    The mower comes with a mulching blade attached, all those extra slits on the back help mulch the grass into smaller pieces. The blade you got is a high lift blade, made for the side chute or bagger. My mower came with 3 blades and a top blade that is always used with one of the other 3 blades, called X cut or cross cut. The only blade I have used is the mulching and I have not had any issues. The thing with mulching is you need to mow at least 2x a week, maybe even 3x if it's growing fast. Ideally your only cutting 1/4-1/2" off the top of the grass so the small pieces can fall back to the ground. The grass you show here is WAY to tall to mulch, so the blade you were using was not the correct one for side discharge. What was the model number of the mower you purchased? I'm surprised you don't have the upper blade or the extra 2 blades.
    Oh, I forgot to mention that I use a regular Libman straight bristle kitchen broom to clean under my mower every time I mow. Do it as soon as your finished mowing, it takes less than a minute, if you wait and let the grass dry it will be much harder to remove. Be sure to remove the battery, flip the mower on it's side and use the broom to clean the grass from under your mower. The long handle of the broom means your hands never get close to the blades. I use the broom then switch to the Ego blower to blow all the dust and clippings stuck to the mower off.
    Oh, I also forgot to mention that I applied Nu Finish car wax to the underside of the mower deck, where the blades are, before I every did my first cut. I will be doing this throughout the year, as hardly any grass sticks to the deck and if it does the broom knocks it right off without any trouble.

      Wow this comment is EXTREMELY HELPFUL I truly appreciate it and everything you said here is definitely GREAT I will clean mine out every time now as well and the wax tip is excellent idea. Gonna pin this comment because it's definitely right on point. I'm not sure the exact model but it only has 1 blade. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺

      Diz is definitely correct. Most people mulch so they only provide a mulching blade. The higher end models provide different types of blades, high lift and eco. It helps having the proper tool for the job. In this case the high lift. I will the admit chute discharge is flawed in the ego and not as good as its gas counter part. The newest aluminum model improves on this but they still aren't quite there when it come to side discharge. Having the proper tool and using it in the way as its intended will yield the best results. Being in engineering and helping end users I come across many people's frustrations stems from improper use and expectations that don't align with the intention of the product. I have an ego and manual lists the blades names and p/n's. Alternatively, they can be found on their website. If you plan to mulch with mulching blade and plug inserted you can not cut as much as you did and have good results. You have cut more frequently and remove less of the height at a time, not much more than a half inch. It's also less stressful on the grass to remove no more than a third of its height at a time.

    Thank you for taking the time to help those on the fence about buying a battery-powered lawnmower.
    I've used EGO lawnmowers and other tools (blower, string trimmer, and chainsaw) for about 8 years. I have two complaints. Firstly, the battery drains quickly if you use the lawnmower's propelled feature. Secondly, in hot (upper 80s plus) weather, batteries may overheat. And I do mean they get almost too hot to handle with bare hands. And they will not recharge either until they cool off. It will take a while (twenty-plus minutes) even if you allow the quick charger's fan to cool it off.
    There may be a safety issue involved too. Hypothetically, of course, as all batteries fail eventually, even leak or explode. But I have not heard of any EGO batteries doing either so far. I just mentioned it as a precaution to change the battery sooner than usual if you suspect overheating in hotter-than-usual weather.
    This is my second Summer owning the 10-amp 56-volt self-propelled model with the X blade. I only mulch unless I let the grass get too tall then I must use the bagger and change to the proper blade for it. I have thick grass and the X blade does a wonderful job mulching. I don't let the grass grow too tall or it will bog down the mower, stopping it completely even on the highest setting. Thick tall grass will also drain the battery quickly due to the extra torque required to mulch the thick grass.
    BTW, my house sits on a level 3/4 acre and the 10-amp battery has never completed the full lawn: front, rear, and two sides. I have several batteries, so it is not an issue. But if you have a big lawn, use the self-propelled feature, have hills, and just one battery...good luck!

    I don't have an Ego,but bought a Stihl 20" battery mower in 2017. I just finished my 7th season with it,and love it. I traded in a 21" self propelled Toro Personal Pace gas job,and can only say *good riddance*! The blade that was on there is a mulching blade. It’s meant to cut the lawn more often so you are cutting small increments of the top of your lawn. This means you should use the mulch plug/setting. Allowing it to cut your lawn even finer instead of shooting it out.

    • @jarrettbyrom2747
      @jarrettbyrom2747 4 місяці тому

      This! If you dont cut every 7 days or even longer, the mulching blade isnt the best option. Since most people dont mow two to three times a week they should probably ship with standard blades. Id say that was atleast 2 weeks worth of grass and well more than a 50% HoC so mulching blades are going to perform poorly. If you mow often sat every 7 days or 2 or 3 times a week id just leave this blade on.

    I got the EGo that came with 3 blades. It is a dual blade mower actually. The blade that is switched is the blade closest to the grass. I switched it out to a high lift blade. I live up North so fescue and Kentucky blue is what I have. It worked like a charm. I changed out to the mulch blade because I know we will get leaves late into December and my town stops picking them up. So I mulch after cutting it low. Catcher is a bit disappointing after owning it for two years otherwise we all like it. Do clean out the deck at the end of the session.

    I switched to electric for everything from my lawn mower to my garden tiller to my mini chain saw and a bunch of other tools. Still have my gas mower and chain saw in case there's a serious need, but for my homeowner jobs, I don't think I'll be using them again. Gas mowers are more powerful, but being able to just push a button and go without the mess of oil and gas is great. I can fold up the mower and put it on the wall. Batteries are useful for so many things. I've had 8 of them since 2021 and they are all still doing fine (store them inside at about 60 degrees in the basement).
    That being said, there are issues and I respect the people who have had bad experiences. I think its just part of being a new technology. In the future, I think tools will get better, cheaper, and more powerful. If you like gas, go for it. For me, I've made the change.

    My last gas mower lasted 2 decades and that included seizing the motor up one time for lack of oil. No repair needed, just added oil and spun the blade around. Only parts I ever needed was a set of wheels. I looked at Ego and for the size of my lawn I would need 2 batteries. The cost was around $1,200 total. I bought another gas mower for $500 before the sales of gas mowers and blowers is banned.

    You are correct that all EGO walk behind lawn mower models should come with the high lift blade and not just the SelectCut models. That been said, all single blade 21" models can easily use the SelectCut dual blade set, fan and washer to convert it into a SelectCut mower to achieve smaller clippings when side discharging. Warranty will not be covered by EGo with this conversion. Regarding the rear side discharge chute on all 21" models, they are pointing in the opposite direction of the blade rotation and that is why they don't eject very far and can get clogged easily. On the new 22" aluminum residential and commercial mowers, EGO has corrected this issue by ejecting the clippings to the left side according to the rotation direction of the blades and the clippings are shooting as far as 4+ feet away with wide even spray that does not create any clumps or clogging at the exit point.

    I used to have an Ego dual blade mower. It was equipped with the toothed muncher blade. Did great for me. The high lift bag blade and an another style mulch blade came with the mower. I am throgh with lawn care products that use large lithium battery’s. They make good house igniters. The house fire I went thru could have been attributed to these battery’s. I also had an Ego ride mower that used 4 of those Ego battery’s. I am going back to gas-if you stay with the lithium battery’s DO NOT KEEP THEM IN YOUR HOUSE OR ATTACHED GARAGE! Appliances that use small lithium battery’s don’t seem to be a problem. Right now use a lawn service to do my lawn. With that no gas or large battery’s to start a fire.. and my battery’s were not being charged at the time. My garage had no door so it’s very hot in summer-cold in winter. The Ego mowers were great but the battery’s are something I will stay away from. We need a new safer battery alternative.

If I go to another cordless electric mower will go back to the ones that use lead acid batteries. Those were safe and did not erupt suddenly. All it takes is one lithium cell in the mower battery pack to ignite and spread to others. As I was running from the house did hear the unmistakable sound of a hissing battery. Didn’t hang around! Ran out as fast as I could go. Lithium battery fires cannot be put out. Once they start-that’s it they burn until the batteries burned out.

    I had major issues with my batteries failing with Ego products in Australia. I love the products but the batteries must have had a bad production batch or something - there was a suggestion of a pallet arriving that was somewhat wet after heavy rain. My local hardware said numerous customers had returned failing batteries. In the end, it was just too stressful with three of my batteries failing/dying after only a matter of weeks or months. Even though my local hardware store was great and gave me two free batteries from their own stock, the stress was too much and so I sold my EGO mower, chainsaw and line trimmer cheaply. I actually gave away my trimmer to a local gardening group and then the battery failed not long after. I have moved to another brand and have not had one battery fail in years. EGO is not very helpful in Australia, they were not very supportive. To this day, they have not even replied to my enquiry about my failing batteries. I was polite and respectful with my enquiry too. My local hardware store said that EGO Australia was difficult to work with. I hope they have now improved with their customer service. Take care all.

    What’s all this blade swapping nonsense… my Honda HRX came with dual blade system… bag, mulch, discharge or combination uses the same blade setup. All settings cut like a champ.. then you have to eventually replace the battery at $3/400? That’s if the mower itself lasts that long… no thanks… I’ll stick with my 12 year old Honda

    Imagine being willing to throw a $400+ lawn mower away because the $20 dollar blade doesn't cut as you expected it to. LOL The "key" to your problem was to NOT let your grass grow that tall to begin with. The grass was too heavy for the blade to lift and blow it out of the back. Your new blade did nothing to help cut the grass better, rather, it's design (without the cutouts on the mulch part of the blade) just helps create more suction to blow the grass out of the back. That's the only thing that new blade did for you. But, I guess if you're going to let your grass grow that tall in between cuts, then you need that new blade to compensate.
    Furthermore, I hope the rest of your yard is way bigger or sloped to justify buying a self-propelled model because the wheels have ball bearings in them and they roll like butter. You don't need a self-propelled mower for a perfectly flat, extremely small yard like that. Just more mechanical parts that may eventually wear out and fail that also drain the battery faster.
    From my perspective, you're spending extra money due to your bad mowing habits and laziness.

      Let's see throw my money away, absolutely did not happen. And as far as the yard getting tall I believe I said I purposely let it get tall for the video now let's examine the rest of your long post. As for my self-propelled part of the lawn mower you have no clue only making accusations of why I purchased one with self-propelled options. I don't need to tell you why I did just know for your own goodness I didn't need self-propelled not for me though. The new blade actually did work exactly like it's supposed to it through the grass out the back as you I believe stated it did nothing for me, I've had nothing but great success since. And I don't use that mower for anything else I have a bigger yard I have a lawn tractor that I use. Thanks for your long input it was quite comical to read actually had me laughing out loud. I appreciate your time and you watching have a great day

    Didn't you research this at all before purchase?? The supplied blade is the high-lift blade, designed to direct the grass into the bag. You are MULCHING, so guess what - the 'mulching' blade (the second one you bought) is better at that particular job than the first one. Big F***in' Surprise!
    Perhaps other commenters here need to watch some other videos as well, to make a better-informed assessment of this mower/manufacturer?

      Well not sure how you are coming at me with this comment. So I'll be neutral with my response. I didn't research it because 1 my brother has one and his is great and he cuts his 2 times a week so he doesn't have an issue. 2 I have other products from ego and they are flawless. So why would I have thought anything else about my decision. As far as blade is concerned, I don't know of any other videos that mention that, not saying that there is not any other video but I have not seen anyone mention it. End.

      @@Puddles-j1q put the bag on - with which the standard, high-lift blade is designed to be used - you'll see whether it works it not. I must have watched 20 videos of this mower, yet the ONLY negative comments have all been made under this one.

    • @MountaineerOutdoors
      @MountaineerOutdoors  5 місяців тому +1

      So I did try the bag and it did still clump up. It's possible that maybe my blade just may have been a defective one. All in all I do not mulch my grass. I put on the rear chute and let it fly. Correct me if I am wrong but mulching is keeping the grass under the mower where it keeps, for a lack of better words keeps cutting it until it's nothing but fine grass clippings. And there is no outlet except for under the mower. I know that is debatable because depending on where you look and the terminology it can go either way. Bottom line is it should include both blades in my opinion.

    These mowers are now made of cheap chinese plastic parts that break within a year or two. EGO doesn't oversee its own warranty shops, and they charge you hundreds for warranty repairs. It's a scam.

I threw it in the trash and i will not buy another ego product. My son bought the lawnmower and i used it on his lawn, not a fan. I will stick with gas. if you have a small lawn maybe its ok for you but gas is definitely still the way to go.
