Lyrics:
Snow covers every path
Stumbling, no turning back
Pushing further till I fall
Looking up, I hear him call
What’s known is now lost forever
Endless shadows lead the way
No cover from the sun
Crumbling, fall one by one
Look in envy at the dead
They took pity as they said
What’s known is now lost forever
Endless shadows lead the way
Don’t go searching for the battle
You won’t find any beasts to slay
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir
Black waters in our wake
Sinking, await our fate
Our dead future has arrived
Dark refrain - we can’t deny
What’s known is now lost forever
Endless shadows lead the way
Don’t go searching for the battle
You won’t find any beasts to slay
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir
Don’t go searching for the battle
You won’t find any beasts to slay
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir
From the depths
I will rise
From the ground to the sky
From the depths
I will rise
From the ground to the sky
From the depths
I will rise
From the ground to the sky
From the depths
I will rise
From the depths
I will rise
Don’t go searching for the battle
You won’t find any beasts to slay
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir
Don’t go searching for the battle
You won’t find any beasts to slay
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir
Snow covers every path
Stumbling, no turning back
You’ll rip yourself to pieces
You’ll drive yourself insane
In the shadow of the abattoir

Not enough people are commenting how amazing the video is. The story, camera work, set and props... A whole movie with no dialogue. I need a sequel. I need... 😩
You'll get chapter V I guess
It will end the same way. That was the point of the story.
I kinda want it to turn into a tv show now
I was thinking the same. This is a cinematic masterpiece. Enough to become a movie or something
This is one of my favorite songs on the entire album. The video is pretty amazing too.
3:25 that photo of Matt when he finished super Mario as a kid lmao
Shadow of the Abattoir is a f*cking masterpiece. The song is as great as it is underrated.
We will wait meet Trivium at Bangkok Thailand
I follow you 17 years
You are my favorite band.
The influence of Iron Maiden in the guitar and bass lines at the start is so apparent. Killer track!
“The Final Chorus is faster and/or heavier and/or a different key” might be my favorite metal trope.
It's kino
absolutes kino
My favorite song from the album. It was great hearing this live at The Pageant! Was the main song I was hoping to hear this time! Got it recorded 😁.
Good to see other StarCraft Metal fans out there.
#stl 🤘
Damn I missed another good show in stl
@@MetalMan1245 I've had it so long i don't even remember where i got it lol.
@@mattcasteel84 There's a few more there i'm going to. Like i think Amon Amarth and Falling in Reverse are playing there this month. I'm going to them. And Memphis May Fire is there in February.
The best song of the album imo and that's with all of the other FANTASTIC songs on it! Can't wait to see this 🔥
Trivium has always been good but god damn they are getting so perfectly tight. Props to Angela side note booking Canada maybe in Alberta thanks as old school fan. trivium, Arch Enemy and all that would be nice. Nothing is coming here lately.
So hard to pick a favorite for me. This is a close second for me is Sword
@@RyuujinLetum The first 5-6 songs on the album is about as great of a stretch of songs on an album as I've ever heard lol 🤘
They played it in Dallas during the Deadmen and Dragons tour. It was pretty cool
@@MinusLife yeah man. This album and every album with Alex are really their best work. Especially because they became incredibly close with him.
This is definitely a shining gem on the album! Huge dynamic range both instrumentally and vocally - Probably one of Matt's best vocal performances ever recorded, if not THE best - and the build, tension, and release is beyond satisfying.
The video is VERY "9th Gate", which is sick; terrific work, guys. This should be a fixture in your live shows forever - it's a terrific mid-set epic!
The High note that Matt hits at the end is fantastic, chills Everytime I hear it. And it just blends so so good with the outro of the song! It's wonderful
Hes pretty unleash with Ibaraki tho
i agree
Scuse me, i'm french and i don't understand what is "9th gate" ? thank you for your futur answer.
@@axel1627 A theme similar to the movie "The Ninth Gate" (la Neuvième Porte en français), based on a book hiding occult stuff. But the whole album is a reference to Robert Chambers "The King in Yellow", a classical horror collection of short novels that predated Lovecraft in the same style. Psychological/ cosmic horror, the more the protagonist investigates stuff, the more he digs into occult territory to the point of discovering something so horrific or incomprehensible to the point of turning him insane.
Trivium is heading towards ruling the metal world one album at a time
They really are stalwarts in metal. They've had some hiccups in their career, nothing terrible, just short of expectations. But last 3 albums have been so incredibly good. The metal they play is super approachable as well. They aren't quite arena headlining yet, and not sure if they'll get there. But they are just so solid. Crazy they've been around for 2 decades now.
I really love Trivium. One of my favorite metal bands
Idk, Motionless in White dropped a really dope album. I lost track of how many times I listen too it on repeat. Don't get me wrong I love Trivium and they definitely could, but they got some tough competition.
@@mariamines8817 MIW is also a fantastic band. But they are a different genre alltogether so I don't really see it as competition, and even if they were that's only a good thing for everyone involved. The more awesome bands, the better for us fans.
I agree. Give them 👏
Def one of the best songs you guys have written. It should be played in every show from now on. It is even better live then recorded which says a lot
@KingOfLegends23 I completely disagree with you on that. Shogun is def one of their top 5 top 10 songs for certain but shadow is up their too. Wait to you see it live and it might change your mind
@@ant24197 +1
@KingOfLegends23 You sure? Half of the Shogun album just feels like the same song in different forms with different lyrics.
@KingOfLegends23funny how you say that despite fascism appealing to simple-mindedness and cognitive inhibition
@KingOfLegends23 oh my god are you one of the people who say “antifa are the real fascists”
i’m literally an anarchist lmao. you cannot get two ideologies which are further apart
3:23 Wait... the kid... Was that Matt when he was a kid?
Fuck yeah man. This song is insane live, easily one of their best.
masterpiece after masterpiece. Trivium is the best metal band in the world idc
The end makes it feels like there could be a sequel. Loved it!
FINALLY
THE BEST SONG FROM THE ALBUM
I am a huge fan of early TriViuM, but their new material is incredibly well made....... superb work lads
trivium gets me emotional 99% of the time
THis is the SHogun of the last 4 albums.
PEAK Trivium songwriting.
Chills.
ive benn listening trivium for 4 years and this was the best song ever in my opinion
Can we all take a minute to appreciate how far Matt has came with his vocals?
The melody is just so cool and Matt singing low notes sounds flawless
Corey, Paolo and Bent did great works too (I'm saying this here although I have been listening the song many times before the release of the official vid)
great song, great MV
Trivium never fails to amaze their fans
Can someone please tell me why this masterpiece hasn’t got enough views? I’m all ears
Best song of ITCOTD
The picture of Matt as a kid 🤣
had a blast adding a dragon to this! thanks guys! 💙
I've been listening to Trivium for 10 years. Definitely this song seems to me his masterpiece.
Well I "recently" start listening to them since 2005 😂😂with ascendancy album then went back to listen their first album Ember to Inferno and see all their changes, still in love with the band and also love Inflames..
I would really love to see this made into a real movie. THE SHADOW OF THE ABATTOIR. 🕯️💀🕯️
This is my favorite off the new album. Melodic, heavy and builds to climax. The whole album is also damn strong from start to finish.
I didn't expect the video to be THIS GOOD. Every single shot is so damn beautiful. The library, the forest, the lake, my favourite shot when she's sitting under the apple tree. It's so beautiful, I don't know the technical terms to describe it because I'm not a filmmaker, the lighting and everything is just amazing, and then there's a dragon. I'm glad they went all out for the video, an epic song like this deserves an epic video and they absolutely killed it!
One of the few bands that are still trying to make NEW music.
Always amazing. Best band in the world 🤟🏻
Ever since first hearing Like Light to the Flies, back on headbangers ball 2 (2003-04?) I knew then that Trivium would have a huge career ahead.
5:29 The attention to details
One of the most beautiful video they've ever made
I glanced at it and was like “did they really go that far?” Haha
Totally missed this!! And while rewinding I noticed the “T” logo on the tree that I had missed before. Good catch!!
@@MTGguiltfeeder oh I totally missed that T logo too. Will have to go back hahah
@@MTGguiltfeeder There also the logo on the rock at 2:28 !
The director's work is amazing!
The verses are so haunting that the chorus literally punches you in the face! 🔥
Completely wasted and f***ef up and this song is stuck in my head. I have really started to listen to Trivium when Vengeance Falls came out, and although I missed the Shogun hype, I am certain that Trivium will headline Metal festivals one day once the big ones call it quits. Their songwriting is so creative and they are so awesome instrumentaly, it feels that they are criminaly underrated. Slowly starting to become one of my favorite bands.
Alright, drunk ranting over, keep doing what you do guys 🤘🏻
Simplemente hermoso el video y con la foto de Matt de niño en el libro me causo mucha gracia jajaja son los mejores sigan asi
Trivium's music videos for this album are on an entirely different level.
The amount of Easter eggs in this video is mind boggling.
Vengence falls T's everywhere,
Heafy's first achievement
In Waves cover art.
OMG Pics of young Matt in newspapers
Didn't know Trivium started making short movies. Very pleasant surprise, absolutely insane! Tye production level on that one is really good! Genuinely impressed!
I love how they used a childhood picture of Matt as the missing child
Just pure class, production value of the album and to match the videos.
Haven’t received enough accolades for just how good this is.
To the joke of media outlets and critics that gave it 4/5 when dishing out 5’s to others that just don’t meet this standard is ridiculous.
Man this song gave me shivers and tears. So emotional and true music. Love this band
This and Damocles are my favorite songs from the Court album. This is definitely my favorite video from this album though. Absolutely incredible! How do you guys always come up with such cool/badass video ideas?! lol
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Increible!!! 🔥🐉Trivium nunca decepciona, siempre son lo mejor 🤟🤟 saludos desde Colombia 🇨🇴
In my opinion, this is definitely one of the top 3 tracks of the album
The video is well done too
Honestly thought all the videos and singles were wrapped up after this long after album release, but this song definetly deserves one. Hopefully a new album soon, already ready for that
Absolutely... 100%.... Brilliant !! The first song that caught my attention when I listened to this Masterpiece Album. Hey everyone, if you haven't heard Trivium before, listen now and If you know Trivium, listen MORE ! 🎶🤘🎼🤘🎵
Trivium really outdone themselves on this track. Incredible song, musically, vocally and lyrically.
My favorite song off ITCOTD, I'm really glad that it received a music video. The production and story are flawless!
Absolute Masterpiece
Why am i getting cold chills and goosebumps listening to this ? WoW what a masterpiece
Amazing. This might be the only metal band I got into pre 2010 which I still LOVE. Never tire of this music... The calibre at which they write,, play and perform is top fekn tier and honestly, for as long as they've been doin this, I think they are STILL somehow underrated. Love it \m/
Trivium keeps on rocking. Very talented young lads...
This is just mastery. From when In Waves came out through to the next couple of albums, I thought Trivium would forever be an average band. I thought their best days were gone now. But since the last three albums they've returned to a level of extreme and melodic, progressive and mature quality found on Shogun. And the short film video was fantastic too!
Iirc it was around In Waves or just after that matt blew his vocal chords and had to get surgery. He has to cut back on screaming and relearn how to do it. The bounce back is legendary, and ITCOTD really brought back their og feel.
This band deserves a lot more recognition in Brazil!
The solo in this song is amazing
Absolutely Amazing! All Hail!
MASTERPIECE!! I wanna know what happens next!! Trivium are KINGS!! (Also loved the young Matt in the video! lol)
This is real music. Makes you imagine the unimaginable.
Masterpiece 🔥
I remember the first time I have ever heard this band. It was on yahioo music back in like 2006 or so and I thought it was some of the best music I have ever heard. Then they started touring and then I seen the shirts at Hot Topic. I seen this band when they were playing small clubs in and around Houston, TX with Children of Bodom. I saved what little money I had to go and that was the first time I crowed surfed.. ahhhhhh Those were the days.
I bet the girl felt that it was not worth looking for the lost page for Chapter II, because it turned out to be a bunch of gibberish. Also, I loved the Stranger Things reference at 3:24. "Strange things" and "Hawkins" below. ALSO, Matt just couldn''t help himself not to brag about saving the princess as a kid, huh. Legend.
when the vfx guy worked on stranger things... :D
i'm still convinced this song is about wartime PTSD, and how everything you used to know is blurred and lost. you still think there's a "beast" to slay, but there isn't when you come home.
Mi canción favorita de su último album es "from Dawn to decadence" pero está canción también es increíble
la mia tambien
es un rre temazo
apenas vengo escuchando el album, seguire tu recomedacion
Ok
FAK THIS SONG SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN SHOW.
10/10 VIDEO 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
I listen to this song constantly it's that good. Really impressed with the video as well
This is every bit as epic as Shogun. This song is a buffet of killer riffs, melodies and crazy drumming. Easily a career top 5.
This song sounds so much like classical music that it's so cool. It's heavy, deep and sweet.
I've been following Trivium from the very beginning and this is one of the most masterfully done songs and video that has been done in my opinion.
That little Matt's picture in the book, so sweet
Man I'm bawling
The progressive nature of this track man... Absolutely stunning
Que som lindo, mas tinha q aparecer vcs tb tocando... Parabéns para a melhor banda de rock do mundo.
WOW JUST WOWWWW
The Adumbration of the Slaughterhouse.
pretty sure this is straight up *Art* at this point.
Awesome !!! TRIVIUM 🤘🤘🤘
3:23 a young Matt Heafy that just finished Mario appears haha. Great song and a great video to accompany it, guys!
Cinematic masterpiece 😍 loved the song but now i love the video even more
Great piece of progressive metal composition. Matt's voice has gotten back that old angst, but with improved technique. Amazing stuff.
Love tha band ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
😍😍😍😍🥰🤩😳😲 amazing track
Paolo's bass playing is so sick
I did NOT expect a video to be coming for this!!! This was a song on the album that stood out to me the first time I listened to it!
Best Trivium song second greatest band of all time
Ofcourse the song is amazing but the video was aswell! Kind of expect a sequel to this? The ending left me wanting more
Mr Director, please, marry me ❤🤣 what a beautiful work!❤
This is just pure art in every aspect
I've slept in Trivium since Shogun and now I'm obsessed with everything.
Wtf did I just listen to, seriously, what the actual.. This is an amazing and brilliant masterpiece. I feel honored and blessed to have heard this. 🙏good lord I needed this
Very Cool 👍
Don't know how much that cost, but it was worth every penny!
Normally I don`t like metal music videos (or music videos in general) but this... I found it subtle, elegant and evocative! Great atmosphere and song, amazing album!
Love you, Anya. Thank you for everything you do.
- Armando
an absolute masterpiece for a song that is a masterpiece too!!!
so nice
Glad to see still around
It's been a long time since i started to enjoy trivium's videos, but these recent ones have taken it to a new level of amazigness. Contratulations for the good work!
