Ive been playing guitar for over 28 years and drums even longer - I have rarely gotten as excited as this over some funky rhythms and beats on YT. These guys are tight, but not plastic-wrapped tight. When I saw the thumbnail for this clip I just knew good things were in store; the guitarist pulls out a total BoG-era Hendrix-inspired lead (15:08) on that last track - efffin scorching tone! And you can't beat a Hammond, Gretsch and Ampeg combo, such a classic mid-60s setup. Gonna give it a 7th run thru now.....
I know, man. I don't listen to or watch instrumentals really, but this popped up and I knew these guys had to be dope. Turns out the drummer and guitar player are in a band called the True Loves. Tight as fuck.
"Hammond, Gretsch and Ampeg combo" What does that mean? Can u explain how he makes his strat sound the way it does (for people who are not that familiar with too much guitar tech talk)? Would be much appreciated!
@@philippkittmann4752 The organ is a Hammond B3 with a Leslie speaker, the drums are made by Gretsch (killer vintage drumkit) and the guitar amp is an Ampeg, which are very loud and proud to say the least. He is basically using an overdrive pedal to boost the Stratocaster's signal so loudly that the amp starts to really scream. This is something that naturally happens with tube amps when you've dialed it in properly and then kick the overdrive on. Its hard to get that sort of tone at normal volume levels, the amp really needs to be fairly loud for the tubes and speakers to respond like this.
his bass playing is so rhythmically complex and in pocket you forget that he's also playing lead with his right hand. lol. How does he do that? also the low end on that organ is insanely sexy
Ya know, i don't think that's possible. Could the bass be made by the organist? Is there a bass player out of frame? I just think that one guy could possibly be doing all that lead guitar + bass.
@@therealturbofanisme there is not bassist. what are you talking. organ player is playing bass. i mean that should be obvious on its own, but it's literally called a trio.
@@nathanreiber6819 sounds like a string 🤷 but you'll notice i did say that in my comment. Just didn't make sense that the guitarist was doing all of it
@@therealturbofanisme its obviously not the guitarist, theres no way he could get that tone or that low of a note on that guitar. sounds like an organ to me. its pretty obviously the organ. you can even see him playing it
I thought he is playing the bass with the left hand like Ray Manzarek of The Doors. but yeah, the left foot looks like bass movement. So can someone please explain what´s going on here? alos note his right foot is also controlling the sound of the organ music.
as I understand it, the b3 has a bass section on the keyboard that's redundant with the bass pedal keys. One can switch back and forth pretty fluidly (same volume/tone). The right foot is volume. add in the speed control for the leslie, all the different tone bar combos and it's easily one of the most expressive instruments ever created by man. And yeah, doing this is pretty standard for all true jazz/soul organists, but it still blows me away everytime I see it done as well as this. Check out Jimmy Smith for more virtuoso organ playing.
@@bluceree7312 an earlier commenter who said he was an organist mentioned that the guy was doubling (playing the same line) with the left hand and feet - which he said is a classic jazz organ style. And sometimes just using the foot to accentuate a beat while playing the bass line mainly with the left hand. I'm sure Delvin Lamarr can do it both ways. Awesome!
At about 10 mins into the video, the guitarist takes a solo on the song “Memphis.” It’s the most soulful, funky, heartfelt solo I’ve seen anyone play live. That man is a true inspiration in my book.

This live is a Masterpiece. Can't stop listening to it.
Berto!!! you nailed it with that comment man !!!!!
Ive been listening to it since it came out. The vibe doesnt get old
No Doubt ! Still sucking me into their NICE groove after many listens
The way these guys are all making eye contact with one another and are completely in tune with one another is what gets me.
that's all the talkin' necessary 😊
Hot damn these guys got that “who needs lyrics when you jam like us” type money groove spilling out for all to enjoy.
God damn right.
Its true. Sooo goooddd
Every time I watch this it still amazes me how the keyboardist is able to hold down that bass line with his friggin feet, while he's also playing the lead melody on the keys...just incredible.
thats an organist. dude is impeccable. First time every seeing them and im in the vibe lol
THIS IS WHY I PAY FOR THE INTERNET!
Again, agreed. TAKE MY MONEY! I've worked 60+, then 70+ and now 80+ hours last week to keep it together. KEXP keeps me going. And this kind of think makes me feel good that I haven't cut back - at least for now. Maybe I'm a little overworked and delirious, but good music helps keep you going sometimes. - sigh.
A hundy P
But none of that money goes to these guys. Its better to support artists by going to the Lives or buying their CD/Merch.
:) :) :)
would like, and do, but don't want to ruin the two one two. ba do be do.
Man talk about just stumbling into some great music on a Sunday afternoon. I don't even know how the hell I got here!
Same here! Hahaha!
Same thing here.
check out - The True Loves - same guitarist and drummer... with a horn section. tight band.

From Radio Moscow to LA Salami to this. I can roll with that.
I miss live music so much. How could someone outside walk past and not be mesmerized by this magic trio??
miss ?
@@marvin2678 must be a covidiot
I hope everyone’s day is vibing today as that guitar player is.
Killer drummer.
Woman outside on the phone at 4:22 calling Chuck Berry, cuz she found that new sound he was looking for.
This comment belongs in the louvre
😂😂😂😂
Ya’ll understand Lamar is playing the bassline on the organ too, right?? Too much , too funky, god bless
I keep comig back asking my self... i swear i hear a bass line. Theres gotta be a bass player. Its been tricking my ear for as long as ive seen this video
@@leemiera84 us bass players that play with an organist just kinda nod and walk off to get a beer.. darn it!
reminding me of the classic musician joke.. "how many bass players does it take to change a light bulb.. none the organist can do it with their feet."
Just like the Doors... They had no bassist, it was all Ray Manzarek on keyboard.
yes, the organ just like keys / piano allows one to play the treble & bass at the same damn time.
I keep coming back to this one, whenever I need a lift. Great performance!
Same👍🏽
Yea ,Man !
4 years later and I still enjoy this as if I’m listening to it for the first time!
Same
This is peak youtube right here. I have listened to this jam multiple times a week since I found it. Just amazing.
I could be wrong, but it looks like it says Silvertone on the headstock of the hollow body. 2:31 Crazy, right?
@@_Peremalfait It certainly does. It sounds incredible. Those Magic Fingers don't need any quarters to pump out a rhythm.
This masterpiece saved my life! More than once, actually. True story!
Check out Herbie Hancock Wah Wah Watson Netherlands. Break in case of emergency. Big love dood. Stick around for the ride.
I love how some people just pass. And then there are those who get hooked instantly and they realize what beauty is unraveling in front of them.
I wish I could download this groove into my soul.
🤣Brilliant comment...... If you do ever manage to download it successfully could you please get me a copy too!
@@1881Gordon Will do
use your ears
his bass playing is so rhythmically complex and in pocket you forget that he's also playing lead with his right hand. lol. How does he do that? also the low end on that organ is insanely sexy
Ya know, i don't think that's possible. Could the bass be made by the organist? Is there a bass player out of frame? I just think that one guy could possibly be doing all that lead guitar + bass.
Yeah. Definitely not. You can easily tell during the solo. Off-camera or recorded bass player. Or the organ.
@@therealturbofanisme there is not bassist. what are you talking. organ player is playing bass.
i mean that should be obvious on its own, but it's literally called a trio.
@@nathanreiber6819 sounds like a string 🤷 but you'll notice i did say that in my comment. Just didn't make sense that the guitarist was doing all of it
@@therealturbofanisme its obviously not the guitarist, theres no way he could get that tone or that low of a note on that guitar. sounds like an organ to me. its pretty obviously the organ. you can even see him playing it
That's literally an album right there. And so well captured. Three amazing players who care even more about the sum of the parts.
playing the organ with both hands and playing the bassline to the song with your left foot. bruh. what a legend
Is he actually doing that? Thats fucking insane!!!
That's every organ player
Awesome!
The riff at 10:02 is absolutely killer. Playing one note and messing around the the rhythm is so sick. I’m entirely sincere.
Still one of the most amazing performances I've seen.
Tak 👍👍👍
And they were "just" warming up. I replay this for HOURS!
At about 10 mins into the video, the guitarist takes a solo on the song “Memphis.” It’s the most soulful, funky, heartfelt solo I’ve seen anyone play live. That man is a true inspiration in my book.
The tone on that guitar is so on point.
Gold foil pickups! Such a different sound from what we're used to these days. Also used by Dan Auerbach of the black keys a lot. I've got an old Teisco with em, and you can really hear the difference!
It’s fucking superb.
Jon Boll hey.... what’s the best amp/guitar settings for jazz in your opinion? I have a blues junior and a tele.

Thank You People !! That's my soul vibe!
Jesus, watching these guys is as much fun as listening to them. It's all about the small things. Kudos to KEXP and or or the director for those shots and cuts. Definitely And.
He knows everything already, no need to tell Him.🤣
The drummer is amazing.
This drummer is not just laying a briliant foundation for the music - He is making music just like the other instruments.
07:07 the way he switches from bridge- to neck pickup is beautiful
so very grateful for the quality of recording these days, . . . wonderful moments like this captured for eternity
Not eternity my friend. Eventually all that we know will be destroyed.
Even though this will be here for a looooong time.

These guys look into each other's souls in the nicest possible way.
Real tight groove, and a great chemistry with these musicians!
I swear I have had this clip on repeat for the last week. I just cannot stop listening to it.
I want to single out each band member for their performances, but I don’t want to take away from any other performance. They’re all equally talented, and just jam so well together.
Jimmy’s wailing solos are out of this world.
Delvon’s keys are immaculate and mind bending
David is a machine. His timing is impeccable.
I’m thankful to have discovered this group. You guys have certainly enriched my life.
This is the kind of music I live for. The guitar solo in Memphis is absolute fucking fire!
As a long time guitarist and bass player, I have a hard time wrapping my head around how keyboard players play. But when you throw in playing that funky bass line with your left foot my head explodes...
Why did it take 5 years for UA-cam to recommend this. Thank yooooou!
Organ player is phenomenal
guitar player is good too
But I know what you mean... guitar is guitar, hammond is hammond.
Rey Holliday you do see the hot sauce t shirt?
yeah..so impressive
No two ways about it mate
MUSIC - one of the GOOD things about Earth
as a bass player i forgive them for not using the bass. this hammond plays for itself. this is pure gold. what a sound!
Djordje Simic I totally miss the bass...
I am primarily a bassist as well, but understand that organ trios are a different format.
Seriously... Delvon's left foot is an excellent bassist.
But I stiill want a nice basist with them
i can't believe he's playing all that with his foot!?!
love their take on "Move on up" that i had it played at my wedding in Portland in October '23. Crowd loved it
This video gives me so much happiness everyday
Drummer looks like he's on his lunch break from the bank next door. Killer timing, though. Damn!
