Hi Carl. Thank you for an excellent channel of knowledge! I have a comment on your demo of how to adjust the heat level on the grips of the 1250 GSA. I have a 2023 model but without seat heating. On those GSA`s that only have heated grips it is not possible to set an individual heat level on the grips with the “short cut access”. You can only select pre set level 1 & 2 and “OFF”. Good Evening Carl, had interesting conversation with my BMW dealer this morning as was enquiring about having my software updated to that in your video. I was told that BMW Motorrad has now instructed its dealer network not to offer software updates as a matter of course? Said updates are only to be offered to resolve a specific issue. Apparently the way it was sold to me - their rationale being that said updates cause more issues than they solve?
Hi Jon good evening. Might I gently suggest, that your dealer service department is just being awkward, the real reason is possibly… The software update takes between 2 and 2.5 hours, and depending on where “physically” in the workshop the PC update equipment is located, (normally its located in one specific work bay) dealers do not (if they are busy or its holiday season) like to take up this space for 2.5hours with none profit generating work, like a free software update. I think if you started to experience connectivity issues between your devices (TFT, Navi and phone), they would do the update. Wink / wink / smile… The software updates do improve things. Kindest Regards, Carl
Hello Graeme, thank you for the feedback, I presume you watched the episode to the end where I highlighted the hidden feature that allows you to use the heated element switch in the same way as the older systems. If only BMW told there customers of this extra feature it would make a lot of users very happy. Best wishes Carl
@@justthewayitis found the issue. found were it was located and it was unplugged for some reason. still in its socket just not snapped in. not sure how it came loose. but now all is good
My only gripe with the controls is that you have to be stopped to adjust the suspension settings anyway, so why not put that on the right side so with my left hand I can hit the Ride Mode/Heated Grips options without having to turn on cruise control or slow down from engine braking. Maybe I just need longer thumbs though 😆
Hi Johnathan, that’s true for only the Pre-load setting (Min-Auto-Max) Damper settings Dynamic and Road can be selected while riding and so can a change of Ride Mode be made while riding. Plus, if you choose your favourite 2 modes on the right bar you can switch between them without looking. Some say to many buttons… Some say not enough buttons… Lots to learn and it does take time. Smile 😊 have a great day Carl
@@justthewayitis Very true, the bike is still quite new to me and if that's literally the only personal gripe I could have, I think that's not too bad 😃 Have a great day as well Carl!
My dealer was not aware of this update, does it apply to UK variants or is it only applicable to DE versions? My 2019 R1250GSA bike is in for a new exhaust to fix the flap sticking and is also getting the new update from version 001_019_180 to the new march update hopefully.
Hi Roland, I am not 100% sure if it's a global update or only for DE, it makes more sense if it's a global version. I find the start up sequence much quicker, not that it was slow before. I hope they sort out the sticking exhaust valve, it's a common issue on many makes and models. Carl
I always long press buttons, just to see if something happens!!!! I got interested in buttons when I found out about bmw cars hazard button! Pull it out, rotate it 180 and push back in....car would start!!!!
It is so much easier on my 2012 RT. 1 button for the heated grips and one for the seat. I just need to cycle through the heat levels. This must be so disappointing to now have to go through complex menus when it could be done instantly 10 years ago... 😵
Car you should make a deep analysis of the BMW CONNECTED navigator...I consider it a great lost opportunity from BMW...perfect for commuting on normal paved road or highway..but completely useless if you may ride in the bush/offroad/gravel roads...the problem is the TOM TOM...the perfect bike for the "adventure" does not a proper navigator...thanks if you may investigate why BMW is missing this opportunity and still continue to work with TOM TOM
Hi Luke, generally I don’t use the connected app for navigation I use the Navi 6 which I really like mich more than the Garmin XT or Tom Tom but your suggestion is now noted 👍 and added to my list of things to look into. I do agree off-road it’s fairly poor ( the app) Carl
Hi Carl. please 🙏 can you subtitle this video in Spanish, I'm intrigued, my bike is the same as yours BMW GS 1250 Rally 2023 front and rear Brenbo brakes, not Haynes and it doesn't have those options, please
Ah ! Ok now that makes sense Ken. BMW firmware / software updates only come from bmw, so no you can’t add new software, you can make changes to it via the gs911 but you need be be aware that doing so immediately invalidates your warranty!!! I like the GS911 and it’s a great tool for diagnosis and workshop use. But be careful!! Carl

Hi Carl, I also have a Cardo intercom, mine is a Packtalk Bold, and when connected to the TFT and listening to music, if I turn my head left, it keeps stopping the music (mine is mounted on the left side of the helmet - BMW R1250GS 2021 with latest firmware). Do you also experience such thing? Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks.
Hello Joäo, good morning. We also use pack talk Bold, there has been an issue with these units since the new (two months ago) app update and i have been very disappointed with Cardo. perhaps you can send Cardo an email and let them know about your problem. Best Wishes Carl
Do i not have the right grip heat grip features i can only turn it it on
Will it be available after my first service
Hi Paul, please explain what heated grip features you currently have. And which model and specification you have.
Carl
FYI only get 5 heat settings on the heated grips if you opted for the heated seat option
Agree, the display and software is great. I had the Multistrada 1260 for 2 years, but the display and software just didn't functioned. And how about the navigation in the app. It's great and works perfect in conjuction with the display
Hi Antoine and welcome, yes I will release more episodes about the App and menu. The 1260 is a nice bike too. Carl
Might I gently suggest, that your dealer service department is just being awkward, the real reason is possibly…
The software update takes between 2 and 2.5 hours, and depending on where “physically” in the workshop the PC update equipment is located, (normally its located in one specific work bay) dealers do not (if they are busy or its holiday season) like to take up this space for 2.5hours with none profit generating work, like a free software update.
I think if you started to experience connectivity issues between your devices (TFT, Navi and phone), they would do the update. Wink / wink / smile…
The software updates do improve things.
Kindest Regards, Carl
What was wrong with having a heated grip switch? That did exactly the same without the faff!
Hello Graeme, thank you for the feedback, I presume you watched the episode to the end where I highlighted the hidden feature that allows you to use the heated element switch in the same way as the older systems. If only BMW told there customers of this extra feature it would make a lot of users very happy. Best wishes Carl
My TFT on the bottom left shows degrees of "---F" i dont get a temperature listing... what gives?

It’s all in the owners book, let know if you have further problems with changing it
Carl
@@justthewayitis found the issue. found were it was located and it was unplugged for some reason. still in its socket just not snapped in. not sure how it came loose. but now all is good
Well done 👍
Great detective work 🙋🏻♂️
My only gripe with the controls is that you have to be stopped to adjust the suspension settings anyway, so why not put that on the right side so with my left hand I can hit the Ride Mode/Heated Grips options without having to turn on cruise control or slow down from engine braking. Maybe I just need longer thumbs though 😆
Hi Johnathan, that’s true for only the Pre-load setting (Min-Auto-Max)
Damper settings Dynamic and Road can be selected while riding and so can a change of Ride Mode be made while riding.
Plus, if you choose your favourite 2 modes on the right bar you can switch between them without looking.
Some say to many buttons…
Some say not enough buttons…
Lots to learn and it does take time.
Hi Terry welcome to the channel and thank you for sharing 👍
Regards Carl
It is so much easier on my 2012 RT. 1 button for the heated grips and one for the seat. I just need to cycle through the heat levels. This must be so disappointing to now have to go through complex menus when it could be done instantly 10 years ago... 😵
Hi David, welcome. Lol... yes indeed.
I do agree off-road it’s fairly poor ( the app)
Carl
Hi Carl. please 🙏 can you subtitle this video in Spanish, I'm intrigued, my bike is the same as yours BMW GS 1250 Rally 2023 front and rear Brenbo brakes, not Haynes and it doesn't have those options, please
Hi Pedro, ok I’ll do them tomorrow and message you once they are done 👍
@@justthewayitis Muchas gracias
Hasta ahora comencé en el episodio 1 y terminé hasta el episodio 9 en español. Haré más después.
Carl
Can you use to update the bikes software?
Hi Ken, sorry I don’t understand your question about software updates?
Please ask again using different words
Thank you Carl
My mistake! I was on the wrong video! I was previously watching a. Video of the GS911 tool for these bikes!
Carl
plz i have 1250 tft i want to change theme how
Hi there, I don’t fully understand your question , you can’t change the theme or look on the dashboard on a 1250gs.
Please ask your question again more clearly
Carl
i have tft bmw gs 1250 adventure i want to change theme to BMW LC
not the theme i mean the picture of gs adventure/lc/ f800...etc on tft
Sorry it’s not possible…
Well they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks , so after 1 year I learn a different way to do this many thanks, I will forward to my dealer her in N.I. they need educated ...lol
Hi RMG, great news, if you could let me know here if it works for you and which model/year you have. Thankyou Carl
@@justthewayitis Yes it did work is a 2021 r1250 gs triple black sent a vid to you
Hi RMG, thats great news, I am pleased it works for you too. Have a great weekend. Carl
Just had a look on your channel, are they Road 5'S on your TB ?, and how have you found them ?... some owners say the front is noisey. Carl
@@justthewayitis Hi Carl
Yes they are road 5 they are superb and not noisy, The anakee is noisy , I raced and always looked at tyres as black sticky and round, but on a 18k bike with your good lady you need to be a little more sure. Two up and 100mph in the wet these are better than the tyres I raced on in the 90's great confidence, back gets about 8k front around 11 k so not bad .
I was this year's old when I learned that there's a long press feature for the heating elements. 😳 You can learn new stuff from an Eastender.
Lol...great. I hope you enjoy the series. Carl
@@justthewayitis on that note, it says there are four vids in that playlist but two are hidden. 🤷🏻♂️
Error corrected: These were videos i am currently editing. I release one per week and this week its the 9th episode of the Multistrada series. The continuation of the GS series (of which there many more to come) will follow after that. Carl
👍
Thank you Franco 🙋🏻♂️
BMW completely failed at the interface and hardware of the digital dash. Best described by the title of this video. 'Hidden Features' If BMW was doing their job well, there wouldn't be 'Hidden Features'.
Hi, I think some BMW dealers are aware of this feature and do inform new owners, but its clear some do not know about this. This is why I released a video about this tip. I do like the dashboard but the one thing that could be much better, is an easy simple way to reset the standard trip meter. Best wishes Carl
Carl, i have the same software you have when i bought my S1000XR 4 mos ago. i have too many problems like cardo, TFT and iphone. music constantly disconnects. i insisted my bmw tech to do a running check and they found out there is a new SW updates! i am rocking this version for over 2 weeks now and all my issues were gone specially with music. no more cutting audio. the software version is 023_11_060. ask for a running check because they will tell you overnight! it will say at first 2hrs for the update but when it rolls it will take only 20mins for the update.
Hi Ad78, brilliant feedback, I actually have to call my dealer to speak to them this week, so I will ask about the new software update. Thankyou 👍Carl
