Don't forget to put some 90 W grease in the auger worm gear case and fill it up with the grease.

Are the shaft seals resistant to all types of grease ? Some rubbers swell in contact with petroleum products.

Any reason why you didn't use a seal puller to pry the old seals out, instead of having to take apart the gear case? Were you wanting to replace the bushings anyway?

Do you have the part number for the crank case gasket? I don’t see it on any parts list. Im working on a sno-thro 5520 that my friend gave me when he moved. It’s the little brother to my 8524

Around the 9:50 mark you mention making sure flat spot on the bushings is in the right spot, I'm guessing this is flats to the top? Also, great video!

I just replaced the gear box assembly on a 24" Ariens and have a fit problem.
I have both Auger shaft brackets bolted in, no bushing in the back yet and the impeller shaft is off center coming out the back.
I need to move the gear box to the right to center up the shaft but I have NO space, I'm metal to metal without clearance between the gearbox, right auger and the right auger shaft bracket.
I have surplus space on the left auger.
I"m wondering if the auger shaft may not be completely symmetrical and if is was built with the short side on the right instead of the left.

Did you somehow move the brass gear on the auger shaft? IIRC, they are usually just pressed on there.

@@l337pwnage I found the gear box was dead center but the two augers differ by a half inch. I had seperated them with the entire assembly out of the bucket (and upside down) so my sorting effort was off track from the begining.

you do realize that by catching the seals on the uncovered bolt holes you most likely ruined those seals . next time use some scotch tape over the holes or a small peice of plastic bag
