ORDERED THE TOOL FROM AMAZON AND IT CAME TODAY. NOW I KNOW HOW TO USE IT AFTER SEEING YOUR VIDEO. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
I used a adjustable width pin wrench from Amazon for my GM fan clutch. The tool described in this video arrived after the fact. If I do use the wrench in this video I would recommend loosening two adjacent pulley bolt inserting this Wrench in the empty holes a d then hand tighten the bolts over the wrench. That should provide the tension to hold pulley. Also recommend keep serpentine belt installed until fan clutch is loose to provide additional tension and keep pulley from slipping.
It's works I bought the tool you said W80498 from Amazon for 18 bucks I to o'Reilly but they don't carry it but I look on the internet got it today had the water pump replaced cause didn't know about the tool until afterwards but need it to replace the fan clutch thanks
Thank you for mentioning the 90 needle nose. Awesome job
GENIUS FIRST METHOD I CAN BUILD and KNOW IT WILL WORK. THANKS BUDDY!!!
I use a 12”or bigger C clamp 🗜 to grab balancer
Works everytime 😎
Thank You! this information was a big help, and i was able to create a tool to do the job of removing the fan clutch. I am working on a 2005 G.M.C. 4500 series, with a 6.6 Duamax Diesel engine. you did pick up on the concept of what i needed! O.T.C. #4754 is a spanner tool designed to do the job plus a bunch of other jobs, but $90.00 some odd dallars was more than i wanted to invest and not need this tool; that offen! I made mine, just as you did; using a large set of snap-ring pliers with a nintey degree angle with a quarter inch to stick in the hole on the pully. This is not like the pick-up truck you are working on, the shank for the wrench needed to twist off the clucth fan is 40-milimeters in wrench size and no room to work. I had to remove the top of the radiator schroud, move the air- condioning tubes way out of the way, remove the air cleaner complete, the right inner fenders shield to just be able enven reach over to access this mess! this allowed for me to insert my ninety degree angle snap-ring pliers; which i could get into one out four holes that are not easy to see; even with a mirrior, there are four holes on that hub not threaded, but i could only use one arm of the snap ring pliers, because of not being able to clear the nut to remove the pully for the clutch fan! I was informed that at some dealers they rase the whole cab up to access this stuff! I builld race cars that i race when i can, and when i see an engineering mess! like this; i contact some of the design engineers and in some cases, have embarraced the stupid designing these people are being paid to produce this crap! anyway thanks!
Virian Bouze no problem. Glad this video helped out. Yea the tool I managed to make works like a champ
Thanks alot bud, that tip will work for me, just what I was looking for
finally someone I can learn from. Great video
Genius good job thanks ✌
Thank you so much for showing everyone that tool. Instead of buying one I just measured how far apart my pulley bolts are & made one using 1.5" steel flat bar & used a 1.5" hole saw to cut the half moon part out.
Chris Porter even better. Always cooler making your own tools
Thank you
Thx man. Just got it done after watching your video
Chris Kessler sweeeeeet
Thanks buddy
Cut a piece of flat bar. Kit did not have the 57mm wrench to hold the four bolts but did have the 36mm to fit the nut. 93 Crown Vic.
You're right i used that holy tool and it's sturdy and a LOT BETTER different ways to do it though :)
uKnow hey thanks for watching. Don’t forget to subscribe and hit the notification bell to receive updates on new videos
Can use that for the dodges?
Richard Cowtails I believe dodge uses a different one what yr and model is it ?
thank you this helps although i am working on 05 4500 GMC duramax, no bolts on the hub, but there is four holes where the bolts would have been, so i have to make a tool,
Virian Bouze they sell that tool. It's just like mine but rather than having the wholes it has pins. If you do make a tool make a video
My envoy gmc I changed my fan clutch lot of work
A chain wrench and a large adjustable wrench saved my ass on a Dodge Ram.
Which way did you turn the nut?
Richard Frank counter clock wise. But some under vehicles go clock wise
my dumb ass never used the holder tool thinking it was for another fan size I always used a pry bar in between the bolts to hold it. I like ur tool that u changed. I want to buy the lisle pneumatic fan clutch wrench set that uses a impact hammer.
Yea I've been using mines for almost every vehicle with a fan clutch. One of my best tools that I have
Lisle (LIS43300)
which is better hayden clutch or motorcraft
Mo Mon I would stick to motorcraft
Interesting, might not work for GM vehicles

Just hit that wrench hard and quick and you won't need any tool to hold the pulley
Fords better idea!!!🤔
My fan clutch is shaking
What was wrong with 4 bolts like the old days. One reason I no longer drive Ford or Chevy's. These screw-on fans are so stupid, I would have fired everyone involved in designing this nightmare!! If your going to change something, make it better. Common sense seems to be lost to these designer's now days,,,,,
dan yeoman totally agree. Every auto maker is trying to make it different and more difficult. I have around 5 tools to remove fan clutches
I think one of the easiest ways to remove the fan clutch is to use the air chisel with a pointer tip and catch the edge of the nut, making sure you are going the right way with the vibrations at a slow rate. leave the belts on until the fan nut starts to turn. Yes it leaves a small divot, but that's no big deal. The tool guys won't like that solution, but who wants to buy all the different size ones you need today.
dan yeoman I've used that method once. Worked like a charm
+dan yeoman - You are 100% correct !!! That FAN should have NEVER been on there. It makes the Engine work even harder for something soooooo simple :((((. The Designers are trying to CUT corners, but their stupidities took out the best of them :////
Ford converters on their automatics, I think still have studs on them. Why not change something that really needs to be changed. Get rid if the studs!!! Front wheel drive cars at least got rid of these stupid screw-on fans. But of coarse now some use the timing belt to turn the water pump which I think is crazy. They should use a fan belt instead.
Stop so much talk
