Just looked it up, can't find one for under $500+ in USA.
@@landersm223 yup i been searching i still want the 120watt head for more girth, but they been up in price for a while
@@landersm223
That's what I paid for mine. Worth it though.
@How To Shoot Straight HTSS I honestly wouldn't mind the 6505+ 120W, I love tube amps and that amp has a gnarly sound anyways but then again, I'm a collector 😁
@@landersm223 *_Really? Quite a few in the Detroit area around the $300 range. I’m confident if I really wanted one, I could get one for $250._*
And just like that…this amp goes to $700…
Yeeaahhh...
It seems like every time these guys do a video on something like this price definitely jumps, your correct
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah never seen one of these as cheap as he got it unless it's busted busted up and not working.
Yeahh there’s literally 1 on ebay for $650 and it’s an older model in rough shape
It's almost criminal how much info and of his own time Glenn is giving out for free, I really feel like I'm robbing him blind.
Thank you man
I mean, while he is generous with his knowledge, that's still what makes us come back, giving him views. On the other hand, he swears a fuckload so idk about youtube revenue lol
Dude, right!? Fuckin grateful for the age of the internet. Its not all bad out here!
Glenn is a star preacher in the Great Church of High Gain, and he's gathered a pretty good congregation.
Hahaha for free.
He is helping make metal production better, which I think is a win for everyone.
Had the 6505+ half stack. I have to say, it was the best amp I ever had. Broke my heart when I had to sell it.
Glenn you are actually getting pretty kick ass at guitar these days 🤘 keep on rockin man!
Definitely sounding great these days. Keep up the great work man! And thanks again for the heads up on this gem. Might need to snag one as a companion for my Peavey Bandit Redstripe.
@@brandonmoore7797 Redstripe is killer. Shane from in the blues channel put a Texas heat speaker in there & wow!
@@stephenhanlin2388 He definitely played a role in me getting it, but to be honest, it was really a work buddy of mine who happened to work at Peavey in the 2000's who gave me the heads up. My early 90's Peavey Predator is a Made in USA sleeper, too. Lots of their gear from the 90's and early 2000's was crazy value and way underrated.
Wow Glenn’s playing has super improved. This amp sounds incredible. Back in 1998 I snagged a perfect used Marshall 4100 dual reverb for under $500.
Loved it, great vid man. The pace, screenshots and sound effects mixed with you’re excited demeanor made it really cool. That and I couldn’t agree more 🤘🏻
Your videos are awesome! Thx for your efforts!!!
Didn‘t expect it to go this way. This combo was my first real amp and a great one, too! Awesome recommendation
That sounds NICE! Great find Glenn! Mark Tremonti's MT-100 is going to be around 1800 I'm pretty pumped reminds me of when I bought my triple rec for that much back in 2007.
This makes me feel a lot better about wanting to buy a 6505 over the 5150 simply because of the price difference. I knew the two amps were similar but I didn't realize the circuitry was basically identical. There's almost no distinction I'm the sound, and the sound is ultimately why I wanted the amps to begin with
honestly, the only tonal difference I can hear between the combo and the block letter is maybe a little Low mid hump... something you can correct on an EQ if you need to... the soldano did have a more grindy articulate tone over all.. but not enough to justify the price tag..
And it well sound completely different with different tubes, speakers, pickups, cables and rooms.
If you buy either a 5150 or 6505 nowadays, it's made in China.
@Frederic Petitpas where it comes from doesn't matter as long as the product does its job
@@x4thmessiahx I guess but they might not have the same parts like the old ones etc. Your call, I wanted a 5150 but went with ENGL $ ;(
Thanks Glenn, you're very generous person. I cant wait to try out these new IR's. Awesome vid and killer comparisons with the Soldano and Peavey! Really good content.
Thank you for the great guitar work and for the amazing information you give us. I'm 64 and have been watching you for about a year. Love the sounds!!
Yes!!! I've been saying this for years!! It's also extremely easy to mod into a head and sounds incredible through a 4x12. Peavey this is the amp you need to build to go against the EVH 50 watt. Also James Brown deserves a very special space in the rock and roll hall of fame. His designs revolutionized metal music. Awesome video Glenn!
Well, I wanted to buy this amp for cheap this year, after hearing only good things about them... Now, I can just lay back and watch the prices skyrocket, after this video. Thanks Glenn xD
You’re welcome!
@@SpectreSoundStudios BTW, still love the tones. Great work as always 😉
Just buy three right away and re-sell two of them for twice the price;)
@@mrcoatsworth429 I'm too poor to afford one xD I've spent all my money on vintage tubes, high end pickups and Gibson stock and merch ;-)
Glad you included a direct example! I'm over the whole massive speaker/volume experience. Planning to move later this year and getting rid of bulky speakers/amps will be part of that process. I've got a keyboard amp I can barely lift myself that I have not even turned on in years...
Sounded reaaaally good, great job man! Another great amp that you can find at this price point used is the Marshall TSL 60w combo. As the 6505+, plugged into a great cab sounds absolutely great.
And I have to confirm that also those v30 IRs sound amazing, they are into my TorpedoX since the day you released them and I can't stop using 'em!
I picked mine up 5 years ago for $300 US. Everything he's saying about the amp is true. Other Peavey amps that will get you in the neighborhood at a decent price are the Ultra series
Valveking 100 is also around that price point.
Picked up mine used with a custom box with 2 greenbacks for 200 bucks.
Had to replace the tubes (because of noise and feedback not to change the tone haha) but since then it's been a trusty punk guit go shredshred machine.
@@_Graves get yourself an AMT P2 and plug it directly into the return of the VK.
You can thank me later ;)
@@DroctorKloebner I‘m also using one of those Chinese all in one pedals (HoTone Ampero) and it’s surprisingly good.
Especially the tubescreamers/ods come really close to the analog counterpart.
So I got that point already - although through the input because the fx loop on my unit seems to not be working (or it’s just dogshit)
I have one (Peavey 6505+) 1 x 12 combo. I removed the chassis and built a nice case for it using some hardwood and the original 1 x 12 handle. This is definitely a criminally underrated amp for leads and metal rhythms. The warm low mids are hard to find in heavily saturated tube amps.
hell yeah Glen your guitar playing has really improved since taking lessons, love to see people getting better at the stuff they're passionate for!
Wow! Great sound. If I had known this months ago, I would have looked for this amp. I bought a Blackstar HT Club 40 and I'm happy with it. I did get it for a decent price due to my hometown music shop closing. Thank you for keep on looking out for great deals and prices for us players! And also your playing keep getting better! \m/
Kinda blown away by the 6505. Incredible.
Definitely need more budget gear tips like this, I could justify a killer gear collection if the cost was more like this.
I would reccomend Monoprice. They have a great 50 watt 2 channel head for about 350. The cabs are great as well. I do think they are the Chinese V30`s. They also make some quality "Budget friendly" pedals as well. I would reccomend everything they sell. It will blow you away if you look into their sight. The powerstrips (Which everyone needs, is a good place to start. I think you will be very happy. The people I have turned on to them kiss my ass.
Don't forget you can also pick up something like a joyo vivo which sounds almost identical in a mix for like $150
This was my main gig aml for many years! Amazing for heavy tones. 1 x12 is more than enough for my stage volume once you consider a good monitor mix or IEM.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I've had an old Randall combo amp that has a blown out speaker but when I upgraded to a stack I just let it sit in storage. I had no idea until this video that I could have hooked it up to my 4x12 cab. It's a great amp for metal and now I have that tone back but even better with my improved setup!
I swear I woke up this morning looking into different amps for when I'm playing with or for my friends then Glenn drops this. Thanks a ton dude!
This is a great suggestion as I've always wondered if the 6505 was just Peavy continuing the same amp with a new name! I am curious your thoughts on a different option, the Synergy amp system. You could pick up the Syn1 and a single module new for $800 (might I recommend the SLO model in this particular case). Yes this would still need to be amplified for live work, but if you're looking for apartment recording / playing you'd be all set! Also you can add new amps to your "collection" for $400 a module, which is a pretty affordable route for getting options like a Mark II C+ / Bogner / Friedman into your hands.
This reminds me a lot of the Laney Pro-Tube AOR 30 Combo I picked up for £100, this thing also had an easily bypassed speaker, and its previous owner decided to chop the whole thing in half and turn it into a dedicated head. Now one of my fave amps for high gain Fuzz/Doom.
I adore my laneys!
Did you change your of output valves or keep 6V6?
@TheTiredHorizon i passes on one last year for 100 that probably need new tubes only. Im so mad about that 😆
@TheTiredHorizon hmm maybe u can find a cheap valvestate ahd reflow the solder
I turned a Valvestate combo into a head and even managed to sell the shitty speaker for $28.
I LOVE your latest IR of the V30 Glenn. Thank you so much! I've loaded it into an old Digitech GSP1101 and it sounds absolutely killer
Lucretia! Nice playing Glenn! You're amazing man, love your vids as always :)
I remember watching all of the rig run-downs years ago, and so many metal bands were using a guitar, a Maxon OD808, and a Peavey 5150 amp. Peavey has always been one of the best amps around.
Actually, I've run a head made of this combo for several years before I went to digital and I loved it. It was so much more portable than the fullsize 6505
The other guitarist in my old band did this exact thing with that amp, and it sounded great. Good advice as always
You're guitar playing skills have greatly improved. Well done man. I'm very impressed. Keep up the great work.
BTW, glad I got mine before this video posted, cuz now theyre all gonna be bought up immediately and price will soar a bit from some sellers, lol. Not your fault, youre just trying to inform and help, and youre doing great at it as usual Glenn.
Glen, great video! Peavey Kvlt is real, don’t let all our secrets out! Mostly just impressed by how much your guitar skills are progressing though. Love to see it!
Hey Glenn, thanks for letting us know about this hidden jem. Thanks man!
THESE are the reviews I love! Thanks, Glenn.
Picked mine up for £220 about 3 years ago. There a loads of them for sale in the UK sub £300. Great amp.
Like the sound of that 6505+ 60W as much as the SLO100.
Always possible to build a cabinet for it and turn it into a head to make it take less space if it primarely is used with a 2x12, 4x12 and even a full stack.
From an earlier video of yours comparing the "older" vintage 30's to the newest ones I had to go check my blackstar ht club black and blue edition 40 watt packed with the tad6l6 tubes!!! Just to see what vintage 30 I had. The older crappy one, or the newer awesome one and I was delighted to see the newer version was installed👍 made my day🙂 thanks for the informative videos my friend!!!
Sounds incredible!! Love the sizzle and attack on it. Really mean and in your face killer tone.
the 112 6505 combo initially ssues with overheating and the ribbon cables which is why most people overlooked these. the amount of these that needed repair within a year of production was a sizable portion. now they've either been fixed or survived thus far so they're probably fine.
Wow. I somehow never heard of that issue. I’ve had mine for about 6 years now. Thankfully no problems. Interesting though I’ll definitely do some forum browsing about it tonight. I typically use mine by jumping the effects loop. Sounds better to me. Surprised Glenn didn’t mention doing that in the video.
That moment when you have to buy new tubes because one broke, not because you think it impacts tone
Projected Response From Glenn: _"Then replace them with the same stock tubes and not different ones!!"_ LOL
tubes dont "break" unless you smash them with something
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 In all fairness, tubes can go bad. One of the symptoms of your tubes going bad is your amp making all kinds of weird noises, sudden volume drops, unusual loud humming. If you don't replace your tubes when they start going out, you'll damage the rest of your amp.
My understanding is that tubes can be fragile and if you drop your amp, or put your amp behind the rear axel of your trailer where it vibrates and bounces the most, you can damage the tubes in your amp, thus satisfying the OP's statement about "breaking tubes".

I have a 6505 with a bias mod and love it. And DAMN! Easily your best playing yet! Keep up the good work!
This was my first non-garbage amp and it served me well for YEARS. Cant recommend it enough, especially if you plan on upgrading the speaker. Its not as loud as a 120w head, but I never needed extra head room at any of the shows I played. Great recommendation, Glenn.
Run it through a 4x12 and I bet it's almost the same volume
Mindyou the difference between 60w and 120w is not a lot. Remember the relationship between watts is logarithmic, not linear. 120w is NOT twice as loud. Its about 3 decibals louder. Basically not a lot. Essentially to get a full 10DB (twice as loud) , you add a zero. So to get twice as loud as 100 watts, you need 1000 watts. And to get twice as loud as 60 watts, you need 600 watts.
Through a 4x12 it gets PLENTY loud. Used to gig and practice with it for years. Never had any volume issues. In fact sound guys would always tell me to turn it down lol. Hell of an amp!
@@shayneoneill1506 3 db is a doubling of volume.
GLEEEEEN!! I would love to see you take on the world of Impulse Responses and FRFR speakers. I've been trying to get away from tube amps for some time and having dove into the amp sim and FRFR world, amp sims sound great in studio monitors but every FRFR solution for live audio in a practice environment I have tried has a strange phasing quality that is distracting with high gain amp sims and hard adjust to. My weapon of choice is a Mission Engineering Gemini 2 so I'm not sure build quality is the problem.
I'm interested in that, too. I want to find something more like my BX-8 monitors because my Headrush FRFR has a strange mid hump I don't like
I'm guessing FR is Full Range, but what does the repetition signify?

Had one of these before I switched to my Kemper. Sounds better and tighter than a "big" 6505+ and gives you almost all the features of the bigger head. Dismanteld the head from the speaker so it would be easier to move around. Just loved that one :) Hope to get my hands on one again ! Great tip and great video as always
Too bad the price is going to go up or the amps will get harder to find because of this video but still kudos to SpectreSoundStudios for trying to help
They didn’t go up when Eddie died,so it’s highly unlikely this video will change anything lmao
James Brown is the man. Didn't just do the 5150 but also the Peavey Butcher and the VTM. Before he started working on the EVH amps he was making a line of pedals under the Amptweaker brand. They are killer pedals! He sold the Amptweaker company before going to work at Fender/EVH, but it's still around under different ownership. They're continuing to produce James' pedal designs with different cosmetics.
I thought James only sang (derp)!
Cool stuff Glenn
The Marshall Valvestate combo also allows you to connect a different speaker in the same way.
Yo your guitaring is improving so much! Sounds great!

@@ChrisRash Only complaint I have is the rack-level only FX Loop. Tone is absolutely monstrous.
I've been playing my 6505+ head form the early to mid 2010s for the past 10 years or so and still love this thing as a metal machine. Not the most versatile thing but you don't buy these things for versatility. Run it through a mesa 2x12 cab from same time frame (celstions) and it's a beast. And God damn Glenn your chops are getting incredible keep up the good work brother.
Hey Glen, not sure if you'll read this or not, but I got the peavey 6505 combo as well and I really need to change the speaker out. Since I don't want to get a cab extension, which speaker would you recommend to replace the 1x12 stock speaker?
This video was a big help. Just got a combo and was going to do the head conversion...but...being able to use it both as a head or as a combo is kind of nice. I don't always want to load the cab up. Thanks for your work Glenn, you've saved me a TON of money.
I use my Peavey XXX with KT77 Tubes for some years, I love this beast. With the Vintage 30 speakers this monster is unstoppable and has a great sound. I think the XXX is a bit underrated, don't know why. But its 120w pure tube power :D
I've had my Triple XXX for nearly 20 years, and have yet to find an amp that I liked better. Great amplifier!
The xxx is bad ass ! Smokes these amp for sure !

Great video! I think the 6505 sounded the best. The 5150 has tremendous drive and punch but seems kind of nasal. The Soldano is amazing, but sounds sterile next to the other two. My votes. Thanks for the video. P.S. I bought a Harley Benton Les Paul kit and 2 x 12 cab at your recommendation and I'm really happy.
Ah, the 6505+...
Amazing sounding, dual channel, and one of the most unreliable and hard to service amps made by Peavey.
Enjoy your visit to a local amp tech in a year time, and pay 150$ to fix a burnt trace.
I love them, always one in need of service.
Thanks man I was about to buy one
Another great video! I’d be interested to see your review of the ART Pro MPA II. I know you’ve talked a lot about the importance of the mic, and the preamp has impedance and plate voltage controls to receive the mic!
Hey Glenn, Love your videos, and this one is no exception. I do have a question about this amp..... so the 6505 undeniably sounds amazing, you've shown that very well with this video, however I do recall having read or seen reviews on this amp mentioning an issue with it's durability. Now I imagine this would only pertain to live use due to the nature of the beast that is gigging, but do you think this should even be a factor to keep in consideration if seeking one out for exclusive studio use? I personally think not so much, which would make for a great studio solution, but I'd also like your opinion on the matter.
Sounds awesome. Also loved the guitar used in the mix.
Aw yeah!!! Love my 6505+112 combo!!!
I got mine used from our local GC a couple of years ago for $460 but it came upgraded with a V30 from one of the crappy sounding years so I just use it as a head into my Marshall FrankenStack (7 different types of speakers all miked/dual miked separetely). A good friend of mine got a new 6505+ 120 watt head just over a year ago and after a shoot out, they proved they're the same circuits. I get the exact same tone as the bigger brother amps and after recently having an EVH Black Stealth head here, I can say it's still the same circuit and same tone as my 6505+ combo.
I'm glad I got mine before you recommended them. You always cause a run on rare gems after you put up a review like this. Then the used prices go up due to the extra demand. This is a great little amp with big amp features. Like the new 6505+ 120 watt head doesn't have the spring reverb tank my combo has!
Great, more GAS! Glenn, thanks for all the work you do and I have to say - nice chops on the GoT! Those extra hours noodling in front of the tv are making HUGE gains
Dude, you're shredding. Great playing.
Great review/advice and great playing Glenn
Guess this brings up a couple of questions.
1. Would upgrading the speaker in the 6505+ 1x12, to say the new Vintage 30', work as well as plugging into a good cab or the two-notes like you did?
2. Does this mean some of the historical Fails could become passes/OK with a speaker/cabinet upgrade?
Thanks for this video. I'm searching through all you videos to find out which amp to start with as a beginner. Finally found it. Thanks. Researching like crazy right now. Just going to be home recording. no Gigs or anything. I'm just a beginner to the Guitar sceen. Been wanting to play for years.
Good luck, man!
I have mine because of your advice, Glen! Thanxs!!!
GLLENNNNNNNNNNNN!!!! Have you tried popping any of the speakers in to the combo then miking it? Like the Hesu Demon or the Green/Creambacks? Great vid, hidden gem for sure!
Great video, Glenn! Awesome tip on the speakers, I've got an old 6505 212 that might be getting an upgrade now. Question: How do you manage the hiss on these for recording? 6505s are so f-ing noisey. I've always had issues recording mine, but your video sounds great.
Change your tubes...I used to have the same issue and it disappeared after that..but a noisegate pedal before the amp will help (between your guitar and the input of the amp).
Nice playing! That amp sounds great!
I almost picked up one of these 6505+ combos 6 months ago because of the low entry cost for that 5150 sound. I opted for the 6505 2x12 from circa 2008 in case I wanted to mix speakers as its my only cab. The 2x12 6505 ran me $600 and its phenomenal!
Don't sleep on the 5150 ICONIC combos hitting the used market. They are going for $500 USD already and are switchable between 40 and 10 watts. The lower power rating is perfect for bedroom volumes.
Great find Glenn, I'd love to hear what it sounds if you upgrade the internal speaker to something decent like a V30 or G12M-75. Also, what are your thoughts on the 6505MH 20W mini head?
Killer video Glen. Just what I was looking fir
So glad I rediscovered this channel I wonder if that impulse response is still free? Glenn needs to play more guitar too
Glen, thank you for your service to the guitar community. Your advice is the reason I have a good tone and still have food to eat.
I have this combo. I replaced the Sheffield with a UK V30 that I ordered from Mesa. I also have it running into a Peavey 212 with Greenbacks! Awesome sounding setup!!! I’m running all three speakers together. 16 ohm speaker with 16 ohm cab. Set the combo to 8 ohms.
I watched this episode and a week later I found one that needed work (tubes) and bought it for 100$.I replaced the speaker with an Eminance wizard I had in my parts pile .It sounds great .I also have a Mesa Tremoverb ,a Mesa express 5.50 , and a Fender twin .This 6505 plus combo just slays. Thanks for the tip .
Glenn, I really appreciate this video. Home musician here, looking for a good amp, I do not need tons of power. Thank you for this info 🤘🤘
Been using on of these in my office for years now they're great
your playing has improved incredibly.
WOW. Sounds A-M-A-Z-I-N-G through the Two Notes X. When I got the Cab M, it was a game changer for my recording tone. Your IR is FN good.
This was the most amazing video to find a year later. Just seen one for sale in the UK for £290.
It’s fitted with a Vintage G12 out of Marshall.
I was fortunate enough to take a chance on this used modded Soldano brand amp i saw in a Guitar Center for $800 back in 2000, to be more specific a Soldano Hotrod 50+ with a Bruce Egnater dual channel switch mod plus a few other tone tweaks (he is local to me and used to do amp repair/mods out of a local guitar shop), and also came with the matching Soldano 2x12 cab loaded with V30 speakers...still can't believe i got this amp/cab for that price...I've read the Soldano HR50/SLO100 inspired the 5150 design. The SLO has more of that distinct high mid presence grind that just cuts through a full mix like a knife without much effort...even better is that these SLO's have a tube preamp direct out which you can pipe into an interface and use IRs along with your mic'd signal. This amp sat in Guitar Center for a while because people had no idea of the name/history at the time and just thought it was a cheap Marshall or Mesa clone. Ultimate score, as those heads alone these days sell for $2,500 easily. I thought about selling it many times, but in the end realized i am owning a piece of important guitar amp history, that needs no other pedals to make it sound good. James Brown is a wizard as well, anyone interested in pedals needs to try some of his older Amptweaker pedal line if you can find them still...I have the Amptweaker Tight fuzz which can get all matter of any fuzz face/tonebender/muff tones as well as germanium/silicon boosts and act as a sort of treble booster/Rangemaster when you turn the fuzz knob to 0 and turn the Tight control knob way up.
I bought a PV 6505 plus head from guitar center fell in love with it it's an excellent amp I agree buddy
great vid... What speaker do you recommend as a replacement?
Some folks have done head conversations with this amp, I was a bit wary so I just got the regular 6505 instead. Love it.
Damnit Glen! I was in the market for one....now your video is gonna jack the price up!!
Saw this video was looking for a small cab for practice saw this video so it thought to get one and got it for dirt cheap, detached the head and built the enclosure for the head now I got a new free head plus a small 1x12 to practice on without busting the bank account, great deal! Thanks Glenn for the heads up! The amp is a kickass one and a great deal!
6505 sounds nice! I have a couple of 5150iiis (50 watt stealth and 100 watt w/ el34s). Another cheap option to look at for someone on a budget is the Mooer 005 micro preamp. I bought one after watching a video by Ninecore Neil and I was very surprised by the sound I was getting. Building out a pedalboard with it might be fun to try it live.
Damn that thing sounds amazing! I liked it's tone more than the 5150 head, in fact. It sounded super tight and thick through the Captor, too, with a full mid-range. You could use that Captor setup live, too, and go direct into the board.
When PRS & Doug Sewell started building amps together back in 2009, I bought one of the first sets of a 'tuxedo' Plexi head & 2x12 cab. That oversized 2x12 cabinet is, hands down, my favorite sounding cab that I own. I use it for nearly everything. If you can find one used, but one!
My younger brother has a 6505+ 1x12" combo, and put a well broken in Mesa Boogie Black Shadow speaker in it. That thing slayed.
