Kacey was very respectful in her accompaniment. Her voice is so powerful, and John's doesn't project like it did before the throat cancer. She just added a soft harmony on the refrain without overpowering him. I love to see these "passing of the torch" duets, like John playing with Sturgill Simpson at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
Unfortunately for me I did not discover John Prine until after he died. It is a revelation to now experience his wonderful music, his wit and his big heart. RIP John Prine
I think everybody deserves somebody like John Prine in their life. Just look at the way he looks at Kacey at 2:35 Its like a proud dad moment and its goddamn beautiful
The story of their friendship is just awesome. Basically she had a crush on him and thought his music was the bomb. She asked him after a show if he wanted to smoke a ja in the parking lot. He declined, but the rest is history as they say. That's a true friendship there.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning , come home in the evening and have nothing to say. The first time I heard that , I thought you must have met my father. RIP JOHN .
Shortly after John's passing, a Danish friend who doesn't like country music, said to me: hey, you ever heard John Prine's songs? Nope, I haven't, who is him anyway? Better find him on youtube, so I did and instantly became hooked for life to John's masterpieces and great sense of humor . Shame I didn't find him in the early years when I though the Brothers Four, The Kingston Trio, Jim Reeves, Hank Williams and and few more were all that existed to country music. It was in Spain, I was 21 and it was 1961. Had to wait for 50 years to be told about the existence of John Prine. Even people who don't like country music are aware of John Prine's greatness.
I grew up in Canada, and heard John Prine for the first time when I was around 19 years old,by far he is my favorite performer. My love. For this man’s music I have past down to my kids , it is our cooking music. ,and our comfort music. John is a amazing man and will live on, he is my ultimate favorite. God bless him he will live on through my family
What distinguishes Prine from other great songwriters is his deep empathy for ordinary people. I feel his message because I'm ordinary. Another song like this is Our Town by Iris Demint.
This is exactly why I scroll through comments ; little Nuggets like yours . Not sure if this is the video you had in mind ua-cam.com/video/b9IUj1mDENg/v-deo.html But, you're Spot On with your suggestion . Thank You.
Ty, Kacey Musgraves for introducing me to John Prine. Clicked on your song, wanna burn one with John Prine in Jan 2020 only to lose him 3 short months later☹️ My favorite radio show on Sundays called Sunday Morning Coming Down plays alot of his songs
I was 5 years old when I lived in Montgomery, Alabama a white son of a USAF officer & my mother, a house wife on Dec. 1, 1955. I'm sure you're asking why I say this 😊 In my opinion, Rosa Parks was The Angel from Montgomery. Yes, John Prine was one of my favorites to listen to often.
What makes this so tough is the recognition of how fragile life is. He flies with his wife to Europe and back at just the wrong time. If he’d been home, his family would have been likely able to keep him safe....such a shame. Makes me angry and sad at the same time
John Prine. A true American treasure. He is not dead he is just on the other side of town. R.I.P. John . You have no idea how many people you have inspired . You will never be forgotten.
Although the years have made john an old man, his voice is still young and fresh. its hard watching my childhood hero's grow old! i know its gonna happen to all of us but if hes getting old that means i am too!
I searched for the artist of this song, without a title or many words to go by and before google lol. It took me almost 10 years to find out it was an artist I had loved for years. Just somehow slipped past my ears.
This has always been my favorite song...but for some reason this version made me cry. Out of nowhere. That right there is how you know it’s good, boys. Makes you feel somethin.
I went to school in Muhlenberg County down by the Green River where Paradise lay"" in 1965 when my dad worked at "Paradise". John speaks to my soul. I love you John. You were my constant companion.
I fell in love with him and his music back in the seventies, have to say he stole my heart with lake marie. Love and miss you Mr. John Prine. Thank you
John Prine was one of a kind you don't I rarely meet people liked him on the street sure wish I could because I know it would be a treat you can make me smile I can make you laugh now that he's gone I Cry he's the best of the entertainers and that's a fact may you rest peacefully up in God's hands because God made someone special a man who can reach your heart and touch your soul we're going to miss you dearly John but your music I will never let go
Just lost my cousin to a car accident and he loved himself some prine, hope that angel from whycocomagh is up there singing every word to fish and whistle ❤️
I enjoyed listening to John Prine for years and sang Spanish Pipedream many times to my children when they were growing up. They bought me tickets to see John at the Fox (11-17-17) for my 70th birthday (9-15-2017). It was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. Kacey was outstanding. Long live John Prine through his timeless messaging, poetic genius and musical legacy. Travis picking, here I come.
John Prine is a legend. Ill leave it at that. Not many have heard of him, but those of us who have are better for it. Absolute Legend.
David Scott, uhh everyone has heard of John Prine, he’s legendary.
I've heard of him. Listened to him since the early '70's. Millions of other people have heard of him too.
Yes we are the man is a national treasure
True--everyone knows John Prine--and Kacey is well on her way to becoming the same kind of legend.
You said it best. Love John since 1971.
Yes sir.....
She sang Rainbow Connection with Willie recently. It was another similar such performance. I suggest checking it out. Sensational.
Britt Wolfe Same respect when she played with Willie
They were both ordinary Peeps that had the gaul to get up there and we are better for it...
In so much pain due to this cursed virus taking your life John...... I am forever grateful to you for all you gave to us, your fans
ALWAYS MY BROTHER
Sitting here listening to his music, crying....
@@bd264bd Me too, Gomer. Painful as hell.
@@bd264bd AND YOUR JOINED BY THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!
John was a true American treasure and Kacey is the new face of old time country music. Together they were magical!
If I wrote songs & played guitar & that angel suddenly appeared to sing with me: that would be heaven.
Unfortunately for me I did not discover John Prine until after he died. It is a revelation to now experience his wonderful music, his wit and his big heart. RIP John Prine
I did a few before he passed.
John Prine and his music and his stories are the stuff of legend. He gave so much. I will remember him with awe and fondness.
RIP John Prine. You sang what was in my heart and couldn't find the words for. Carry on wherever you are.
John Prine knew what was in peoples hearts. I wish I could have seen him live.
Thanks God for U Tube!!
I have a picture of myself my wife and John Prine who do I send it to 1987 at the Old Post Office in Hilton Head Island
@@darrellamie5940 Sorry, I have no idea.

My brother in law gave me a Prime Prine cassette when I was 14.... changed my life. Now at 46 still love it.... and try to turn people unto his music.
@Randy Bingham on my bucket list too. So hope I get to see him. Want to take my son with me.
5-3-2020 Watching this in my kitchen with tears in my eyes... To believe in this living is a hard way to go. Rest in peace, John Prine. ❤️

Have a vodka and ginger ale, with a cigarette 9 miles long. Godspeed sir.
Love that line. Thanks for posting. What a great loss the world has been dealt. Peace be with you, John Prine.
I do believe you are correct sir. Its time for a Handsome Jonnie and a sing along
Yes he will be having that cigarette for sure and those angels on roller skates 😭
So sad to lose someone who is absolutely perfect, like so many we've lost young, he had a good life, but still left this crazy world to soon
Kacey has such a powerful voice, yet she is gracious and holds back so much when John takes the lead. What a beautiful relationship they have.

Our Town is such a powerful song. You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive by Patti Loveless is another
Our Town is AMAZING. I can't listen to it without crying. So beautiful.
Our town is a classic. On a lighter note , I loved their duet "In Spite of Ourselves". RIP John thanks for all joy and happiness you gave us.

John you’ll never know how this song got me through one of the hardest moments in my life.
So glad the angels loaned you to us for a few, John.
America has lost an original. R.I.P. John Prine.
You are missed Mr. John Prine.
I was fortunate enough to see this concert at red rocks. To this day, best concert ever and I've seen a few. Much love sir John.

RIP John Prine! You will live on in your songs along with your old pal Stevie
I love how much they both enjoy the performance while they're in it. Especially when John starts smiling after Kacey starts singing. Simply fantastic.

Cancer has made John Prine an old man as much, if not more, than the years.
i didnt know he had cancer! Yea, that explains it! i saw what it did to my dad.
I really like to rollup a Tom Sawyer
