New Orleans should be preserved as an historical site in the history of American music. It is part of the backbone in American music and its historical importance can not be overstated.
I've said the same thing on a few of these NPR Tiny Desk Concerts. Big shout out to the sound crew...excellent job guys! I'm sure the confined space and all the books in the room make their jobs a whole lot easier. The room acoustics are perfect for live performances.
@@arnoldlane68 Specially when you have so many loud instruments, covering whole frequency ranges from very low (tuba) to very high (trumpets). Tricky job!
You know that feeling of being consumed by debt and all of the stress life throws at you. I just turned this on and danced by myself and all of my troubles don't seem as suffocating as they did before. This music is magical guys!
Amazingly clean, nobody stepped on nobody's toes-lots of space even the rhythm guitarist had his own groove going on in between everybody. Just goes to you don't have to be loud or a show-off if you play within the music-although there are times when you have to fire up a dead audience. This wasn't that time. These guys are good, they are pros. I love it.
Went to NOLA a few years back and the music in clubs and on street corners was AMAZING!! We ended each night in the same club for some Zydeco. Believe me when I say, this music is good for the soul.
Some of the greats here, folks! Had the privilege to see Dirty Dozen live in Seattle a couple years ago, and got to hang out and chat with their incredible tuba player, Kirk Joseph, afterwards. Amazing lineage here, and some of the purest musicianship you'll ever find.
Saw and met them in Syracuse last year. Such down-to-earth and genuine great people, not to mention, first class musicians. They put on one helluva show.
the sousaphone TUBA bass player id incredible the sound is just fabulous !! and also the rest of the band sounds like a real BIG band !!! ohhhh yeaaaaaaah !!!
I inherited my grandads trombone 1 week ago and having so much fun learning. Now I am able to jam and this vid has helped me so much. Dancing around the front room learning some melodies. Love it. :)

The funk just got serious. My hat is off to whoever is doing the arranging for this group, cause they can write their ass off!
What a great musicians ! And the way Mr Joseph pulls the bass line with the Sousa is just insane. I’m a Sousa player and I can somewhat tell how much mastery you should have to play like he does.
One of the best Tiny Desk concert I have heard, I really like it ! it's like canned joy, and the joy is spreading because the box is openned, ya'know w' mean?
I saw them on a late night talk show ..Letterman, I think about 30 years ago..... and have been a fan ever since.. Wish someone would upload that performance, cause it was MAGIC !!.
I've just recently discovered these tiny desk concerts. These are absolutely amazing. This drummer is absolutely amazing. They all are. But I want to give kudos to the drummer. It's something about open-handed drummers.
I had the pleasure to listen to Efrem perform at Jackson Square, NOLA, the other night. I was doing some research on him and found this video. Totally mind blown I was talking to a legend and didn't realize it!
Do you know what it means To miss New Orleans And miss it each night and day I know I'm not wrong The feeling's getting stronger The longer I stay away These Tiny Desks of brass bands, Trombone Shorty, Allen Toussaint, etc are wonderful -- but also make me long for the day it's safe to travel back to NOLA, see these folks in person, and eat some fine cajun cooking.
Just what I needed to get my Monday started. NPR - your Tiny Desk concerts are the best and thank you for showcasing the amazing & infectious funk/bebop of Dirty Dozen Brass.
Oh, I so love these guys. Very first band I heard in New Orleans in 1989... at the Ice House, August, Christmas lights all over the bar. People dancing on the floor. My eyes wide open wondering about fire safety... completely missing the point.
New Orleans should be preserved as an historical site in the history of American music. It is part of the backbone in American music and its historical importance can not be overstated.
Amen! I believe it's the Heart and Soul of American music -- birthplace of Jazz, Blues, R&B
@SusanCain, speak that truth.
I would say for all humanity to highlight.
Nola. Is. The. Best. Place. Ever. If. You. Want/Need. Good. Music. Period.
New Orleans is the reason America has a music to call its own " Jazz"!
The real MVP of this band is the guy in the back playing the sousaphon, those basslines are AMAZING...
Kirk Joseph one of the best to ever do it!
I have always liked the bari sax part of their sound as well.
To my ears, 1/2 of the sound is the tuba/bari sound on the bottom of it all
*BRASSLINES
Correct
The way the tuba player is rockin that bass line like a jazz bass guitar is just amazing!! Brilliant band! 👍😀
The Mundane Music Archive its a sousaphone dude
Yea !!! and the drummer plays so perfectly and so EFFORTLESSLY !! Hell ..they ALL DO !! AMAZING BAND !!
the legendary Kirk Joseph on sousaphone
Sousaphone player. #notatuba
@@revspook a sousaphone is a type of tuba so you can call it by both names
that drummer plays so smoothly
like a metronome !!!
NOLA school!!
And open not cross over ..
I came to this video from Moon Hooch's video... Can't think of 2 more radically different styles but both are amazing
The Sousaphone is the most important and hardest working instrument in the brass bands. This guy rocks!
The bari sax player is the man. Guys that play like him are rare... give that man a raise
Roger Lewis
He’s doing ok. Not any better than anyone else.
Word up!
hats off to the soundman, this sounds great on my phone. that can't have been easy...

angelina chai Definitely!!!

Especially NOW!!!!
Right on!! So many bands I wouldn't ever even considered are now in my regular rotation.
the way the guitar peeks through from the bottom of the sound is so satisfying
You know that feeling of being consumed by debt and all of the stress life throws at you. I just turned this on and danced by myself and all of my troubles don't seem as suffocating as they did before. This music is magical guys!
Same❤
Holy smokes! The guy on the sousaphone plays those base lines with some ferocious speed. What a great band!
look at the feller on drums "I'm gunna wear this big sweater because I don't plan on breaking a sweat"
so chilled
Jazz drummers usually don’t. Drumming doesn’t need to have a lot of energy, this guy proves it
@@benjamenemery3260 I have a drummer friend - plays a lot of jazz - he's more relaxed than this guy even
Ha! Yes, I was thinking exactly that! He looks very much in control...and what a solo! Love it.
Quarantine with the Tiny Desk Concert series is like heaven. Thank you!
Impossible not to feel the deep groove during the drummer's solo at 6:25 and the chords that come right after man
I freaking love brass bands. One of America's greatest fine art treasures.

This one never gets old no matter how many time I watch it.
Most underrated bass factory of all time...That tuba, mic'd right, sounds really phenomenal.
face-melting drum solo from the guy who looks like he's strolling in the park
Julian Addison is the man!
Yeah he just changes time signature so easily
As a Japanese, I'm proud that Ken Niimura is participating in such a wonderful band with a guitar.
Not a Japanese...but got the same msg from Ken. N.
Ken Niimura is great, but why do you get credit?
Originally I liked this band and found this UA-cam

Thank you so much 🙏. What an amazing lunchtime nap and wake up dance to your music. Thank you 🌟.
Perfect Tuesday morning jams
How many times I have to come back to this video to satisfy my desire and hope to listen to them in person someday!
That is one smooth drummer, sounding like that, in a sweater & tie, and yet not breaking a sweat.
I wanna congratulate the engineers on a lively balanced sound. I guess those all books at back do a good job!
swooning over that handsome drummer.
I will never forget the work these guys did on Dave Matthews first solo album 'Some Devil' been a fan ever since, and the music just keeps coming.
the sousaphone TUBA bass player id incredible the sound is just fabulous !! and also the rest of the band sounds like a real BIG band !!! ohhhh yeaaaaaaah !!!
So much pure happiness. We all need more of this.
Mercy Lord! That drum solo gave me the goosebumps!
Never heard better sound coming out of a trumpet! Incredible!
You should check out Lucky Chops and Too Many Zoos. Incredible trumpeters in both of those bands!
The Trumpet player is my big cousin E.T.
Excellent music that remembers me a little from the best of the 70's bands. Wishing this kind of music comes again.
Amazing.
The Japanese dude plays really well, not to mention the stage presence with the faces he pulls
Much love for the Dirty Dozen... shout out to Kirk Joseph for walking that sousaphone badder than any bass line!
Smokin hot, the drummer has some chops woah,, and not even breaking a sweat all chill.. All the great music comin out of NOLA as always!
This video is one of my favorites Tiny Desk Concerts!
Magic tuba player!!! So groovy! It seems like any bass guitar players should take lessons from this guy!)))
If their playing doesn't put a smile on your face I don't know what will.
Jazz Fest : A New Orleans Story on the Hulu app brought me here. 🎉🎉🎉❤️🖤💚
My God That drummer is so clean and absolutely grooves. The reverse traditional grip is pretty wild as well. Hands for days!

Their bari sax is my personal favorite part of their sound.
He makes nice use of the pentatonic/blues scale
while hitting juicy chord tones
How can you not smile while watching this?
Back in 2008 Japan , I remember they blew audiences away. I'm so glad they are still solid.
