Review update: It’s finally summer where I live and the heat has a bigger impact on the battery than I was expecting. When it’s 100 degrees out the battery overheats in 10-15 minutes and drains extremely quick when it does that. We have shifted to mowing earlier when it’s in the 80s to avoid this.
@@dennismanalo12 I would NOT recommend this type mower and I really want to. I bought the LM2130SP in Feb 2021 paid well over $600 after tax. Worked well in 2021, no battery issues and it lasted the advertised length of 60 minutes. But this comes with a caveat. The grass you are cutting will need to be in that standard rule of cutting no more than 1/3 of blade length per cut, meaning it can't be too tall/thick or the battery will work harder which requires power, less battery time. But I'm okay with this, I like to cut mine approx. twice a week, my lawn never looks like it needs cutting. Here's my beef. at the beginning of 2022 (Feb /Mar) it was stalling for no reason (not a battery issue). It would run for 10-20 minutes and then just stop. I'd let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes and it would run again then stop, this happened on 3 different days. After checking for obvious things, I found nothing. Called EGO & took it to an authorized dealer (an hour from my home). They kept it for 3 weeks and said they could not find an issue. I got it back & it worked fine with no stalling until 1 Oct, it did it again. I opened the main casing & it was pretty dirty (dusty, but mainly brown grassy debris). Blew & vacuumed it out. Use it two more times, end of season cuts with no issues. Thought I might have found my stalling issues. This year 2023, Feb 4 and 5 I did some early cutting, mainly just picking up old dead grass prepping for the spring. It stalled again on the second day's cut, 5 Feb. Opened it up, had some debris, not much, blew it out, finished up, it was only about 5 more minutes of work. Feb 22, 2023, went to continue my spring prep and it stalled again. I opened the casing again, but there's nothing there since I just cleaned it up. This $600+ mower got me very frustrated. And this is not an issue of me attempting to cut overgrown/thick grass. I've scoured the internet and can't really find anyone with my specific issue. And It's NOT the battery, I do know some have the issue of wiring getting pinched at the fold point. I've tried fiddling with wires and such and not finding anything a faulty point. My next move is to do a more thorough teardown. It feels like the motor (not the battery, I'm NOT getting any cautionary lighting indicators either) is overheating from NOT enough airflow and the motherboard is shutting it down as a safety precaution, but I'm just guessing at this point. And the weather is a nice 60-70 degrees. Besides, I have used this mower without incident during 90 degree days. Anywho, whatever is going with this mower, I'm not happy. It's a good thing I kept my 15 year old gas mower. Sure, sick of the gas maintenance stuff but it works and has been for the last 15 years with the usual gas mower maintenance practices.

@@tyhuber7651 To this day (12 May 2023), I'm still having stalling or just not starting issues with my EGO. And it's random. Within the past 30 days (Apr/May 2023) I've called EGO twice more. They go through a script. Basically, asking a series of questions (which I understand why they do this). But it's very frustrating when I'm reporting the very same problem over & over and getting slightly different answers, but never solving my problem. And guess what it seems to work when I called them. My daughter witnessed this just the other day as she wanted to try out the EGO mower, it would not start. Bought one last year. Hands down, the very best mower I’ve ever owned. Ok. It was the most expensive mower I’ve ever owned but what’s the expression? Buy quality, you’ll only cry once? Very true with this very powerful, very light (you needed to mention that important feature) lawn mower. Plus, NO GAS and NO OIL messiness just makes mowing a much more pleasant overall experience. My wife even uses it…she loves it. Spend a little more, folks, you won’t be sorry.
The wife & kid factor is a big one. When I was out of town a few summers ago, my wife & daughter (16yrs) had to hassle with getting gas, trying to pull start, etc. They had to call me to get help. I have 3 kids, and since it is easier to use, I'll have them mow more. That is priceless!
Great review. I have a second GEN self-propelled with the 7.5 battery and I’ve always charged it on the quick charger and I mow 3 to 4 times a week for almost 6 years now and this thing has not missed a beat at all. I’ve always had Honda but ego is absolutely wonderful and I look forward to getting one of the newer models
Great review. I have an electric push mower and at 80 years old I am getting wiped out cutting grass here in Florida. Most of my tools (edger and blower are Ego and work great. I am looking at the LM2135 as a replacement. Of course there is not a decent sale on them right now. UGH!
Now that's what I call a great review. I was on the fence on whether or not to purchase this. Being I have multiple Ego products and a half dozen of their batteries. Wanted to get to that world of "quiet" cutting where I can actually hear music while wearing my head phones when mowing grass.
If you can charge it on a slower charger typically it will extend the life of the battery. At least all modern li-ion systems behave this way. If the mfr. would include a slower charge option with the noted rapid charger that would be nice too.
Just in case no one has said this already... This video is excellent ! I've watched about 50+ videos on the Ego in last few days, and this one touches on points in a way that a new buyer would really want to see. Thank you. Say, do you have any "year" printed on your battery / charger or the mower body itself?
New subscriber here. I have had a Ryobi 40v 21” mower for 5-8 years (I don’t remember). It has been nice having a lighter mower and not dealing with gas issues. The batteries can be trouble and I don’t think a 10 year life span is reality. It could happen I suppose. I have not seen great reliability in their batteries and have had to take them apart. This is mainly the lower 18v tool batteries of Ryobi. Anyway I like the battery tools and have batteries to cover my needs whether it is saws, drills, or mowers. Thanks for the video.
I’m surprised no one in UA-cam mentions the wheely effect once self propelled is engage and disengage and the difference it makes on the hight of the deck. The one I bought is back wheel drive and I regret buying it.
@@Jeff-vj3jp Highly recommend! This mower does the job our our very uneven 1.5 acre lot with ease. BTW: I see here that many got a free battery at purchase (nice). We didn't get that deal, but the battery recharges very quickly (and our electric company gave us a $100 rebate).
Note that the figure of seven ft-lbs of torque refers to the design of the motor, not to the battery's capacity in amp-hours (Ah), which for the Ego 2135SP is 7.5 Ah with the included battery. The Ah figure for the battery is what you'd use to determine the runtime per charge. If you want a longer runtime, you'd buy a battery with more Ah, such as Ego's 10 Ah battery, but that won't give you more ft-lbs of torque.
Thanks for this video, I was just looking at one of these today at Lowes, I will soon need to replace my 2007 TroyBilt 21" self propelled mower as the deck is splitting at the rear left edge top to where the left rear wheel mount is, When it breaks there, I don't think I can fix it. That is why I am looking at other mowers, I like the way you compared the two, And until I can really look at one underneath the deck, I don't see why you can't hose this out, I am thinking maybe the Warning against using a hose may be because of some people may just blast the entire mower and get water inside places where water should not be, Thus Idiot Proof Warnings! We see them on a lot of products today. But I enjoyed this review and now I have to look into these a bit more, Thanks, And be safe.
Thanks for decoding the silly number scheme. Ego really needs to simplify their mower product line. It's just crazy confusing. I just bought a LM2130 which is the same as this mower but without the Self Propel and without any included battery. The mower is great, very light and easy to push which is what I wanted. I didn't want the self propel because my lawn is flat. My plan was to use my 2 2.5 ah batteries with this. But be advised, the mower works fine but only lasts about 15 mins with a 2.5 ah battery. I ended up having to buy a battery separately (bought a blower/battery/charger combo as it was the cheapest way to get a 5.0ah battery). Be advised that buying batteries or chargers buy themselves are ridiculously expensive so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying a mower with a battery (5.0 or higher for a decent run time) already included. I have had great success with ego lawn products and really enjoy using them however I don't like paying the electric tax....ie....these items are expensive even though they are pretty simple mechanical units. I am happy to be done with gas cans, oil, spark plugs. I recommend only cutting the grass when it is very dry. The battery will last longer and the grass doesn't stick to the deck at all if dry.
I updated this review in the description. If you live in an extremely hot area be aware it drains the battery really quick in high heat. We mow early in the morning because if this. It’s 96-100 degrees with 108-113 humidity heat index
@@1UpNerdcore Interesting...I just made the purchase. Yes, I'm in a hot climate, South Central Texas. Of course I try to avoid the mowing during the high temps of the day. Question? the quick drain, are we talking from a 60 minute runtime to what, 45 minutes? Thanks for pointing out the update!
@@1UpNerdcore that was confusing me with your review - I have seen the one with the two batteries slots (you can still use it with one battery fitted) but I thought they must of changed form the two battery to one bigger battery - thank you for the calefaction
I just got the EGO Select Cut XP a few weeks ago with the 10AH battery. It's 8.3 ft-lb of torque compared to the 7 of the Select cut in this review and the 6.25 ft-lb of my gas Toro. Where the Toro would bog down this XP just speeds up and plows on thru. When the grass is dry I can mow my whole yard 1/4 acre in about 50-55 minutes on the one battery using the mulching blade. When the grass is wet I get about 80% done on the 10AH battery and then have to swap in the 5AH battery from my leaf blower to finish the job. It will use about 20% of that battery to finish.
My EGO 7.5 ah battery died after 14 months. Didn't register it, so no warranty. $400 to replace the battery. On the fence because the mower cuts horribly. It tends to bend the grass over instead of cutting it.
I'm old enough to remember when the choices were to bag or to side-discharge. Mulching blades/systems changed all that. Is there any benefit to side-discharge? I'm puzzled why that option is even available these days. Is it for the pro-raking community? Does it conserve battery power? Why would anyone choose to throw a thick path of clippings onto their yard if they didn't have to?
hmm... that's rather odd? Because any Ego product that ends in a "0" is a tool only option, doesn't come with a battery nor a charger. Are you sure you have the right part #? $600 is awful expensive for a "Tool only" product.
@@BumpNrun69mower came with a 7.5 battery with a 5.0 spare and the really big rapid charger, seemed like a good deal, got mower trimmer 4 batteries and 2 chargers, so I got the blower from Amazon tool only, they work great, I think I got a good deal.
Bought mine 2 years ago….battery was defective out of the box and 2 seasons later it won’t start. I can count how many times I’ve used this and it’s already going in for warranty repair leaving me borrow my neighbors mower during summer. Stick with a gas mower. Had my Toro for 22 years and it was still working when I sold it. Very disappointed.
I can understand why the self-propel mode would remain active even when the mower is off (I assume this just means when the motor and blades aren't spinning), in case you need or just want help moving the mower when you're not actually mowing. So when you don't need need self-propel, you need to be careful not to accidentally press the big green paddle switch buttons on the handle. But doesn't the speed control dial in the middle of the handle turn off self-propel when you turn this dial to 'off'?
I got one last yr. I hate it. Miss my gas one. The gas just cuts better and does not need raked afterwards like the electric. The only time this cuts right is if I use it like a vacuum pushing back & forth.
On the electric mower make sure you cut every line twice! If you encounter mohawks in the grass cut the line forward then go backwards on the same line sliding you foot backwards so the lawn mower can cut the mohawk right the second time! Do this and you never have to go back to gas mowers again! There are some things you have to do to help out your electric mower but if you keep your blade sharpened and use these techniques then you’ll have no problems with your electric mower!
I have a few slopes I cut, and the mower wants to roll back when turning at the end of the run, and the rear wheel drive does not kick in for about 4-5 seconds. My old Husqvarna AWD was fantastic, but those mowers are notm made anymore. And I still miss the sound of a gas mower.......
Thanks for your review. I'm curious about the side discharge. You said you don't use it and I wonder, are the clippings discharged anywhere or do they stay under the mower deck? If mulching, would the side discharge not be recommended? I intend to purchase this mower but just had a curiosity question. Thanks for posting.
Could you update on the cleaning underneath ? I am having a difficult time and would love to be able to hose it down . Takes longer to clean than to mow 😩
I recently purchased an EGO LM2135SP and primarily pushed the mower through most of my yard (until I get familiar with the self-propelled feature driving the rear wheels). It pushes fairly easily. My only concern is that if your yard has bumps, the side rails may slip which cause the mower's motor to stop. Then you need to unlock the green clamps and extend the side rails and re-clamp to get the mower to run again. Hope this helps...
This mower is great without the self propel (LM2130). It is extremely light and easy to push. I can slow down, speed up, as needed or pull the mower back to redo a spot. I went with no propel because I have a flat lawn and alot of reviews said they don't even use the self propel much. Make sure to get a mower package that includes a good size battery and charger. If you get the LM2130 (no battery), buying a battery by itself and a charger is almost the price of the lawn mower!!!
My battery just gave out on my after a little over a year so I’ll be doing a follow up video talking about the process of getting it replaced. If you have a big yard or thick grass don’t get this lawn mower
Yeah, the lights on EGO products are weird. My chainsaw has a light -- seriously, who the hell would be using a chainsaw of all things without adequate dedicated lighting?
I do have a quick question. My front yard slopes into a ditch and some battery powered mowers have a 15 degree cutoff if the mover is tilted more than 15 degrees. Do you know if the 2135 has that feature? It cannot be bypassed as I understand it. But I can just mow parallel with the ditch if it does and use a string trimmer on the steep parts.
For hills, especially for my son, it’s necessarily to have self propel. I haven’t used any other electric lawn mowers but they have a 2 battery version I wish lowes had because I would have gotten that one.
I noticed in your video it says do not cut wet grass, I live in an area where it’s very humid and our grass does not dry out completely. So if I cut the grass wet will this hurt the mower?
I have thick fescue grass no weeds small yar 2500 square feet been following this mod and toro SR 60v hard decision to make probably lean to this how is it on thick grass your opinion
My grass isn’t super thick. It can get thick if we miss a week of mowing but it’s just like a regular mower where I have to go slow and let the grass clear before it stops the blades
$100 off at Lowe's? What Lowe's? I've been watching the prices closely for a year and there has never been a sale on these. What time of year is this "sale?"
EGO has a battery problem. I bought an EGO lawnmower in 2021. My only concern was how long the battery would last. That turned out to be a valid concern. The original battery stopped working in 6 months. Fortunately, they replaced it under warranty. Unfortunately, 6 months later the replacement stopped working. They told me their replacements aren't covered by warranty so I was SOL. The only option they offered was to purchase a new battery at the retail price. Which was more than I paid for the mower originally. Fool me once...back to a gas mower for me.
These battery mowers aren't whisper-quiet by any means, but they don't approach the sound of a roaring internal combustion gas engine. It's hard to get a real sense of the difference on a video, but it's plain as day when you're operating the machine.
It means something’s wrong. I can’t remember what the manual says but the blade could be stuck, the batter could be could be over heated, or the battery could be dead.
I am concerned about the comment that you have to hold a button the entire time you mow. I am older and that seems like a deal breaker. Is it as difficult as I imagine it to be? I tied my gas mower lever up while moving so I didn't have to deal with holding it to engage.
Additionally, you have to change blades to bag? See.s like another deal braker as it not being able to hose the bottom. I think i made my decision to pass based on these these 3 factors
Once the mower is started, there is no button you have to hold down to mow. But if you want to engage the self-propel, you have to press and hold one (or both) of the self-propel triggers, which you could also call a button, rather than pulling a lever or bar back. There are 2 other buttons but you only have to press them briefly: the safety button for starting the motor, and the LED lights button which is an on/off toggle. You don't need to change the blades to bag, but the bagging blade is designed specifically for high-lift to move more clippings into the bag.
The self propelled mode is optional and the mower is so light you don’t even need to use it! At least you don’t have to hold both buttons down to self propel you only need to hold down one button and the bail switch! You have lights at least you don’t even have lights on gas mowers! It’s a quiet machine to! Gas mowers are LOUD!
Yes, I just bought this model last night, the LEDs on the charger will be solid, the battery LEDs will be off, once the fan shuts off, you're good to go. Of course it's raining today so I have to wait for my first run.
Great mower until the warranty is over and you have to buy a $250.00 dollar battery. I have Zoysia grass and to set the lawn mower to the lowest setting made the motor over heat and destroying the life of the battery in less than one year.I bought another Honda gas mower where like my old mower I got 15 years on the same lawn. Other problem is the engage the self-propell the wheels lock when backing the mower up. Plus storing the lawnmower like I do folding the mower will get a short in the wires. The blades are horrible on Zoysia, I replace mine twice in less than one year. The only great thing about electric your helping the environment by using electric. 😂🎉
While the lawn mower is ok the battery is a complete disaster. It simply does not hold it's charge over time. After just 4.5 years the battery completely failed and won't hold any charge. A replacement battery is not economical and costs nearly as much as the entire lawn mower. A battery with that short of a life is not good for the planet and definitely not good for your wallet. I discussed the problem with Ego but since it was past the warranty period they wouldn't do anything about it. I've also had issues with their trimmer with the string not properly feeding. It's a design flaw as they replaced the defective trimmer and the replacement still has similar problems. My recommendation is to completely avoid Ego products. The battery is subject to fail and their products are not very reliable. Most of the positive reviews on Amazon are based on short-term results. I've been using Ego products for nearly 5 years and won't be purchasing another one of their poorly designed products.
So the selling point would only if I wanted the lights? I bought the lawnmower for the many features I talk about in the video. I literally say it’s not something I would want or need but I can see it being useful for other people.
Who cares from 1" from 1 1/4" cutting height? Don't need to change oil that often, filters can be cleaned a few times. Overall it is cheaper to buy and use gas powered. You have been fooled.

Outstanding job on the review. Thanks for sharing as I know it takes some time to put these together. I am off to order my new mower!
UGH!
just bought a ego lm2132sp on amazon prime day that retailed for 699 on sale for 529
@@billhyman1731 Darn, I missed it.
Thanks, I got a great deal I got mine 2 days ago & at Lowes, it was $599. & cam with an extra battery free so I have 2 batteries
Now that's what I call a great review. I was on the fence on whether or not to purchase this. Being I have multiple Ego products and a half dozen of their batteries. Wanted to get to that world of "quiet" cutting where I can actually hear music while wearing my head phones when mowing grass.
Thanks for the review. Just got one to replace a Kobalt battery mower.
Excellent review! :) I appreciated the sound comparison to the gas mower! 🙏
Mine says January 2021 on the mower, right next to the serial.
Thanks for mentioning this. I thought this might be the case especially with the angle of the handle so I stuck with non propelled.
Excellent video. We've purchased our EGO LM2135SP, looking forward to our first cut.
Did it work out ok, do you recommend?
Extremely informative review, thank you, it was very helpful!
I'm looking at this self-propelled mower, good video to aid in my decision making.
Very detailed review, thanks!
Very nice review - a number of people have said get a second battery with this mower but I am thinking it is dependent on the size of your yard
I won’t need it because my yard is so small. They have another mower that has dual battery slots for longer mows.
It will use about 20% of that battery to finish.
and your energy level, I'm needing a rest by the time the battery needs to be charged
My EGO 7.5 ah battery died after 14 months. Didn't register it, so no warranty. $400 to replace the battery. On the fence because the mower cuts horribly. It tends to bend the grass over instead of cutting it.
Got mine on sale for $499.99 plus extra battery. I love it, much better than my gas powered Murray.
From where?
Great review sir, well done
Excellent review! I’m sold.
I'm old enough to remember when the choices were to bag or to side-discharge. Mulching blades/systems changed all that. Is there any benefit to side-discharge? I'm puzzled why that option is even available these days. Is it for the pro-raking community? Does it conserve battery power? Why would anyone choose to throw a thick path of clippings onto their yard if they didn't have to?
side discharge is useful when the grass is super thick/tall, helps prevent stalling
Mulch its free fertilizer snd cut high!
Mine is a LM2130SP, Came with battery and spare battery also $599 from Lowe’s, main battery 7.5ah with 5.0 2nd battery
hmm... that's rather odd? Because any Ego product that ends in a "0" is a tool only option, doesn't come with a battery nor a charger.
Are you sure you have the right part #? $600 is awful expensive for a "Tool only" product.
@@BumpNrun69yes, got it from Lowe’s, 1st EGO product, also got trimmer, both had a battery and a spare.
@@BumpNrun69my blower I got from Amazon was a tool only, S/N ends in 502X
@@BumpNrun69mower came with a 7.5 battery with a 5.0 spare and the really big rapid charger, seemed like a good deal, got mower trimmer 4 batteries and 2 chargers, so I got the blower from Amazon tool only, they work great, I think I got a good deal.
I got one from someone he had literally nothing for it no bag, side discharge or mulch plug 😑 hopefully I can afford to at least get the plug soon
Very disappointed.
thank you for this well made review video! subscribed :)
Thank you 🙏🏼
I can understand why the self-propel mode would remain active even when the mower is off (I assume this just means when the motor and blades aren't spinning), in case you need or just want help moving the mower when you're not actually mowing.
Great overview, thanks!
It just drops under the mower deck. You could try side discharge for mulching
Very well done.
Steve if you did not know EGO sells a snowplough as well
Yup :) I have a leaf blower from ego also
Could you update on the cleaning underneath ? I am having a difficult time and would love to be able to hose it down . Takes longer to clean than to mow 😩
We just clean it out as needed but not after every mow. No water just hand with glove in for big pieces.
did it come with the bagger, the mulching plus and a side discharge adapter?
Yes 👍🏻
Have you used this mower without the self propelled option? I purchased one today and it’s a push model. How difficult is it to push on a level lot?
It’s nice for you to have two mowers that one of them is a back up
I have one of these in my ACE shopping cart. Do you still have it and use it? worth it? I'm also planning on getting the 24" snowblower. 👍🏻
Emergency cases for chainsaw lol? I have had to finish mowing late because it was too hot. Not pitch-dark but dusk.
I don’t know the slope of our yard but it doesn’t do it with ours and I haven’t seen anything that says it has that feature.
is self propel a necssity? I understand you said it could have a better buttons function. What mower would be your 2nd choice if not EGO?
For hills, especially for my son, it’s necessarily to have self propel. I haven’t used any other electric lawn mowers but they have a 2 battery version I wish lowes had because I would have gotten that one.
There is a two bettery model? Any idea of price,m
still dont know weather to go for this or the steel bodied one they make,
Question has anyone had to replace the blades? easy? Cost?
I noticed in your video it says do not cut wet grass, I live in an area where it’s very humid and our grass does not dry out completely.
So if I cut the grass wet will this hurt the mower?
It’s just not quite as powerful as a gas mower of the same size so I think it’ll get choked up from the thick wet grass more often
Is the housning with the motor and blades made of fiber glass, plastic or metal? Is it METAL?
It’s metal from what I can tell
$100 off at Lowe's? What Lowe's? I've been watching the prices closely for a year and there has never been a sale on these. What time of year is this "sale?"
Lowe’s is a hardware store in the US and it was during the month I bought this only
EGO has a battery problem.
Will it function on smaller batts for example a 4.0 AH Ego batt?
All the slots seem to be the same but the smaller battery means a much smaller run time
So yes it will work 👍🏻
The gas mower and Ego mower have similar motor sounds and both sound like gas mowers.
These battery mowers aren't whisper-quiet by any means, but they don't approach the sound of a roaring internal combustion gas engine. It's hard to get a real sense of the difference on a video, but it's plain as day when you're operating the machine.
What happens when it doesn't want to turn on and the orange light comes on
It means something’s wrong.
You don’t have to hold down the button
Great mower for older folks because you don’t have to lift it into a truck once a year to take it in for service or haul a gas can around in the trunk
Does charger shut off by itself
Yes 👍🏻
Yes, I just bought this model last night, the LEDs on the charger will be solid, the battery LEDs will be off, once the fan shuts off, you're good to go. Of course it's raining today so I have to wait for my first run.
your grass is full of weeds hahahaha
Come over and spray it to help out 😎
Figuring out the horsepower is not hard!!
What is it? My electrical engineer client had to help me
merci elle peut couper herbe 20 cm?
I sold mine and bought a ryobi way better , enjoy
Did you get another battery powered mower?
@@timanderson5723 Not yet. I'm borrowing my neighbor's battery before I take the plunge on a new mower.
You really should be wearing gloves when changing the blades or removing them for sharpening... Safety first.
The lights may not be for you then why did you buy the lawn mower? What's not good for you may be good for others!!
