Riley's 5.3 LS Made WAY More HORSEPOWER Than Expected | Dyno Tuning LS Swapped 4 Eye Mustang

- This time on SPPTV Riley's 4 eyed foxbody heads to the dyno to finally get some power numbers out of the mostly stock 5.3 LS engine swapped into the Mustang. Besides being a used junkyard engine, things to note are the minor headwork that has been done, including a valve job and deck. The Summit Pro LS series race cam, TBSS intake, and gen 4 rods and pistons complete the combo as far as modified parts go. The amount of power the car made surprised us all, as our estimates were all way low. Check out our channel for a playlist with all the build episodes of this car and more!

I don't know that I ever had more fun in my life than when a buddy and I were f'n around with a 400hp '86 Mustang back in the late 90's. The cars have gotten a lot faster since then but I'm not sure the fun has increased in the same way. Enjoy the car!

Sweet numbers. I had an '83 GT turbo when I was 17. I flipped it. Flipped it real good! One day I'll get another t-top 4-eye mustang, but I likely won't put an LS in it. I guess need to finish the Vette and the Jimmy first LOL.

Love it! Please keep the weld draglites and put the correct quarter windows in it. It even still sounds like a SBF… I can tell that car is being prepped for a Turbo and 800+Rwhp.

Impressive, for a n/a 5.3. Was the torque converter unlocked during this dyno test? 4l60e w/HD2 kit and stock converter?

Same paint, the dyno room lighting makes everything look stellar. He did polish it himself though

We had to ditch the flat hood in favour of a 2.5” cowl

My 5.3 with 243 heads and ASA cam only made 325 whp - maybe I need a new cam

5.3 243 heads 92mm intake and throttle, long tube, and a medium size cam

.525/.525” lift, 225/236@0.50, 106 LSA
I chose this cam for good mid- range and mild lift- using LS6 blue springs,
LS6 lifters, stock push rods and rockers.

Ls is the only way to go in a mustang, a sbf would never make that kind of power so easily, this is impressive.

Well... One must consider the SBF that came in this mustang is basically a 1970s design. There's plenty of SBF blocks out there that can get you very big numbers... if you're willing to pay. One SBF that pops into my mind they come right off assembly line with 760hp the 5.2. Ford sells them as crate engines if you have big enough wallet.

What size rims/tires do you have on the back of that thing Riley?
275/50/15 on a 10” wide rim with 6.5” backspace
Switching to a 255/60/15 soon

@@6xcchamber971 yes he is he also has .5” spacers on the back because the tire is real close to the coils which is the reason for the switch to the 255 tire this year
@@proxstang Thanks. I have started a 95 mustang 5.3 build. I will be doing coil overs eventually so I can save some weight and put wider rims/tires on it. Powerglide also. 8.8 rear also.
What ECU You was using at this time was it stock
Factory ECU out of an 01’ Avalanche I believe tuned with HP Tuners
What head gaskets are on that car ?

what did you do to the headers
They are bolt on Speed Engineering headers

They are as cast 799’s with a valve job using factory valve sizes
