EGO - IT'S THE TESLA OF LAWNMOWERS - EGO 21" Select Cut Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Review

- 6 years ago I was sick of running out of gas, having gas spill everywhere when tipping the mower over to clean it, having my starter cord break, and of course having it not start when I wanted to quickly mow the lawn - I bought my first EGO electric lawnmower and have never looked back.
6 years later and WOW - what a difference! It's made the chore of mowing the lawn almost enjoyable :)

I love mowing so much I moved to an apartment.
Dame 😂
@@LimitlessLifeChannel000 There's always those box planters on people's patios with the grass being grown in them you can mow.
😂
🤣
Now you can mow the carpet in the apartment.
One of the things I really like about my EGO mower is how quiet it is compared to gas. It doesn't disturb anyone if I mow later in the evening.
I prefer quiet mowers, but I also need an excuse to wear ear protection because I have a neighbor who always comes out on her balcony to interrupt me while I'm out working lol.
Yep, they're about as loud as a vacuum cleaner.
I usually don't comment on videos, but you were very professional and to the point. The demonstrations are nice too. Keep it up!
I found a basket case mower that I put together from parts and I realized that it made me happy every time I mow (six years and counting). Self-propel is not necessary if you have a small lawn but ball bearing wheels is a must. Quiet design is also necessary. The Ego is a great choice if you are not mechanically inclined but I recommend not collapsing the handle often to save the wires from shorting out.
Collapsing the handle pinches the black & red wires that stop the motor from starting and running. This connector can be separated and either the male or female side of the connector can have its red & black holes or pins connected with a jumper wire, any size that fits. several youtube vids show how to make this jumper wire, but I saw none for when the pins of the connector were on the motor (vs handle) side. The jump has to be on the motor side to fool the motor into thinking that the circuit has been completed up to the handle and back, something that does not happen when the handle is collapsed (so the motor cannot start).
I like the 2167sp I picked up. they routed the wires internally to the arm now. I feel like on Turbo I can mulch anything.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
I’ve watched a couple other reviews on this mower and after yours I’m sold. I’ve never owned a mower but am excited to do my yard myself. It’ll pay for itself in one or two seasons. I have St. Augustine that’s been neglected and I’ve learned the best thing you can do for it is mow it high and often. Thanks for the nice review. 🌿
It will not last you long enough to pay for itself, these are GARBAGE, had one for one year now, all was dandy and nice the first year, now i have to charge the battery 3 times to do a small yard, where I charged once at the beginning. DO NOT BUY THIS, AND DO NOT LISTEN to people who do a review of a BRAND NEW MACHINE.
Your review is the BEST I've come across. Very thorough and to the point! Good job!
I have exactly your old model, except with the self-propelled option. Got it 5 years ago. I couldn't agree more with you. Trouble free, and it's a BEAST! I am so NOT gentle with that thing. Abusive, even. And it just works.
What I found to be the most impressive thing about these mowers is the fact that the mower is light enough that it will actually propel itself without have to really push it. This has been very important with my bad back. If we hadn't moved to a yard that is smaller this year, I was going to purchase the zero turn rider.
Or a Husqvarna Automower? :)
Any should do that. We have a two year old champion with a class 35 Briggs engine and you don’t need to push, just hold the bars down.
I started out with this 2nd gen mower and it's been great. Last summer I upgraded to the dual battery mower with two 7.5 Ah batts. Now I can mow the entire yard. It goes even faster when I can get my kids to use the single battery mower (5 Ah) in the back while I'm doing the front yard.
I just bought one yesterday with a 7.5 amp battery and 21" cut width, self propelled and Lowes had it on sale for $100 off. It was the easiest and quietest lawn mow I have ever experienced. I will NEVER go back to using a gas mower, especially the ones with the worthless plastic carburetors. Wish I had switched a few years ago.
@@mikemike-fc5dq Is that your experience? For me I guess only time and use will tell.
I just purchased my new EGO and used it a couple of days ago. Great cut and my yard looked better then my old gas push mower.
Not to burst your bubble but likely because you had a brand new and very sharp blade. Full disclosure....I will likely buy one of these tomorrow........smh....LOL
Today I pulled the plug and purchased my first EGO! I love it and thanks for your video clip that breaks it down for the newbie!
I love my ego string trimmer and blower!! One of the best choices I've made when it comes to the yard!
I retired my old Troy built lawnmower last year and bought an EGO self propelled lawn mower. This thing is absolutely fantastic . It has an excellent performance and is very reliable. The battery charge last over an hour.
I agree. I have the Ego and would never go back to gasoline. Right now my neighbor is mowing his lawn with my mower. I’ll bet he ends up buying one, or maybe I’ll just buy one for him. Cheers!
Agree Ego is thumbs up from our experience........
my wife and I bought an Ego self propelled mower 2 years ago when we moved and bought a house..... I had an Ego blower all ready so we decided to stay with the Ego battery system.....
if needed I can run the mower or blower on either batteries..... have to say we are happy with it..... quiet, no worries about gas and tune ups, mow, mulch, easy to adjust the height, self-propel works great mowing or as you say just moving it back to the garage or shed, can be stored up on it's rear..... no issues with it .. I want it to last so we don't abuse it, no issues with battery life so far.... my advice is to sharpen the blade when needed..... my wife isn't afraid to use it either.... I'd say to check this brand out for sure
Congratulations for 6 years on your first EGO Lawnmower. 👏
I have the same original mower. It's been just over 5 years now & still going strong. Would love to upgrade to this one some day.
Great review...
I have the Ego blower, trimmer, mower and recently picked up the self propeller kick ass snow blower that I haven't had a chance to use. I will never go back to gas units. Can I suggest that you treat your lawn. Lots of weed out there 😊😵😆
I purchased one prior to your review. Your video was the best one I watched. Great action shots, especially cutting in deep grass. Good Job!
Nice review , my wife bought me the mower 5 years ago this coming summer , same battery , I love the products so much that , just like you , I bought the power head string trimmer , hand held hedger, the pole saw attachment , my wife just bought me the 650 blower last year , and I took the plunge and bought the two stage snow blower , and I just bought the nexus power station , I guess you can say that I have an Ego ☺️☺️👍 , thanks for the great review
Ahh 😌 we’re mirrored on what we have other than the power station. Haven’t pulled the plug on that one yet.
I don’t like mowing the lawn but when I bought the ego mower in the fall of 2018 it’s made it bearable. It’s fun too to see if I can get it done before the battery dies. No more noisy mower!! I love my ego mower.
how much do you still love it ?
@@norseman5041 I’m in south Texas and we don’t have grass anymore lol. Been like that since I would say March. But I love knowing it will start asap when I need it. They might have them on sale in November or before. I got mine for $350 in November of 2017 from $399. I guess the fall is when lawn tools are on sale? Unless inflation has something to say about those sales. Lowes has them now. I got mine at home depot back then. I’m not going back to gas mowers again. Vehicles on the other hand is another story. At least I can replace this battery easily and much more cheaper than an EV. I don’t think self propelled mowers are worth it with ego. It will just eat up more battery. Battery is still holding up on its charge to date. One thing though as you are mowing the side discharge of the mower gets clogged up especially if you have that really thick green grass. So you will have to stop and clean it out frequently depending on your grass thickness etc. it’s more work but I still enjoy using the mower. I been wanting to do a video on this mower for UA-cam but I never got around to it. I prefer being a spectator on here. Lol
@@Catman1798 same experience it clog up all the time, so you have to keep it high enough to get a good air flow, then you MUST make sure to move before the grass get too tall.
Great review, decided to purchase this product from a local Ace Hardware store today, thanks for a great review!
I'm on the 7th summer now with all my EGO equipment. I have that same original mower, the trimmer, leaf blower and hedge trimmer. One 5a battery from the mower and two 2.5a batteries. The hedge trimmer I got alone, no battery. All of that is 7 years old now and still runs like the first day. My mow time is the same (no battery degradation). I haven't even sharpened my blade. They're literally the best things I've purchased for my house.
This is good to read. I have a gen 1 mower, and the string trimmer. Mower seems to work fine, but my original 5amp battery lasted JUST past the warranty. My battery from
the string trimmer is about a year past the warranty and just died yesterday. My newest battery, which might still be in warranty, and might be JUST past charges, and immediately drops to 2 bars from the full 5 as soon as it's in the mower:( I want to love these things, but I'm not having much luck with staying power on these highly expensive batteries.
@@FishelPhotoCincinnati - how do you store your batteries? I have my chargers in the house, and the batteries stay inside. I never leave them in the garage to subject them to the high heat and subzero temps throughout the years.
@@jeffs6090 Thanks for that response. The charger and batteries have been in the garage and given your good luck and my bad I'd guess the garage is the causation:( Planning on getting the new mower with dual blades and that battery will be coming inside. Again, thanks for the response.
@@FishelPhotoCincinnati - Good deal! I hope you have better luck with battery longevity after that. Because, yes, they say not to have them in extreme temps for very long.
can you use any battery on on all your products? like will 5a battery work on the trimmer and blower as well and vice versa 2.5 work on the mower
Just purchased a new home and believe this mower will be perfect.Thank you for the thorough review. ; )
Your review is about #25 of what I have watched today. It started with looking for string trimmers with telescoping shaft, but I also need a mower that I can use. I'm a 68 year old, 5'2" grandma with a bad back. But often my husband has other attachments on his John Deere mowing tractor, so the lawn has to wait. That's a nope for me. So, I want my own. All of our other products are DeWalt brand and didn't want to leave. I have an awesome 10" chainsaw, that fits me perfectly but can go through a 7" tree trunk like butter. Your review is great. The adjustable handle is perfect for me. I can see that this will be probably the easiest on my back. Thank you! Now if I could just find a robust string trimmer that is my height!
I was the last person my family and relatives ever thought would buy an battery powered lawnmower.
I am incredibly impressed with it and really never realized how loud a gas lawnmower really is until owning the Ego.
Lawnmower
Weed eater
Blower
Chainsaw
You’ll never go back. Great products.
The brushless motors have better torque. You have to be careful with the chainsaws, the chaps are kinda useless against them because of this.
I have the lawnmower, weed eater, leaf blower, and snow blower. Have used them all but the snow blower. They work great!
U hooked bro, next the EV!
@@Bobpaule I’m not into Congo Cars
I have been using Toro self pacers for around 20 years, The first on lasted for 11 years, I bought the second one it last maybe 7 or so years and the latest one that the transmission broke yesterday after 3 years or so . They seem to be building them with cheaper material and the engines seem to be getting smaller and smaller. However, I love the concept of using electrical power and going green However, Like you, I detest mowing yards and I grow whatever nature allows. I was wondering about cutting thick grass and high weeds, but your demonstration of mowing through tall weeds is a key selling point! Thank you for your time and effort in posting your experience and knowledge.
Get a Honda. I hated my Toro. Went to Honda ten years ago and it’s been a workhorse.
Thought I would do a follow up. It wasn't the transmission after all. it was the belt being stretched out. I simply replaced the belt. Happy again !
I have the old one (non-self propelled) for about five years now. Today I had difficulty and started to bog down. Naturally (husbands) started complaining that’s it’s getting old. I convinced my finance committee (wife) that the new one has better technology. She agreed to get the latest self propelled model. But in reality I think it was my dull blade, aging battery, and wet grass that did it. Not the unit itself which will probably last more years. Regardless, I can benefit from the self propulsion and more torque motor anyway. We have two Tesla vehicles so I can relate to what you said. I needed the comparison between the old and new models so I’m glad I found this video. Needless to say I’m heading to Lowe’s tomorrow.
6.5 years on my first gen Ego and it still works great. Battery is just starting to show its age. I modified the handle so I could set it to a shorter position.
I modded mine too.
Actually, I have a new EGO mower, and my back yard is a jungle. So far, I've had a branch pull the green plastic viewing port off of the battery cover, had a vine tie onto the height adjustment lever and change the deck height without my knowledge, and also had a handle extension locking clip pull loose. These events are in the first two weeks of using the mower. I've also noticed that the EGO has not just less but SIGNIFICANTLY less blade torque than my previous gas mower. With the gas mower, anything you could get under the deck was mulch - no stalling or stopping. The EGO has a tendency to overload, trip its breaker, and you have to back out and then restart the mower. I also noticed when I was shopping that the cheapest EGO mower has the SAME blade torque as they're most expensive. So although you get bigger batteries as you move up the EGO mower line, you do NOT get any more powerful blade motor.
Now having said all the above, I'm still pleased with my EGO mower (my first electric). After a winter with no mowing, I don't have to clean the carburetor, and the mower just starts. I also don't have to replace the engine air filter often in dusty conditions. And finally, I don't have to change the crank oil. So I wouldn't go back to gas despite the minor shortcomings of the EGO.
My last beef with the Ego is that the grass bag is HUGE. I'm 6-foot two with good upper body strength and it's a challenge for me to empty that huge, heavy grass bag. So much so that I don't plan to bag anymore - just mulch. My two cents.
I felt the same as you ! Until I purchased a zero turn mower, now I enjoy cutting the lawn weekly.
I also felt the same. Got my gate widened just so I can have fun spinning around and also mowing my nieghbors front yard for free lol.
I have an Ego lawnmower for around the house and a Badboy for the large yard and road. I LOVE MY Badboy!
Nice!
@@BeeBopGaming - Very Nice!

Thank you for your Ego mower review and comparison. I greatly appreciate the conciseness, directness and precision of your presentation. No fluff, no drama, bo bull. I thought I had found a home, lawn, and garden channel to meet one of my sets of needs. So I joined your channel. I was surprised and shocked to discover that the bulk of your reviews are centered around automobiles. I am disappointed that your focus is not for the home owner but for automobile enthusiasts. Unfortunately I am a closet automobile enthusiasts. I can only dream about the vehicles you evaluate. So now you give me another no-bull channel to prevent me from doing my HOME work. Thank you, I think.
Jeeez. Think it’s possible to get his junk any further down your throat? Lol. Dang
I have the 1st generation EGO, and I still love it. As much as this new generation is, though, I won’t upgrade until my present EGO dies so it may be for a very long time until I buy a new one. The one thing I’d like to know is the new generation more quiet than the 1st generation? Besides the maintenance free aspects of EGO and no gasoline fumes, I love how much more quiet it is compared to gasoline mowers.
I've had mine for 3 years now and never had problems. I recently moved and my new place that has a larger yard. Using the self propelled feature most of the time I'd go through one charged battery and needed to use an extra battery I have. I found that if you run the mower for a long time it has a safety cut off. I would start mowing and it would just shut down as soon as you started cutting grass. From what I could find out online this was normal due to the motor overheating. I found that letting it cool down for about 15 mins it was good to go again. I also have the blower. It failed to work after the first year. Customer service sent me a new unit (free) with no problem. Just have the serial numbers readily available when you call them. Just purchased the hedge clippers. Haven't used them yet, but I am sure they'll be great.
Is your lawn really long when you’re cutting it? Never had an overheating problem but have had it power off when it gets clogged with wet grass sometimes.
@@EverydayReviews2022 No wet grass or tall lawn. I'd be almost finished with the entire lawn and it would just start to shut down. I'd pull the mower off the grass and set it in the driveway and it would start right back up again. Then when I'd start to cut the grass it would shut down again. I had already gone through one charged battery. I was about 10 mins into using the 2nd battery when it happened. So I looked up the problem and someone said they had the same issue thinking it had a safety device that shut it down. If the mower does or not I do not know. About 20 mins had passed while I was googling the problem. When I went out to try again all was good. I think a ufo might of been in the area. You know how those things mess with electronics.....
I just got one and it is amazingly simple and powerful
Bought the top of the line ego 1.5 yrs ago, worked well for awhile then had to charge in middle of mowing to recharge they are in the battery selling business word of caution check the price on their batteries. Now back to a gas mower much better cut and no stopping to recharge.
I have the snowblower which I like a lot. even here in Minnesota, we didn't get enough snow last winter to really test it. it'll blow 8-9 inches easy and throws it 30 feet. easily clears a 2 lane driveway and back patio with half the charge. can't wait to get the mower now. thanks for the review!
I bought the snow blower last year, but after the snow storms we get here. I've heard good things about it, but hoping I don't have to use it. LOL
The snow blower has enough torque to toss (not throw) heavy slush which is almost unheard of. It only moves a foot or so, but that's still less back pain with a couple passes.
I really like that the battery works on all their other products.
I have an Ego 21" self propelled. This will be the 3rd season using it, if I keep it . I really like not having to get gas, oil, plugs, air filters, belts. But it just doesn't have the power, or maybe RPMs of gas powered. The wheels push down the grass , and the mower doesn't have the force or suction to pull the grass.back up and cut it. So on your next pass , you see all this grass that didn't get cut. I'm not willing to spend over 500.00 again on a newer model to see if they cut any better. So right now , I'm trying to decide which gas mower to buy.
Great review, thank you for taking the time and the effort.
I've been using the same gas powered B&S 20" cut push mower to do my trim work for the last 22 years, but then I enjoy doing the maintenance work on a mower. I bought a battery powered mower (Poulan Pro 58 volt) 2 seasons ago and while I have no complaints at all about it's power or run time the main complaint I have is that it simply won't get into areas I can get the smaller framed old gas push mower into for doing my trimming. I don't use weed eaters and do all my trimming with the push mower. Looking at that ego it's frame looks comparable in size to the Poulan I have which is just too big. The wheels are way in front of and behind the blades instead of being parallel with the front and back sweep of the blade on a small gas push mower so I guess I'll be sticking with a gas push mower for the foreseeable future. After 22 years my old Briggs still runs fine but the deck is shot, the holes for the wheels are wallowed out, etc. The rest of the lawn I mow with a riding mower as it's about 1.5 acres and that mower is 12 years old and still going strong. If I had a small city lawn with little to trim around besides the house and a couple of trees I think that ego would be just fine though.
I LOVE yardwork lol. I hated the gas fill routine though. So I went all electric. My mower is an EGO. Oldest model and it still holds up well. I own at least 2 batteries for the tools so one is always charging. This may sound expensive and perhaps a hassle, but I'm not filling gas cans, changing oil, and dripping that stuff on rags any more. Electric isn't perfect, but it's giving gas tools a run for it's money I think.
i think they are btter by far tbh, we have a full set from lawnmower to edgers and bush trimmers all of it... legit no more warming up engines no more pulling cords no more start and stop engines... just put the battery in and go. plus they are so fricking light
Once you add up the cost of gas and oil over the life of a mower, the electric is cheaper by far, exactly as it is with cars. Charging up batteries is WAY cheaper than gasoline.
This will be the 7th summer for my 21" self propelled EGO. I will NEVER buy another brand. I've tried two other brands. The first one, a 19" Black and Decker battery mower, purchased in 2003. It did ok but took overnight to charge, ugh! And had no self propel. In four years, it would not finish the whole yard before dying, even after I had the batteries replaced. Off to auction it went. Then, right before I bought my EGO, I tried a Greenworks battery mower; pitiful. Returned it, went to HomeDepot and bought my EGO. It's been an awesome mower ever since. I will get another one when this one dies. I'm loving the new features noted in this video! The battery charges in real time, too, which is soooo helpful. 15 min of charge time gets you 15 min of mow time; no more overnight charging, yay!!!
I have the LM2102 and have not had any issues so far with also a 21" blade. I really like our model better, but can't wait to see what is next in the future!... Things will always get better and this works for me regardless, so I am happy with the 7.5 ah battery! (60 minutes charging/run time)
Yeah I’m getting about the same time out of my 7.5 as well.
I’ve had my Kobalt 80v lawn mower for 5yrs and will NEVER go back to gasoline 👍🏽👍🏽
I do not understand why Lowe's just stopped selling the 80V mowers in the store, they had one on clearance for about half price in a store near me...
I have the 2nd gen LM2135SP, to be honest, it is overkill, but I'm happy with it. Ace Hardware had it on sale for $600 with the 5 aH battery + quick charger. I put the high lift blade on it, and haven't looked back. Pretty nice imho! :)
Ended up here because I’m looking to buy my first ever lawnmower and this brand and model s at the top of the list. Thank you. 😊
I'm here to compare Ego with Ryobi, and i think ryobi dual blade quite better
@@azamatesenkulov8050 I’m not surprised if Ryobi is. I’ve never heard either in person so I can’t make that judgment. However I do know Ryobi pride themselves on the fact their line of gardening tools are most quiet in the industry. I do own one of their 40V leaf blowers I recently purchased and I don’t regret it.
Guys Ego is better than everything else. I know from personal experience. Great for my retired dad and easier all around for him to also use and transport and store
My problem is that it takes about 90 mins to mow, the battery was never enough and to have to mow on two different days is not going to work. I have also had issues with it not being able to cut deep grass (fire break on hill, not normal mowing) - For these reasons, I've gone back to petrol.
The battery I have only takes about 30 minutes to charge. Try mowing half, then take a break or do the trimming while it charges up.
I paid +$200.00 for a Worx 40v 8 amp double battery. It cuts the best I have ever seen and is great for picking up fall leaves and bagging them.
Nice review, trying to decide between this and Milwaukee. Your video was helpful.
wow mate , very much appreciated your review , you sealed my purchase !
Great review if I had a yard to mow I would get one
I liked your review... covered most everything... I to was tired of taking the gas mower in each year for carb fix, despite running it out at the end of the season with conditioner. I purchased the "newer" model last spring and it has performed well. I have a side lot and it will cut all in one charge, unless, it is wet and long. I recommend it.
I only mulch... go to a golf course... pristine. 1000's of acres, probably better than your lawn.. they don't bag, but mulch (cept for the greens)... mulch returns food for the lawn. I use the #4 setting, contrary to the video.. grass likes to shade itself, healthier... but then requires slightly more often cutting.
But here's the rub.
I had an issue that the self propelled portion "seemed" to stop working. I took out the battery... replaced, no change.. charged no change... I finished cutting by pushing, not an issue.
I called the service center...after about an hour of tries, used the call back feature, i talked to a "service person". His first question was do you want to receive promotional information?... I want my mower fixed... NO.
"Would you like to take a short survey and extent the battery warranty"?... no, but ok... And I did.
Once again I described the problem.
He the then had to check for Service and went away for 5 minutes.
"We have no service center near you"... Huh? I live in the Detroit area, home of many battery powered vehicles.
His solution: "We will send you a new mower". Hard to argue about that! Still WTF? [he did not ask the right question or...solution woulda been found]
I had registered my warranty... what if I had not?
The "old" mower still works... and maybe I have found the problem...
I purchased it based on Consumer Reports rating... they were correct.
So... recommend purchase, check for local service, register machine, and battery warranty.
Received new mower today. Still in Box
Put ethanol free gas in your mowers and forget having carb issues. Always run stabil in your gas too and it will be fresh for the next mowing season. Simple inexpensive tips and a small gas engine will run virtually maintenance free for any years.
Good info, I also now want the snow blower. no more gas and iol.
Great, straightforward everyday review. Thank you for your time. Just bought the EGO 530 CFM blower and am convinced that battery is the way to go. So easy and convenient. No fuss at start up, fueling, fumes and unnecessary noise from gas powered. . Looking towards changing my gas mower and trimmer to EGO.
if you feel drooping over a 1000 cad on a mower go right ahead
Little and often mowing they're great. Beyond that, utter shite
@@robertduklus6555 Think of how much you'll spend on gas over the life of a mower. Electricity is WAY cheaper.
@@cleverusername1894 I ended up buying electric lawn mower, Toro to be specific.
It was at some point last summer and I went electric because gas powered Toros were unavailable in the models that interested me. My last gas Toro lasted 11 or 12 years repair free, I bet my electric Toro battery will not last 11-12 years and I will have to buy a new one at some point wiping out all the gas savings and then some. Dont blindly believe that anything electric will save you money over gas powered in long run. It will not.
@@robertduklus6555 You didn't do the math.
Your old mower looks great. My Ego from 5-6 years ago is faded with bird poop all over it. But it always works, no matter what.
I am looking to buy the new mower anyways. Same deal. I have the old one. The information here would have gotten me to buy the new mower before the trimmer I bought but... thank you!
Great video Brian, it made me go out and buy my first electric lawn mower. Although I didn’t buy the EGO lawn mower I went with green works from Costco as it came with a blower and another battery combo. Used it a few times already and I am loving it.
Not familiar with that one but I love Costco. You’ll never go back to gas once you go electric. A decade ago it wasn’t possible but now there’s little to no compromise going electric. I’m actually going to get an electric snow blower. Can’t wait for it to snow now. 😜
@@EverydayReviews2022 we went with a Worx 24" push mower with two lead-acid riding lawn mower batteries back in 2009. Added Worx trimmer and blower when electric versions quit. We replaced the mower batteries once then replaced the mower in 2019 with 21" push with lithium-ion 40v 8amp batteries and it is so much light to push through the yard.
The $200 Worx via eBay doesn't have all of the adjustability as the newer battery one but I do like vent on the back of the bag telling when it is full or blocked. It bags leaves very nicely in the fall with no raking the grass!
We then we got a deal on the Worx Landroid robotic mower. This is perfect those that still don't like mowing the grass as it does most of the cutting for you. You still need to edge and blow sidewalks clear.
We got a Worx snow blower for $179 on ebay too this past spring. Though watching thr reviews the your brand is the one to get especially since you have an extra battery from your mower as the wet snow can zap the battery very quickly. We'll be testing out the Worx snowblower next season!

@@sevnlight6313 on heavy, wet stuff if I try bagging it. I usually cur weekly and don't bag and the 40v 8amps works fine but is not as strong as gasoline mower, which can also clog up.
The EGO is objectively better, though. I found the greenworks stuff to be poorly made. My EGO mower shrugs off the abuse I put it through like it was nothing.
Thank you for this review! I was waiting for it ... now I can go and purchase with no hesitation 👍🏻
Go for it. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for the thorough review! I bought the snowblower first (SNT2114) and we absolutely LOVE IT! It's a beast and came with two 7.5amp batteries and a fast charger, which is more than enough power to clear our one-car-wide driveway a few times before needing to charge.
Just bought the LM2130SP (without battery or charger), since we can use the two which came with our snowblower, and although I haven't used it yet, it's a beauty. I'm very impressed with the build quality and features. Can't wait to use it in a few days! Thanks again for making this video!
Not just the mower, I have all of their power tools, what a relief to prune tall hedges and use the fibercarbon shaft trimmer, or the 650cu-ft/min blower. Also having two rapid chargers makes mowing my 1 acre lawn when the Kubota is broken. So nice to do driveway edge trimming without inhaling carcinogens, this is the one activity where the exhaust used to be right at shoulder level, goodbye Stihl.
I tried the ego and it didn't cut as well as my Honda HRX. It will not pull the grass up enough to cut and leave it uneven. If you dont care its a good machine but if you like the lawn looking great it will not be the mower for you. Lucky I bought it from a good dealer and was able to return no issue.
I have the older single-blade 21 in. self propelled Ego, as well as the newer model with the same features. Both are great; although, the new double-blade system cuts much better, leaving no longer side grass patterns, like the single blade. I have only one gripe: the new-model integral self propelled switches on either side of the handles makes it too easy to inadvertently press while grabbing the handle. These switches are basically a part of the handle, rather than a separate handle at the side. I have had a number of times where I went to grab just the handle, and pressed the integral self propel switches. Not a good idea. Now I have to adjust the self propelled speed switch to off, because this happens. When I want self propel, I then have to rotate the speed control from the off position, then press the switch(es). On the earlier models, I could simply leave the self propel speed to a pre setting, then grab the adjacent (very easy to reach and press) self propel switch. It was easy enough to do this, and no accidental forward motion incidents.
I also had a problem with the new mower, called EGO-and they sent me a new one. Great customer service!
My EGO that is about 3 years old now and has been stored in my garage will stop randomly while mowing and not from tall grass. I believe it due to the arms needing to be extended and not staying locked while mowing. There is no way to disable this feature as the arms need to be fully extended in order for the mower to start.
There is a ifixit video about this because so many people have had issues about.
I love mine, had it for two years, I have about 2/3 of an acre and can mow front and back yard in a single charge. It’s so light too, there’s no need to get the self propelled.
Great video. I'm about to buy one of these. Thanks!
You covered all the important details very well. Thanks for a great demo.
I got the EGO about 3 years ago. It is the, brushed, 21", push version (no hills). It is bigger (12") and heavier >10lbs) than my old gas mower. It is not quite as powerful as gas, but once you figure out its quirks it will do a great job. The bottom line is i like the electric over the gas for several reason. I don't have to worry about old stale gas, trouble starting, plugged air filter, changing oil every year. Some days the lawn never got mowed because my time was spent servicing and getting the gas mower started. Then there is the hour or two of tingling fingers after your mow, from the vibration of the gas engine. And lets not forget electric is very quite. you cant even hear it in the house. And one 5ah battery will mow the whole yard. And to top it all off, it folds up, and can be stood on end taking up very little space. Very expensive cost 4 times what the gas mower did, but worth it to me........
Heavier than your gas mower? My gas mower is over twice the weight of the EGO, so I'd love to know who manufactured your ultralight gas mower.
Bought a new mower 15 years ago. Takes about two gallons of gas to cut the lawn all summer.
I bought a new EGO mower last month, easily the best mower I’ve ever had.
Good video. Thinking of one for my yard. My wife helps me mow, me on rider and her as trim mower. I like the no maintenance of changing oil and gas free and folds up when not in use. I have an Ego blower and just bought an Ego trimmer, i assume they will all take same battery so they are all interchangeable.
Yes all the batteries are interchangeable with EGO. They have a ride on zero turn even.
i have the previous model that i bought about 4-5 yrs ago... the replacement batteries are a bit steep... but love the mower...i got the tirmmer and blower also. cannot recommend them enough.. although spend a bit more and get the advanced loading head... i wish i did.. it is on its 2nd blade and is due for a new one. I bought a replacement 7.5 battery that was off brand and it works great also. Never going back to gas mower again.
Great review! That’s gonna be my next mower pretty soon, can’t wait to switch from gas to electric!
~8 years on -
I still have the original that we picked up about 2 months after they launched it. Came with a 4Ah battery at that point, and that battery died (charge controller inside it failed) - they shipped a new replacement 5Ah since theyd discontinued the 4 at the time, and it's been going ever since.
The 2Ah battery that came with the original leaf blower conked out too, same issue as the older 4Ah had. Still, just using the one battery and calling it good.
My only complaint is the cost of the bare batteries - they're obviously overpriced, trying to force you into buying a tool that includes one instead
Despite my lawn being large (about 3/4 of an acre) I kind of like doing yard work, just kind of sucks when I have to trim trees and bushes and when it's crazy hot. I have a riding mower and I got a kick ass self-propelled mower too last year which is RWD which makes a massive difference over the front wheeled self-propelled ones, so much better. The biggest mistake I made was planting trees in my yard, it literally doubles the time to cut the grass. I have looked into getting a battery powered riding mower, the gas ones like I have are so loud and annoying.
They actually have a new side by side mower coming out soon. I don't have a large enough yard for that. Ride on would make it much more enjoyable😁
@@EverydayReviews2022 I can’t find anything about this online. Can you post a link?
@@KrisDiehl check out the ego website its there. And I've seen it listed for $4,999.00 on Lowes website.
I just bought this excited to use it, great review thanks for content!!!
Just FYI, there's usually no good reason to be bagging clippings. If you don't bag, they filter between the blades of grass and then decompose, releasing their nutrients back into the soil. Most of what grass clippings are is water, and once they dry out, there's very little left to them. When you bag clippings and throw them out, you're effectively just throwing your soil's fertility in the trash.
Yeah I know. It’s bag so my pets don’t track all the grass around in the house.
@@EverydayReviews2022 Great review, by the way. You hit all the important points succinctly.
The clips on mine went too. I just wrapped tape around them since I had no need to ever unclip them.
I liked to store mine upright so I used the clips all the time. Just phone them, they'll send you new ones.
Nice review! My Black and Decker lead battery non-propelled mower is on borrowed time now. 😜
Thinking of this for the self propelled feature
My gas mower is 15 years old super recycler. Maybe once it dies, rechargeable mowers will be ready for me to buy one. I think Harbor Freight's new ones might be ready. Those are 80v and the mower is self propelled and $319 and the battery is only $100. But still no way I'm getting rid of my mower before I need to. I've done stuff to it but it still runs good and the personal pace system still works.
I've had major issues with the latest generation batteries with the T after the model name. The fuel gauge ones. It's well known that lots of them are failing, in Australia. I donated my trimmer with a 2.5Ah battery to a local community garden project and sold my chainsaw to a nice guy that has the more reliable previous gen batteries.I plan to sell my mower too. EGO has not been very helpful in Australia. I've never had issues with other branded batteries. PS: I sold my equipment with the previous generation batteries - as they are more reliable. I couldn't sell my equipment in good faith with the current gen batteries...
That sucks. I still have one old gen battery but my othern4 of the new ones. Haven’t had any issues with them hopefully it stays that way.
@@EverydayReviews2022 I understand they have changed the internal cell brand. EGO said to my hardware store/supplier, not to mention this - but they were transparent and told me. There is a higher rate of failure with the new generation batteries. EGO is aware of it but have not made a public announcement as such.
My neighbor has one of these - I have the Toro 22” Flex Force 60 volt with the cast steel deck. All I can tell you is that my lawn looks so much nicer than his.
Just got the new ego brushless multiblade mower and I think the biggest con is how it takes a little time to get up to speed in self propelled mode. I wish there was an option to disable that, and go straight to desired speed on the press of the button... but I think it's a tradeoff of going brushless. My brushless hand drill does the same thing, takes a little time to get up to speed. Otherwise I love it.
I don't have this Ego 21 inch I have a different one the battery goes strait down but it works just as good. It works better then all of the gas mowers I have had. beats the crap out of the tough weeds I have on my lawn. I spent almost 700 on the Ego plus two craftsman batteries for my weed wacker. I still have more lawn to do though.
I started with their snow blower. Now looking at mowers. My toro timemaster is toooooooo heavy for me.
I have the 2nd gen Ego 21in mower and it's been pretty good for me. Only thing I don't like is how the bag pops out when I go over some rough spots. I have a huge pecan tree in the front yard so it's always bumpy. Thankfully I don't bag as much, but it's still annoying when I do lol
Thank you for the video I got the weedeater and blower and 5 amp hour and 2.5 amp hour I'm getting a mower now from them soon and all my stuff I registered and I was surprised at how easy the website was on my phone to register took me probably 20 minutes and registered everything
Nice job bro to the point no fluff. Thanks
We are in the same boat (finger eye thingy). I absolutely hate yard work and only do it because I have to. I have yet to buy an electric mower. Great video! Dude, you have a LOT of weeds! 😜
love the
battery surviving,
unit "I'm
Alive"
Can you please help me choose between self propelled and push. I have a small front yard that is mostly flat. Thanks
I'd just go push then unless you have mobility issues then for sure go self propelled. The push is quite a bit lighter. I'm in a new place now with a lot more lawn and I'm actually almost starting to enjoy it. I mow fairly late in the evening and love how quiet it is.
Thank you for being so technically detailed in your review.
I didn't spend enough money on my EGO 2102SP (7.5 AHr) and didn't get the Select Cut Series (also because my local Lowes was out of stock on the $650 units); and I feel a bit miffed that I can't use their Select Cut mulching (X-) blade kit. I figured I just get the mulching blade kit after the fact. Little did I know that you HAVE to buy the Select cut series to use their X-Blade kits. I like the mower...but feel I got burned slightly as I didn't spend enough money to benefit from all of the capabilities....
Great review 👍. I'm in a love-hate relationship with the brushless steel deck Ego. I may sell it and buy the select cut.
I just got one of these things and it isn't cutting. I have it set on 1 and grass is like 6 inches high and it does nothing. I'm really upset. Does the blade need sharpening before using it?
@@maryjo8882 You don't need to sharpen it. Setting one is at the highest setting you're talking about?
@@maryjo8882 Did you keep the button pressed while pulling the safety bar? Some people just try to click it on which does nothing.
@@maryjo8882 You probably installed the blade upside down
Great video. Very informative. I'll be looking for more videos. Thanks ☺️
