Ron, you have my sympathy for Beau. I know how you feel. I've lost my share of pets over the years. God bless you and Beau. Keep up the amazing work. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. I've learned much from you. Thank you, and God bless.
Only just found this one. Nice one Lies, that certainly got Ronald working. A beautiful piece of Yew, a beautiful hollow form, a beautiful tribute to Beau, bless her.
I am a new subscriber catching up on past videos. I am so sorry for your loss. Only those who have lived through the experience understand what you are feeling. We lost our Ricky Ricardo on September 23, 2019....I still think of him often and miss his constant presence. Beau was a wonderful, unique companion.
Goedendag or Gday Ronald & Lies from Australia (Melbourne). First, I'm sorry for the loss of Beau, good you have Kees. Only recently I became aware of your turning on UA-cam I'm turning wood now for 25years and like natural edge . The "Its hip to be square" bowls earnd me a "Wow" from fellow turners. Next will be the "MOOD OWL" and the Tiny, triangular tube vase" . Lies & you make the videos very entertaining and meaningful. Every move is professional and need attention to pick up details/hints. I have subscribed and follow from now on.
I am a new subscriber to your very interesting and different wood turning style and presentations. Complimented by your skilful videographer ( love the little background giggles-you compliment each other very well. Although it is two years ago since your four legged companion, Beau, crossed the rainbow bridge to play with my little girl of 16 years a bit over two years ago, they are sharing the next part of their journey, and one day we will meet again. It still hurts. Thank you for sharing your skill and fascinating projects. Greetings from Tasmania Australia.👍😁🇦🇺🦘
love the colors in the Yew!! sorry to hear about Beau, I have an American Dingo who is 17 now., wish they could live longer! Love your videos. Denny Scharringa
Absolutely the most amazing piece of wood you have put up a video of. Here in the desert of Arizona, no Yew is readily available. We do however have a LOT of Mesquite. I will work out an exchange with anyone who can trade some substantial pieces (around 25cm x whatever) and who knows what wonderful results may come. Love your video style and excellent teaching method.
It's a couple of years late, but I am sad to hear of your pet Beau passing away. Ya know, it's our four legged friends who are really family members that put big paw prints on our hearts and positively impact our lives.
Hi Ronald, I just came across your Burka Bass video (Wow sounds great) then watched this one. Yew is my favorite wood and this piece is beautiful. So sorry to hear you lost your friend Beau, I know how it hurts. Sub'd.
Sorry to hear about your loss I just found your channel and subsribed directly because it so impresive and funny to watch. I like the coments Lies makes and she does a great job. A very impresive piece and so beautyful. I would be afraid to get a catch on the inside, especially when you sanded it. Well done Ronald.
I am a weekend wood turner from Dannebrog, NE, USA, the Danish capital of Nebraska and I just recently subscribed and thoroughly enjoy your videos, working my way through them. I enjoy getting inspiration and ideas from other turners. Unfortunately, there are no other turners near me, and no turning clubs in my area, so youtube is an important source of ideas and instruction for me. You have a great style and your videos are very relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing your skills and artistry.
Why have I only just found your UA-cam channel first sorry to hear the sad news You explain your process really well right off to watch the rest of your videos
Mooi "iets" gemaakt van een stuk die mensen zeer vaak naar het containerpark voeren. Dank om de werkwijze van begin tot einde te delen met deze mooie film.
Truly love the grains and colors of this piece. Sorry to hear about your shop companion passing. Dogs are truly man's best friends. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ronald, Lies. I’m really sorry for your loss to hear that Beau has passed away... You’re work on the Yew (I really liked the remark from Lies: “I love Yew too”, it made me laugh out loud) was impressive. When I first saw it lying on your lathe, I wasn’t expecting this final result. Many thanks for the upload. Take care, stay save!
I'm so sorry for your loss Ronald, Beau was indeed lovely girl. My compliments though on your craftmanship and great filming/editing skills of Lies! Keep up the good work guys!
Great design and video. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and abilities. A work of art. Beautiful shop. Sorry for the loss of your shop dog. They are definitely part of our family.
Sorry to hear about Beau. Remember the beautiful moments, as you showed us. Sterkte! But a beaitifull project, I have my one Lies, she is called Petra and also makes me do impossible projects😉.
Beautiful piece! Lies: great idea😉. I have a few of these stumps here, and now I have an idea what I can do with them. Sorry to hear that Beau passed away. Maybe an idea for a next video: lathe maintenance?
Today, Rick Turns, who maintains a database of woodturning videos and publishes periodic YT reports, mentioned your yew video and also included it in a list of highlighted videos. That aside, the vessel is a well executed project and the process is nicely filmed. I was sorry to hear about Beau who was such a friendly shop companion. I’m glad Kees is still on the premises, also a fine companion.
Hi Ronald, i have just found your channel and like the work you do. Love this yew hollow form. I would be interested in purchasing the tool rest lamp from your website but would like to know what the shipping cost to the UK would be. Thanks
Gday from Australia guys, I just found your channel and I’m enjoying it! Lies, you are just too much fun!! 😂 the background commentary and giggles are great, and I think he secretly had fun with this challenge, find him more 😉 Rono your pretty unconventional for what I’m used to, I like it 👍🏾 sorry about your little mate. Keep it up guys
Ronald complimenten aan lies voor de mooie belichting van deze video, knap dat er toch iets moois uit dat stuk wortel gedraaid kan worden, gecondoleerd met Beau het zal stil zijn zonder de blaffende begroeting.
Ideas for what videos to make.finish methods, types why use products over different products ie wax over oil or varnishes over polishes how wood reacts to methods and products what works well with certain types of wood over others the not what to do in finishing and the reasons behind it.
My condolences on the loss of your dog Bo. It will be a big loss. It was a bit confusing that she was / was not there, but you made a nice hollow form.
Very nice work, that you have done! Is there a big difference between the Rolly Munro Mega 2 and the Crown MIDI Revolution? And what tool do you use at 29:48? Many regards from Germany :)
Thank you! The tool I use in the end is a 13 mm spindle gouge. grinded a bit more pointy than usual I guess. There is a huge difference between the Mega 2 from Munro and the Midi Revolution from Crown. In size, cutter, shaving limiter, etc. The Midi is suitable for small work as the Munro can do much bigger vases... Grtz Ronald
@@ronaldkanne a dodecahedron has 12 faces I did mine as a hollow form after that I did one with 20 sides but it spoiled me because I now cannot seem to get inspired, any ideas ???
Hi Bart, the answer to that question could be a day filling course...😊 there is a lot to say about the drying process. A few rules that i follow: i seal the endgrain parts. I leave the pith out and if the wood is thicker then 80 mm I preturn, let dry further and finish turn... I try to avoid direct sunlight on the wood in order to avoid big differences in temperature. I try to dry slowly, and very important, controled... if possible in a room where is always more or less the same humidity... Grtz Romald
Hi Ronald, first my condolence for the loss of Beau! I guess this little pice of yew, brought by your camera women was more or less a way to cheer you up and I guess this worked. You created again something new and special and this pretty spontaneously, if we believe in your video :-) I like this a lot, specially as a beginner who tries to get his finger on every little pice of scrap wood and than it piles up in the workshop with no idea what to do about this. Well done! And I am only wondering why you started the hollowing before finishing the outside. Specially because you know that it would be pretty unstable after the hollowing process... Since I have seen all the different kind of machines standing in your workshop, a kind of comparison between those would be really nice! But maybe the best thing to get an idea of the difference is to visit one of your courses, which is definitely planed before buying a better lathe! Looking forward to new videos on any topic! Best Mario
Talking about comparing your different machines, it would be really interesting to see how they behave for unbalanced wood. I mean they have different bed concepts, some fixed head stock etc. I guess in your shop it would be nice to compare those.
sorry to hear about Beau. Great piece you turned there. I turned yew once, but that stuff is not good for me. i got some skin reactions from the dust. How much did the sand dull your tools?
Hallo Ronald heb mij een ongeluk gezocht naar het jew hout om te weten te komen van welke boom of struik het afkomstig is kun jij mij vertellen van welke boom of struik dit afkomstig is. Mvrg Ben
I ´m sad about Beau, he was a lovely and friendly dog. But i like your hollow form from a ugly peace of yew. Because i like yew to i will gift a nice big peace in next time to you.
Hi Rickey, Yew contains Taxol. A poison indeed. The Taxol is mainly in the green parts, but also in the sap and a bit in the wood. Taxol is used in some chemo treatments, among other things.

With sandy wood, I would pressure wash it clean. My pressure washer isn't an expensive one, but it can probably spray the bark of that Yew.
