the least I could do would be to give you an idea for another video. Sergio's proportions: near perfect!
@05:46 Look how deep his lat run down his oblique. You don't see that with modern bodybuilders. Actually, when is the last time we saw it?
Another fantastic vid, brother!
That 1000 USD price is just enough to buy a flight ticket back home.
Ur crushing it 63,000 subscribers, keep up the great videos, you do a great job.
Thanks bro
Good thing Arnie's worth ~$300M now! Wow $1K 🤦🏻♂️

Bro you deserve way more recognition! very informative. thank you:)
You can see a huge difference in Arnolds calves from 1971 to 1974, in 74 they're huge!
Nick u are such an awsum dude buddy... I really appreciate your work and dedication.. love from India bro..
I think he looked pretty good during the pumping iron documentary. Was it 1975?
Great page Nick. Honestly your passion for bodybuilding is unrivaled, atleast on UA-cam. If you decide to take the next step in your own physique let me know. First supplements cycle on me.
Always love your videos man. Damn he was massive in his prime
was he legit the only competitor? then thats priceless XD great video btw
Another great one, thank you :D
Seven minutes of straight knowledge dropping !
non sanction policy, yup.. not relevant anymore like you said nick. another great upload.. appreciate you take your time, ya know its hours of perhaps of days of info gathering, fyi, been supporting your channel since 2012, i think the first video i watched was Phil Heath following your Twitter account. freaking long time ago! Thanks for your good work on the videos.💪😘
i've not still seen a guy with better biceps and pecs top notch definition/proportions
very interesting video. keep up the great work.

Fuck Arnold had some massive arms, he had massive everything tho😂

Massive cock too!🤤
I know that this channel is a bit more bb and wrestling oriented but if you could make a video about Malanichev and his progression over the years it would be neat ;)
"Do you think Arnold
looked good?" - asks the author.
Arnold always look good. It's just his thing.
Amazing shape in 1971. Even if other competitiors were allowed to compete, Arnold would win. The only drawback is that the People did not get the clash of Titans that they wanted.
damn, thanks for the explanation. always found it odd there was a lack of photos
Do a 1974 Olympia video
I've got one filmed and ready to post
cool 1974 was his best year he was massive and it's hard to find pics
He was 243 lbs at 1974.
Jeremiah Lownsbery 1974 is his best year, 250lb on stage and huge and shredded and just a fucking god body
1974 was his best year. Not as heavy as 1971 (243 lbs compared to 251.8 lbs in 1971), but he had more muscularity, lean, ripped and striated. He had mass to his upper chest, back and hamstrings (according to his book) so he was better proportioned in 1974.
Always good content in your videos!
Instant like crew checking in
My man
Thanks Nick
very interesting video. keep up the good work!
The relevancy lies now in keeping rivals or wannabe rivals as nonexistent as possible. Now it’s all about staying on top.
been subscribed since 4k your videos have been really well done keep it up.
Arnold look beast asf in this , his upper chest damn
Have you done a Bertil Fox video.. followed him during my school years and was devastated when he went to prison. Thank you for your amazing videos.. :)
Yep, I've already done one
Thank you will find in your library.
Arnold to bodybuilding is like Dark Side of the Moon to music, the Porsche 911 to cars, the Grand Seiko Spring Drive to watches. Arnold is the Bruce Lee of bodybuilding. There will always be bodybuilders. But among bodybuilders there will only ever be Arnold.
i learned something and i did not hear it from the lui.
amazing
Arnold did look fantastic as he would say . Great videos nick .
Sergio Oliva also had an Olympia all to himself as well.
Just subbed Nick, great research and content buddy💪🏻
