  • Dynamic ESA: What is it ? How does it work ? How do we get the most from BMW Dynamic ESA and DDC systems on our motorbikes, but most importantly what do all the buttons do when we press or select them ?.
    This is Part 2: Dynamic ESA Explained: will be covered over TWO episodes
    Part 3 will specifically cover the 7 - Riding Modes and what each mode does in relation to ABS, DTC and power delivery.
    If you have any questions about what I cover in this episode, let me know in the comments section and I will reply to you.
    My aim is to release one new episode approximately every 2/3 weeks, sometimes a little sooner, and currently I am working on the “Michelin Adventure Tyres” episode and the “Tour of Norway” episodes, and on the light / indicator kits that solve the Multifunction issues many of us owners have.
    Hopefully you enjoy the content I create, so by Subscribing you are letting me know that you appreciate the effort and time I invest in creating these episodes, and it also helps to grow and develop the channel.
    Thank you, Carl

    The SOLUTION for the multifunction indicator issues, should be available later this week. I was asked by the manufacturer to wait until the new UK / EU website has been finished which should be a couple of days more. Most of my riding friends now want these lights on their bikes, so I'm going to be very busy over winter. Carl

      Yes and installed on my bike ( 2021 GS Rallye) I’ve uploaded several guides to help owners install these lights and many owners have now done the same installation. Subscribe and go to my channel and your find all the information you need. Let me know if I can help

      do you think the older bikes were better as far as the display and esa?

      also do you thing the base GS with a traditional shock is better as far as compression and rebound?

      Hi, the new TFT display is brilliant and so is the dynamic ESA.
      The pre 2018 bikes had a slightly better preload setting or spring rate.

    Exceptional job sir! I have been a Medevac and Rescue Helicopter pilot for over 34 years now and I am amazed at the similarity of the stability systems on my 2022 BMWR1250GSA and my Augusta 119 helicopter! Your explanation, physical demonstrations (stick and tennis balls) paint a vivid picture...you would make an excellent helicopter instructor! I have been trying to get my head rapped around the differences of my new GSA and my trusty old 2003 GS1150, and you again did a great job building that picture for me. Thank you.

    Agree with most of your comments.
    Last year we rode some of the passes in the French and Spanish Pyrenees. I was riding solo but fully loaded and wanted to get a bit of a wriggle on. The bike was in Auto DSA and Dynamic Pro riding mode. The suspension coming out of slow hairpins was ideal but the throttle response was too severe with the bike leant over at slow speed. I suppose I could have fiddled about in the ‘Pro’ setting of Dynamic and altered the throttle input but it was easier on the move to change the riding mode to Road and set the suspension control to Dynamic. It gave me the ideal setup for exiting those slow hairpins. Very clever stuff.
    Also agree about those indicators and await with interest your solution.
    I’ve supplemented mine with Denali T3’s front and rear controlled with a Hex Ezecan and am now happy that my indicators and brake lights can be seen clearly. Of course it doesn’t solve the issue some have had with the front DRL’s being confused as indicators, but to date I haven’t had anyone pull out on me.

      Hi String, thank you for sharing your experience with settings, like you I found on our Norway tour with all the slow speed corners up and down the Fjords, Ride Mode : Road, Damping : Dynamic and preload: Auto. Great explanations, in both Part One and Part Two. On my non-Dynamic ESA, 2018 R1200RT, I leave the right hand Mode button in Dynamic . Depending on luggage and/or pillion I'll changing the preload . I switch between Normal and Hard on my dampening depending on cornering enthusiasm. Hello Carl. I just acquired a BMW R1250 GS Adventure 40th year edition back in June of 2022. Haven't even drilled down to much on the options available you've explained here as I've been fussing with 3 other bikes I've just added as I'm a new rider at 72 years playing "catch up" with riding here in the heartland of the USA. Now I see what those terms are about because as you've explained they used the same word to describe a setting at a different place! I'm now excited about experimenting with them as you being an excellent instructor having illumined me as to how they can be selected and for what purpose and effect. I better subscribe! Thanks mate!

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  Рік тому +1

      Hello PSJ, there are 36 possible combinations.
      3 preload x 2 damping x 5 ride modes = 30.
      Plus, 3 preload x 2 enduro modes = 6.
      That would be a big chart and hard to explain clearly, especially if you then want reall world scenarios for these 36 possible option.
      I did consider doing this but I couldn't find a simple way to explain and demonstrate this. So it sounds like YOU have found yourself a new task for the weekend.... smile.

    Great 2 episodes explaining the suspension. Re: the indicators - are you saying that for USA models, the amber indicators were not approved by DOT so BMW had to fit the white LEDs? I have a ‘22 GSA USA model - it has amber front indicators?

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  Рік тому +1

      Hi Hogdrive, the US has the same front options we have in EU and UK. It's the multifunction on the rear that the DOT did not approve.
      In the US the main rear lamp has both Side Light and Brake light functions.
      In the EU and UK we only have Brake light function in the main rear lamp.
      The Side light has been moved to the indicators which makes in terrible to see exactly what is happening.
      The indicators in the EU and UK have three functions to perform.
      Indicator flash
      Brake light
      Side light.

      @@justthewayitis Yes, The US does not allow the Multifunction indicators on the BMW, at least this is what my BMW dealer stated when I asked after watching your segment about the lighting packages.
      My '22 GS Rallye has the horizontal "V" light style amber indicators. For me, the video was a little unclear when you were talking of changing out the indicators from amber to white. It seemed like you were talking about the color of the indicators not the multifunction system. Maybe I missed something?
      Like the others have said in their posts, your videos are well done and very informative... Top notch!

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  Рік тому

      Hello and welcome to the channel. Yes I also had the V style amber lights on the front. They are now replaced by a bright White running light (replacing the amber colour) which is a big improvement. They still flash amber when indicating and are Much brighter than the OEM indicators. I will explain the changes to the front and rear in an up coming episode which I hope, will make the improvements very clear to understand. For me at least.. its resolved all the issues and safety concerns I had. More information to come soon. Best wishes Carl

    Looking forward to seeing your solution for the indicator issue as I'm in 100% agreement with you about the standard multifunction setup. I had my front ones switched off of DRL mode at the first service but haven't managed to do anything with the rears yet. Have looked at Denali and Weiser Technik setups both of which could solve the issue but are quite expensive. Interested to see if you've found a cheaper solution.
