It’s an absolutely incredible book with the most astounding stories about different operators in Vietnam, with A LOT of just amazing SOG stories. The story of Billy Waugh is just enthralling. Also check out his book “Hunting the Jackal.” Not as good but very interesting still.

Two of the best memoirs I’ve read about Vietnam were Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Whispers in the tall grass. First one has a story with a Green Berets 9 man recon team surround by a division of 10,000-15,000 hardcore NVA. The second is a Hunter S Thompson like depiction of that same recon unit.

WWI, The Roman empire, the Industrial Revolution, Ancient Egypt, fuck they could even talk about tax reform in 18th century England and they could probably make it funny. We were soldiers with Mel Gibson and Barry Pepper(Patrice said he was a cool dude) is a pretty good movie about the first major US battle in Vietnam.
The La Drang Valley, where we first put fert on the ground. Turned into a swarm and being sureounded in several positions. Really is an incredible film, and showcases how the pilots of that era were the key to those first hectic battles. Otherwise our casualties would have been much higher without pilots from korea haavng 10 years experience.

EDIT 2: The DoS made the decision to restablish Vietnam as a French colony because Socialist and Communist parties were gaining seats in Europe and they thought that was a way to improve France's economy. The CIA did not exist at the time - it was the OSS. The European desk of the DoS went against the Asian desk and the OSS when they decided to trash Roosevelt's principles and support the French colonialists. Ho Chi Min tried to talk to Woodrow Wilson back in the Versailles negotiations.

Talking about history just needs to be this dude's podcast now. These history podcasts with comedians talking about historical events are awesome. WWI, The Roman empire, the Industrial Revolution, Ancient Egypt, fuck they could even talk about tax reform in 18th century England and they could probably make it funny. The presidents series with Louis was pure gold.
