I think Yamaha make some of the best guitars, criminially underrated by those who are under the spell of Gibson/Fender. Incidentally, the RGX series were on the market until the late 1980s, so this model is somewhere from about 1987 to early 1990s. The 312 was part of the first RGX series! Great guitar. Thanks for the video.

My “Pablo” was a shiny black Kramer with a very slightly elongated super-strat style body. I haven’t seen the body shape in a looong time but it was a beautiful, simple guitar with a single double-coil pickup. It wasn’t my first guitar - my first guitar was, well, out of respect for it since it *was* my first, I’ll just keep silent, but oh how my fingers bled... - but it was my first decent guitar that enabled me to actually start learning without being limited by horrible intonation, frets hanging off the neck waiting to slice my fingers, noisy electronics etc. Oops. I said I wasn’t going to talk about that one didn’t I?
Anyhow great vid. I have still have a red Yamaha RGX from that same era. Not nearly as spiffy as this one but it still gets action from time to time. Rock on 🤘🏼

Very happy for you rob. I just got a guitar that a buddy of mine gave me to play. Had some work done to get her to play again. The guitar is a 1983 ibanez destroyer x series that had triple humbuckers but is missing the bridge pickup. Had to get a new nut installed and had the action set up. Plays great for a 30 year old guitar thats been beat withinan inch of its life!!

My first guitar ever was the RGX112. Finding that guitar has become my quest, it is my white wale and I want it back. It was so sentimental to me and it is honestly a solid good playing guitar. That was the guitar that shaped me into the guitar player i am today. Never get rid of that guitar bro, you don't want to end up like me with a lifetime of regret hahaha

Bought an RGX 310 in black new in 87. So loved that guitar, trem was a little finicky and sold it to a neighbor in 91 to buy an RGX 612 with a maple neck. That line of guitars never got due respect. Phenomenal playing machines. Still on the look out for a 1220 and finding that 310 again!

My 1st guitar (3 years ago) was a Yamaha RGZ 321-P, HSH ,from a pawn shop. I started playing (@ 42 yrs old) to help with arthritis. I'll never be a shredder, but that guitar has the most comfortable neck I've ever seen. She's not playable right now, needs electronic work, and new saddles. I also have a Pacifica, doesn't feel as good, but plays well.

What a fun video! My first drum kit wasn't as nice though.. I lived in Memphis, Tennessee, USA at the time and my parents went to Strings N' Things. And they got me the cheapest full size five piece drumkit they had for Christmas. I loved that kit even though it was super cheap and all the hardware broke. It was a "Sunlite" brand kit. They tried to get into the pro market and failed. My kit was their version of like a CB700 kit. I replaced it with a shiny new beautiful Mapex pro M series kit. I bet you'll have lots of fun with that guitar.

ive been following this ,its weird because i rediscovered my 612 Yamaha in 2017 and did it right up.they have amazing necks and i was going to buy one of the new L/H jems but pulled the 612 out and realized it was a much better made guitar.i dont know if chappers id aware that Yamaha tawain had a very skilled team of makers in the mid 80s.on mine the only bitof hardware id never change is the trem and nut .there both excellent designs [especially for intonation ]takes a while to set up but once u know how wicked.i also put a satch trak in the neck and a lukather humbucker dimarzio in the rear.i left the middle pup as it sounds great[all the oringinal pups are good btw]yamaha should really look at bringing this model back at the same quality.the necks are amazing and the frets are like titanium grade steel enjoyed this a lot thanx heres a link to mine,at this stage i had lollars in the neck and middle but swapped them out ua-cam.com/video/pzaXoCcTLm4/v-deo.html ...there is a forum to for rgx users.not many of us btw

About 3 years ago, I bought a used Yamaha RGX620DX. (Mint shape, no scratches, $360 CDN) The most interesting thing about this guitar are the round tuning pegs and the lever that is used to release the locking nut. It is a game changer that i am really surprised was never licensed to other companies like Floyd Rose etc. No tools required to unlock the nut, just the twist of a lever. Makes harder retunes a breeze, but i only ever have to tune this maybe once a week. yeah.....once a week. (depending on string age). If I changed the pickups you wouldn't pry it from my cold, dead hands.
My only complaint is the finish. It could be better, but that has zero effect on what's important.

I got to say I think you found a new body design to use for Chapman Guitars. That exact body shape with your neck and pups. That would be killer! I like the rounded edges more than the modern sharpe edge designs of today. Love that guitar and looks like a shredder for sure.

My 1st customized guitar purrs like a spitfire,,, now. It's an older Austin (St Louis music) SG set neck copy, that installed Seymour, Gibson and Dimarzio's humbuckers in. (There was a Vai, a super distortion, and a dirty finger laying around.) It has coil splits on all 3 ( just because. 3 pickups are no better than 2.) Once it was tuned, and functioning, and everybody had their fun noodling, I decided to mount a bigsby, and since the spring was way too heavy, I replaced it with a spring from a 1969 Plymouth Cuda's rear brake drum. After a few days of tuning frustrations, it sat for a year, until this week when I decided to do a set up to see if the issue could be resolved. After new strings, and a truss rod check, I started to go to play with the Wilkinson roller bridge, and I realized it was reinstalled backwards (oops.) So now I have it is among the living, with my prophecy plus gx, my 1991 Les Paul studio, my Mexican Squire, my Lyle A740, and and my Mosrite venture (chock full of Hallmark, and Eastwood parts.) Just waiting for the machine shop to make a aluminum nut for it. It's a shame I can't play guitar. Since I didn't win any of your star wars, hair tie, guitar pick give away items. (Please tell me what car parts you need to customize your guitar, and maybe you'll win them Rob. I have some nice Hemi Cuda emblems. P.S. Bruce Dickenson was almost right, punk rockers generally can't play their instruments. ua-cam.com/video/s8EfFpGwB4Q/v-deo.html

Dann I haven't watched chapters in or only a year. Since around the time his kid was born. N now he looks so old. Grey beard. His hairs both thinning and receding. Time flies

I just bought an RGX612-j and I'm doing stuff to it so I really think this is a cool video RN. I got a Floyd Rose II, A JB and A SSL-3. Not sure if I'll leave that middle pup out or throw in another SSL-3 in there. I want individual switches for the pickups and maybe one for the coil split on the JB. Gonna get mad hatter wiring so I can experiment with the pot values.

I like a little relief, it allows the low end to escape. After a curry, indeed

Jeez that fretboard looks awesome! I wonder if it's the woods density or how it stands out next to a yellow body.? I'm betting that boards like that are very few and far between on say, a modern indo/Korean brand..........

That beard is wild, brother! You should let it grow out even more, and rock it with a bald head. VERY METAL
