That couple dancing made me tear up. So beautiful ...the true joy of life.
@Frank Brenner-AMEN!!!🎺🎷🎶
Thanks for pointing that out, dancing clear down the street. I missed it the first time I watched.
Spontaneous and delightful
They forgot to put some money in the hat btw
made me genuinely smile big
Give some Love to the washboard guy. He has been helping them swing for many years.
Charles Murray His clothes are really clean too!
Best washboard player 👏🏻👏🏻
🧼
Washboard guy is out of this world!
His name is Robin Rapuzzi
This is one of my favorite videos ever. Not only is there sheer delight (as always) in Tuba's Skinny's happy, snappy music, but the entire street scene has such authenticity. A stray collarless dog wanders by, searching for food, and a couple passes with such genuine, unbridled joie de vivre as they dance down the street with impromptu exuberance.
Yeah sheh
New Orleans can have a free five-star concert on one side of the street corner and four guys waiting to mug you on the other side. Gotta love it.
couldn't have scripted that dance past any better! That's sheer joy! Love that couple!!!
Duke Ellington & his band brilliantly made the track back in the 1920s
you've got!.. personally , I always look for a dog ( Shakespesre in Love )
Notice her "call-outs", especially the last one! A well controlled band that is still loose enough to be excellent jazz. And the dancing couple verifies what it's about.
Dave: are you related to thelater pianist of the same name - or have you adopted the name?
Shaye has led the band since its inception around 2005, and is from a long pedigree of Jazz Greats. She's the best there is.
@@georgehollingsworth2428 Shaye is great. So are Craig and actually everyone of them.
Thanks,
Cheers !!
Great band jazz on
It's about white appropriation of black music and culture. Nothing changes.
Damnn the couple who danced at 00:32 make this whole thing more perfect
Yeah, but then the german tourists! I think they are germans. It looks typical: hands deep down in the pockets, no move, no Smile. Most important is to be on the screen.
@hwhehe hehehe Ach? Warst Du das?
Don't be so gullible.
beautiful
and into the night they go...
This is just plain COOL !.... lots of folks just do not understand how much work it takes to play this well !
A lot less than actually creating it. White people stealing black culture. 🙄
I don't understand ... but I appreciate the sounds
@@stephenspinato20+ years of experience
Once I saw the couple on the sidewalk dancing, such joy!!! Each of the band members played so well together!!!
This the first tune I ever heard performed by Tuba Skinny - and I immediately fell in love with them.
Me too, just now. So cool, so happy!

This was my first one as well. I wonder if it’s the first one that went viral
Where has this band been all my life? Instant fan as well!
The world is a better place because Tuba Skinny is in it.
Thank you for sharing your talents.
Pioneer Valley. Amen to that my friend! Something to turn to when you've had a lousy day.
Oh yeah, after discover Tuba Skinny in 2013, my faith in the human being was restored. They are simply outstanding, all of them. Blessings from Chile.
Brilliant from the uk
My kind of comment and my kind of music! Thank you for being a cool human being.
Dude with the Clarinet is LEGENDARY 😁
Director Waffle Jr, he’s a regular Sidney Bechet!
I have to say they're all pretty damn good. Even the guy on the washboard
WAIT FOR IT...
@@sarahloffler1872 Sorry to correct you but although Bechet played a great clarinet it was a very long time ago.
Bechet was born in1897.
This performer is Ewan Bleach.
@@robertpinsler1381 Yes, and you ought to hear him on sax.
The musicianship, it goes without saying, is outstanding, but what I found compelling was the communication between these wonderful performers. Brilliant!
Tells me they're reeeally good musicians and they probably practice together pretty often. Great stuff! Such a joy to hear this old style jazz done so well & being kept alive.
@@surbana9803 It is alive and well here in New Orleans. You should have seen them perform at our recent Jazz Fest. They were sensational!
Watch closely, they are talking to each other. So it doesn't go without talking as it may seem.
Shaye is the band leader. 🎺
@@sergioamayajr.5868 Yep, always showcasing white people who have appropriated black music and culture! Sensational! The South will rise again!
My 92 year old grandpa loved your music. He passed a few years back, but for some reason I remembered he showed me this music and I just wanted to say thanks for what you've done. You've 100% bridged the generations.
Did your grandpa tell you this music (jubilee stomp) was ORIGINALLY written & orchestrated by Duke Ellington and his band ... or your grandpa didn't want you to know an African American Duke Ellington first made this music??
@@memine7076 christ
@@memine7076Why the hostility? Jazz can be and is enjoyed by all. It's a gentle story of how music connected two generations. Thanks to Duke Ellington for this composition, and thanks to Tuba Skinny for keeping jazz alive and fresh.
@@memine7076Also, why are you assuming that they're white and their grandpa is white?
@@memine7076 I watched an interview with Shaye Cohn, the group's leader and also someone who is multiracial. She said they introduce each piece before it is played and talk about its origins and history. In addition to covering early collaborative jazz numbers, Tuba Skinny also plays their own compositions.
This is like a shot of good energy in this hard times, great performer's 👍
I had tears in my eyes after this performance....we need a good pick me up in these times!!
Best wishes to you Eric. ❤
I only scrolled down to see if others had mentioned the lovely couple dancing. Their joy brings warmth to my heart.
It feels so surreal to hear it so clear, usually with music like this in that time would've been recorded with old microphones and I'd except a shitload of old fashioned scratching and low quality old noises like it would sound like it as recorded in 1910 but hearing this music clearly feels so good.
What kind of music is this?
I’ve had no luck finding more of it besides tuba skinny
@@anthonyfletcher8053 It's early jazz from the 20's. This tune is a Duke Ellington composition originally played by a big band but in this video the instrumentation creates more of a Dixieland sound.
@@anthonyfletcher8053 Try the California Feetwarmers as well for more of this style of music.
@@anthonyfletcher8053 its a song made by duke ellington in 1928
I love the couple down the street dancin! This music just makes you happy.😃
A dying art...so good to see the young keeping it alive.
Unfortunately we're considered bums if we want to be a musician so the previous generations parenting method of get a haircut get a real job is one of the reasons it's dying
Well they did get rid of the blacks and just appropriated the music.
@@silvermediastudio ?
Oh joy! ... that dancing couple going up the street was true love in motion ... Mikie
Seriously, was that a movie scene?...Love it!
mikie povero. Yea...Seeing couples dancing along side the band is the norm, but seeing the couple dancing off into the distance was a lovely touch. The kind of thing you would see in a movie. Great stuff.
No because I'm focusing on the fantastic band!
mikie povero is
Dancers are nothing compared to this marvellous band. If anything, they are a distraction from the wonderful music.
How are people just walking by? This is what exploring culture and music is about. Stubling across a gem of a street performance like this is awesome.
White people playing black music and culture. Yep of course you loved to see that.
And why couldn’t those people walk behind the camera? People are so unaware. Beautiful music.
@@HealingPlaceEnergySchool White privilege
lots of people don’t walk around for fun with time to spare.
It's New Orleans. They've been around this music their whole lives.
The impromptu couple dancing at the beginning tells you what you need to know about Tuba Skinny. Their music just gets in your bones, your soul, and makes you happy.
IF you stop to listen to an outdoor performer are impressed always make sure to tip them they are something special and have earned it.
Even if I don't have time to stop and give a good listen, I try to always have a few Euros in my pocket for the street musicians.
I like to pretend I'm putting in money and instead take a few dollars out for myself because they need to get a real job 💯
@@andrewdressler6173 why are you listening here then d**-head? Without musicians WORKING there is no UA-cam videos . It is a job.
@@tessacyclone6329 but these people all have 9 to 5 jobs. I looked it up. I only listen to musicians with real jobs like they ALL SHOULD!!!
I live in the countryside, so I don’t really see a lot of street musicians. But if I see any, and I like the music, you can bat that I’ll give them money if I have any on-hand.
The clarinet solos are awesome.
Yep! The amazing Ewan Bleach, from London. He plays like he was born in NOLA.
Too squeaky
Wow! Very impressive!
If only I'd known how awesome the clarinet is when I played in middle school orchestra...
The whole thing was awesome!
The world needs more washboard solos.
I’m continuously obsessed with this group. New Orleans jazz flows in my blood! My grandparents grew up in the Irish channel in the 30s/40s :). Much love!
That time when UA-cam ' s algorithm hit a home run.
😎
nah ... it's word of mouth, then YT ....... people love Tuba Skinny .....
😆😆😆
That time when i heard an original comment is.... Gone
Right!
UA-cam always knows what I want. You should try logging in.
God DAMN the clarinet absolutely shines in this tune!! That guy is the modern day Benny Frickin' Goodman!
the joy of the couple in the background is just priceless!
the dog adds a touch of class
You know, the joy of pieces like this are just absolutely amazing. Even though I'm not from the decade, just listening to it makes me feel nostalgic of something I've never experienced ever; a life I haven't lived. And that's the magic of music: it helps us convey feelings that words cannot describe. People need to recognize and appreciate this secret art...
Profound observation. The music can take you back to that time and place.
There is a treasure Trove of Duke Ellington videos at the Cotton Club in 1929, that evocative the simple joy you're talking about
It shouldn't be a secret art - support live music!
Preach!
If you were from the decade you'd be in St. Louis Cemetery No.1. This style is from 1900-1920's.
There's so much joy for me in this clip. The cornet player's right leg like she's starting a bike and then beating swingtime like a little jazz engine, the dog wandering home after a big night out, the dancing couple. Then there's the music!
I must've watched this a hundred times, each time looking at different players, astonished at their chops and lines, and I'll watch it 100 times more. It's Heaven.
Me too!
This one in particular.
I just love these guys. All really talented musicians and having such fun
*This is what America needs in April 2020! Beautiful.*
All through 2020 . An uplifting soundtrack to these times.
🥰🥰🥰

América is fucked. Let it burn. Start anew
Warren NZ ......but aren’t going to get without face masks and social distancing!
What many don't realize is the humble tuba in the back keeping everything together and in tempo.
Everything joyful is in this clip. a loose dog, a couple dancing, a banjo just plaingn, a girl just standing and listen, a street cleener, a drunk turist, a clarinett, and all the beautiful musicians
I've never heard better music than when I went to New Orleans over 20 years ago (haven't been back since, but I want to). The music and the vibes are phenomenal.
0:32 後ろで踊っている二人が素敵すぎる
0:32 right side --> couple dancing ❤
It's nice isn't it - like a scene from a movie. I'd see it if it came around.
Yeah, love it too. Happy couple.
I just noticed. I was caught up in Shaye actually smiling.
I noticed that. Isn’t that just adorable?
There's something wrong with you if you're not dancin to this.
They made it to the Newport Jazz Festival this year! Wonderful band!
Old school tunes with a great band. The couple in the background dancing is a hoot!
That couple in the background is adorable.
I know I’m not the only one who just randomly stumbled upon this amazing piece of art 🥰
They have LOTS of videos. Check out the ones with a Girl named "Erika" singing. She's awesome with these guys!!
I just stumbled, too! Got right up and started dancin'!
Mark Bondar sweet! Thank you dude
Elizabeth Linsay I feel like I’m in a Disney movie but yes the dancing starts ASAP! 🙂😂
@@juliantej My Pleasure....Enjoy the Music!!
This is as good as it gets. A classic performance. Trad jazz at its very best
Fantastic piece of Dixieland jazz, great band👍🏽
One of my favorites. Ewan Bleach really rocks on the clarinet-this tune is a great showcase for the clarinet, and Ewan is inspired-and Shaye's cornet solo is up to her usual fantastic standard. This clip is also one of the best for the visual Barbabus where his whole lanky body gets possessed by the music-I love it! And I'm surprised that he doesn't actually take flight-not to mention a fine, rockin' performance by the musical Barnabus. Robin Rapuzzi's washboard breaks are particularly nifty in this clip-his humor is amazing. Kudos, indeed, to the whole band. And especially to Shaye, who keeps the whole thing smokin'. In addition, the ambiance with the dog and the dancers makes me weep with joy. Tuba Skinny!
I am sorry I never responded - I think I get so Mesmerized by his unbelievable Clarinet play -I was an 8th grade band teacher, and wonder - "What If...?"
I C U R A FAN, OF THE MAGNITUDE OF ME.
So nice to see a team play together
The clarinet is one of the most underrated instruments in the world in my humble opinion. And this guy masters it!
Maybe the best thing that the UA-cam's has ever recommended to me.
That was great.
I love it when the musicians enjoy playing their music as much as I enjoy listening to it!
It don't get no better!
Dude on the washboard... killing it
I love a good washboard jig
Yup, he's knocking it out of the park!
Makes me wish I could play something other than the radio
@Liberty is not free bruh
I used to play on the linoleum.
A song need a listener, so you dont need to be able to play the instrument.
It's not too late to learn
Pick something up
love the dancing couple in the background..
She can really play trumpet rocking head while KNOWING right time to fall in as icing on cake.
Excellence! And I agree, the couple dancing was the best! Pure JOY!
Brilliant. And the couple dancing down the street was perfect.
You can forget all your troubles listening to this, brilliant and uplifting..
The Jubilee Stomp is just such a genius composition… it feels so right.
Now that's music, and that's playing. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
It's so good to be back in the Roaring 20s 😁💕
It truly is magnificent
Yeaa!
Right where we should be
Yep. Stealing the black man's culture all over again. Feels good man.
Well, we are about to have another Great Depression.
in my younger days i hated jazz with a passion "BUT" now i am 70 this is great !
Shaye, it was wonderful to see you smile and to know that you were happy during the playing of this tune.
Can’t take my eyes off Shaye. So gorgeous!
I Swear a Normal Rockwell painting just came to life and played me a New Orleans song!
Infectious energy! The couple down the street sure caught it!
So awesome! The dancing couple, the dog...awesome! Made my day🙏❤️🙏
I love the couple waltzing away and the funny Tuba!
Y’all freaking awesome, absolutely love this kind of music and it reminds me of sitting in my grandma’s living room listening to record s and telling stories
Outstanding performance, all of them are top notch at what they do.
Played the trumpet many, many years ago and can very much appreciate the beautiful mellow sounds emanating from the coronet. Loved it all. Well done!
By far the very best traditional Jazz group since Chris Barber of the 1960s and 70s! There is renewed hope for a future of this joyful optimistic genre.
Such happy music! Makes me feel lovely! Thankyou Tuba Skinny.
Now I’m 18 turning 19 but this is my type of music, it feels like your living in a old cartoon world
Tuba Skinny Is a great group!
I love their sound!

Holey moley. I sit here at the age of 66 in Yorkshire England with tears of joy in my eyes. I studied Jazz in 1973 to 76 at City of Leeds College of Music. I have made my living in both performing music and education. To see these young people doing music of perfection allows me to remain calm about the progress of music in the world. This music is perfection. It is how music should be played. I'm also a fan of Moonchild. A totally different style of jazz yet played by young people to perfection. I wish all you band members a truly wonderful life. Mine is nearly over. Yours is just getting going. Love and peace to my fellow musicians. Dave in Yorkshire, England.
The best TRAD I've heard for years !!!
Such a 'cheer me up' song! Brilliant Tuba Skinny!
I just can't get enough of Tuba S! Fabulous wonderful classy jumpin' music. Gog bless you all & keep playing; I'll keep listening.
This is tight. I'll say it again: this is tight. Everyone of you guys are dedicated. Thanks for posting
Lovely solo spots. God bless Tuba Skinny!
They even dress the part! Look at their shoes and pants and shirts wow! Straight out of the 40's. Love it!
Totally had me stopping my feet and making our night. Completely a joy to watch and listen to. Cheers to everyone.
Shaye Cohn--you're a goddess! A buncha outstanding musicians--unbelievably fun.
Gotta love the couple dancing and hopping away in the background💚
Everybody gets a chance to show what they can do, and they are all definitely up to the challenge! Great band!
White people showing what they can do. Stealing black music and culture 😅
Never seen Shaye smile as much in a video as this one. Great as always guys
Trombone Man's "knee dance" captivated me.
I can see the video editor wanting to cut every 6 seconds. This is the first time I heard or saw a video of you guys. Very impressed. I remember Phil Collins wanting to stick to the face shot for the In The Air Tonight video - but he said he was not strong enough (at that time to demand) just one shot of his face. Excellent. No Regrets.
The dog is priceless!
They are amazing, joyful musicians!
The couple that danced right down the street made me smile 💞
0:47 AA THE PEOPLE DANCING IN THE BACKGROUND SO CUTE
When I listen to you all, that makes my day and night. Thank you
What a magical combo and combination they are! Completely capture the spirit and joy of New Orleans music and, of course, that great 'city crucible' of jazz and culture itself. "Play it Again, Shaye"
Just when I am sure that this bunch has reached their peak of amazement in my eyes, they come up with this wonderful arrangement! I think it's their best yet.
Curtis & Barbara Powers uh, that’s Duke Ellington’s work.
Bringing joy to the world!!! I just love this band!!! So talented!!❣❣
This so good and not just for the music. It's wonderful how they interact, enjoy what they are doing and respond to each other. Their enjoyment is infectious. JOY !!!
