Okay, if someone is using the Connect object to bake instead of using Nitrobake, it'll result in problems when importing the alembic file into MD, so just make sure to turn off the 'weld' option in C4D's connect object before baking. That'll fix it! Hope it saves someone the headache.
When I do this, everything works great, except for the arms on my character. In Marvelous, the arms of my character are greyed out and clothes do not bind to them. Any ideas why this could happen?
@@MrSmooveJazz88 Have you tried exporting your character (and importing in MD) as FBX just to see if that fixes it? So we know if the problem is in the character or somewhere else.
Very very good teacher you are. I've learned a lot of knowledge about C4D from you. Helped me out in my work very much. You explain everything you are doing on screen, so we dont end up doing everything step by step but not knowing what we were doing. But it's been 5 months since your last tutorial. Have you stopped doing your tutorials ? I hope we can see more of your videos in the future
From the peanut gallery, here's a Marvelous Designer / C4D tutorial idea. Using both for low poly game art. Particularly, retopology and transferring normal maps from hi to low poly, maybe even the C4D method to mimic the "transfer attributes" in maya. Thanks for your amazing tutorials, I'll shut up now.
@ 12:03, When you put your character in a Connect object you have to UNCHECK WELD or you won't see your full animation when you import the alembic file in Marvelous Designer.
This helped to fill loads of gaps that were left from other tutorials, particularly the quadrangulate. But I'm still stuck not being able to use alembic when there are multiple different pieces, in MD. Due to them being combined into one object with no separate materials. I'm instead having to use OBJ with an MDD animation. Is there another workaround using alembic?
make sure that if you put the mesh into a Connect object that you turn off "weld" in the connect object and put the whole mesh under a Null :) thanks JustinLeduc for the tip!
Just wanted to say thank you! This and tons of other videos were essential to my training, however only a select few channels stand out and you have been one of my top professors! I have a long way to go, Thank you for sharing your skills with the world! If you get a chance please check what your inspiration help build.
Great tut! But I was looking for how to make the UV and texturing (maybe retopology of the animation) the cloth after the simulation in MD... For me when I bring the mesh from MD to C4D the mesh is a total caos and I am unable to open the UV.... please help me cause Idk if I have to do a retopology of the animation or what...
How can I add T-pose at the beginning if I already have a million animation keys, is there a quick way like putting the character in T-pose and making a smooth transition from T-pose to animation so I don't have to move all the keys manually?
Yes. It's unusable for character animation. It's good for flags or simple cloth simulations like curtains but it can hardly handle self collisions. X-Particles cloth simulations are better but not nearly as specialized and flawless as Marvelous Designer.
Give Marvelous Designer a try Rex Media Pro. It‘s such a powerful software for fashion designer. It‘s even used in universities for fashion design. You can‘t use Cinema or 3DSMax for everything. Those 3D programs are usually used for modelling. Remember texturing or sculpting...there are softwares that are better than Cinema for that kind of work (f.e. Substance Designer)
Thank you very much, supercool tutorial. For me though during the simulation, there is no animation on the imported model. It animates only without the garment. Can you help solve this issue? I'm on this for 2 days and I would love to solve this problem! :) thanks a lot
Hey EJ, In your latest tutorials (Injecting character...using deformers), in the mushroom one, how did you modeled the hat?. The part where the white spheres connect to the hat, the red part has a convex shape equal to the spheres. That's not just a boolean right?. And by the way, the tutorials are super cool as usual. Thank you so much.
I have an object with his hands and arms in different directions, how can I do so that my object gets the position of the character that appears at the beginning of the video.? Thank you
Hey guys, Thank you for a great tut! I have a question to add to this flow. - If exporting more complex garments from MD/CLO3D and later on each textured differently. Maybe you have advice? I am trying to export OJB from MD and use UV Editing in Cinema (which looks like not working with placing patterns into the frame). This is where I am stuck now. And later thinking of making Pose Morph with Alembic and UV flats.
When I bring import my alembic file into C4D the animation is inverted. Is there a way to fix this? I already tried changing the size from 1 to -1, in hopes that it a mirror would fix it but that didn't work properly.
hello and thank you for a tut! i have finally finished my animation, but it turns out that my garment simulation movement end wouldn't match the stat so it's impossible to make a seamless looping walk cycle :( is there a way to make it right?
everything worked until I hit record. The clothes explodes off the body then becomes a scarf or falls off completely. When I run the simulation it looks fine. Once the animation starts (A Simple walk cycle) all hell breaks loose. ?? Any idea what causes this?
Does anyone know how I can correct this, because as much as I choose, I get the message again. "Access denied to temporary folder path. Please select another folder to save the temporary files. A temporary folder is required for the program to work normally"
This is a terrifying question considering my material was sculpted and all of the displacement was dependent on the original sculpt material. I'm not up to that part though. I still can't get any animation working in Marvelous Designer by exporting alembic or fbx with NitroBake or putting the model in a connect object.
You can get great results using any 3D application like Maya or Blender! It's all about your preference and what type of work you like doing. C4D is mainly used in Mograph

great tutorial. do you have any tutorials on c4d blendshapes?
Hey, I wanted to know if a person doesn't know character design but is interested in cloth simulation. So how should they move forward with it?
So, is cinema 4d's cloth system so bad for simulating character cloth??? I hardly see tutorials on that.
Yes. It's unusable for character animation. It's good for flags or simple cloth simulations like curtains but it can hardly handle self collisions. X-Particles cloth simulations are better but not nearly as specialized and flawless as Marvelous Designer.
Its possible to use cinemas cloth system for simulating character cloth, but its a pain in the ass. Its really slow, and hard to control.
What Dean said...Cloth in C4D hasn't been updated in AAAAGES
