At 69 years old I just updated from a 2012 RT to a 2023 RT and did not like the app after trying it for 1 day. Granted one day is not a fair trial but it left me with a headache and a feeling it will never be satisfactory. That being so, I am now looking for ways to leave the phone disconnected from the bike and mount my iPhone 14 pro where it is visible and use it with my Cardo Edge and Shure SE215 earphones. This setup on my 2012 RT worked very well for navigation. It was very user-friendly with the phone mounted right above the instrument cluster providing easy access to navigation, phone, texts and spotify and great sounding music. Seemed far more optimal than using the BMW connected App .
Hey there. Agree there are limitations with the Motorrad App but there are with most some kind of limitations. I have yet to find the perfect do all app. Cheers. Billy
If you use the wonder wheel to go to the navigation section on the TFT it will show the total distance and riding time to the destination and keep the arrows visible on the screen (confirming your still on the right track). You can also use the wonder wheel to start a new route to a pre-stored favorite or a recent destination and you can also change the routing options. This means you can just go on a random ride, and then check how much time it would take to get home, while on the go and if there is still some time left switch to winding roads and then as the weather turn bad switch to fastest again :)
Hi Jan. Thanks for your message. I was not aware of this. Great info. You're clearly more of an expert on this than me. Thanks for sharing this info. Cheers. Billy
@@JoelSc14 great question. Honestly I don’t know but experience tells me it’s about the same as google. Which is fairly quick unfortunately. I have my phone plugged in though when riding. Sorry I could not be more precise Cheers. Billy
That is a good question. I don't recall seeing an option in the settings section to switch this off. One sure way would be to not connect your phone to your bike. I will have a look and see if I can find that out. I am guessing not as this then goes against the way they have built this to interact with the TFT. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Hi Billy, by now I have received my 1250 GSA with the original BMW Cradle. With the iPhone mounted into the cradle, the navigation on the iPhone changes and looks completely different. I would say a 200% improvement!
Nice video. A question: I love the app, and use it on every ride, but am confused as to why when I select the star icon in a given ride (from the Recorded Rides main screen), that ride does NOT get added to my Favorites list? I would assume that that is what the star icon is for, and it DOES turn to blue when clicked indicating something is happening, yet the ride is not added to Favorites. A bug in the app perhaps?
Great video with a lot of valuable information. I was able to follow your instructions and they were point on. However, I’m having an issue with the connectivity to the bike. I have a 2022 R18 Transcontinental and it was connecting and it doesn’t.
Was very helpful. I am trying to add a second BMW and have been trying for an hour how to figure how to do that. No where do I see ''ADD MOTORCYCLE''. How do you have 2 motorcycles in the Garage APP?
Hi Nuno. Thanks for watching and your comments / question. Key to good set up is sound. I use a flexi boom mic from Amazon as it tends to reduce external sound much more and this makes it much more clear on the video. Cheers. Billy
Thank you for the in depth view. I ordered a BMW F750GS and guess I will play a lot with the TFT display and the app. It was nice getting a glance at that stuff while I am still waiting for my bike to be delivered. :)
Thanks Wolle704 for your msg. I have been thinking about the 850 instead of 1200, better for off road. Enjoy the 750, v nice. Great to hear that the app review helped. Let me know if you have any more questions👍🏼. Ride safe. Billy
Hi billy, thanks for nice video, very helpful to me. A question, you did not mention HOW TO CONNECT THE PHONE TO THE 6.5" TFT OF THE BIKE ? I have bought a ConnectedRide device last week for 110C$ and now, I see that that device is a bit " UNNECESSARY" as I can connect my phone to TFT . can you explan a bit in these regards?
Thank you so much for taking the time to cover this as it was immensely helpful, something Bmw should have thought of putting together. I’m a bit of a techie dinosaur so although I’ve had the bike and the app for a while I’ve not used the app yet but will do so now. Top marks earned a sub.
Only had the bike for 6 days, rode it from London to home in the south of France in that time with the BMW app. The mount arrived just after I got home. Your video was informative as I was not sure if it would work in landscape, now I know. Lost connection to the Sena in the helmet a few times, but still a great app. Thanks for the information.
Hi Bob. Glad that my review helped. It not changing to landscape until you are on the move is a little weird but it works well. Nice place to be S France. I was there last year riding over the Pyrenees, beautiful. Another trip next year in France. Good luck and ride safe. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures I won't be over there with the bike, you have too many speed cameras and cats eyes in the UK! If you are ever in the Dordogne area and want a free guide or two, the GF and I are both bikers and know this area very well.
Hopefully we can still catch up for a beer when you are over next. Very kind of you, I am likely to take you up on your offer of tour guide when in France next. 👍🏼
Hi. Can you please tell me why my phone screen goes off when connected to the cradle? Should the app control the phone screen or do I need to set my screen to on all the time? Great blog by the way!
Thanks for the video. Picked my F750 GS up on the 1st Sept and have been having difficulty with some features. The instruction manual is rubbish. Your video solved the missing pieces and think I’ve now finally cracked it. For anyone else who sees this, I splashed out on the BMW smart phone cradle as I thought this would be more useful and cheaper than the sat nav unit. It’s great as you can see the map while seeing the turn by turn but ultimately it’s just a very expensive waterproof mount for your phone. Not sure if I’d do it again next time. I assumed that I’d only get full function with the cradle, seems not! That said, I do like having it there.
Hi Simon. Thanks for your message. Hope you are loving you new F750. You make a good point on the wonder wheel not being functional with the cradle. I should have included it in the video. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼. Ride safe. Billy
Ah, you tomorrow Wednesday, I thought of said as a day ahead. Where about a in the UK. I’m in Cambridge dry but very flat even the green lanes are flat
I still prefer the Navigator 6 for the simple reason that I then can disable the recalculate route option before importing the route and it will not send you straight to the finish when diverting from the route.
That is a very useful option as I really don't like it when you get redirected back to a way point that has been missed as it helps that as well. Hope the Nav 6 continues to work well for you. Cheers Billy
I run the app on android with the same mount as you. It's a great bit of kit and unless you are doing a lot of off roading or a round the world trip I can't see why you would shell out for the nav 6. The fact it doesn't rotate till you move off threw me the 1st time 😂. It would be handy to be able to add the speed camera alerts 😎
I totally agree. great bit of kit for less than £30. Absolutely worth it. Not doing any international beyond EU so my phone works everywhere. Don't take the beamer off road so not a worry that it wont work.
Hi. Thanks for the informative video. Is there an option in the app to change the tft screen to show the turn by turn all the time or does it change itself back to the normal screen? I have used the on screen navigation once, as I just got the bike, but it was permanently on the turn by turn screen even when I was riding on a straight streach of the road with no turn to come for a few miles. Thanks
Bye. First of all, congratulations on a very clear and precise description. I have a question to ask you hoping you can help me. When I started using the app I could see the maps on the phone screen in 3D mode. Now, instead, they are in 2D mode and I can't get back to the previous view. Can you help me?
When I am out on my ride with no particular destination in mind my BMW App used to record my route as I went which I could go back later to look at all of my ride data and if I liked the ride I could go back and re-ride the route. For some reason the app doesn't seem to record the ride and does not come up in my ride history. I have tried reconnecting and all of the usual resets without success. Looking for any thoughts or guidance on regaining this useful function. Thank you.
Hi there. Thanks for getting in touch. On the home screen of the app, bottom right 3 dots, tap this, then journey settings. Is the journey tracking option on? This may be the issue if not on. Let me know. Cheers. Billy
I like the app but it keeps disconnecting and it doesn’t sometimes track the journey which like on a ride to home from Kendal was disappointing I think I’m going to wipe everything and start again , did you do anything special when you conected up . My gsa is a 21 te like yours .great video keep em coming Billy .
Hi Dale. Thanks for watching and your comments. Nothing special. The only thing I would recommend is going into the app settings to ensure that you have it set up the way you want it set up. Let mw know if any help needed. Stay safe. Billy
Very interesting video. I just have one question, when i have downloaded a route import GPX file and open it, i notice it has two route options, typically one option will have say 13049 support points and the other will have perhaps 20, which one should i use?
I would use the one with more so that you have a much more accurate route to the one you downloaded. Sometimes, different apps wont recognise certiain parts for a route so the more the better to be honest.
Hi Jompa. Thanks for watching, comment and question. The phone cradle in this videos is a cheap generic one. There are some links in the video description via the drop down button to see more info. BMW had released their own phone cradle but they have just increased the price to £200 here in the UK so I have opted not to buy one as too expensive for what it is. Hope that helps. Billy

What's the best Route Criteria for fast winding roads. I have tried many different route options and it always wants to take me down a dirt lane, even with "Avoid Dirt Roads" selected. We like fast A and B roads with sweeping bends and I can't seem to find the perfect settings for this. Great video.
found the answer. map detail is adjustable with the wonder wheel with the map visible on the bike in map mode, by first clicking the wonder wheel "out" to navigate to the left side of the map (toward the magnifying glass icon in the left margin). Then just spin the wheel for zoom level. Dont know why I missed that on my first ride!
Great video, thanks. I've got my first BMW GSA same bike as yours in the video, I've got all features from app and TFT connected, but for some reason my phone contacts don't show on my TFT, do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've asked all the facebook groups I've joined and followed all advice but to no avail, please help if possible. keep the videos coming there very informative. Thanks Steve
Hi Steve. Apologies only just seeing this. I have checked the app to see if there is a setting that may be affecting this but nothing standing out as obvious at the moment. I will keep looking though as i know this is probably frustrating. Hope to come back to you in a day or two. Cheers Billy
Excellent information presented clearly and concisely. Makes me glad that I didn't spring for the $900 BMW NAV6, which has been discontinued. THANK YOU!
Thanks. You too. I'm a longtime rider in the U.S. and just got my first BMW, a 2020 1250GS three days ago, and am still learning the controls, etc. Your videos have been a big help.
Welcome to the GS world. I was a convert in 2019. KTM 1290 super adventure R before that. The GS is great for adventure touring. Probably most comfortable bike I have ridden. Would not take it off road though. Just too darn big. Stay safe Barry and let me know if there are any other questions you have. Cheers. Billy
Excellent overview, looking forward to the recently announced BMW app cradle that fits into the Nav holder. as I have a my 2017 without TFT. Have been using Scenic App on my iPhone. Best Nav app so far.
HI D Gomes. Thanks for watching and your message! Yes very exciting about the BMW cradle. Here in the uk its a price of £188. Thats a lot of money. I am waiting to hear from BMW Motorrad if they will send my a press sample so I can review it. There are some improvements over the previous app version to come when connected to the cradle. I am in the middle of recording an initial review ahead of actually getting one. I have tried Scenic once before but did not really get on with it so have been using Calimoto for some time and really like it. Stay safe. Billy
Hi this is super helpful - one question - do we need the map downloaded first for the recording to occur ? I rest some stuff on the bike and went for a ride and today’s ride wasn’t recorded on the app but I do see it synced with the bike and updated fuel range etc - am I missing something?? Thanks in advance
HI there. Thanks for watching and your question. Check the settings on the app by clicking on the 3 dots bottom right hand corner and then click on journey settings to see if 'tour recording' radio button is click on. If on then make sure you download the update to maps as there may have been some changes that stop the recording until the map is updated. kLet me know how you get on. Cheers. Billy
Hi, thank you for doing this. When my phone is in portrait mode I get the same info as you, so distance of journey & arrival time, but when it flicks to landscape I don’t see this. Do you know how I can permanently see these details? Cheers, Michael
Presumably this is for TFT bikes only. Mine is a 2014 R1200GS TE with analogue dials. App keeps saying "connect to motorcycle for all functions" - and as I can't, it won't start the navigation. It will find my destination and show the route but won't start. Unless I am missing something stupid which could well be the case. Presumably if I buy the Motoradd connected ride cradle then I can use the app, or just stay with "Waze" in my existing £15 cradle 🙂
Hi Mark. This will work with bikes from 2018 onwards with the TFT screens. So sounds like your bike is older. I would not get the BMW cradle either, very expensive for what it is and does. Stick with Waze would be my recommendation. Good lick. Cheers. Billy
Fantastic video. I have a 2021 S1000xr and the connected app. I am wondering how the app retrieves its data... Do you think that a bluetooth connection between the TFT and a Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 camera would allow for the captute of the BMS's data?
Hi Robert. Thanks for watching the video, your comment 👍👍 and your question. You have now gone beyond the intelligence I have about this. I am now fumbling in the dark on this question. It would be good to know if it works and how it does this if you find the answer. I normally try to find the answer if there is a question I am unsure about, I would not know how to start research on this question. Good luck with it though! Cheers. Billy
Hi SWFlowseeker. Thanks for watching and your comment / question! I am not sure if there is a difference iOS and Android platforms or if there are differences between the same platforms in different countries. I recorded the video in the UK with the UK version. Sorry I could not be more help. I will email the product team at BMW Motorrad about this to see if I can get an answer. Do you have an example where it is different so I can use this in my enquiry to them? Stay safe. Billy
Hi, great informative video. Thanks heaps. I've only just picked up my bike and downloaded the APP. I have ridden bike a number of times but it has only recorded the 1 ride. Do you know how add another ride? Thank you.
Great video, have the app and phone connects to tft, shows my ride (do you have to connect every time?) and my media is connected and plays, but doesn't show my contacts? any ideas?
HI David. Thanks for watching and your comment / questions. You should not have to connect every time. First time connection should automatically connect each time after that as long you don't delete from you bluetooth list. That said, i have seen comments that have mentioned this but I have not seen it in my experience. This was always the case with my KTM 1290 SAR (that I don't have any more). Regarding your contacts, just check you have given permission to the app / TFT to access your contacts. Hope that helps. Stay safe Billy
I find that if someone rings me whilst I am using the nav within the app, if the call is long enough the phone screen closes down. The nav is working in the back ground but once the call is finished I have to stop, take my glove off and open the phone screen again to see the app and nav screen. How can I ensure that this doesn’t happen?
Warning. While the Cradle worked well for me, the bottom arm just broke last week. This is a very thin piece of plastic and it snapped at the base of the U shape, on both sides simultaneously. I purchased it less than a year ago, used it maybe a total of 12 times (not needed for daily commutes). With this piece broken the phone is not secured and the whole device is useless.
Hi there. Thanks for watching and your comments! This has happened to me before, however, not until after 2 years with multiple use. Sorry that you had a poor experience. Cheers Billy
Hi Omar. Thanks for letting me know. I have just updated the link for the UK and is also here. Yes it does clip in to the GPS preparation on the BMWs, really great bit of kit. amzn.to/2VdSVSH
@Billys Bike Adventures, I have a similar question to this. It looks like we use the same mount, however, the vibrations from the bike damaged the camera on my iPhone 11 and I had to replace it. Is this not an issue with the older iPhone 7? I now have a 13 and I am concerned about mounting it for fear that the vibrations will damage the camera again. Any suggestions?
Hi Joe. I have moved away from that mount now and bought a Garmin xt with Touratexh mount for it. I figure that at least it's meant to be on the bike where as a phone is not.
Hi Wak Jak. Hope this helps. Home screen, bottom right hand corner, 3 dots, tap this. then tap on 'map settings'. then check box 'auto' under 'map orientation on lock screen during ride'. Once your phone is in its holder and then you start moving that the screen will orientate from portrait to landscape. Let me know how you go. Stay safe. Billy
Hi Tim. Thanks for watching and your message! Like most other nav apps, you can download maps to your phone via the app to ensure no interruption to your navigation when your signal may drop. Obviously not required for every trip but dependant on where you are riding, it is very worth while. Cheers. Billy
Just found your channel, Very good video Billy, I wanted to know if the BMW connected app still functions when you don't have cell phone service? Thanks
HI Kienfee. Thanks for watching and you message. Like most apps, if you have downloaded the offline maps for the location that you are riding in then your GPS capability within your phone that most phones have now should mean that you can still navigate via the app. Hope that helps and let me know if you have other questions.Stay safe. Billy
Question? Was that iPhone just in an Phone mount for motorcycle? Or do they make a clip that goes on your phone and you can install it in your pre-mounted GPS mount?

Is there a way you can get the instructions on the phone ( how far there is to go in time and miles ). I can get it on the tft screen but not on the app. I always prefer to have the tft screen as the speedo and rev counter
@@BillysBikeAdventures thanks for the reply, do you know if there’s any updates in the pipeline that might put this on ? I think it would be a great addition ( the tft flips from that screen to rev counter screen quite a lot ) Thanks
Hi Richard. Thanks for watching! The only thing mounted to my handlebars is a GoPro camera that is recording the TFT screen. It's mounted on a RAM mount. Is that what you are talking about? Cheers. billy
thanks for that!! Great video. Explains so carefully. I already down- (or is it up-)loaded the app from the beginning. The thing is i have the navigator vi but this phone app just seems so much simpler to use. The next question is - can i get the route from the app onto the navigation 6? I guess what some would say is if I have the nav6 why would I use the app - but so far I have found this app much more easier to use. Your comment or observation would be much appreciated.
Hi told. Thanks for watching and your comment / question. Great to hear the video was helpful. I have not used any of BMWs Nav devices so unable to comment on how to get your Nav 6 to receive a GPS file. That said I would imagine it is pretty straight forward. There is probably an app for it. As example I have a Garmin XT and I use the Garmin drive app to send the gox file to my Garmin XT. I will do a video on that next week as I am away at the moment. Save any gpx file to a file you can access through your phone (cloud storage). Then go to file, open via Garmin drive and as long as the Garmin drive app has been linked to my XT then opening the gpx file with Garmin drive will automatically send the file to my Garmin XT. BMW Nav 6 are Garmin so I expect it's the same process. When you next switch on your GPS device you should have on screen a notification to say that riles or tracks or routes have been received. Hope that helps. Cheers. Billy
Hi Jean. Been out this morning, very windy but good to get out. I used approx 1.6MB of data per hour today. Not too bad I don't think. I believe that the Apple Maps is above 1.0mb for 20 mins. Hope that helps. Ride safe

Hi Bill, Thanks a lot for that very helpful tour My Gs1250 has 2 devices connected. I can fully access everything from the first device, but I can not download the navigation/map on the second device. Do you know why? Is it allow only 1 device to connect to the bike?
Hi Dat. You should be able to connect at least two devices to the bike in the 'settings' and then 'connections'. The most obvious reason for one of your devices not connecting would could be the device itself but I guess you would know that if it was the device. Apart from that, I am not sure why its not connecting. Might be worth asking your BMW dealer to update the software on the bike if it has not had this yet. Hope you get it sorted. Stay safe. Billy

Thanks for your video in Motorrad Connected Drive App. I have been using it gor 6 months and I am very pleased with it. During a full days ride to final destination I might have 3-4 stops. The app is recording each stop as a stand alone ride. Please inform how can I have all those individually recorded rides into one. AND Is there a setting that prevents that Idividual recording of intermediate rides and record a whole daily ride? Thanks in advance. S.

It stays on the original screen/instruction. Stop the bike, and the location has changed...what's going on please? (on not, as the case may be!) Cheers in anticipation. Derek
HI Derek. Thanks for watching and your comments! An interesting one. The only thing i can think of is that if you have not stopped the last route that you did and then enter another one then it perhaps is thinking it is an additional stop rather than a destination. Thats my initial thought. It may also be a bug in the app that need fixing perhaps. I will give mine a go through the week and come back to you. Just check that you have the latest version of the app as well. Not sure that will help much but let me know if it continues. Cheers. Billy

Hi Billy, Thanks a lot for that very helpful tour! Learned a lot in 15 min. There is one thing I'm wondering about though: how can I import a route from someone else, on my phone, in the app? Do I need to download it first on the cell phone? Should it be a particular format? Where can I find such routes? I'm trying to get some inspiration for new rides through Belgium (close to Brussels).
Hi Door De Vloer thanks for your message and question. You will need to receive the file as a GPX file then download it to a location that your phone can access. Then in the Motorrad app second icon from the left at bottom, then top right 3 dots, then click import and locate the file that was sent to you. As easy as that. I have not tried this yet so will need to do this and post on my channel. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info. Good luck. Ride safe. Billy 👍🏼

Does the bike know where it is even if you don’t record your last ride? I deleted my last ride and then I went to the map on the Connected app and clicked the motorcycle and it showed the bike at the location of the previous ride. This mean the bike does not have any GPS and solely relies on the phone for its location, which frankly isn’t very secure if your bike gets stolen. Am I right that the bike doesn’t know where it is without the phone?
Hi Daniel. You are correct that the phone would be needed to know where the bike is, unless of course you have a tracker placed on the bike. Thanks for watching and your comments / question. Cheers Billy
Hi this is great, I downloaded the app the other day but didn't use it for navigation ect. I didn't think I had any use for it. You have definitely convinced me to try it on the road. I don't understand the sat nav appearing on the tft. Is this automatic? Also what maps does this use and how do you think this compares to Calimoto? I have Calimoto but not used that either because they want £40 per year which I'm very tempted albeit reluctant to pay but want to wait for the summer. BTW I bought a 2018 GS with tft last week so I'm a noob. Love the bike I just need this dam weather to improve so I can put some miles on it. I bought the phone mount from your other video looks great although I did buy a 10cm USB C lead for it which looks better than the supplied pink one. Ride safe, take care 👍
Hi Craig. Thanks for watching and your message. Calimoto is better than the Motorrad app in my opinion. With Calimoto you can plan a route on a lap top where as you can with the motorrad app. That said you can always plan a route on any desktop nav planner and then import to the motorrad app so swings and roundabouts. The motorrad app has got better but I still think Calimoto is still better. I am not sure what maps the motorrad app uses but makes no difference for me as not using it much any more. I would recommend the £40 for the Calimoto app i thinks its worth it. The GS is a greta bike and I was surprised how much I like it . The phone cradle is really good value. Enjoy your GS when you get out and let me knwo if you have any other questions. Stay safe. Billy
HI Alan Thanks for watching the video and your question. The app information states that it has 'up-to-date traffic information'. Not sure that is quite the same as live updates. I have not used the Motorrad app when there has been heavy traffic so can't help further than that unfortunately. Stay safe. Billy
It is a real pity the TFT does not display the 'background' map (as seen on the phone) as well, e.g., if ones phone is in a pocket, tank bag or the like. Seeing a 'background' map is important for perspective when riding in an unfamiliar area. Perhaps a 'software update' from BMW Motorrad would fix the problem?!
It would nice if they did but I think the TFT is too small to achieve a decent size graphic for this. I agree with you though on the benefit of seeing the road ahead on a map when riding unfamiliar locations. Lets wait and see if they configure the GS to accommodate the larger TFT they have on some of their other bikes. Thanks for watching! Cheers Billy
Hi Billy, can you do a review of iPhone mount for the bike at all? To be honest, I’m looking for a hard case (waterproof) case, but not sure what you would recommend? Thanks in advance.
Hi suffolkmick. Thanks for message. Happy to do a review of mounts. Might be a couple of weeks away as I am away from Friday on a trip for 5 days so will look to do one in my return. Cheers. Billy
I was in the BMW workshop and they updated the software of the bike. Also, I updated the software of the Bluetooth SENA (New 10S) and I updated the software of my new iPhone 11 Pro. None of this has helped. The Favorites option still does not appear in the Telephone Menu.
Hello friends. I have a 2020 R 1250 GS. The TFT screen is correctly connected to my iPhone and my SENA 10S Intercom. However, in the Telephone Menu: The Phone Book and Call List appear correctly but FAVORITES do not appear. This makes making a call very cumbersome because the contact list is very large.
does voice control work on the sena / phone combination. so rather than looking for a contact, can you just tell your phone to call the contact you want? Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Voice control doesn't work on the SENA when paired with the BMW TFT. That should be the perfect solution to "voice control" the phone number you need to call, but unfortunately it doesn't work either.
The other way that it might work is if you can voice control your phone (TFT and phone should pair to sena) to ask for directions. Don’t know if that will work but you may have to go to the Siri settings if iPhone and turn off the other nav apps you have to not work with Siri. Just an idea. Good luck. Will investigate more next week when I have more time 👍🏼
Your explanation on how to use the app was good. Helpful to get this set up. Unfortunately the app itself and the connected experience is essentially useless. Wildly overcomplicated in the usual German fashion. BMW could have simply saved themselves and the end user a lot of trouble by using Android auto etc. The largest and most accessed map in the world, google maps cannot be used to send route info to the bikes head unit. One must use BMW's software or go thru the time consuming task of converting a google route via link to a GPX conversion program. None of this is impossible, just far more fussy than necessary. Mounting your phone via quad lock and using the free Google Apps/Maps we all know how to use is vastly simpler and more detailed, as Google maps will find fuel stations, restaurants, hotels etc as well. Google maps will also update with road closures accidents etc in real time (with data connection of course). In short this app does less with more difficulty than what your phone does already. What was BMW hoping to accomplish with this? The BMW owner has already dropped XXXXX thousands of dollars/pounds/euro's etc and as this app provides no value to the owner, it must somehow be calculated to provide value to BMW.
For those of us who have the Nav5 or Nav6, what's the best way to maximum the use of this app? Seems like it's more geared for folks who don't have the nav...
Hi Rob. That’s a great question. Have not used the Nav 5/6 so unable to give any insight on this. I can ask that question in a video I am doing on navigation apps soon. Cheers. Billy
Billy, excellent video. Thank you. Quick question? I've worked out how to use waypoints to put routes together and save them within the App. However, when riding I can only access recent and favourite routes and not saved routes. Any idea how to convert saved routes to favourite routes so that I can access them on the TFT screen? I'm sure I'm doing something stupid!! ATVB.
Hi James. That is s super good question! And I am not sure. I was just looking abd not sure how to do this. I will keep searching to get an answer for you. If you find out before me it would be good to know. I know have to favourite a recorded route but not a saved one. Fingers crossed. Billy
Thanks Billy. Appreciated. That's where I'm up to. I suppose if I start a saved route (initiating with my mobile rather than my TFT) even for a short distance, then the saved route becomes a recorded route which I will be able to "favourite" and therefore start from my TFT in the future. Will try it out and let you know. ATVB.
Billy, just an update. I started a saved route on my iphone for a short distance in the hope that it would evolve into a recorded route on the Connected App (thus allowing me to favourite it and allow me to access it from my TFT in the future). Alas, it didn't work. It might be me or my set up? At the end of the day, it's not a big deal in any case. When I get round to riding one of my saved routes, I can simply start it from my iphone. A slight hassle but not a real problem in the big scheme of things! ATVB.
The only thing I find annoying is when you select a continuous route with a few towns…..unless you drive past the actual destination you select it will continually try and re route you back to that point. I thought it might have been like google maps, once you’ve ridden past the pin dropped place it should work out your heading to the next town and let you continue your journey, perhaps I’m doing something wrong, your help would be great. Regards Brenton
Hi brentonwilliams7085: you are so right and agree it is annoying. To be fair, the Motorrad app is not the only app to do that, Calimoto does it as well and is so frustrating. I don't know the answer for your question but I will write to BMW Motorrad and ask them for feedback. Cheers Billy
When I click on the map icon to start a new route, the map opens up but it does not have the search function showing at the top of the screen. I’ve contacted BMW connected customer services about it but the haven’t bothered to respond
HI Robert. Sincere apologies for not responding. For some reason you went in as spam so this has only just popped up in my inbox in UA-cam. Great to hear that you have it sorted. What was the issue? Thanks for you comment and for watching the video. Stay safe. Billy
Hi Adrian. I don't believe there is a choice for constant display on the TFT, turn by turn only unfortunately. Unless that is they introduce the larger TFT to the GS at some stage. Thanks for watching and your question. Cheers Billy
Hi Billy. Just down loaded the BMW app to use with my GSA Adventure TFT. Not used it out yet doing that tomorrow. It looks very easy to use so looking forward to it. I have a Nav 5 that came with the my last bike so may use it in this one. The Nav 5 is ok to monitor the bike, show you the road ahead as well as other things, but as a sat nav setting a route and putting what roads you choose it’s not the best. It tells you where it wants you to go rather than you choose so it’s not that brilliant. As I said the app looks just what I want so will see tomorrow. Subbed your channel, you explain things very well. Looking forward to some more, I am from the north of the county and know Cambridge very well. 👍
Hi JohnnyGSA. Thanks for msg and subbing. Appreciate the support! Great to hear the Motörhead app video was helpful. I have heard similar things with the sat navs and so purposely stay away from using them. A good app like the Motorrad app is great. You can also load GOX files to it from previous or download routes. Where about in the north Johnny? Cheers. Billy 👍🏼
Thanks for the reply, used it today on tour of south Cambridgeshire it works very well I am pleased with it well recommend. I am in March Fenland, never know might meet up if your out this way. Cheers John
Download the app I pick my new GSA up next week . I also use Calimoto that is working perfectly so far will be interesting to see the differences, great video I have subscribed 👍
Hi Dale. Thanks for watching the video and subscribing! 👍🙏 Is this your first GSA / GS? I used Calimoto on my last trip to Wales at the beginning of June. Great, one issue is that if I missed a way point the app would redirect me back to the way point. A bit of a pain. I don't know if the Connected app does that. WIll check it out this weekend as I head over to the ABR festival. Stay safe mate. Billy

Ah great experience of BMW. They know as soon as most people out the backsides on a GS its pretty much a done deal. How could you resist. Agree Reiten Motorrad are one of the best. Service service service, excellent. They are my choice of garage as well. Not yet been to one of their sausage sizzles but look forward to that when they start up again. Great that you are local.
Cheers. Billy
very nice, I was curious how to see more nav information, (how is the battery drain for the connected app, say if your phone was in a pocket ??)
@@JoelSc14 great question. Honestly I don’t know but experience tells me it’s about the same as google. Which is fairly quick unfortunately. I have my phone plugged in though when riding. Sorry I could not be more precise Cheers. Billy
Is it possible to have the turn-by-turn information on the TFT turned off, so that it won’t pop-up every turn?
Thanks!
When using the TFT directions will it give you voice promps to a headset.
Great explanation of how the connect app works.😊
I did learn today you need to be logged in for it to capture rides. You can use the maps but it won’t save them if you are not logged in
Ah yes, you do need to be logged in! Thanks for pointing that out! Cheers. Billy
Great video and review of the app and connectivity. Question for you, what recording setup do you use? The audio was so clear and crisp. Thank you.

Hi mate. Let me have your email or mobile and i iwll record a short video how to do this? Cheers. Billy
Thank you so much for taking the time to cover this as it was immensely helpful, something Bmw should have thought of putting together. I’m a bit of a techie dinosaur so although I’ve had the bike and the app for a while I’ve not used the app yet but will do so now. Top marks earned a sub.
Hi Steve. Thanks for watching and your feedback. Great to hear that they content helped. Hope you get on with the app! Cheers. Billy
Cheers. Billy

Ride safe. Billy
Billys Bike Adventures thanks Billy. Lovin it. Little trip planned for tomorrow/ Wednesday 👍
Nice. You must be in Australia or elsewhere in APAC? Hope dry for you tomorrow 👍🏼
Billys Bike Adventures nah, UK but braving it. Only picked the bike up last week and just want to get out there and enjoy it. What’s a little rain!
Really clear - very many thanks. Even clearer because you rode passed my house so the mapping was very understandable!!
Thanks Patrick. Great to hear the video helped and that the location was familiar for you. Any questions let me know. Stay safe. Billy 👍
Excellent video, persuaded me to stay with my order for the connectivity option on my bike purchase.
Thank you Gatu. Glad to hear you found the content useful👍🏼ride safe

Very good and informative video, thanks for that! The phone mount you have, is that a BMW generic mount or something you bought separately?
Billy
Does the BMW version have any functions that the generic ones don't?
It does give you some control but not that much right now. For £200 it is definitely not worth it in my opinion.
Nice and useful video! How do you get power to your phone from the bike?

What's the best Route Criteria for fast winding roads. I have tried many different route options and it always wants to take me down a dirt lane, even with "Avoid Dirt Roads" selected. We like fast A and B roads with sweeping bends and I can't seem to find the perfect settings for this.
Great video.
nice walk-thru. Quick and efficient. Thanks! Still looking for how to adjust map detail level with the wonder wheel while on the go, if anybody knows.
found the answer. map detail is adjustable with the wonder wheel with the map visible on the bike in map mode, by first clicking the wonder wheel "out" to navigate to the left side of the map (toward the magnifying glass icon in the left margin). Then just spin the wheel for zoom level. Dont know why I missed that on my first ride!

Make sure the app is open and the bike connected to the phone before you start riding.
Very nice video. One question please, can I play music using my AirPod via the app or tft screen? Many thanks in advance.
You should be able to as long as you can connect via Bluetooth you can use the wonder wheel to scroll through your music list 👍🏼
Was hoping to see the directions appear on the TFT as phones have Google maps.

Hi Billy, I cannot get the maps to change to landscape orientation, any ideas?
Stay safe. Billy
Hi Billy, very useful video. Do you have to have your data on for the maps to work?
Billy
Wow great video!! Just got home with new F 850. Thanks so much!!
HI Gseyer1. Congrats on the new purchase. Really nice bike that! Great to hear the video was useful. Enjoy. Cheers. Billy
Question? Was that iPhone just in an Phone mount for motorcycle? Or do they make a clip that goes on your phone and you can install it in your pre-mounted GPS mount?
Thanks!! I love it. Had 3 Harley‘s before :( lol
Hey mate. No its is a cradle that clips into the sat nav preparation that also connects to the power so you can charge your phone on the go. Here is a link to a vid on it I did ua-cam.com/video/vQn2PagoIJk/v-deo.html. there is also a link to the product in the description of the video if you decide to purchase one. Cheers. Billy

Thanks Illiya for watching and your comments. Cheers. Billy
Can you use the jog wheel on the steering to control information on the phone's connected app?
Unfortunately not :-( Thanks for watching. Cheers Billy
Is there a way you can get the instructions on the phone ( how far there is to go in time and miles ). I can get it on the tft screen but not on the app. I always prefer to have the tft screen as the speedo and rev counter
Hi Jim. Thanks for watching and your question. Unfortunately not. Its an app designed to work in conjunction with your TFT screen. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures thanks for the reply, do you know if there’s any updates in the pipeline that might put this on ? I think it would be a great addition ( the tft flips from that screen to rev counter screen quite a lot )
Thanks
Used Waze and its pretty good with lots of features. Shows Photo Radar and where the cops are and Accidents.
Hi Jerry. I like Waze as well. It’s certainly a standard for BMW to work towards 👍🏼
What is that little module mounted on your handlebars? It’s mounted in the center with what looks like a couple of lights
Hi Richard. Thanks for watching! The only thing mounted to my handlebars is a GoPro camera that is recording the TFT screen. It's mounted on a RAM mount. Is that what you are talking about? Cheers. billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Oh I see. Thanks!
Thanks for this, very useful. I am picking up a S1000RR in a few days so also interested in track day data captured but will explore this.

My app is not playing map of jurny, shoving speed etc but not playing map. Any advice
thanks for that!!
Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures thanks for your comments. will try out what you said and will let you know.
Good luck. Yes do let me know. Cheers. Billy
Hi, thanks for the update. I’ll await your findings in due course, hope the weather is reasonable where you are tomorrow. Kind regards, J
Hi Jean. Been out this morning, very windy but good to get out. I used approx 1.6MB of data per hour today. Not too bad I don't think. I believe that the Apple Maps is above 1.0mb for 20 mins. Hope that helps. Ride safe
do you have a video on pairing the Connected app to bluetooth helmets and the functionality gained?
Not yet Bill. I will do one as soon as I have sourced a new commas unit for my helmet.
@@BillysBikeAdventures Been trying my Sena SRL2 setups and they talk to the bike and to the Sena app, but don't like each other really when they're both connected.
Hi Bill, Thanks a lot for that very helpful tour
My Gs1250 has 2 devices connected.
Stay safe. Billy
Thank you very much you answered my question even the BMW dealer did not know, I have the same phone holder as you, and I could not change the gps from Portrait to Landscape, now I know just ride the fricken bike.
Ha ha thanks Jack. Great to hear the video helped. Stay safe. Billy👍🏼
AND
Is there a setting that prevents that Idividual recording of intermediate rides and record a whole daily ride?
Thanks in advance.

HI spyrosspyrou3428. Thanks for watching and your question! I have written BMW Motorrad for an answer to this as I do not know the answer myself at the moment. As soon as I hear I will be back in touch. Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures thanks for your reply.
I will be waiting for their feedback.
PS.
I assume A possible solution is to set up the journey’s interval stop-duration in preferences so that it will take a full-long days drive as one.
I will try it out and inform.
Just bought a r1250 gs rallye and this video has been brilliant, subscribed and liked
Top video
Thanks Adrian. Glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback. Stay safe. Cheers. Billy
Excellent video (apologies I only just discovered you!) I've got a 2021 R1250GS and have managed to connect my phone (S20) to it- downloaded the app....great...put in a route..also great....but after the initial screen with the first 'turn by turn' instruction (phone in my pocket) nothing changes!
Cheers. Billy
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks for the reply Billy - I'm about to go on a quick trip (with my son) up to North Yorkshire with one night away then back - probably be around 600+ miles. I've noted your comments (plus I've asked the same one on a TFT Facebook group (sad, innit?) and it stirred up a hornets nest! (possibly because of some of my OTHER comments)
I've got a quiet day today so will uninstall/re-install the app....fingers crossed....good news is my son's 38 years younger than me (September's my 50th year in the saddle....) so I'm hoping he'll help me get to grips with it! Cheers. Del.
Good video thanks. Is is possible to alter the Service due on date and if so how?
Hi Kevin. Thanks for watching the video and your message. The only way that I think you could possibly do this is if you have an OBD device and make changes through the screen info for that. Stay safe. Billy
Hi,
thank you for info. I have been using app for three years. I just can't find anywhere how to add a new bike without loosing old trips. If I try to delete the bike I sold, I received warning that I will loose all my trips if I proceed. Is there any option to add a new bike and archive the old one. Thank you.
Bottom right of the app - three dots. Click and go to 'My Garage'. Click the + button. Add your new bike, keep data from your old bike. Hope this helps.
@@charabanc1418 Thank you. Did few times the same, just didn't work, log out from app...still the same, after switching off and on the phone...finally managed.
Hey mate. Sorry I did not reply before someone else did to see you have this sorted from feedback. Cheers. Billy
Hi Billy. Great video . I want to use this app. Can you go through how to connect the phone to the bike please?
HI Andrew. Thanks for watching and your comment. I will get a vid done this week for you no problem! Stay tuned :-) Cheers. Billy
Hi Billy,
Thanks a lot for that very helpful tour!
Good luck. Ride safe. Billy 👍🏼
@@BillysBikeAdventures Thanks a lot for the swift response, I'll try that!
Could you please tell what mount are you using for your phone ? Is it BMW Connected Cradle?
Hi. I was going to get the BMW Connected cradle but they have just put the price up to £200 here in the UK, a massive rip off. Here are links for different countries
UK amzn.to/3B9A0Ie
DE amzn.to/3boa4xK

Stay safe. Billy
Great video. One question: does the app use live traffic when plotting its routes?
HI Alan
Thanks for watching the video and your question.
Thanks for the update Alvaro. Billy👍🏼
Good luck. Will investigate more next week when I have more time 👍🏼
Great demonstration, thank you my friend
Thanks for watching James and your comment 👍🙌. Cheers. Billy
Good video. great overview of the app.
Hi Jerry. Thanks for watching and your comments. Stay safe. Billy 👍🏼
Super useful and very well explained Billy. Wm.
Thanks for watching and your comments. Cheers. Billy
Cheers. Billy
Please help it well not follow me on playback show my bike's position and in what curve but will show everything else like cursor is broken
I’ve sorted it now….great video Billy
HI Robert. Sincere apologies for not responding. For some reason you went in as spam so this has only just popped up in my inbox in UA-cam. Great to hear that you have it sorted. What was the issue? Thanks for you comment and for watching the video. Stay safe. Billy
Hi, can I have constant display instead of turn by turn. Is this default and can it be changed.
Hi Adrian. I don't believe there is a choice for constant display on the TFT, turn by turn only unfortunately. Unless that is they introduce the larger TFT to the GS at some stage. Thanks for watching and your question. Cheers Billy
What is the device in center of handlebars on ball mount ?
That's just a small GoPro camera
Cheers John
Hi, does the app not work with the BMW Motorrad Navigator VI gps? Thanks
HI Chap8. I don't believe it does. Thanks for watching the video. Stay safe. Billy
Although is a great application for navigation, I miss the max speed on the roads that a zumo Gamin gives you. Not mention the cameras. 😢
Billy
