No he shouldn’t 😂 he’s a comedian, not a historian. I love that he has an interest in history and obviously does a lot of research, but he’s not an authority on the subject. His knowledge comes second hand from watching actual historians on podcasts and in documentaries, not researching the sources himself. There’s a difference between having an interest in history and being able to educate people about it
@@samael4550I think the idea of a comedy history podcast is great. Especially with dudes like Shane and Louis. They know enough to make it interesting and could learn more during the show. That podcast probably already exists a thousand times over tho lol
The history curriculum in the west should be entirely curated by Matt, Shane and Louie. All together. They read the books. Listen to the podcasts. And summerize them for us like a fireside chat. Every week. Possibly animated. With free coffee and bagels for all. Cream cheese is extra. That's the America I want to wake up in.

My great-grandmother always mentioned that when German soldiers arrived, all the girls from the village would dress up nicely, possibly in hopes of attracting the attention of any soldier. However, when the Russians came to liberate us, my grandmother recalled spending several days hiding in a well to avoid them. She described them as savages, saying they seemed unfamiliar with even basic technologies like a faucet. My great-grandparents had an outdoor tap and one of the soldiers, unable to figure out how to use it, simply shot it off with his gun to get the water flowing.

Such an underrated show. Why was it cancelled? I learned a lot from that show and I have an MBA; like the Prussian military instructor Baron von Steuben, who trained Washington’s Continental Army for America during the Revolutionary War.

I think it's more that the words and the bro-ness Matt and Shane use makes it funny, but also it makes me personally and hopefully others interested in history so they'll look into history more.
Austrians as the Nazi’s ‘first victims’ is a myth that has long since died. The Austrian people were as culpable as the German people in the third reich. I’ll give you just one example of many; 75% of Nazi death camp commanders were Austrian. History is uncomfortable.

And lived to almost 93. I just finished that Spielberg/Hanks show Masters of the Air today and as it was showing the guys who lived who the show was based off of all but one lived into their 90s. I was thinking man those guys must have had the hand of God on their shoulder.

Although the term is real, it is somewhat overstated. If u look at the map of pre WWII significant German population exclaves, they existed in well-established form for generations or even centuries, in Eastern lands, including as far east as a lot of Soviet held territory, all the way to the black sea, the Volga, and Dniper rivers, respectively. In many ways much of the land and especially the economic systems of the eastern lands "earmarked for lebensraum" was already German and predates german nationalism.
Very controversial to say that, i know. But it has a indisputable historical basis, and idea of lebensraum as we know it today was a key piece of thoroughly whitewashed post war propaganda utilized by the allies.
I was raised by my mean old Irish nan. I honestly miss when those kind of ladies were everywhere. Those women kept other girls in line and now that they are mostly gone…well you see the state of young lasses today.
My boys and I tried to listen to the podcast Shane is talking about at the start of a 12 hr drive. We had to shut it off cause it was depressing us all.

For real though, ghosts of the Ostfront is a phenomenal series. I highly recommend Pritt Buttar’s ‘Battleground East Prussia’ that’s a crazy book about the battle in the Kurland pocket, Baltics and into East Prussia and Pomerania in 1944-45. What the civilians of those countries and regions went through was unimaginable. I can’t even write about it here, it was so horrific.

It's a brutal movie, but "Come and See" depicted WW2 between Germany and USSR. Made in Soviet Russia in the 80s. Steel yourself for that one.
That movie is intense. Almost stopped watching it halfway through; but I realize that if I was uncomfortable just watching it I couldn't imagine going through what they did and I owed it to them and to myself to finish the movie.
