I'm 70 yrs old and I just found John Prine. I missed out on listening to him for about 50 yrs so I guess I've got alot of catching up to do or live to 140. I hope I go to heaven and he's there too
I'm 70 yrs old also and have been listening to John Prine for over 50 yrs and I can tell you Andrew you've got a lot of great JP music discovery ahead of you. Enjoy the trip.👍
With ya there buddy.....am , like you, a late discoveree.....very sadly!! ....am on wrong side o 60....and only discovering this great music now......well, hopefully I'll be able to listen to it for a few more years ❤
@@MartinCogavin Welcome to the wonderful world of, Prine, Goodman, Kristofferson, Guthrie and so many others that never got the recognition they deserved.
I just found Steve Goodman and I'm hooked. John Prine has been my favorite all my life. I can't believe Steve was so sick and he had so much energy. He preformed and you would never know he was so sick. He would have been a legend If he.had been able stick around.
Amazing what we learn in this world when we open our eyes...john prine was one of the first to be executed for crimes against humanity...sold his soul from the beginning...sad but fuking true .
I saw John in Pittsburgh in early 2012, he dedicated this song to his brother who he said wasn't doing too well, was in the hospital, they had talked before the show and his brother had asked John to play this for him. John ended the song with tears streaming down his face. THIS MAN IS REAL. Love you John.
Rest in Peace John. I feel like I've lost my best friend having had you as my hero since the age of 16. Turn 60 this month and I Thank You for being such a presence in my life.
I wonder if John Prine ever watched all these vintage videos on UA-cam that he may have missed first time around. I'd like to think he did. I saw JP three times in the 2 years before he died, and he always paid tribute to his friend 'Stevie' Goodman. 2 legends. Together again I hope.
There is a sweet, short documentary here somewhere about Steve Goodman, featuring interviews with John Prine, Arlo Guthrie, Kris Kristofferson, Steve's widow, and his manager. Kristofferson has to stop talking at one point, because he starts crying. I was blessed to see Steve perform at the Moore Theater in Seattle in the mid-70s. He played solo for three hours, with one little break. What a treat that was!
"Broken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see". The best line in any song. I saw John perform this 30 years ago and swore I would learn to fingerpick it. It's now my favorite song of his to play. I miss him so much.
John Prine has meant so much in our al familie's lives - from 1972-73 until today. We have llistened to all his songs - know the words to his songs, gone to his concerts and have loved him with grateful hearts for all our lives.
Music to comfort the soul. Let's all take a deep breath and hope for leadership and sanity in these perilous times. God bless John Prine and Steve Goodman.
I had the pleasure of seeing John and Steve together at Milwaukee's Summerfest on the Country Stage. Steve told jokes about his leukemia (dude had a dark sense of humor). John made a point (more than one, actually) about the fact that it was Steve that wrote "City of New Orleans". Damn, those two put on the best show. Have a beer for me in the afterlife, guys.
I "discovered" John Prine by simply listening to the radio-the days when DJ's played what they wanted. But thank goodness I have lived long enough to enjoy UA-cam and all the free concerts like this. Steve-you are still loved and missed. (Steve lived with terminal leukemia for 15 yrs and died at 36 yrs.) ☮

Saw them in Spokane, WA, 1980. Steve played our private party after - bought him breakfast - he was a total unashamed humanist who respected people and life. Also a darn fine 'picker & wordsmith. RIP Bro, sorry I lost your album covers.
I never worked with Steve, but I did work with his brother shortly after he died. We both cried a lot. I miss them both, but they are picking and grinning in heaven
@@hugowiberg1843 Saw Steve Goodman twice, once in a tiny coffeehouse, once in a larger hall. Both times he broke a string mid-song, switched guitars, and picked up right from the note he left.
This was recorded for Austin City Limits and I was priviledged to be in the audience for the taping. Prine and Goodman are two of the best musicians ever! :)
What can be said they haven't shown right here. Two of the greatest poets of the last century, two of the greatest performers, and I'll add, two of the best guitarists ever. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world guys, you are missed for sure, thank God we have these videos and songs to fall back on.
I can always go back to this , and feel young and old at the same time. The video is fuzzy but it Still sounds crisp. God bless those boys, now and forever.
No telling how many times I have watched this. Such a joy, every time, to watch John and Steve together. I think it is one of the sweetest music videos I have ever seen. God bless you, John Prine.
I'm watching this after just receiving news that John Prine is battling Covid-19. I am sad. I wouldn't put it past Prine to bounce back and give the world another Grammy-award winning album. But if he doesn't, I feel peace that he will join his life-long friend, "Stevie."
was fortunate enough to see/listen to both Steve G & John P individually and together, College of DuPage way back in the late 70s. Have numerous Goodman albums/songs. Few had more wit and entertained more than Goodman. He was quick with a quip and yet refreshingly modest/humble at the same time. He inspired me to learn how to play a number of his songs. Rest in Peace Steve G knowing you left this world a much better place!
Absolutely perfect song as I sadly part with all of the baggage left behind by my mother's passing and contemplate my own mortality. Who will want or understand my souvenirs?
My heart is breaking 💔 We lost a beautiful soul and Jesus gained one. Best singer and songwriter. I followed John since 1973. R.I.P. John you’ll always hold a special place in my heart ♥️🌹
I saw them play this at a concert near Washington, DC back in 1981. I never get tired of hearing those guitars. Goodman died a few years later as I recall. Prine is struggling with the coronavirus now. Here's hoping he pulls through and lives a long time.
Johnny Cash used to say that he only listen to others music when he was in songwriting mode, and then he listened only to the best: John Prine and Steve Goodman.
